We as a society (fandom) do not talk enough about wilbur's first introduction to dream because it's actually hilarious, and we do not talk about the Minecraft dream cult enough

For context, this is from, like, April of 2020 (a solid few months before the whole pizza hut date fiasco). You can watch the video here, and the time stamp for this particular realm is around 19:25

If you don't know, essentially, wilbur did a video where he stole from his subscriber's Minecraft realms, and one of said realms ended up being a """cult""" (in heavy quotations bc it wasn't actually... it's Minecraft) for dream. wilbur goes in, he's on edge, and he has no idea what's going on—he just wants to steal and move on to the next realm.

Anyway, watch the video if you want. What's really funny is that wilbur had no idea who dream was at the time, so it was just some eerie Minecraft realm to him.

A few months later, tommy & tubbo join the dsmp, and wilbur via tommy asks dream on a pizza hut date, and you know the rest. I wonder if wilbur ever connected the dots between dream and the realm.

If you think about it, the idea of wilbur interacting with a creepy cult then meeting the figure of said cult, only to have his first reaction be to ask said person out on a date, is kinda funny.

okay so i’ve seen voyager all the way through once like a few years ago and i am currently rewatching it, plus i’ve been in the fandom sort of for like a couple of months, but like, i’m not sure i follow why b’elanna would be so extremely upset abt c7? i know there were some unresolved feelings(??) in the earlier seasons, and like sure, she might find it weird or that it doesn’t make sense, but why would she be like Super Upset and Resentful at Chakotay for it? is it something i forgot from the later seasons or am i just a bit dense LMAO 😭😭

You aren't dense and I don't think you've forgotten anything, as always when it comes to hypothetical scenarios I'm just laying out my opinion and my interpretation of each character, and it's totally fine if you see things differently.

I think there's also a misunderstanding here, in that I don't actually think B'Elanna would be 'super upset and resentful' about it, I just believe that she'd be disappointed in Chakotay's choices and wouldn't want to talk to him for a while because of this. I understand why this happened as I've made jokes about it for the most part and so I exaggerated things a bit, and that's on me. I don't think B'Elanna is the type to be resentful for petty reasons at all, and if I were to write this in a more structured narrative I would take a different approach in showing the situation.

My reasoning is mainly based on the fact that B'Elanna in canon doesn't really like Seven, and has also the kind of rapport with Chakotay where B'Elanna assumes (or hopes) he is on 'her side', but it's not always the case. I keep thinking about this dialogue between them in “Extreme Risk”:

TORRES: This whole thing is so ridiculous. I don't report a few scrapes and suddenly Janeway thinks there's something wrong with me. Typical Starfleet, huh? CHAKOTAY: You have been running holodeck programmes without safety protocols.

B'Elanna is referencing their shared history in order to make him stop questioning her decisions, but he isn't buying it. In this case Chakotay was justified in ignoring the attempt (she was injuring herself), but there are so many similar cases over the course of the show in which Chakotay explicitly does not take her side even when she's not in the wrong (like about her supposed 'anger issues' in “Juggernaut”). Additionally, Chakotay was the one who ordered B'Elanna to work with Seven when B'Elanna didn't want to way back in “Day of Honor”, completely overriding B'Elanna's authority, and I can imagine B'Elanna having sort of internalized the fact that Chakotay won't be on 'her side' whenever Seven is involved, which hurts all the more given the mentor/mentee undertones they've had ever since their Maquis days. A relationship between Seven and Chakotay would be the ultimate confirmation of her gut feelings, and while I don't think of B'Elanna as a resentful person, she does see the world as an 'us vs them' kind of deal. From her perspective, I think, it would feel like Chakotay is 'betraying' their friendship by forming a relationship with a person with whom B'Elanna's had so much difficulty getting along. She would be deeply disappointed in Chakotay for not understanding, but of course it's not like she's ever said anything to him about the way she sees their friendship.

It's obviously not a very "mature" response but honestly, I think it's very... human to have mixed feelings about a friend dating someone you can't stand (and that they know you can't stand) have had such a difficult time with in the past, and you still don't necessarily want to interact with very often (ETA: see discussion in the replies). And it's just as likely B'Elanna would never even mention that it's a problem for her unless someone prods her, although I do think she'd at least land a couple of sarcastic remarks about it, which may or may not feel like unwarranted attacks to Chakotay, hence the disagreements. But again, ymmv.

But you and others have talked about his reputation in the industry. talked abt the toxicity of his fans (he's known to have the most toxic fans etc) could I ask why that could be, I know that might a difficult answer since no one could really control that, but in terms of the other actors Jensen seem more Normal ish fans same with misha tho ppl complain that it he has cult like but otherwise normal ish fans . Obviously every actors have fans that are toxic/deranged and cruel that just comes with the job. And you can't force anyone to be or not to be a fan

While it's true that all segments of fandom have their fundamentally apeshit people, it's also true that Jared's fandom has cultivated the strangest of the strangest, including people who do things like try to shove incest into LGBTQ rep, but also a lot of queerphobes find support there, but also also a lot are just angry hags that self identified through the weakest performer in a series and have since then made it their mission to attackingly preach their inflation of jared padalecki to the point no matter where you go the moment someone peeps "he's a bad actor", which is often, even in the GA, they somehow find that shit and start making howler monkeys and throwing poop.

Add in he's known for being a risk to productions [ Et Tugate ] and to set [he's been known to break equipment, cameras, things like that] AND the fact that he's a modern sexual harassment risk with his idea of "jokes". His volume on starmeters and means of measuring modern celebrities are fractions of Jensen's these days, and his fans will come crawling out of the woodwork with the banshee noises any time you acknowledge that reality and try to lose it to an arbitrary distraction thread of irrelevant horse shit they think they can argue into making Jared relevant somehow.

So he has low yield (low fans, often negative to support/building an audience), high cost (he sets his rate higher than his equal value of similar people, but feels entitled to due to his age in the industry), equipment damage (cameras, etc), film delays, potential sexual harassment risks, various arrests, I mean I could keep fucking going here. TLDR there are a million mediocre middle aged white men in media, many of which can act better than Jared and don't come stapled to a psychotic bunch of hags moving around like a fucking virus on any posts he's associated with, or even his former coworkers--earlier a few years ago they spent all this time going at specifically misha on bridgewater and jensen on the boys, attacking and insulting them under their coworkers feeds, over shows they have literally zero interest in, but they're that fucking obsessed with trying to make Jared Padalecki seem as relevant and engaged that they drag their yeehaw horse shit in anywhere that one of Jared's coworkers had the misfortune of working with him for any substantial amount of time.

i think i reblogged a post abt the difficulty of finding fandom friends earlier (which might b what inspired this), but like. i honestly got SUPER lucky that i've made wc friends. before this i had fandom friends n we shared experiences, but we weren't in the same fandoms at ALL. most of my friends r in other fandoms n talk about them w each other, i consume one (1) piece of media.

(altho i've felt like shit for a few days so i might FINALLY start watching killing eve.)

anyway, yeah. you just gotta talk to people. some safety/advice/etc. type tips that won't help you make friends but will help you make good ones:

personally i do not believe in giving out discord on a first date, so to speak. we will chat on tumblr dms until i feel like ur a real person. every step closer to ur inner circle of information, the more u risk.

try to make sure ur not getting attached to an anti. like. it sucks to find out that you are, and it's better for everyone if you do a quick search of their blog. if you guys don't know how to do that effectively lemme know and i'll give u a tutorial.

i can't give discord server joining advice bc i'm in one (1) discord server n it's a group chat basically. some of my friends have been burned in servers tho so just b careful.

usually one person can introduce u to others but it might b a slow process.

this is weirdly specific but i don't think the Fastest road to friendship is by making someone something. dgmw i love when people make me things n i love making things for my friends (even if i'm super slow about it sorry "bestow all grace upon my song" will one day be published), but i think it's just like. not the best way to establish a connection. i think this will make sense but i don't know how to explain it? i'm not saying like. u've ruined ur chances at friendship if you do that. i'm just saying i think u can Slow it Down.

reaching out is fucking hard but i was literally just like. i am so grateful to the people who have started a conversation w me? they are near and dear to my heart. if you feel weird abt starting a conversation that's valid but for like. reassurance. it's always hard but people (generally) want to talk.

[thoughts]." you don't have to be quite that direct but there's nothing like a message you don't really get the point of. maybe i'm just autistic but "i'm reaching out because you seem cool and i want to make friends" goes over MUCH better to me than almost anything else.

lastly: remember that they're still an internet stranger. it takes time to get to know people. my friends certainly know more about me than y'all know, but you can't like. drop shit on someone first conversation. be careful about how you open up. good people won't push you for more than you're comfortable with, etc.

Anyhow. Do you have any long fic recs? Not necessarily complete, at least over 30k and perhaps Techno-centric?

oh i absolutely have fic recs. i find that it is... exceeding difficult to find well-written and long fic in dsmp fandom--WAY MORE than it was in, say, tma fandom, which is where i was before this. granted, my standards are also stupid high, which might be part of the problem. but im nothing if not tenacious, so i have some fic i find up to snuff enough to recommend. to you i present these things

1. my favorite is Visage by third_crow (133k words). ill recommend this to anyone who will listen and also anyone who will not. more ranboo centric, but its phil and techno find ranboo and, despite the fact theres obvs smth off abt him (the offputting and near-possessed state they found him in, his missing memories, and the fact they can't tell what kind of mob he's meant to be, to name a few), they decide to take him in. the mystery of this fic is really fun--a cool way to examine what having a server cut off from the end would do to their culture. also a neat adaption of ranboo's lore when the entire rest of the cast minus boreal trio, dream, and a few others ill leave as a surprise Simply Arent There. i also ADORE their techno characterization, and they have fantastic worldbuilding/mystery unveiling/cliffhanger abuse. i could talk abt this fic for hours. i love it

2. i read and posted about this one earlier today! the extradition by onelituli (103k words). its more dream centric, but its techno breaks dream out of prison and the two of them flee to hypixel skyblock. its just dream and techno becoming Real Friends while dream gets his shit together and heals/grows. the banter and dialogue is really nice and i had a good time reading it

3. angel, arson, blade, and void by thatbllladie (85k words). this one is more ranboo centric, but tis abt his involement in the syndicate, so techno plays a major role. its a hero au (...antihero au? the syndicate is just as legally iffy as they are in the dsmp). i really like what they did with techno in this fic, like, the bit w his powers was super clever and im so enamored with it

4. guitar strings and keyrings are what it takes to build a home by anonymous (63k words). techno pov foster au. he's been w phil for a while, and they deicde to take in tommy and wilbur, much to techno's chagrin. while i did almost close out of this fic midway thru do their choice to make techno a foil fencer (i simply think epee techno real), i Really enjoyed this and i thought it was a lot of fun.

5. actually speaking of sbi family dynamic, change fate by being aggressively kind by sircantus (91k words) was fun. i get the impression this is a popular author so you might know this one already? but its phil learns about a prophecy abt three kids who will one day end the world and decides to adopt all three of them. just sparks joy. (i also quite liked this author's stay underneath my wing (61k words), a zombie apoc sbi au, but not as much)

6. leave me your starlight by findingkairos (50k). its been a little bit since i read this one, but i remember its emerald duo, phil pov but techno centric. the plot's essentially phil meeting a young techno as a lonely teenage warrior, going "is anyone gonna befriend that" and not waiting for an answer. i really enjoyed the writing style, and also im learning im a sucker for any fic where techno is amking a friend and everyone techno knows pulls that friend aside to say "yknow techno? he acts scary and tough but hes actually very sweet. and if you hurt him we'll destroy you." also the adaption of stuff like tournaments and hypixel and the antarctic empire and phil's hardcore world was all really neat. this fic also comes in a series of mostly unrelated other pieces called to you i gift the end of things. i havent read all of them, but i really enjoyed the ones i did. special shoutout to these three fics from that series:

a. Home, a oneshot about techno making a single player world and having peace (think retirement but it simply does not end)

b. oh dear, can you see me?, a very long fic (63k) abt kidza being used as a weapon and techno helping him heal. very heavy

c. the lilting dance of binary stars, a oneshot where every time techno or phil die, theyre reincarnated into kids. phil dies while techno is in retirement, and techno takes him in.

iiii think thats enough for now? a quick run on the calculator app tells me this is about 661k words, so, thsi should last you like. idk. a week? at least
