How to develop Analytical Skill in students.

I started my teaching in the year 1976 to pre university physics students and became PGT physics in 1978 when +2 was introduced in Tamil Nadu.
My headmaster was a gentleman who could personally interact with fresh teachers and guide them to excell in teaching. He will observe the classes systematically and try to figure out helping solutions.
In those days in town like Tiruchirappalli there were no coaching centres for going to IITS OR BITS PILANI IISC etc.
Parents used to depend on teachers in the school through headmaster for the enhanced Learning for their children.
So our headmaster used to encourage us to find different methodology for improving reasoning and objective skills to crack well in such professional competitive examinations.
Maths and physics were the two subjects which required more attention.
My headmaster formed a team of four members myself for physics, chemistry teacher, maths teacher and himself as team leader.
We had not less than 10 rounds of discussion in fixing the problem. We could find three major extensions needed for corrective action.
1 To bridge between state board and NCERT syllabus
2 To make students improve conceptual learning rather than board examinations coaching only
3 To improve problem solving skills analytical approach.
Our headmaster allowed us to formulate null hypothesis to experiment since with 10 years of experience or so all the three of us were completing portions earlier and always produced the best board results .
Our headmaster took us all to a lectures by Swami Chinmayananda who was delivering Bagavad Gita lectures at that time. (on His name only many chinmaya mission schools are running).
He used to have a board and skillfully explain not just the verses but how it fit into day-to-day activities of human.
In the first two chapters he was elaborating on the doubts and conflicts of Arjuna during mahabharat war.
He started raising many questions with confused state of mind.
Lord Krishna encouraged him to ask more and more questions and there by effectively churning the mind answers started explicit with clarity enhancing self confidence also. I am not narrating the whole discourse.
After a week in our regular weekly meeting our headmaster asked us could we get any hooks and pathways to team.
We answered, yes, unanimously since we had placed ourselves in the position of Arjuna and were struggling to find feasible solutions to our problems.
We took the verse of Lord krishna who defined the nature of an ideal student.
" tat vidhi prathipathena, pariprachnena sevaya
Upatheshyanthi te gnanam gnaninah tatva darshinaha"
(Meaning and our actions I will)
The above verse(BG3.4) describes the basis for students as follows:

Acquire that through postration, inquiry and service. The wise who are knowers of thr Truth will instruct you in wisdom.

From the above we learnt INQUIRY that is questioning helps us to learn better. It became our null hypothesis.
Then we started forming modules in an organised manner as given under:
1. We identified and restructured paragraphs concept wise fro each lesson in all the three subjects.
2. We then identified from which standard the said concepts were introduced to students.
3. We the teachers started gathering books of different boards including the reference books followed in CBSE schools.
4. Formed extensive questions separately in notebooks WHAT WHEN WHICH WHERE HOW AND WHY TYPES independently.
5. We typed the paragraphs in separate work sheets.
After informing headmaster for about 20 working days in the month of August when schools were celebrating lots of functions, we isolated 11th standard students and administered in the following way.......
After assembling all students of six sections of same students we gave two two sheets to each students all three subjects and asked them to formulate a minimum of 50 questions for each paragraph.
They were allowed to form and write the questions in sub topics like:
1. When that was known to them
2. What conception and
What misconception available
3. What are the extensions carried over in each standard.
4. Probable problem based sentences.
5. Expression based sentences
6. Scope for extension
7. Application oriented questions
8. Graphical or diagramatic questions
9. Demonstration or model making questions
10. Uses and complimentary questions.
After one hour we asked them to read individually and asked them to collect common questions.
We used the help of fellow teachers in organizing the proceedings.
We also presented our questions and questions from various resources on the given paragraph. On seeing the work involved our beloved headmaster said such exhausting exercise could be carried out for two units per term and asked us to compile. He further said for three consecutive years this can be worked out and the entire syllabus could be covered.
We conducted surprise tests with objective questions from various competitive examinations in the completed portions and the response was marvelous.
Students started following this methodology themselves and this became a popular one in our circles.
Parents started informing headmaster about the sudden change in the students and their discussion regarding academic ways. More subscription of reference books both from school library as well as central library of BHEL was significantly reffered to by Parents.
The following year we had good number of students selected for BITS PILANI and IITs.
Our school students were admired at the colleges by their proffessors for innovative ideas.
Almost all teachers started working on this methodology also for helping average students to become above average.
Thus I am sure the question preparing skills will definitely boost the capacity of analytical ways smart learning.

Chapter 6: Integers

Chapter 7: Fractions
Fractions are studied in higher classes as well, which makes this introductory chapter very important for students. Fractions on a number line, different types of fractions, and the simplest form of a fraction are some of the topics covered in Chapter 7.
Chapter 8: Decimals
Chapter 8 teaches students how to work with decimals. In the first half of the chapter, students are introduced to concepts like hundredths, tenths, and comparing decimals, while the second half deals with the addition and subtraction of numbers with decimals. There are six unsolved exercises at the end of the chapter.
Chapter 9: Data Handling
The chapter teaches how to deal with different types of data. Concepts related to recording and organising data are covered in the chapter. Other topics include bar graphs, pictographs, and tally marks.
Chapter 10: Mensuration
The Chapter 10 covers concepts related to perimeter and area. The two methods of calculating the area – using graph paper and applying the direct formula – are explained in the chapter. There are three unsolved exercises at the end of the chapter.
Chapter 11: Algebra
The chapter Algebra starts with the concept of Matchsticks Pattern and the idea of a variable. It also includes a detailed explanation of an equation, and the solution of the equation done through the trial and error method.
Chapter 12: Ratio and Proportion
The chapter explains ratios in detail by providing many solved examples. It also covers proportion followed by the unitary method. Students must understand this chapter in a detailed way because Ratio and Proportion are topics that are helpful in our daily life.
Chapter 13: Symmetry
The chapter Symmetry will introduce you to the concept of Figures with Two Lines of Symmetry, Reflection and Symmetry, and Figures with Multiple Lines of Symmetry. The concepts are explained with the help of images so that students have a clearer understanding of the chapter.
Chapter 14: Practical Geometry
The Chapter 14 Practical Geometry covers all the fundamentals of drawing different shapes. It introduces students to geometrical tools and their uses. They will also learn about construction of angles, circles, and line segments. Bisectors of an angle and perpendicular bisector are also explained in the chapter.

Here are a few tips for students to speed up their preparation at the eleventh hour:
Set a particular time when you’re going to revise topic-wise problems.
Instead of solving the questions right away, try to read the question properly and then try to solve the question not vice-versa. It saves time.
If there is a possibility of drawing a diagram in the question, draw the diagram as it will help you answer the question properly. Try to practice the diagram questions properly.
Understand the logic behind the answer rather than memorising it at the last moment. Avoid cramming in Mathematics except for the formulas.
Practise as many previous year question papers as possible.
