The eventual kazuha and sanemi dynamic
#kny crossover#genshin impact#kaedehara kazuha#shinazugawa sanemi#one day I’ll finish writing the first chapter. one day#anyways I love thinking about these two#i think platonic relationships are so fascinating#like you could definitely construe so many different friendships as romantic ships but to me these two as friends has so much potential#sanemi canonically dislikes Giyuu because he gives off a ‘better than everyone else there’ vibe that is purely unintentional#and canonically is friends with Iguro for reasons I still cannot figure out#sanemi’s so interesting because it’s not like he’s a purely chaotic character despite what his first appearance would suggest#the manga and genya’s memories clearly show that he has a lot of respect for oyakata-sama because oyakata-sama is not high and mighty and-#does in fact understand every sacrifice that goes into the battles that they fight that he must sit on the back lines for#sanemi is a very loyal person I think once someone has earned his loyalty even though he owes about showing this in very aggressive ways#I think he goes off against genya especially because genya fighting as a demon slayer goes against everything that sanemi has fought for#since they lost their happy lives sanemi has been fighting for at least one of them to still be able to live normally and he probably thinks#that Genya spat on that sentiment by becoming a demon slayer anyways#anyways I think sanemi and kazuha would have such an interesting dynamic#sanemi has the authoritative upper hand as a pillar but kazuha isn’t even a demon slayer which means sanemi’s position doesn’t do much#beyond acting as an indicator that he is one of the strongest of the corps anyways.#they’ve both lost a lot but sanemi still has someone to fight for whereas kazuha is holding onto the last embers of a corpse’s wishes#and I think them having a talk about their motivations would be very good#because I don’t think at this point that kazuha has very much reason to live beyond carrying on Tomo’s wishes#if the swords are parallels to visions I think Kazuha’s turning point will be when he receives his own nichirin sword#sorry for the long tags lmao

thank u 4 ur post on sanekanae LMAO. its so painful as an author when ppl misinterpret and read over his character, and assume he had romantic feelings… when it’s stated he saw his mother in her?? .. ppl jst have to romanticise every chick and dude within a shared vicinity.
also he’s dull at romance so!
That's what I was thinking, too — it's stated he sees his mother in her so it's obvious he only may have liked her in a 'motherly' light (like how Inosuke sees Nezuko/Shinobu). Otherwise, there's less than one handful of interactions we see with Sanemi and Kanae.
My first problem is that Sanemi and Kanae barely knew each other. Kanae died at seventeen which means she died a few weeks after meeting/knowing Sanemi, and from the wind pillar light novels, they interact twice (and both times Sanemi mentions she reminds him of his mother). So, I think even if Sanemi 'liked talking to Kanae' (per Gyomei's words) he didn't know her for very long.
My second problem is that the entire idea of Sanekana is that it entirely goes against Sanemi's writing for a number of reasons:
Sanemi is in the Corps for one reason and one reason only: to protect Genya. He has selflessly devoted himself to protecting his little brother for his entire life 'till death', so that Genya could do things like getting married and having children (something that Sanemi NEVER saw for himself at this point, mind you).
Sanemi's character is also heavily self-sacrifical as he inflicts a punishment upon himself by distancing himself from Genya.
Sanemi, who knows somewhere in his heart that he's doing wrong to Genya, would not get close to someone else (especially romantically) since he believes it would be selfish and hypocritical. He also wouldn't want to get sidetracked from his 'goal'.
I also believe Sanemi would feel guilt over being friends with Masachika since he's abandoned Genya.
Due to these reasons, I think Sanemi would never romantically like anyone in the first place, and even if he did, he's rather dull with romance.
My personal belief is that Sanemi is probably a whole ass raging virgin man too since it fits in with his character and morals, and he just couldn't let someone get that close to him (touch, love, sex would scare the shit out of him; he needs to be with someone he trusts very dearly for even a damn kiss on the cheek).
That aside, the real reason I don't like Sanekanae is because of Kanae herself.
Kanae has terrible writing. Quite literally the worst writing, and with the writing she has, she does NOT fit Sanemi at all. Her entire character writing is contradictory as she's only there for Shinobu's story — Sanekanae was an afterthought the author might've had because it doesn't even fit inside the narrative at all.
Kanae is also a huge fake to me. She comes off as one of those people that say they're 'so sweet and lovely' but are genuinely rather cold/stern. Even that stupid fucking advice she gave Kanao just made her seem like a brainless anime girl to me. Kanae is one of those characters that are made to fit a character's backstory hence her personality changes every two fucking seconds (trying to make her seem easygoing with that god-awful coin and boy advice she gave to a very abused Kanao; in her dying moments, discouraging Shinobu from continuing with the Corps; when she first meets Sanemi, she doesn't come off as 'sweet' she just comes off as easily irritable and indifferent; then when she appears in Shinobu's head during the Douma fight, she just gives some generic words).
I also don't think Kanae even liked Sanemi LMAO.
(I have more to say but I'm genuinely raging just thinking about this ship and her. The author of demon slayer does NOT know how to pair people together.)

Is it just me or is sanemi nicer in the Hashira surplus au?
Thank you for the ask anon!!
In this au, Sanemi is nicer with some people (particularly Giyuu) but is largely the same Hostile Guy with most people (especially Genya and Tanjiro). The only time he could be called soft is when he is with Kanae, who he has a great respect for and considers to be a much better person than himself. They are quite close.
I've touched upon Sanemi and Giyuu's dynamic here and made a comic about his opinion on Giyuu after their mission (precanon) here.
Essentially, it is widely known within the current hashira that both Shinobu and Giyuu are just as qualified as them. Shinobu wants to be promoted so she can be included on meetings and give her input directly (rather than through Kanae) and because she deserves it. She makes comments to the current hashira quite a lot and tries to arrange meetings with the master to discuss this but so far has had no luck. Sanemi thinks this is rude and is only quiet about this because she is Kanae's younger sister. Shinobu knows this and it pisses her off, but ignored it. They're at a stalemate.
Sanemi prefers Giyuu because he doesn't fight to be acknowledged or a pillar. He hasn't worked out that this is self esteem related as they don't spend enough time together for that. He thinks Giyuu dismissing his own talents is annoying, but as long at they're not discussing the topic, they get along. This is largely due to the fact that Giyuu is much less inclined to ignore people and has better social skills in this au. They've even sparred a couple of times which is unbelievable to Sabito who can't convince Giyuu to join his sparks with Rengoku, Mitsuri and Uzui. (This is because the more hashira there are, the more intimidating it is. He also has never gone on a mission with those three unlike Sanemi.)
Despite his improved relationship with Giyuu, Sanemi is still Like That in the hashira meeting after the spider mountain arc (I don't know the actual name for this arc whoops). I haven't decided if I want Giyuu to be in the meeting yet but either way Sanemi still provokes the siblings, fights with Tanjiro and stabs Nezuko. She proves herself as in canon. After this meeting, his opinion of Giyuu drastically shifts from "just as worthy of the pillar title" to "too soft and can't be relied upon even if he is very skilled".
He also has a minor crisis when he finds out Kanae was involved in the Nezuko situation because he looks up to her and cannot agree with this move. It goes against his principles and the corps itself. For a short while after the meeting, he refuses to talk to her and is even harsher with the other demon slayers he interacts with/rescues on missions. Ouch. Good thing he doesn't see Genya in this time, or he might do something he'd regret.
