This moment will always be IT for me. This scene was probably more significant for me than the table scene, and that says a lot because that scene was extremely significant! I remember when i first saw this scene and was genuinely so taken back by the editing, the song, the expressions. And the fact that it's STILL on my mind almost a year later and i end up finding something new about it every time??
Then people want to pretend that this moment was strictly platonic and that Syd only equaled the restaurant... I knew in this moment that they were showing us Carmy realized how much he loved Syd and that she meant so much more to him. She's his peace. She was not a product of his trauma through his childhood and family. He was uncertain about Claire, but certain about Syd. I don't care. I am not budging.
I even tried to one time just so i could stop talking about sydcarmy to my friend who wants them to only be platonic. But oh well! The editors and Mr. Storer shouldn't have shown me this scene!
maybe i'm just not used to actors actually having chemistry these days, but something about carmy's conversations with sydney just feel more genuine and (to quote ayo) more intimate than the conversations they have with other people. they both just seem so open and ready to know more about each other. carmy consistently prompts her keep talking and asks questions and neither of them really seem to have reservations about sharing their vulnerabilities and worries. like they can just talk to each other with full honesty and openness and just a natural desire to know more about the other person and i really love that.
He vividly remembers when Syd said Hi. Hello. and that was close to a year ago. He remembers her headband and the smile on her face. Usually, he only vividly remembers bad things- family dinners, yelling, glass breaking, slaps, and his favorite song going backward.
But the good thing he remembers is when he first met Sydney. He remembers the expression on her face when she said yes to his business proposal. He remembers all the good things she said about him.
This is 'the first moment I saw her, I knew' quote a million times over.
Although Carmy wants to give Syd everything she wants, I think that he sometimes misses the point; he doesn’t smell what Syd is cooking. Sydney wants them to get a star, but Carmy immediately doesn’t like the idea. What he doesn’t realize is that Syd wants to get it with him. When he created the menu with someone else and then showed the drawings to Syd, he thought Syd would have found it awesome because it’s what she wanted originally, but Carmy missed the point that Syd wanted to do it with him. In s1, Syd wants more to do, and Carmy leaves her to do everything as he goes to the meeting. He missed the point that Syd wanted to do it with him. She wants them to do everything TOGETHER. Like how many hints must Syd give him before he starts getting THE POINT?
I see this pattern of Carmy missing the point continuing in s3. In s2, Syd asks for Carmy’s full focus and Carmy gladly says that she has his full focus, but I see Carmy missing the point AGAIN. Carmy will definitely give his full focus, but his focus will bring NYC Carmy back and this won’t work well with Syd.
can you draw your choice of the wurst crew in an "intimidating" pose
initially this prompt reminded me of Gunnie. but then I thought about that scene in episode two where they're trying to intimidate that guy and just...absolutely do not.
