Modern AU Rambling

as I slowly start figuring everyone out for the AU, I'll add them to this/update their info! idk I just think it's a fun little AU <3

The gist: my SWTOR OCs in a modern/coffee shop AU-type setting. No war (though a few of them are discharged/retired vets), just something casual and domestic. not set in any particular city, but will be set in America so I don't have to research things and just keep this as a chill AU I can dabble in whenever in the mood

Xaerez: Alexander Zimman. Fine with Xander, doesn't like to be called Alex. Former sniper in the military, he has an unrecorded number of enemy officer kills. He was discharged due to injuries sustained on the field - injuries resulted in severe scarring to right side of face, loss of three fingers, hearing damage, and nerve damage in one leg that has him using a cane a lot of the time. Caused by the building he was perched in collapsing after it was bombed.

He comes from a rich and snobby military family; he moved out of country and cut contact with them. Without their support, he struggles for a while to keep a stable residence and job. Eventually finds a coffee shop that accepts him and he mostly works in the back. It's here that he meets the others.

Terrin: Tera Cadera. Married to Torian Cadera, with two young kids - Axel and Anya. She's lived in the area most of her life and frequents a number of the places that the others work. She's the one who connects them all, knocking some sense into a few of them and getting others to join in with her dumbassery, depending on what's needed.

She's a bouncer at the bar near the coffee shop. And yes, she's both teased and jokes about her rhyming name. Likes to go to the coffee shop in her off-time, and it's normally her place where they all get together for backyard barbecues and parties. She's terrible at cooking, however, so either Torian does it, or they do a potluck-style thing and everyone brings a little something.

Tera's the first one to befriend Xander. She just kind of... drags him along behind her while he scowls like an angry cat, and eventually introduces him to Theron.

Synnda: Sylas Vespa. Always had an interest in art, and by chance had the opportunity of an apprenticeship with a tattooist. On his mentor's passing, he found the shop passed to him in the will, and continues the practice. Keeps fresh flowers displayed in his shop.

He's tattooed head to toe with mostly flowers and somewhat religious imagery (angels and whatnot). Gentle giant, but has scars across his hand, face, and chest from armed thieves attempting to rob his shop to show that he's no pushover. He defended it and himself, sending them both to the hospital; his injuries were minor in comparison to theirs.

He lost an arm and leg in a crash as a teenager. Specializes in tattoos depicting nature, with a particularly strong point in flowers, but can do most anything.

Qizulth: Kai Verona. Spent most of his life moving place-to-place; didn't have many connections growing up because of it, so did a lot of reading. Picked up an interest in history at an early age, and for years wanted to be a history teacher.

Instead, he ended up an archeologist, and is extremely fond of the job. He makes sure the people working with him on-site don't damage anything, that everything gets properly recorded, and gets excited with new discoveries. Especially loves uncovering ancient tombs. Has a really odd vendetta against the city's museum that no one can explain.

Most of his tattoos are from Sylas' shop. Has really pretty creeping vines across his top surgery scars that Sylas was more than happy to do for him. The two are close friends, and when Kai is in town the two are together often when Sylas doesn't have clients.

Varrich: Vince Toft. Former Navy SEAL; was discharged due to severe injury from a bombing on the job that cost the lives of his squad. Injuries include: lost right arm (didn't want prosthetic), left eye (uses glass eye), scarring to face, chest and back, and spinal damage that's resulted in chronic pain once he healed from the injury itself.

Now, works in a greenhouse. Mostly tends to the plants, but can sometimes be found working the till if he's the only one around. Social recluse, but his sister drags him places when they both have time off so he at least has some interaction with other people who aren't customers and coworkers.

Lina: Lina Toft. Trauma nurse. She gardens as a hobby, growing her own fruits and veggies, and was the one who helped Vince find his current job since that's a place she frequents when she needs new plants or fertilizers.

Likes to work out when not gardening or with her brother. Has yet to lose an arm wrestling competition at the local bar.

Jen: Jensen Sept. Prefers Jen, don't even think about calling him Jensen. Delivery man, he ends up all over the state for his work but is always happy to get back home to his husband and kids. Everyone calls the man he's married to "Kitty," Jen and Kitty included - most don't know what his actual name is because the nickname has been used so much for so long. Has five kids, three of which are adopted, and loves them all dearly.

Can often be seen in the coffee shop or park with Kitty and the kids, or the bar with just Kitty. Very cheerful person; it's hard not to loosen up at least a little around him.

Leo: Calliope Viteri. Prefers Leo most of the time. Pretty cheerful and gentle, also great with kids despite not wanting her own. The Cadera kids, Axel and Anya, consider Leo and her girlfriend the "cool aunts."

She's a baker at a small family-owned place just down the street, and for parties she often brings cupcakes and such.

Azan: Azaria Tanzer. Role undecided, though may be a security guard someplace?

Atten & Araa: Axel & Anya Cadera. Tera and Torian's kids, with Atten being just under a year older than Anya. They're closeness in age means they do pretty much everything together and they're best friends. Both pretty young, so still get into a lot of trouble. Axel tends to be the brains of their little operations, while Araa is the one who actually climbs the cupboards or breaks the child locks so they can get into things.

Jessi, Jeva, Liakige, Riza, and Luci: Jessie, Joel, Liam, Rose, and Lucy Sept. Jen and Kitty's children, with Jessie, Joel, and Liam being adopted. They're a big family, but they're close - especially Joel and Rose, who do everything together. Jessie is a fair bit older than the rest of her siblings and has started college, but she visits home from the dorms across the city most weekends and holidays.

I wish BL had addressed Adrian's VA behavior more directly, but I feel like the VA series tends to keep positive views of their romantic leads so they don't dive into the abuse of power potential with Dimitri, or the abuse of power potential and emotional abuse with Adrian. For my own peace of mind I want to think that Adrian did realize he was abusive and apologize to Rose during BL, it was just offscreen because it happened during the first three novels and Sydney wasn't there to witness it.

Yes!!!! I like to believe that after Adrian did a lot of self-reflection and healing, and committed to trying harder to do better, he pulled Rose aside one day and apologized for everything he did and said, and recognized how wrong it was of him. I imagine he gave her room to process that and reaffirmed that she may not forgive him for that, and that's okay because it's her decision, he just wanted to finally own up to what he had done. I would hope Rose has had time to deal and start working through all of her trauma, and that she takes time to process but eventually her and Adrian become the Chaotic Duo that Rodrian should've been (read: platonic and utter chaos and dumbassery, not romantic).

I am maybe a bit of a hypocrite though because as strongly as I believe in needing to acknowledge Adrian's manipulative and abusive behavior, I really refuse to acknowledge the Dabbling plot. I think it was so poorly introduced and was completely brushed aside just after it was brought up. That entire storyline is so poorly handled, it felt disrespectful to the story in Bloodlines and to what Sydney and Carly had been through. In the version of BL in my head, the Dabbling story is not at all included, it just wasn't handled well at all and shouldn't have been there

Featuring the one friend who knew a French horn player named Karl. That friend and this is based on little to no context of the game :)

Everything I wrote was quoting my friend so enjoy our collective, chaotic dumbassery

BF1 Cast

Karl: French horn. Principle French horn. Refer to previous post for context

Paris: Woodwind energy but actually plays the marimba

Lugina: Drummer energy but plays the clarinet Friend: "He plays the clarinet because his mum made him," Me: "His parents are dead" Friend: "Oh no..."

Tilith: "I guess she's playing the flute"

Seria: Viola but at what cost?. The orchestra do the violas dirty. Just like the writers for Seria's character

Bertz: *cue my friend wheezing* Vibing with the double bass. Cannot understand double bass players Me: He is pretty manipulative with his words to a point where no one really understands his motives Friend: Yep. Definitely double bass

Bf1 Summoner: Violin. But Violin 2. He has too much power but doesn't know what to do with it.

Noel: French horn player. Definitely

Grahdens: That one teacher that dabbles in every brass instrument. Also he looks like my French horn teacher

Owen: He looks he's seen some shit. Definitely looks like he's seen some shit. Timpani

BF2 Cast

Sasha: Arrogant flute player Me: She's actually more insecure and wants her dad's approval and recognition Friend: Oh so a sad flute player Me: *wheezing*

Roy: Dabbles in the flute but also definitely an unassuming violin 1 player

Wallace: Trumpet Me: What makes you say that? Friend: He just looks like my friend who is also a trumpet player Me: *Dying*

Hanzo: Cello 3. Super underappreciated. Good but no one appreciates him

Yurika: Principal cello player

Joshua: Piano. Forever alone. Me: Unless it’s a piano concerto or a solo, he be pulling Lang Lang

Rin: Trumpet. Better than Wallace. Principal trumpet? Maybe?

Argus: Trombone

Lori: Hmmm. Not sure.... Leaning towards violin. She gives violin energy but really plays the flute. She looks like she has the repressed anger of a flute player

Grant: This bitch also plays the cello. He tried trombone and it wasn’t for him

Ana: Flute

Bf2 Summoner: Violin 1 but closer to back desk. Very good but also hmmmm. Significantly more proficient on the violin than bf1 summoner

He might be closing his eyes, and he might seem like he isn’t paying attention. But he still catches the light whisper. “I wouldn’t mind that mandarin sake trifle thing you made before….was actually pretty good. And I only let Luffy take the blame for it disappearing…”

The eternal need to make sure that food made people happy flourished at the forefront of Sanji’s mind. He smiled knowingly at the swordsman’s praise of the dish. Desserts were meant to be delicious and fulfilling. They were truly worthy of praise. To hear that the other man had actually liked the sweet treat was a victory in Sanji’s mind because that meant the man would most likely eat similar desserts. Therefore making Sanji’s plans easier when he was deciding meal plans.

“Really?” He asked softly, turning back to the swordsman. He looked at him expectantly. The cook couldn’t seem to wipe the smile off his face. The first thing he’d said slipped his mind as talk of dessert took full focus. “Oh, I’m so glad! You see, that was the time I’ve actually made the dessert. I’ve had the recipe for several mont-!”

He cut himself off, freezing up. The hell was he doing? This was no time for a pleasant conversation and certainly not with this man of all people. Sanji clacked his mouth shut. His mind desperately went over Zoro’s words for something to be angry about despite wanting to just compliment the dish with Zoro. Maybe discuss other things the man liked to eat. But that’s not how they were supposed to function around each other. He lashed out, as per the status quo. “You shithead! You’re supposed to leave desserts for the whole crew. You know that, you lumbering brute!”

Alright I know this is like a day and a half late but I’ve been semi-busy doing stuff and that’s a vague as hell excuse but it’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it!

1. Nickname: Backspin in digital space, otherwise my name on its own is my nickname in meatspace.

2. Zodiac sign: I think I’m technically a Capricorn?

3. Height: 5’7 (about average)

4. Hogwarts house: No idea. Given their propensity for dumbassery from what little I remember of the books, probably a Gryffindor.

6: Favorite artist(s): Ooooof there could be a lot here. Uuuuuh let’s see...Rush, Pendulum, Jade Cicada, Skrillex, Au5, Smashing Pumpkins, Daft Punk, Porter Robinson, FLOW, GRiZ, Hainbach, Linkin Park, Jeff Williams, Vulfpeck, Foo Fighters, Andrew Huang...I could go in for a while, but I’m pretty sure y’all don’t want four-paragraph/long lists.

8. Favorite time(s) of day: nighttime. Things are nice and quiet and it’s really pretty when the moon is out.

13. Amount of sleep: Either 5-6 or 10-12. Drought or flood.

15. Wearing: BOSS “Analog Distortion” DS-1 shirt (yeah I know I’m enough of a need that I wear shirts with guitar pedals on them, I’m lame like that), black Goodfellow jeans (which are INSANELY comfortable, and I’m not usually a jeans person, FTR), ace ring and Triaxial pendant.

16. Dream job: full-time creative person. Music production probably specifically, but author or podcaster would also be really neat. Technically working on all three at the moment.

17. Instrument: I “play” varying synthesizers (my synths of choice are the Korg Monologue and the Novation Circuit Mono Station, but the Teenage Engineering PO-20 is also quite fun to mess with). I am in the process of attempting to learn to play mandolin and electric bass.

I also dabble with playing keyboard every so often, but so far my skill on that is mostly “hey look guys I can use this to figure out chords! :D” and “look, guys, I can play Vulfpeck’s Hero Town and the intro to Dire Dire Docks! :D”

I can also “play” my Seagull Totally-Not-A-Dulcimer/Guitar-Hybrid, but that’s doesn’t take talent because you literally can’t play a wrong note on that thing.

18. Language: English. I am monolingual because I didn’t get any decent linguistic education during my younger days. (I do still wanna learn Gaelic at some point, and possibly Japanese so I can actually properly sing along to the varying FLOW songs I like)

19. Favorite song(s): My stated favorite changes from day to day (my current statement would probably be Cherub Rock by The Smashing Pumpkins), but the one song I always get drawn into whenever it shows up, ever, is Waiting For The End by Linkin Park. Something about that song speaks to my soul.

20. Random fact: I apprenticed under the recording and mixing engineer that did Aerosmith’s Pandora’s Box album for like...a week.

It was a very informative experience.

21. Aesthetic: Uuuuuuuh dark colors with bright highlights. Lots of handmade stuff, otherwise.

Like...I dunno. I guess you could say my aesthetic is, like, edgy hopepunk? Lots of me trying to be optimistic, but being deep and using dark colors and stuff based around that.

I dunno, I’m really bad at describing my aesthetic with words. It’s...just whatever it happens to be.
