I keep getting vaguely bummed out about TOTK which is so annoying bc I don't even dislike the game?? I'm genuinely having a blast with it. But also all the overarching but cohesive themes and meta storytelling about the reincarnation cycle and its consequences and the tragically beautiful world in BOTW?? Like what happened to all that?? That was what made me so mentally ill (/aff) in the first place!!

Been having a few Ventus thoughts™ lately, and one thing I landed on was;
You ever think that Ventus acts 'immature' for his age because- with the memory loss, time travel, comas and stifling by Eraqus he's endured, he hasn't been allowed to mature? Although he's the same age as Sora and Roxas, he's still gullible/too trusting/Head Empty because he's had years of his life stolen from him.

Tenmyouji biker speech is like the most important scene in vlr to me. Without that it looks like the narrative never even questions akanes explanations and plans and motives and like i guess that's easy to do when you playing video game are also viewing it from a dozens of timelines at once as means to the true end perspective. And the other characters in that bonus chapter like clover and alice are so bizarrely understanding and not mad at her for kidnapping them. But it being junpei of all people who forces you to think about how every timeline goes on and is the single linear world there ever was for everyone else in it. When akanes plan is so much "i am going to kill jumpy 6000 000 times so i can make a happy world with jumpy :)". It's so important and it singlehandedly fixes something that wouldve really really bugged me and it makes akane and sigma better characters when it's explicit the game isnt just like exclusively believing theyre simply correct

So, i finished watching Batman (2022). Long story short, it's wonderful. The cinematography and the atmosphere are simply impeccable, it's got one of the best productions i have seen in blockbuster superhero movies in the last decade. The flow of the movie is perfectly executed and choreographed; it's a truly seamless visual experience, eye candy to the bone, and the story is intriguing and lovely and pleasing to the senses too. It's a reasonably well made movie.
It also does quite remind me of my main point of disdain towards live action Batman depictions post-Batman&Robin, which is, i think fellas take Batman way too seriously.
Listen, the guy walks around with fucking pikachu ears on for fucks sake. I dont think that straight up looney tunes comic relief is the right flavour to put in the live action batmanverse blender, even though it has the potential to be incorporated very well, but. There's a certain quality of offbeat, paculiar weirdness to Batman, a quality of almost playful and offputting bizarre wit, there always has been. He's got a fucking sith pikachu mask on. It's very human, very endearing almost. it's an element of imagination and wonder which is something Bruce Wayne has, even when it's corrupted to only include doom and gloom scenarios.
and the comics successfully translate that subtle wit and uncomfortable quality of all the characters, including Batman, by incorporating acidic colors, borderline hallucination-esque imageries, warped character designs, the whole thing feels like the worst acid trip you've ever had in an alley behind a bar and that's how the tone carries. It's how the worldbuilding and the characters feel congruent and authentic. The colors also give Batman a dynamic personhood by depicting his unceremonious humanity as much as they buff him up. There's a fun and gore-ish, psychopathic sincerity to the comics.
and the movies absolutely take that element out and all you get is the most "just some guy" artless character depictions and Batman himself doesn't feel human. he is written way too seriously for a guy who has pikachu ears and wears his underwear on his pants.
And this is by no means a Batman (2022) problem; it's a persisting trend of live action superhero media progressively stripping their stories of heart and soul because executive fellas have cought the "THIS IS A BIG FUCKING DEAL!!!!! EVERYTHING IS SO SERIOUS HERE!!!!!" disease and think giving superhero narratives their color and humanity back somehow makes them less poignant and significant. There's no sense of dynamism and wit to the batman movies, and the tone and atmosphere of Batman (2022) is fucking gorgeous, it's a singular experience, but it feels so out of place with Batman. It feels like Batman's costume belongs to another movie entirely, something more playful and weird.

These are terrible. The first is naive, and I’m tired of being naive. The second is self-destructive and why should I destroy myself for them? The third…could be really fun. But I don’t think she’d buy it. The fourth is just unlikely.

i think about this a lot but man if you only met me like post-2017 you truly missed out on some of the most unhinged jon behaviour imaginable. this is a good thing but there is a part of me that only the fools who knew me in the Hell Years truly understand.

need to sit with that succession finale a little bit... a lot of this season didn’t work for me for a number of reasons but the ending itself i’m happy with

lizzie some guy i work with just told me that michigan state university is hiring a comic book archivist and i thought of you. go forge a resume and apply. you would have to live in michigan but i think its a small sacrifice
STOP THAT WOULD BE SO FUN... i think living in the states may be a dealbreaker but i could probably get away with living in windsor. manifesting that whoever gets the job quits when i graduate

Lán Xīchén commended the child for his willingness to howl like a dog, and to scream like a young maiden. To be exactly what he fought tooth and nail to prove he wasn't. But in the end, they were all just as bad as everyone said they were. The arrogant, cold, unfeeling, Twin Jades. Tears dripped down Lán Xīchén’s cheeks as he took the first step; he was unfeeling. His lungs burned as he forced himself to pace his breathing; he was cold. He had killed his beloved;  He was arrogant.

sorry im still not over it but as an (ex) lit student it's just so bonkers to me that you go to any uni and there will be tons of people who dedicate their lives to these classic texts, know the ins and outs, the various interpretations and are so passionate about it, like they just genuinely have love for the source text; and then a rando who didn't even bother to read the source text or do much research or even particularly like (?) the source publishes a book advertising it as a retelling ... like lol ?

hey, ginger advice anon here!! picked a shade that's MUCH too red for my face... I can't really do anything other than wait for it to fade and work out smth more specific with my colourist next time, right? 🥲 thank you :)
heya dear!! i'm sorry to hear that, tbh in my experience whenever you dye your hair red it will look SUPER red at first but then settle to a more natural ginger tone after 1-2 washes.... red dye sticks to the hair less than black or brown so it really washes off a lot. i recommend waiting at least 2-3 days before washing after the dye job even when you feel it's very red, but if you want you can wash it earlier than that to get rid of more of the colour. and yeah next time you can tell your colourist what you want in comparison to what you got this time! but tbh i recommed waiting and seeing for now, you might be pleasantly surprised

i read the sandman comics a few years back so i was so so excited when i heard that not only was it getting adapted but the author was an executive producer as well, unfortunately the show was not it (for me). a lot of people liked it, but honestly the acting, directing and cinematography were so bad it was distracting for me. which is such a shame since the set design and story are so incredible. i just couldn't get myself to care about any of the characters like i did in the comic. also the pacing was so slow and none of the stakes felt as high as they should have imo. also black characters sleeping without bonnets and the hair of a character in ep 5 made it clear there were absolutely no black ppl in the hair department. also one of the only story rewrites they did in ep 5 ended up making an originally progressive scene from the comic a homophobic one. so yea, it wasn't for me, but who knows maybe i'm just a hater lol
Tumblr media
i don’t have the charli anon pic saved on my ipad. also hi from my ipad! 😋
MAN. that sucks to hear! house of the dragon is the one fantasy series i’m interested in watching right now so if i do watch the sandman it won’t be until like 2023. i feel like a fantasy show is such an investment for me like i have to pay attention to be sold on it
i watched desperate housewives a lil as it was airing but i was too young for it at the time so i’m looking forward to getting into it as an adult. i don’t mind slow shows like severance as long as the character work is there. that’s why i’m looking forward to watching pachinko which is a relatively slow show (based off the book which i love and highly recommend)
as one hater to another you’re always so welcome here and i love that we get to discuss things we actually like too! it’s all about balance 😊
