I don’t know if it’s just that I’m tired, or if Uno: Infinite has some sort of magic power to it that makes my brain just kind of chill out, and as long as it is playing in the background I don’t feel like it’s going 12,000 miles an hour. Fucking crazy man.
I’m 17 1/2 hours in? Lindsay has just showed up, Alfredo is taping himself in (Which I heard about! But I didn’t realize at the time how fucking long he had been there), I adore Trevor as per always, the Uno indeed seems to be Infinite because I’m not even half way through and I’ve been making too many stupid edits in the process for another project
God, I’m going to finish these four videos and then the one big one will be out on YouTube. And I will need to watch it again, because I know there’s stuff I missed and I’m fascinated by this effect it’s having on me. But after a small break, probably, to catch up on all I missed in my Uno haze.

What's your headcanon for each of the main characters' favorite show/thing to watch on TV?
Okay. Okay so
Athena — we know canonically that at least as of 2.01 her favourite show is Claws and she live tweets it and believes Niecey Nash should be on Mount Rushmore.
Bobby — gets extremely invested in every season of the GBBO, complains about the technicals every time, and then Athena and/or Harry will find him in the kitchen at like. Half two in the morning. Baking whatever it was.
Maddie — is a stated “reader” rather than watcher according to 2.02 but considering she lives with Chimney now I’m sure he’s done is best to curate something he thinks she’d like and I want to say it’s like. Downton Abbey or something else equally Austenian (I don’t know if that’s the right adjective it was autocorrect’s suggestion and we all know how that goes)
Chimney — has watched basically every scripted television show that’s gotten anything like buzz in the past ever. The West Wing? Yes. The Sopranos? Yes. Breaking Bad? Yes. Westworld? Yes. Game of Thrones? Yes. Supernatural? All fifteen seasons, baby. He’s also done the funny ones, your Mike Schur shows, your Office and Parks and Rec and Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the Good Place. His favourite right now currently airing is a tie between the Mandalorian and Ted Lasso.
Hen — doesn’t really strike me as a big TV person? But I feel like she and Karen have Movie Nights with a bottle of wine and a huge bowl of popcorn and it’s every sort of movie from old classics to modern comedies (Karen does a very good “here’s looking at you kid” Bogie impression that Hen does not find charming shut up)
Related but Karen has seen Every Episode of Every Star Trek Ever and this will be relevant later
Buck — much like Maddie (obviously) didn’t grow up with TV as a thing, like they had one in the house but it was in the living room in a cabinet and the only thing it got was the game and the only time they watched was Thanksgiving and the Super Bowl. In his adulthood, Buck is a huge fan of documentaries and docuseries. He’s seen every iteration of Planet Earth and Cosmos and the one docuseries the Radiolab guy did and watches all the space documentaries on all the streaming services and technically this all started before he started spending a bunch of time with an intelligent and curious kiddo but it got way more extensive when he wanted to impress Chris with random knowledge all the time. Also Jeopardy. He watched back episodes of Jeopardy on Netflix all the time and he cried when Alex Trebeck died yes I’m projecting onto a fictional character again
Eddie — my darling Eddie who has a Snake Plissken cosplay on lock? For no reason? Eddie is a closet spec-fic geek. And like yes he’s seen the big culturally significant stuff (Star Trek (he and Karen definitely bonded over that — they drive Hen and Buck a little nuts with discussions of Star Trek lore), GoT, Battlestar Galactica, the Mandalorian (he and Chim talk about it at work and it gets them both right in the dad places), Stranger Things) but I also mean like. Speculative fiction schlock and trash (I do not mean this in a derogatory way as Ive watched all these too). I’m talking like. Heroes. Legend of the Seeker. Timeless. The Witcher. iZombie. Eureka. Warehouse 13. Killjoys. Like Buck shows up at his house and finds him two seasons deep into a Magicians binge because Chris was on a sleepover. Eddie will never ever admit to any of this in public ever.

I started watching The Big Flower Fight on Netflix, which was billed to me as basically the flower version of GBBO.
It’s fucking not.
I specifically like GBBO because it’s gentle. When competitors are in trouble, everyone rushes to help. Everyone is supportive and kind and drama free and you leave feeling good about people.
In The Big Flower Fight, the Irish guys openly admitted to taking more materials than they needed/materials they didn’t even need in order to prevent other teams from using them. Like, they’re openly admitting to trying to sabotage their competitors. GBBO bakers would never do that!
The Somerset team were seriously behind and it didn’t look like they were going to finish their dried flowers mobile installation, and so other teams who’d already finished rushed to help them. The Irish guys started grumbling about it, and the guest judge went over and told everyone to stop helping because this was a competition and it wasn’t fair to help.
She then refused to judge the elements that the Somerset team got help with. Again, that would never happen on GBBO!!!!
I don’t know why this is literally making my blood boil so much but this show does not have the same gentle, supportive spirit of GBBO. If I wanted a bloodthirsty, aggressive competition I’d fucking watch an American reality TV show. British shows are softer. That’s their whole fucking appeal.
I am weirdly incensed that this show was marketed as a GBBO-like show when it’s so fucking not. If I knew anyone who worked on this show I’d be irritating them with all my complaints.
!!!!!
OH, and they keep having finals in a barn with *dramatic* lighting, except the dramatic lighting is shitty because you can’t see all the colours of the finished piece.
And in the first two episodes they didn’t even have enough time to see everyone’s finished piece. They just didn’t show them to you. I wanted to know what the Eastbourne’s snail judgment was, but they didn’t even give a full shot of the snail, let alone a critique! Like, pace your fucking show better! Edit it better! Make sure the audience  gets to actually see the finished pieces that you made them invested in!
!!!!!

Things I am watching lately. I feel like I am having a hard time connecting to some of the new tv I have been trying to watch lately - but I also feel that way with the books I have been trying to read or Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung. Like it doesn't fully hold my attention. I still find Rookie Historian to be a cute, enjoyable show. I am just not as emotionally invested as before. The last few weeks have been kinda hectic though. Not too much free time to watch tv shows or really get immersed into the stories I have tried to consume. And being sick for two days hasn't helped, since I don't always feel like I have the attention span to take in new shows when I am sick. I just watch endless amount of Friends since I don't have to think too much. It is junk food for the brain and I adore it.
The Good Place: It is very unlike myself to truly binge watch a show. I much prefer watching stuff week by week and even with a simple sit com like The Good Place it can take me months to finish it. But I pretty much binge watched the entire first and a half season in a day (stayed up late and went sleepy to work the next day) or so. I got super hooked on it. I am now almost fished with season three. I am enjoying myself.
The Great British Bake Off, s10: Just the best show to just drink tea and chill over. The worst thing about the show is that it sort of makes me hungry and I keep snacking over it. But GBBO is just the coziest baking show there is. I adore watching it. I look forward to it every year (since I started watching it a few years back). I like so many of the contestants (like always) but this year Michael and Helena are probably my favorites.
Sanditon: It lacks something story wise but I am not sure what, but it is stunning to look at and I do find it enjoyable Jane Austen type story (and it is based on her unfinished novel) but it lacks a certain wow factor for me that often Jane Austen adaptations have. That Austen flare if you will. I am not totally hooked, I don't watch it as each episodes comes out. But I do find it kinda enjoyable and pretty to look at. And gorgeous old houses, pretty clothes and scenery is one of the reasons why I like British (or any) period dramas. I am a simple girl. I like watching pretty period clothes and old things.
Why Women Kill: My main problem with this show is that I don't find the different timelines or storylines of this house to be equally interesting or fun. But I am enjoying the show a lot. I find the story set in our time to be very boring - I kinda don't care for it or the characters there.  That is also the storyline where the man in the story get's sort of his storyline along with the women, which sort of contrasts with the men in the other stories. Does that make sense. The other two storylines are so much more fun to watch for me, and I especially feel for Beth Ann and her blossoming friendship with the mistress of  her husband. What makes the sort of 1980s storyline tick is probably just Lucy Liu as Simone. That women is just so stunning and great in everything I see her in! She is a dream in this one.
Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency: Don’t feel like making a first impression post, so I am sticking this one in there. This show has a moments of kinda sincerely and more intriguing moments, but it is also kinda over the top silly at times (which I don't always like and often goes into over-acting or over-reacting to something) and there isn't that much of a balance between those. There were parts of back stories and hint of political tension and so forth that I liked. But the sort of over-acting and the more silly stuff sort of took me out of the story again. I don’t mind a bit of comedy (although super slapstick stuff isn't my cup of tea) to defuse the tension in a story, but there needs to be a bit of a balance or it sort of needs to fit together better. The first episode was just sort of OK. It is cute and pretty to look at, but I wonder about how much substance it has. I wanted a bit more of a hook. But I shall give it a few more episodes to truly see how I feel about it. But with all of the other kdramas coming up, it might not have enough to hold my attention for too long.
The Crown: setting goals like finishing the first two seasons of The Crown before Olivia Colman steps into the role of Elizabeth actually motivates me to start shows that have been on my to-watch-list for ages. That also happens with book series that are being turned into films/tv but that is another matter. The Crown is a very well executed and stunning to watch period drama, as I expected - which is one of the main requires I have for period dramas according to this list. I have yet to be hooked my it, but first episodes can't always do that. I was strange seeing Matt Smith again. I am not sure I have seen him in anything other than Doctor Who. But this show seems to be the sort of thing that I would enjoy.
Shows I tried to watch:
Strangers from Hell: I want to watch horror show. It is the season for creepy, dark shows. But yet I opted out of Strangers from Hell for some reason after about 30 minutes. It was somehow not holding my attention that well. Maybe it was just because I was getting sick or something, but I just wasn't super into it.
The Terror - Infamy: I had a hard time connecting the the first season of The Terror. I also had a hard time connecting and emerging myself into the book as well. I found myself having a similar problem with the first episode of this season. But I am thinking about giving it another go.
I have not been keeping up with the part 3 of Arthdal Chronicals. The show was kinda lost to me towards the end of part 2. It just could not hold my attention, the episodes felt so long (and the are long) and the show struggled so in the beginning where the worldbuilding and stuff dragged on for too long and by the time the character arcs started to really come to light I just wasn’t emotionally invested anymore.
But still, Arthdal is one of those shows that I kinda wish I was watching, or could enjoy, because I like the idea of it, so it is sort of always in the back of my mind that I should pick it up again. But at the same time, I can’t be bothered to turn on Netflix and watch an episode. I would much rather watch The Good Place or The Crown on there.

hey rebecca :) i think i asked once after your 2018 goodreads post, but i need to ask again: how do you manage to read this much?? i'm so in awe. are you a student or do you work full time? i'm a student and i never manage to read even half as many books a month as you. please tell me your secrets! :D sincerely, a fellow booklover
hey nonnie, sorry it took so long for me to answer this!
I think my main secret is that I’m blessed/cursed to have a full-time job that requires little enough brain power that I can listen to audiobooks all day, which is probably the only reason my monthly numbers are so high. So I listen to audiobooks for 8 hrs at work, read an ebook during break and at home, and listen to either audiobooks or podcasts at home, depending on my mood. I’m trying to work print books back in there somewhere, but that’s still in progress.
But! Some actual, useful tips for you:
1. Ebooks and audiobooks are your BFFs
As hard as it can be to admit, it’s not always convenient to carry print books around (whether because your backpack is already packed or your cute new purse is too small aaaaaaagh). You’ve probably already got a smart phone on you, so – instant, convenient books that are always with you and don’t take up extra space! Most ebook/audiobook retailers will have a free app you can use, but I recommend checking out what digital services your local library offers. Personally, I use Overdrive for both and Hoopla mostly for audiobooks. I’ve also got the iBooks and Kindle apps and buy ebooks when theyre on sale for $2. Also, there’s this really great program called SYNC that offers 2 free audiobooks (mostly YA and classics) each week over the summer!
2. Read more than one book at a time
OR, audiobooks are really really really good and you should listen to them, part 2.* When you’re really busy – either as a student or working full time – you’ve got to cram your personal reading in when you can. Books and ebooks are great when you find a moment here or there to sit down and read a bit, but those moments can be hard to find. Audiobooks are great because they require less work on your part but still give you the same story. You can listen to them on your commute, while cooking, as you fold your laundry, while you’re in the art studio working on a project, in the shower …etc. You’ve got to cram your reading in when you can, and pick the best format to do that.
3. Prioritize your free time
If you’re anything like me when I was in college, you probably don’t have a lot of free time. Hell, I still don’t have a lot of free time! So you’ve got to chose what you do with it. Some people recommend setting a specific amount of time aside to read each day, which is great! It’s just not really for me, and it may not be for you either. All I can really recommend is look at what you do with your free time and take a tip from Marie Kondo – which activities bring you the most joy?
Personally, I’m a big introvert and homebody and am perfectly happy hanging out at home most of the time, so I probably don’t have as much stuff to sort through as some people do. But something I realized in college was that I just didn’t have time for TV anymore. I couldn’t even keep up with just two shows a week, so I stopped. I have the time now that I could start watching again, but mostly I don’t because I generally find TV/the TV method of storytelling more frustrating than it’s worth (I’m totally down with the occasional GBBO binge on Netflix though). Instead, I spend more of my time on other hobbies like cross stitch and misc craft stuff that let me listen to audiobooks at the same time. Surprise! This tip is actually just part 3 of why are audiobooks are great lol.*
*I did NOT intend for my response to basically turn into an argument on why you should listen to audiobooks, but I’ll also admit they aren’t always the perfect solution. Some books have visual elements that can’t translate into audio, they cost more, and they’re not as easily available as print/ebooks.
Some tips specifically for students• Any books you read for class/research are fair game. Read most of it? Add it to your goodreads challenge. I was an English major though, so this may work better for some people than others. • Set aside time for yourself/to read. I know I said I didn’t do this, but jk! I forgot. Give yourself a break from school work and assigned reading. Most days I ate lunch by myself and would read my own books while eating – just don’t keep eating to give yourself an excuse to keep reading (I do NOT recommend the results D: ). I also had track meets most weekends and would spend my downtime reading!• Don’t set yourself any specific goals, you’re already under enough stress! I always took wayyyyyy to many books with me to college and always read exactly none of them. This tip probably won’t help you read more books, but I’m almost 3 years out of college and still dealing with the ways it screwed me up. Please put yourself first and your reading challenge last, the books will wait for you.

I do have a bit of a system, that probably makes sense only to me, but we have MCM (or Tom Hiddleston Appreciation Day), Matthew Gray Gubler Wednesdays (because that’s when Criminal Minds airs), Fashion Fridays, Doctor Who Saturdays (again, that’s when it airs), and Pretty People Sundays to start (or end?) your week off right, plus randomness in between.
other blogs: none. I’m trying to get my life sorted out over here!
followers: I’ve managed to exceed 200, which is amazing to me. hi, all! 👋🏻
following: this has prompted me to go through and unfollow several blogs that hadn’t been active in over a year, so we’re down to a nice even 100.

what I’m wearing: at any given moment, probably slipper socks, leggings, graphic tee, and sweatshirt
food: as in favourite? noodles. any kind, any preparation, doesn’t matter. when in doubt, always noodles.
last book I read: I can’t remember which one I finished more recently, but this month so far I’ve polished off Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology and Pekoe Most Poison, the latest in a mystery series my mom and I like written by Laura Childs
favourite fandoms: I’ve been a card carrying member of MANY fandoms over the years, so I’m hard pressed to pick and choose, but I will say that the characters I most identify with are Sherlock Holmes and Abed Nadir (from the INCREDIBLE, but vastly under-appreciated sitcom Community which you can watch on Hulu you’re welcome.)
I never know who to tag in these sorts of things, but if it strikes your fancy, no one’s stopping you from participating!

What I’m watching these days
Anne With An E
First and foremost I want to say this show has been ROBBED. Bamboozled! The fact it wasn’t renewed for a fourth season? Disgusting. Netflix is a cesspool of corruption and contempt for the arts. At this point I would probably die for Marilla and Matthew. Fortunately (I think?) I somehow skipped over episodes when I was binging earlier so in a way it’s like bonus content. Bonus content that explains a lot of what’s happening. I missed a few episodes in a row so I didn’t see Anne and Gilbert interact with each other before he left Avonlea til now. LOL. After I finished season two the other day I decided it would be wise to catch up completely before I carry on to the end of the series. I’m already crying at these episodes but more tears will ensue when I am done!
This show’s impact on my taste is incredible. I don’t feel like getting ribbons to tie in my hair but I just might start braiding it again. Also Anne’s wardrobe is ideal for cottage core cuteness and the fact she only has three outfits. #sustainable #slowfashion
Great British Bake Off
Perhaps one of my lifetime favorites? I’m dreading the Japanese Week episode of course (next season I think) and while acknowledging the faults I really REALLY like binging this show. This means a lot coming from a person who hasn’t been hooked on television since Spongebob.
Derry Girls
Sarah and I have been watching this and Bake Off together and I must say we are having the greatest time. After we saw the Derry Girls holiday GBBO special I decided to start watching and Sarah joined soon after. I have a hard time bringing myself to care about European history and culture the more I learn about white supremacy and propaganda and junk. However I’m genuinely curious about what was going on in Derry in the 90s because I’m watching this show surprised it was never even mentioned at any point in school. Not even in college poli sci classes. This type of event is constantly brought up!
Anyway the show is hilarious even though some of the humor is early 2000s in a bad way.
