5. Which of your d&d characters has been the most like you?
this is so hard!! i hide bits of myself in every character idk if i can choose. in general demeanor, probably Yarrow? i'm very comfortable playing her so a lot of my normal humor and sarcasm bleeds through in rp
7. How do you go about making a character or NPC?
i oscillate between starting with a backstory idea and figuring out a subclass that compliments it, and letting a cool build inspire backstory/personality. since i've started drawing again, visual design also has a good deal of influence. for example, with Yarrow it went something like: circle of stars -> star chart tattoos -> navigator on a ship -> shipwrecked sailor with amnesia, with other specifics being informed by aesthetic (purple skin) and setting. i try to leave as many details as possible undetermined until i know the setting because i think it's way more fun (for both me and the dm) when a character feels like they belong in the world. with Cato, i began with backstory, knowing i wanted a PC who had a vendetta against the party's patron. i then picked firbolg because they are seen as gentler and i thought that contrasted nicely against his deep-seated anger. i knew i wanted a warlock multiclass but didn't arrive at eldritch knight for a while (he easily could have been a paladin or barbarian).
8. What is the most memorable natural 20 you've ever experienced?
so Cato crits, like a lot. he has crit at least once in every combat we've had so far (in the 8-10 sessions i have been playing him) (fighters, y'know?). But! there was this One fight against an abomination, where Cato, two other PCs, and Scarcel (the party's lich patron, who he HATES) all went on the same initiative. Cato has shitty Dex anyway, so i was letting the others go first, just in case someone did something to buff or grant advantage. other PCs took turns, there happen to be no buffs this time. i have to decide if I want to wait for Scarcel. Fuck That. i say, "Cato doesn't want anything from Scarcel," and take my turn. curse the creature so I crit on a 19 and 20. action surge, rolling 4 times flat, get 20, 19, 19, 8. three crits, for a total of 68 damage. it just. it felt so good, for me, for Cato, to say "i don't want his help," and then prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that we don't need it.
36. What was your first d&d character you made?
Amos! Amos is a wood elf barbarian in a homebrew world by @minister-of-silly-walks ! his starting concept was gay himbo elf barbarian with a southern accent. he is in a fake marriage with his best friend to cover for the fact that she is actually in a relationship with someone outside of their clan. it's just the five of them (Amos, Faren (best friend) Keirs (Faron's partner) and their two children) living on the very edge of their clan's territory where hopefully no one will come visit. Amos is also an honorary member of a group of owl bears that live nearby after rescueing a cub from a poacher as a teen. if i ever play him at a higher level, he will be a totem barbarian and take the eagle and bear abilities bc that's p close to an owlbear. he is terrible at flirting and his eyes glow gold when he rages <3
thank you sophie <3 these were super fun!! i love talking about blorbos from my games :p
