So… I’ve been thinking about this more lately, and a YouTube comment I read earlier got me wondering…

This commenter was expressing how they think we’ll take Cayde’s body to the portal and that will somehow do something to bring him back. Something about dead energy… idk it was really confusing to be honest. But hey you never know. But I’ll be real honest, idk what to think about the veil. I know at this point I don’t trust it. If that’s even where Cayde is at… guess it remains to be seen.

But what it got me to thinking about was the Forsaken cover art.

So I joined in 2019, missed all the Mara visits and all that. And true, some things I still don’t even know what they are.

Like this for example…

Can anyone tell me what that is in the sky? I’ve always automatically assumed it had something to do with or is the entrance to the ascendant plane. But idk.

It’s visible in the cover art too. Now I’m sure many, many people have gone over this a million times and then some but-

If that’s supposed to be us carrying Cayde, clearly we’re on the Shore but where exactly? That’s not the Prison. Looks more like the High Plains area to me. But why would Bungie put us right there, I very highly doubt we walked all over the Shore with Cayde in between his death and funeral cutscenes.

Also I’d like to point out some minor details I’ve noticed. And by minor details I mean one singular detail that peaks my curiosity.

In the last stand cutscene, Cayde gets that armor pad covering his left shoulder ripped off, not completely, but looks as if it’s barely hanging on.

Yet in the cover art it’s fixed?

In fact it doesn’t even look like it’s been damaged at all. And that’s a big wtf moment for me because unless Bungie just copy pasted a pre-Forsaken Cayde and made him look dead for the cover art, or if our guardian had the time somewhere before reaching the tower to immediately know how to fix a piece of armor we’ve never messed with before, it would lead me to assume even further that the cover art is foreshadowing something. And not us getting revenge.

Because if the shoulder thing on Cayde’s armor was fixed, that would mean we’re carrying him after we’ve already been back to the Tower to have his armor repaired or again, we somehow fixed it ourselves. Because I’m also assuming it would have been repaired to the best ability along with the rest of his armor before he was buried out of respect. And making a note of him still having his cloak on. It easily could have been put back on him. And now with Amanda gone, I don’t know if Cayde’s cloak is just going to be left where it is or moved.

So to get to where I’m going with this… I’m a 15th wish theorist, everyone who knows me knows I am lol Is the cover art us taking Cayde to the ascendant realm? To go to Riven? Maybe this is after we’ve seen Cayde wherever he is in the teaser. Maybe we have Sundance with us.

Maybe I’m going too damn deep into this but- after the general sadness the cover art brought me, during the time it was too difficult for me to even look at… it just seems… odd now. How instead of taking his body to the portal, perhaps we take him to where our last wish can be granted.

Ooo for your forsaken exile au, do you have any interactions with Zavala and Wolf planned?? Does anyone ever find out that Wolf didn’t kill Sundance?

Do I Have Zavala And Wolf Interactions Planned? do I, the fool dying over him losing Hakim and canonically seeing Wolf in a similar light/being reminded of him through them, have interactions planned?

...Now, not over any one thing, yet.

There are interactions planned around the two of them (Caiatl and Zavala [still not too sure about one in particular, but it's supposed to be over the report from Arsenal Check], Crow and Zavala in Risen over the Hive Lightbearers [for different reasons than canon]) and there is one labeled "Empty Judgement" with the summary of "If everyone turns their backs on you, where else can you put the knife?" but I think that part was just placeholder. As of now, there are no planned Big Betrayals (outside of canon ones), so--

There's a point, post-unexile, where I want there to be an argument where Zavala accuses Wolf of surrendering all they loved, and believing them delusional. Details aren't too fleshed out yet, mostly because I need to develop prior lore more before I get there, but... feelings.

It is a big part of post-unexile interactions, though, that Zavala isn't the most friendly or okay with the situation. He's angry, he's tried, he's guilty - He doesn't know what to do with any of it, and he's being worn down by the weight of... everything, not just the prospect of having been wrong. Which, when you're in charge and have many people relying on you, the idea of having been wrong about something so important...

But, because of Zavala (and others') treatment, Wolf isn't exactly feeling welcome. Caiatl and Osiris for voices of reason with Crow for emotional support certainly makes things easier, but the City is far from being home to them.

For question 2: Quite a few people! But... mostly because they truly wanted to know, either because they wanted Wolf to be innocent or because something just seemed wrong. Crow and Saint are good examples of this.

Cayde woke up a week or two into Hunt (which, in TFE, starts around the time Wolf kills the first of Eramis' lieutenants), and, through the power of Denial (and a glimpse of Wolf wrestling with the Rifleman on his perch), refuses to believe Wolf was to blame - Just that they were moments too late.

Crow, via Traveler dreams (maybe. At the very least, dreams of his death) and being increasingly frustrated with everyone hiding things from him and always being so vague, becomes determined to find out what happened to his past life. There's a period of time after he pieces it together where he sees Wolf in a similar way that Canon Crow sees Uldren early on in Haunted (not the time period, just the attitude).

This phase lasts some time, up until Cayde wakes up and the two become close due to being kept at a distance by everyone else for varying reasons, and Cayde eventually relents and tells Crow what he remembers really happening.

Crow's anger at Wolf had already been accompanied by curiosity, and catching glimpses of them during Hunt puts him on edge and confuses him as to why, leading to the aforementioned conversation with Cayde.

uhm hi. you’re the only film person on tumblr im aware of and i have a question you may know an answer to. actually i need advice not an answer: How many movies a day do you think i will be able to see during a film festival. How many are you usually able to do?? i want to see four for two days in a row (2 - 4 - 4 - 2) but idk if it’s possible. i had days at home when i saw 4/day but usually one of them was something light and easy and also i was alone and at home 😐 honestly im going alone and im just scared that i won’t have anything else to do… also one of the movies im still not sure about going bc it would be my fourth is Pacifiction. that’s bc of your constant recommendations 🫡 hope you’re having a lovely day thanks bye

so its really a matter of personal preference. For me, anything more than three in a day might get exhausting and I wouldn't be able to give every movie my full attention and might be to the movies' detriment. something like pacifiction for example needs pretty constant engagement from the viewer to get the full experience (I still highly recommend it! as far as Serra goes its probably his most accessible in terms of structure, narrative wise its still pretty oblique). So my fear would be id be wasting my time and spoiling a potentially great movie if im tired from all the other ones ive seen that day and don't have enough time to really let each movie sink in. but thats just me! if i was in your shoes I'd do three in day max unless some of the movies are short - and id skip a third movie on the day pacifiction is playing so i could do it lmao. in the down time id just sit down and eat or have coffee so id be able to come down from the movies and be ready for the next if that makes sense.

sundance is the only festival i have experience with bc it was online since the pandemic, i did it in 2021 and 2022. I did a lot per day in 2021 and don't regret it because being at home gave me a little more flexibility. 2022 i didn't do as much simply bc i couldnt make the timing work for what I wanted to watch.

i know @shesnake crams as much as they can when they do their festivals so maybe they can offer their input too

Hi yeah I know what you mean! Jimmy is naturally a hand talker and he touches himself a lot in interviews, you’ll see in clips like that he keeps his hands on his chest quite often

He (and his colleagues) have spoken briefly about him being very obsessive-compulsive (whether he’s officially diagnosed with OCD, I don’t know and none of my business), but idk whether that particular gesture/posture is a neurodivergent thing. The spectrum is wide enough and people of all kinds are complex enough I find it hard to say Yeah That’s Definitely ND/NT Behavior (even speaking for myself and my stimming/habits). Wherever it comes from, it seems to be a comfort thing for him!

From your characterisation of Hob, I had gleaned that he isn't so ingrained in the kind of films that Dream may have been exposed to early on, perhaps Hob may have had an odd feelings with French New Wave, but is tolerant to Varda, and holds a huge respect to the works of Scorsese and his World Cinema Project.

When I say that the endless are classically trained, it's however you see it as!

What I do know is that at least to me (so take all of this with a grain of salt!) the best actors have done classic theater. Actors who have brought life to scripts of old and the most notable is, of course, Shakespeare. You see British actors specifically always have to go through at least one Shakespeare adaptation or play. Similarly, British actors more often than not have done at least one regency era film.

Again, my knowledge on this is hazy and I'm going off what I have observed. I have not thought about what schools they've gone to or institutions they're trained in. I was an acting major but I didn't continue past college. However, Dream probably went to the same schools Tom Sturridge went to irl. So make of that what you will.

In terms of the Hob sundance film, I didn't specifically say That was his shot to fame. It just happened to be one of the notable films he's done in his short career so far! I hope that cleared it up a bit haha

Also yes Hob is pretty much a normie in terms of the film and cinephile community. What he knows of Film is whatever Destiny taught in his lectures. And Hob didn't grow up with the privileges The Endless had, he was a common man. So he watched whatever movies were playing in the old theater in the town where he lived. And not often. He doesn't get psyched up about directors and producers. He just likes what he likes. He's very simple like that.

But what Hob is totally passionate about is literature. He loves novels, short stories, manga, comic books, plays, poems, and even fan fiction! He likes reading, probably more than Dream (and has most likely encountered the books Dream wrote under his pseudonym at one point). Even with his ire for Shakespeare, he's read all his plays. One thing you can always count about Hob is that he's a sponge. When he reads something, he retains it easily. That's why he's also really good at memorizing scripts.

went to spain in 2018 to visit my sister. first time i had been to europe. we had also done a 24 hour layover in london so got to walk around there all day. met a lot of people, drank a lot of wine, ate a lot of food, made some spanish deserts at someone's house through an Airbnb event thing, went out to some nightclubs and realized i hated nightclubs in other countries just the same as i hate them at home, in london our airbnb was super close to the airport but in a little village town so experienced a VERY local pub vibe, fell victim to british humor, had the best fucking coffee at the Alhambra -- idk if it was because we were there for a tour so early but that Café con leche was the best fucking thing i've ever had and i still think of it fondly and often.

im gonna cheat and add another trip because i just thought of it but didn't want to erase everything i had written about spain. but ALSO in 2018 i went to the Sundance Film Festival for the first time. i was there as a critic and i stayed for all two weeks and navigated it all by myself and i was super proud of myself for that. i mingled with hollywood producers and other critics, wrote some really great reviews, went to one my friend's film premiere, and got the shit scared out of me at the Hereditary premiere. oh and went to a party that maggie gyllenhaal hosted. her brother was there too. good times. probably my favorite solo trip i've ever taken.

1. This poses a really curious question actually. Do you think Trapper leaving is a blessing because he got to live unseen by the narrative or do you think that his leaving forced him into a role similar to olorin? Or did he cease to exsist when he was no longer relevant.

and of course the answer to that is: [prolonged scream]

the other answer is: 

- if a blessing, then one with teeth, because we’re still asking questions about how he feels after the story and even in the nicest of versions where he’s totally find upon coming home, the things that happened (culminating in Henry’s death) still happened. at best s1-3 of MASH is Trapper’s own ghost-story/he’s being haunted by them...

- if ceasing to exist, because... well, technically that is what characters do when they are no longer there (except, they don’t often, they persist in some way and that is more below’s answer)... then I start to go into places of asking about other characters who suddenly disappeared, like Oliver or Ginger, and considering what it means for characters in a narrative like this one (where things happen in seemingly random ways, because xyz is happening in the writers’ room) who get left behind. what does it mean when we push characters closer to self-awareness of the narrative? when they know they don’t exist after their final episode or when we close the book? are they conscious of every time we rewatch/reread/rehear the story and wind them back to life? do they know when their final scene is coming? Idk how obvious a comparison this is, or remember how good the book was, but very sophie’s world, no? (I should reread it, I haven’t read it since I was a teenager, but it definitely struck me then so...). also of course the neverending story -- book moreso than movies. and ok, literally because I just watched it, but Etta in “Butch and Sundance” saying she’ll leave before the “scene” when they die, and so she does... characters with awareness that the end is coming....

- and if living as an observer who suffers for those left behind, but with no power over the narrative, well then:

Secondary question off that, do you think he continued to see what was happening in the narrative when he got home? I wonder what it was like to see himself be mourned. It must be scary to see just how important you were to peoples survival when you were only keeping afloat yourself.

see this is what I think I’m really into, headcanon-wise, in this mythology Trapper... thing... we’re pondering... what is the importance of the witness? even a witness who cannot change anything or even alert others to being a witness to their story? 

what does Trapper become when he is invoked (what is going on in as time goes by when he noticeably isn’t mentioned, whyyy would you do this to me show!) -- what function does he serve in the latter seasons especially? what does it mean that he has no (in-universe) agency over how he is talked about and when he is brought back to some kind of life? does he see the 4077th all the time, or just when someone is thinking of him? 

and since you used the word “mourned,” + “ceased to exist” is Trapper technically just as dead as Henry? or maybe juuust a tad less, since Henry gets to actually die and Trapper exists in the strange limbo of he was just... gone.

So I heard about sharp stick when it first came out at Sundance. I never watched it but I did look it up a lot online cuz that was the height of my obsession with Jon and I was trying to find ways to watch it. Some of my biggest problems with the movie (other than cheating and infidelity) are that the main character is 26 and sexually inexperienced but she acts like a child. It just seems very infantilizing and like it’s playing into some coy Lolita virgin stereotype and that makes me uncomfortable. I’m 24, about to be 25, and I’m still a virgin. Only had one bf and that was back in high school and it didn’t last long. But like… idk it’s just very cringing to me. It also doesn’t sit right with me that the initiation of her sexual exploration is had with her much older married employer who is aware of her inexperience and is basically just taking advantage of her. TW: I was assaulted as a kid and even tho I’m much better now, I’m still wary and cautious of men, especially men who are older than me and have more life experience. This may just be me projecting my past trauma onto a mediocre fictional movie but it’s I just find it to be creepy and sleazy. I don’t mind movies and tv shows that discuss late bloomers and people who waited longer than the average to start having sex, in fact I wish there were more movies and tv shows where that was the main premise, but this just ain’t it.

Back again with another hot take on how I think Cayde could be coming back- back. Or me just fusing different thoughts together to try and make them make sense idk. I try to write these things down when I think about them because I forget stuff easily. Especially long thought out stuff. But- okay so yeah I’m still betting on the 15th wish to be the way that Cayde comes back but- I just thought of something else…

The reason I’ve always assumed the 15th wish would have something to do with Cayde is because there’s lore where characters have wished for him to be here. And Cayde and Sundance were the ones directly affected in Forsaken, which is where we got the raid and in turn the 15th wish. I think of it like how Osiris could only use the Sundial for Saint alone because it was connected, Saint was directly linked with the Infinite Forest, the Sundial was built on Mercury where it was. All within the same season. Cayde’s death, the wish… all within the same DLC. So I’m not changing my stance on the 15th wish.

However- it would be way too obvious and that is one thing Bungie is not. I don’t think. They’ll put one bit of info out but it’s never as it seems.

So- what if instead of the wish being the direct way Cayde comes back, it is instead a big core piece, but not one that works alone and without actively helping it to. “This one you shall cherish.” An end goal so to speak.

The events of Forsaken, while yes I have hated with a passion, I cannot deny was the reason we have Crow and how he’s come to have a better life. But at the same time- I don’t believe the Traveler would use the end of a life for another life without there being some kind of failsafe.

A portion of light from Sundance being imbued into Ace being that failsafe. That’s the only valid explanation I can think of on how we got Memento Mori. And I think the perk is only called that because we as the player, up until when we see Cayde again, have believed him to be very much dead. There’s nothing that’s happened before now to make us believe otherwise.

I think in the teaser, Cayde and his cracked Ace are the saved copy of our Cayde we know and love, being formed by his light that returned to the Traveler when Sundance was shot. And the reason his Ace is shown cracked is because not all of his light returned if the real Ace has it. I think Ace is another key piece here. I think another key piece are the literal pieces of Sundance we know through lore to be in the possession of Ikora’s Hidden. In the teaser we see Ikora with her Ghost but Sundance is not there with Cayde and it makes sense because Ikora is not dead. I 100% believe that. But Cayde technically not technically is. I think he’s in some type of limbo. Which- maybe could explain why Eris could hear his voice. Maybe he was trying to tell her something idk that’s just another side thought. The Ghosts are made separate from their guardians in a way because they have to search for us, but they know deep down who we are when they find us. So that leads me to believe each Ghost and Guardian are originally paired with their own unique light signature. We’ve yet to actually know how Ghosts are made or how they are connected with everything (this meaning the Darkness and the Witness) if they are.

We don’t know what the Witness means by “your pale heart holds the key” either yet do we? Idk but the theory that someone is inside the Traveler controlling it is interesting. Ghosts come from somewhere, if we find out how they are created, could we possibly use all the key pieces being the Cayde we meet, the Ace we have and Sundance to find a way to restore Cayde’s light and life through first restoring his Ghost? Letting her once again be able to bring him back?

The 15th wish is the goal, but it is not given freely and takes us to fight for what we would cherish.

And as for the Traveler not forsaking Cayde in favor of giving Crow life, what if Crow is in turn right alongside us in getting Cayde back.

Could also explain why Cayde-6 warned us about Cayde-7. Maybe he knew something was going to happen. There’s his line in D1 where he goes “It’s calling me, thank the Traveler I only have a year left.” And we’ve been presented with the knowledge that we could try bringing him back through the Clovis Bray facility because his consciousness could be there, but we know by what Cayde said to us this is not the right way and if we see him as 7 then someone isn’t playing nice because it’s not actually him. But the way we go with the key pieces we ensure it’s the true Cayde-6.

In one of the Sundance interviews Saoirse said that Jack would show her pictures and tell her all about his trip to Orkney. That trip happened at the beginning of August 2017. Simone's new rom com was just announced with the official synopsis/cast. Her animated movie 10 Lives premiered at Sundance this past winter, and she has a thriller movie coming out later this year.
