Baby Hotline (Fanfic)
New chapter from my main series 🩷
Geppetto had just finished teaching Pinocchio about different subjects, right now, his son was in his room, while he was sitting in the living room. Geppetto had forgotten to read the newspaper so he was doing that now, the main headline again was about another dead body being found, whoever this killer was they had a kill count of double digits and it didn’t seem like they would stop any time soon.
Then he read about that earthquake that happened yesterday, it was strange but not the first time Krat had been hit by one, and usually they aren’t a big issue like the one from yesterday. Geppetto is glad that was the reason his son took his time to get back home the other day.
After finishing reading the newspaper he set it aside and was going to go to his workshop but he stopped to look at the portrait of Carlo. It… feels strange seeing it now, he has always loved it, he treasures it, and was devastated when it was stolen. Carlo didn’t like staying still for the painting and he didn’t stop making that angry expression, but Geppetto didn’t care, he was just happy to have the painting of his son, something he could treasure forever.
But now, it doesn’t feel the same, not after Dorian Gray tried to murder Pinocchio. It’s still the same portrait, the one that he loves so much, and yet…
“Ugh, why am I overthinking this so much?!” Geppetto said to himself; everything had been fine, he had been fine, even after they returned from London. Why is now different? Maybe it’s not just him, maybe it’s the tense atmosphere.
The entire city has been tense, first because of that serial killer, but also because lately, it has just been bad news after bad news. The newspapers only seem to want to mention every single bad thing that happens in Krat and sure, it’s not like this place was perfect before, far from it but it’s almost as if the media wants to show the worst of the worst.
For Geppetto, there is also the petty work drama he has to deal with, and dumb gossip because he is a public figure. Again this has been happening more lately for some reason, yes people disliked him back then, but he ignored those sorts of comments or gracefully shut them down, Antonia gave him a few tips on how to deal with those situations and it helped tremendously. Now he is having a harder time dealing with them, sometimes he thinks maybe it's the age but Antonia is slightly older and has no issues, then again you don't mess with Antonia everyone knows that.
He is sure that’s also getting to Venigni because he hasn’t been to work in a few days.
Speaking of work, there is an annual work event that he has to attend tomorrow.
He has never liked it and he isn’t the only one who feels this way, there is a reason everyone at work calls it “gossip day” because every person from every department wants to go and just air out every small rumor they heard or just talk badly about those who they don’t like. It’s not like everyone does it, but a handful of people do and they are always the loudest so they dominate the event, Conrad for example loves this event, and hasn’t shut up all week about how excited he is about it.
It’s a special event because family members of the workers are welcomed, he did bring Carlo alongside Romeo on a few occasions and he may or may not have told them to ruin the party on purpose, last time they came was when Carlo was 15 years old, funnily enough, Conrad was there and he went too far, insulting his late wife in his usual passive-aggressive tone, one he could just claim that his words got “misunderstood”. He was furious and so was Carlo but his son took a deep breath and left the room with Romeo. Before Geppetto could even try to look for them, the sound of the fire alarm resonated in the building, the sprinklers activating and everyone becoming soaking wet.
Conrad did mention how expensive the suit he was wearing was and how it needed to be cleaned with water at a certain temperature. Geppetto wonders how Carlo was such a quick thinker.
Needless to say, after that day his son was banned from the event, but he gave him and Romeo a little reward for that little stunt.
…Okay maybe Antonia is a little right about him not being the best influence but that situation was justified.
Geppetto didn’t want Pinocchio to go because as already stated, he dislikes the event but as soon as Pinocchio heard about he was begging him to go because he wanted to spend time with him and he simply couldn’t say no after that. Pinocchio looked so happy that they were spending time together, more than usual, maybe that earthquake has him on edge? He tends to act clingy when he is upset, it's not an issue for Geppetto, he only worries about his son's feelings.
He promised himself not to make the same mistakes. Leaving Pinocchio all alone at home doesn't seem right, specially since Antonia and Eugéne are busy that day, no one else he can go to since Venigni is also attending.
He looked again at the painting, it really is a beautiful portrait, maybe he truly is just overthinking everything, despite who this painting came from, it's special.
“Sometimes…” Geppetto was speaking out loud, “I wish you would have met your brother”
Meanwhile, in his room, Pinocchio was scrolling the pages of the notebook that he had found underneath Hotel Krat. He recognized some of the symbols that were drawn as the ones that were in the sword, there were many drawings about the human body arrows pointing at certain things, and most of them were of the brain and heart. Pinocchio doesn’t know anything about medicine so he has no idea what these notes are talking about. Something about neurons and the nervous system, heartbeats, and arteries/veins.
Most interesting Pinocchio found notes about magic, actual magic, he wondered if he should try and test if they worked, the writings about divination were interesting.
“Look Gemini is this kind of about you” Pinocchio read the passage out loud, “The chirping of a cricket in pitch darkness is an omen of lighting the way”
“I am even more special than those crickets pal, and I will never leave your side” Gemini was sitting on Pinocchio's shoulder, reading alongside him.
There were notes about Ergo but these were in a different language he couldn’t recognize, he could only tell that they were about Ergo because the word was the same. He found a page dedicated to the gold coin fruit as well, but it was things that he already knew. The notebook was thick, pages had been added with different paper and notes pasted next to other notes.
Pinocchio set the notebook book aside for now and decided to make small talk with Gemini.
“You won’t say anything right?” Pinocchio was talking about how he lied to his father.
“I won’t” Gemini gave out a sigh, “Although I think you should eventually tell him”
“But that is only going to make him more worried; I know I shouldn’t get involved in this anymore but I just want to help others” Pinocchio doesn’t like it when others are hurt and this situation is awful, “What if someone like Simon is out there? I can’t let what happened last time happen again”
“Pinocchio you weren’t even there when Simon first started his plans” Gemini understands too that the boy wants to help but he can’t go on adventures like this all the time, “You deserve to live a normal life without having to constantly save others”
“But-“
“No buts Pinocchio, think about it, if you get involved your loved ones could get hurt, you don’t know what kind of person is leading this and if they are anything like Simon…”
That idea is terrifying, but Pinocchio is still torn about what he should do. In the end, he decides to listen to Gemini but if he does end up in trouble he will help.
Although with his luck most likely he will end up in danger sooner rather than later.
——
Pinocchio was at the event with his father, and he realized that maybe he should listen to him more often when he says things relating to his job can be boring. His father is talking with his coworkers about things he doesn’t understand, and Pinocchio has lost count of the times he has overheard people calling him and his father names behind their backs.
At least he has had some pleasant conversations, some of his father’s coworkers are nice and his uncle Venigni is here, although he was acting a little strange, well he is strange but not his usual kind of strange, but maybe he is just stressed like his father. His uncle did say that he wanted to speak in private after this was done.
Suddenly his father pulls him even closer to him as a man approaches them, he looks a little familiar to him.
“Geppetto good to see that you actually came and didn’t decide to skip another work duty,” Conrad said in a snarky voice, “Hopefully this son of yours doesn’t cause any trouble as Carlo did in the past”
Pinocchio didn’t like this man, he was being so mean for no reason but he knew that he should keep his composure, his mother taught him well how to stay calm in these situations.
“Conrad, you have never properly met my son, maybe before continuing to talk you should introduce yourself to him properly” Geppetto is also trying to stay calm.
Conrad wanted to roll his eyes but people were watching he couldn’t make his dislike for Geppetto that obvious.
Conrad extended his hand “It’s nice to meet you, I’m the supervisor of the quality control department of this union, but I’m sure your father has already told you about me”
“Um no” Pinocchio didn’t realize it but his blunt innocent honesty made him mad, “But it’s nice to meet you, my name is Pinocchio”
They shook hands, he could tell that Conrad had a firm grasp and he didn’t understand why, Conrad knew that he was very sturdy. But unbeknownst to Pinocchio it was because the man was trying to figure out exactly what material he was made of, thankfully for Pinocchio, Conrad isn’t smart enough to figure it out.
“Geppetto good to see you, and you brought your son how nice,” Said a voice from behind, “Oh sorry, I guess I never properly introduced myself to him, I am Harvey the subdirector of the union”
If Geppetto were to step down, Harvey would be the one to get the role, that's because of all the hard years of work. Conrad was not happy when he wasn't chosen to be the subdirector but it was left to vote, not just by all the members of the board but by other workers and Harvey won by a landslide.
Conrad spoke up again “The plans for the re-opening of the Grand Exhibition are going well” Technically, it was never opened, but that was how they had chosen to call it, to not get confused.
The Grand Exhibition was canceled due to the frenzy but now it’s being planned again, to show all the technological advancements Krat has achieved, even know Krat is still known as the “city of the future”. There are still doubts in the minds of the people but time has passed and this could make the city prosper like never before.
Pinocchio remembers how he was saving everyone back then, how he first got rid of the puppets, and how he… was attacked by those alchemists helping Simon, he didn’t think about it back then, just like he didn’t think about how he murdered those stalkers, he had to defend himself but now he feels guilty, he feels like he did something wrong. Everything felt so wrong at the Grand Exhibition, how those puppets mercilessly attacked him; his fight against Victor; the confrontation against Simon.
“Geppetto’s creations are truly marvelous, me and your father used to be collages you know”
Simon, the man who spread the petrification disease, the disease that killed his brother.
Pinocchio had a firm grasp on his weapon, he didn’t trust Simon, and the man could tell that he felt on edge.
Simon rolled his eyes, “Oh come on I did you a favor”
Pinocchio still remembers the words Simon spoke before leaving the place.
Simon had a smug grin on his face “If his dumb brat hadn’t died, you wouldn’t be here today”
“Son, are you okay?”
Pinocchio had snapped from his trance, but that bad experience was still on his mind, so he leaned in closer to his father, hiding behind him, even if Simon was gone it made him feel uneasy.
“I’m fine” Pinocchio lied but unlike his other lies, this wasn’t convincing.
Geppetto knows that this more than his son being shy, he is going to talk to him once this is event is over to see what’s going on.
The conversation kept going about the plans for the re-opening, almost everyone was too entranced in the conversation. Everyone but Conrad who had something else in his mind, still thinking about how Geppetto built Pinocchio.
The materials had always been what he was more curious about, the appearance was impressive, it must be some sort of synthetic skin, and those eyes, they look so real. What kind of voice box is that? The puppet does not have the usual filter, when he first saw him he expected the puppet to talk like Carlo, it doesn't sound like Carlo so it has to be something unique.
What type of springs, what type of gears, how his inner mechanisms work, how his movements run so smoothly. Conrad has worked with Geppetto on certain projects that can improve movement quality, yet when asked what method he used while building his puppet so that they can apply it he refused to answer.
What is powering him? Conrad isn’t stupid, everyone and their mother can deduce Geppetto used Carlo’s Ergo but there had to be something else about it. Ergo can only power so much, the things this puppet can do are beyond impressive.
But at this moment, what he is wondering about is the behavior of the puppet, it has the aspects of what anyone would like in a puppet, polite, well-spoken, and always respectful. But why is the puppet so… he doesn’t know how to describe it, it’s not just shyness, it’s almost as if every little detail can upset him, every time someone mentions anything related to when the frenzy it gets too nervous, the puppet was the one who supposedly saved everyone, shouldn’t the thing like bragging about his accomplishments?
Not to mention the crying, this puppet has that reputation, Conrad heard the crying when Geppetto was fixing the issue with the disruption crystal and he has heard of that time the puppet started crying loudly at one of the events held by Lady Antonia. Why would Geppetto want to deal with that? Crying is annoying and it doesn’t solve anything.
Despite all that, Conrad can’t deny how impressive the puppet is, it’s just, marvelous, but Geppetto keeps the secret all to himself.
“Geppetto are you planning on showing anything special for the Grand Exhibition?” Conrad asked.
Certain workers get to showcase things they build or plan themselves, Venigni for example would present his work with the trams and a few people from other departments present their team projects. Legion Arms are also being prioritized, they are revolutionary in the field of prosthetics after all.
“Not really” Geppetto is too busy supervising all the projects to do so, “Why do you ask?”
“That’s a shame” Conrad was preparing his words, if he sounded too blunt others wouldn’t be happy about it, “I know that as an engineer how important it is to protect one’s secrets, but I believe I speak for all when I say that how you build your son is wonderful”
Geppetto took a few seconds to process what he said and this time he wasn’t able to keep his usual composure.
“Are you asking me to show him off as if he was an object?!”
The atmosphere became tense, and because of the yelling many had turned to hear the conversation.
“Oh no, I didn’t mean it in that way”
Geppetto was furious of course he meant it that way and no amount of sugarcoating was going to hide it.
“Then explain to me, what you actually meant”
“Surely you would want the world to know of your genius insight, your puppet son is a good boy, perhaps you would want the world to see that, to see what a puppet is capable of being”
Pinocchio had stopped feeling on edge but now he was furious, at the way this man was upsetting his father and at the way he was talking about him, he was tired of others treating him as an object.
“In my opinion, we should focus our efforts on the new modes of transportation,” Harvey said, trying to de-escalate the situation, “I believe that is what could help other places around the world the most”
It worked and others started minding their business, Geppetto was waiting for the conversation to stop and find a way to excuse himself and his son. But Pinocchio was so mad his heart started pounding, loudly and it got to the point where it could be heard by others, his springs were reacting with force, resonating around the room. There was an awkward pause, but Geppetto took this opportunity to leave with his son.
“You heard that? It was an actual heartbeat, does he have an actual human heart inside of him?”
“But I could hear the faint sound of metal, it has to be one Geppetto made”
“How do you build a heart?”
“Those springs must be extremely resistant, any other puppet would have broken under such pressure”
Father and son were in one of the hallways, Venigni had also excused himself and joined them.
Pinocchio hugged his father tightly, he was having a really bad day, and unfortunately what he didn’t know was that it was about to get worse.
The sound of people talking loudly from the main room could be heard, soon they saw someone approaching them.
“Listen but unfortunately no one is allowed to leave until further notice”
“What’s going on?” Venigni had a bad feeling about this, a horrible feeling.
“A body was found on the back of the building”
Another murder was displayed as “art”, no one was allowed to leave for a few hours, while the police questioned everyone. As they were finally allowed to leave, there was a symbol drawn with blood on the floor, he recognized it, the symbol that was in all those Trinity doors.
Venigni could tell Pinocchio knew the symbol. “We need to talk, right now”
——
“It’s him, he is back,” Venigni said with dread in his voice, they had all gathered at his home.
There is no doubt about it, but how is this possible?
“According to my research,” Pulcinella began to speak up, “All the murders are the same as before, and just as before, a few reports of people who say the culprit ran away from arranging his scene, claim to have heard heavy footsteps, mechanical footsteps”
Just as before, the police dismiss those statements as mere imagination, the shock of seeing a dead body making them believe that they heard the footsteps of a puppet.
“But why would anyone bring him back? Whoever brought him back must have known what Arlecchino was capable of, why would anyone want a murderer running on the streets?” Geppetto couldn’t understand why anyone would do such a thing.
“I believe someone is trying to distract us from something” Venigni knows that all of this news, the coverage is too focused on this, all too take away the public’s attention from something or someone.
“It has to be the alchemists they must be up to something” Gemini chirped, there was not much doubt in his mind after what they faced inside the cathedral.
“But what could they be planning?” Geppetto is at a loss, but he never truly understood their motives in the first place, “They have been silent so far, not even an ounce of activity”
Pinocchio is feeling overwhelmed again, and the last thing he needs is a reminder that he lied to his father about what happened in the cathedral.
Suddenly the phone starts ringing, that’s too much of a coincidence, Venigni is hesitant to pick it up, it’s too much, he was about to do it when Pinocchio picked up the phone first.
“What do you want?” Pinocchio doesn’t want to play his stupid games anymore.
“What not going to let me have my speech?” The King of Riddles was heard from the other line, “Well since you are so furious is a good thing I’m out of your reach”
Everyone else got a little closer to the phone so that they could hear the conversation properly.
“I would have never guessed you were so rude, no reason to give me an attitude”
“Can you stop with the stupid rhymes and just give us the damn riddle?” Pinocchio is getting even madder, he has never spoken to anyone this way before, not the previous times he dealt with Arlecchino or even with Simon, even if they didn't deserve his politeness, Pinocchio has changed a lot since then, not afraid to show his true emotions and now the anger is consuming him.
“Fine, you are no fun, but first let me tell you what I’ve been up to”
Everyone stayed silent as Arlecchino talked.
“I’m not stupid, I know why I was brought back, so please cut me off so slack, I cannot say who brought me here even if I wanted, but at least my killing gets to be flaunted;
Venigni clenched his fist, just like the night his parents were murdered, he would talk like this, every word taunting his victims, never caring for the harm he caused.
“So Krat recently has been a mess Everyone living in such distress; It’s almost as if everything is broken, But tell me what can you break up Even if you never pick it up or touch it?”
Pinocchio thinks hard about it for a few seconds.
“A promise”
“Correct! Good job, you should treat yourself to a nice reward, I wonder what lies in the basement of the Opera House”
After those words were said, Arlecchino hung up the phone.
“Son come here,” Geppetto said while extending his arms, Pinocchio didn’t want to let go, today had been awful.
“This sounds to me like a trap,” Venigni said.
“It could be but…” Pulcinella was deep in thought, “Arlchecchino has always had issues with the alchemists, if one brought him back he mustn't be happy about it”
Venigni realized what Pulcinella was trying to say, “The alchemists are planning something in there, if we investigate and fail he wins by getting rid of us, if we succeed he wins in his plans against the alchemists”
Arlecchino is smart, it’s best to not underestimate him.
“We can keep talking about this tomorrow” It’s late and they live on the other side of the city, Geppetto knows they have to leave.
They said their goodbyes, Pinocchio hugged Venigni before leaving, he wasn’t going to let anyone hurt his uncle, he was going to put a stop to this.
——
As soon as they arrived home, Geppetto wasted no time on asking Pinocchio what was wrong.
“I… I don’t know! Everything!” Pinocchio began to yell, why did all of this have to happen? Why did he go to that stupid event? Why did Arlecchino have to come back just to torment his loved ones?
“Pinocchio it’s okay, I understand that-“
“No, you don’t! No one calls and treats you as if you are just a machine!” Pinocchio was too emotional to hear him properly.
“Son I know those comments are uncalled for and I have asked people to stop but as you can see people do it when we think we aren’t listening” Geppetto sadly can't stop it and doesn't know what else to do, “I’m sorry but this is the reason I didn't want you to come in the first place”
“Well I should have listened to you are you happy?!” Pinocchio was too frustrated now “I hate your work! I hate your stupid job and how your coworkers all see me! I wished you had another job!”
The room became silent, Pinocchio didn’t fully register what he had said until his father started crying and apologizing over again to him. How many times did Carlo say similar things to him? Even if the context is completely different, the sentiment is the same one.
“No Father, I didn’t…I was just…” Pinocchio doesn’t know what to say, it’s not like he truly hates his father’s job but it does bother him the things he has heard and he knows not all of them are like that but he is done hearing everyone talking behind his back.
“I’m tired” Pinocchio just wants this day to end.
The two of them went to bed, but Pinocchio couldn’t sleep that night, so he went to lie down next to his father, hopefully, this was just one bad day.
Hopefully, things will get better.

The Chronicles of the Dark One: Breaking the Curse
Chapter 53: Kernels of Truth
It was five days until he heard from August Booth again. And that was just fine with him.
He'd needed time to cool down after their encounter that night…among other things.
The day after Booth had pretended to be his son, he'd gotten a call from Sidney Glass. He'd confessed to the kidnapping of Kathryn Nolan and needed a lawyer to help him with his deal. Shocking. It had only taken a couple of days to get Sidney settled. Confessing to kidnapping was a lot simpler than fighting a murder charge. One session with Archie had proved that Glass wasn't in his right mind or competent to stand trial. It happened just as he thought it would. Glass was to be confined to a psychiatric ward until he was no longer a danger to himself or others. Regina smiled like Christmas had just come early. Sidney's release could be seven months from now or seven days from now. He imagined that worked just fine for this former pupil. After his part was done he didn't particularly care. But he was grateful for the distraction that Sidney had given him from Booth so that he could focus a bit more on Booth's counterpart…Pinocchio.
He didn't know much about Pinocchio in their land. His "father" was Geppetto. He'd been created from the wood of an enchanted tree that brought him to life, and at some point, the Blue Fairy had turned him into a human boy. It wasn't a lot of information, but fortunately, being cursed in this land had its benefits. Rumpelstiltskin didn't know much about him, but Mr. Gold, on the other hand…he knew Pinocchio's story. He knew how he'd been charged to be good; selfless, brave, and true. After he'd come to life, he'd done the opposite. He'd lied and run away from his father, going to an island of pleasures, and nearly turned into a donkey thanks to the magic of that island. Fortunately for the boy, he'd come to his senses. He'd tried to escape, to get back to his father…and found that his father had come after him. After saving his father from being eaten by a whale, he'd been turned into a boy by the Blue Fairy because he'd finally mastered the art of being selfless, brave, and true. Their stories were not always accurate in this world. Hell, in his own story, his counterpart had torn himself in two when a princess successfully guessed his name. However, if being Mr. Gold and Rumpelstiltskin had taught him anything, it was that these stories always had a grain of truth to them. He couldn't be sure what was truth and what was fact, but he was certain the information would come in handy…as long as he could confirm that Booth was, in fact, the wooden puppet boy.
Fortunately, by the time he finally contacted him a few days later, he knew how he would do it.
"Mr. Gold?"
"Mr. Booth, I was just thinking about you," he smiled when he answered the phone to find that voice.
"We need to meet. It's about Emma," he explained with an eerie calmness to his voice. "There's a…problem."
Well, he should think so. For someone who claimed he was the only one who could make her believe before he died, he was taking his good sweet time with it. So, he figured, what was another hour to set up his brilliant plan.
"Excellent timing. Why don't you come down to the shop in an hour or so."
"Mmhmm."
Neither said goodbye, which was a good thing because he had another call to make and didn't want to spend time on niceties. He looked at a clock on his shelf; one Gold had been meaning to fix for a good long time. If he was right, father wouldn't recognize son. But there was a chance that the puppet might recognize his creator.
When Marco arrived almost exactly five minutes before Booth was due to show up, he nodded to him and brought out the clock. He had hazy memories of doing work with Marco during the years of the Curse. If someone brought in a wood piece that needed restoration or a clock that needed fixing and he couldn't do it himself, then he called Marco. Of course, he was quite the handyman himself after being a broker for all these years. In fact, if he'd taken the time, he probably could have figured out the clock himself. But he'd rather it be used this way.
He was in the middle of looking over his ledger and appraisal of the clock while Marco inspected it to identify the problem when Booth walked into the shop. Right on time.
"Ah, Mr. Booth. I'll be with you in a moment. On second thought, tell me, as one admirer of antiquities to another, do you think it's worth my while having this clock repaired?"
The look August gave when Marco turned to look at him…priceless. And just as perfect as his timing. Now that was all the confirmation that he needed. August Wayne Booth was indeed a son missing his father. It just wasn't him he was missing. It was his creator. Always good to have these little facts straight. Leverage was a beautiful thing. And revenge wasn't half bad either. He'd had to let him live, but there was no reason he couldn't enjoy watching the man suffer in turmoil. Man…perhaps puppet was a better word for it. How ironic after he'd tried to make him a puppet with the dagger.
"I'll take your silence as a yes, then."
"You know, I'm very busy right now. And, uh, I'm just a one-man shop. But, uh, I'll get to the clock as fast as I can," Marco agreed, unknowing that the son he always longed for was only a few steps away.
"I wouldn't ask for anything more."
And with nothing else necessary, Marco scooped up the clock and walked right past his greatest creation without even knowing it. "Good day," he muttered.
August mumbled something, but it was unrecognizable through his shock. He only smiled. Though he longed for the day the Curse would be broken; sometimes, he had to admit…it was a thing of poetry.
"First time seeing dear old dad since you arrived at Storybrooke?"
"I'm so-so-sorry…" August stuttered, clearly still overwhelmed by the experience. But he'd find no pity or grace from him, not after the trick he'd pulled. In fact, he rather enjoyed watching his pain after all that.
"You know, what surprises me is why a man who claims to be at death's door can't even bring himself to say hello to his father. What are you afraid of?" he asked, continuing the torture.
But Booth seemed to be getting control of himself again finally. He smirked almost proudly at him and sighed. "That's, uh…that's my business."
"Oh!" Now he knew the value of privacy. People in glass houses…
He would have been happy to point that out to him, but he knew how to work a situation and work a plan. He prided himself on it. He wouldn't stoop to his level when there were important matters to be discussed. When he'd called, he'd said there was a problem with Emma. What, he wondered, was that?
"Fair enough. Let's talk about ours. You claim to be the only person who can make Miss Swan believe. That you could get her to do exactly what she was brought here to do. And yet, for a man who's running out of time, you don't seem to be in much of a hurry."
"It's not me slowing us down. It's her. All she can think about right now is getting custody of her kid." Emma taking custody of Henry…now that certainly sounded like something that might piss Regina off. That solved part of his problem but not all of it. He needed her focused not on Henry but Regina. He needed them to be angry at each other!
"Sounds like Sheriff Swan needs a course correction," he muttered.
"She's coming to you for legal advice."
"And you want me to steer her toward you?"
"I can get her there, to believing, trust me."
He laughed. "Ah. I'm sorry. It's just that, knowing who you are and your nature, trust is a big ask," he smiled as Booth's faded. That little comment had certainly been worth its weight in…well…for lack of better terms, gold. It sounded as though the stories Gold had read might have more than a kernel of truth to them after all. "Fear not," he muttered, collecting his ledger. "A gentle nudge I shall provide."

We have finally found out who August is! He is Pinocchio! And also the 7-year-old boy that ‘found’ Emma on the side of the road when she was just a baby! Who also abandoned her later on. I don’t know about you, but I’m not a huge August fan. Technically, he’s only back to get Emma to break the curse because he knows he’s a huge screw up and he doesn’t want to turn back into wood. If the wood thing wasn’t happening would he even be there to help her? Would he even care? But onto the review.
Summary: August takes Emma to the place she was found as a baby to get her to see the bigger picture in her fight against Regina and makes some startling revelations to Emma. In the EF we see that two people could go through the enchanted wardrobe and Geppetto negotiates with the Blue Fairy that Pinocchio be the one to go.
Opening: Jiminy Cricket
Character Observations:
August/Pinocchio: So if the viewers haven’t ascertained who August was back in the EF, this first scene pretty much tells you. August, the writer, has just finished installing a new lock on Mary Margaret and Emma’s apartment door. August claims he learned how to build locks in woodshop. Ok then.  They discuss Emma fighting for custody of Henry until Henry walkie-talkies a code red.  August follows Emma and tells her she needs to look at the big picture to beat Regina and wants to take her somewhere. August wants her to take a leap of faith. She says Henry needs her, she doesn’t have time for faith. August looks like he doesn’t know what to do next. Next we see August fondling the hat we’ve seen Pinocchio wear in flashbacks, in case you still weren’t sure. He calls Gold and says they need to talk. Pretty bold way to talk to someone who had a knife to your throat a few days ago. His leg starts hurting again and now we finally see why. His leg has started turning into wood!! August goes to Gold’s shop where Marco is looking at a cuckoo clock Gold wants fixed. August’s face when looking at Marco is so full of angst and guilt. Some great acting here from Eion Bailey. If Gold wasn’t sure who August was before, August’s face and stuttering when seeing Marco definitely clinches it. Gold wants to know why August isn’t getting Emma to believe since he seems to be under a time crunch with his ‘dying’ and all. August says she’s too busy trying to fight for Henry and will be coming to Gold for legal advice. Gold says he’ll steer her toward August. August says he’ll get Emma there, trust him. Gold finds that very funny knowing who August is, but he’ll give her a nudge in the right direction. Emma comes to August so he can show her the big picture. They take his motorcycle outside of Storybrooke to learn August’s story. They go to a diner. Emma is pissed because she recognizes it as the diner she was brought to when she was found as a baby. August explains he was the boy that found her. They walk toward the tree they came through. Emma is arguing that she was found near the highway, not a magic tree. He says he had to lie about where he found her. Tells her about her baby blanket and that he’s Pinocchio. She figures out he added the story to Henry’s book. August says he needs her to know the truth. Everything will end once she believes. Emma, predictably, runs off, but, of course, that’s when August’s wooden leg starts giving him pain. He’s upset because he failed with her. He tells her it doesn’t matter if she believes or not because it’s still real. He’s sick. He was in Phuket when Emma decided to stay in Storybrooke and he woke up to a shooting pain in his leg at exactly 8:15 pm Storybrooke time. August shows Emma his leg, she only sees a leg, she doesn’t see that it’s turned into wood. He tells her she is in denial. He tells her everyone needs her. Emma doesn’t want that responsibility.  August says that doesn’t change the truth. Emma says they’re all screwed then. August goes to visit Marco who is having trouble fixing the clock Gold gave him to fix. August gives him the same advice he once had given him. They have a heart to heart where Marco basically tells him that he did his best, he made a mistake and he tried to fix it, and if he had a son that would be enough for him. August offers to be his assistant.
Pinocchio: We all know the story of Pinocchio. A wooden puppet brought to life who learns a series of life lessons because he can’t listen to his father. He has a nose that grows when he lies. And eventually he saves his father when he gets eaten by a whale and for that bravery, he is granted the wish of becoming a real boy by the Blue Fairy, the latter part we see here in this episode. The Blue Fairy says he must be brave, truthful, and unselfish, and as long as he does so, he will stay a real boy. Way to put pressure on a 7-year-old. I know very few kids that age that are brave, truthful, and unselfish. That’s something they have to learn and grow into. Not basically threaten them that they won’t be real anymore. Geez! Next we see Pinocchio helping Geppetto fix a cuckoo clock and when it opens, Jiminy Cricket tied up inside. Geppetto reminds him about what the Blue Fairy said. And speaking of the Blue Fairy, she arrives to let Geppetto know that the curse is coming and about the enchanted tree. They all go see it and the Blue Fairy lets them know it will protect two people. What? Geppetto wants Pinocchio to go through with a pregnant Snow. We see Pinocchio in the War Council sanding his wooden whale, then we see the curse coming. The Blue Fairy tells them that Snow’s baby came early so Pinocchio can’t go through anymore. Pinocchio wants to tell Snow that two can go through so she and the baby can go over together. Geppetto makes him get in the wardrobe and tells him to watch over the princess. Pinocchio tells Geppetto he told him not to lie. He says sometimes you have to lie to protect people. He tells Pinocchio to be the baby’s protector. Pinocchio doesn’t want to leave. Geppetto makes him promise to get the princess to believe and closes the wardrobe door. Pinocchio blasts out of a tree in the Land without Magic. He freaks out when he sees a plane flying overhead. He’s then knocked out by a rainbow shockwave and baby Emma is now in the tree. We see that he and Emma were put into a foster home. Pinocchio is trying to be helpful by fixing Emma’s crib, but the foster father yells at him and threatens him about touching his tools. Another kid has stolen some money and wants Pinocchio to runaway with him and the other kids. He hesitates because of Emma, but ends up leaving. Ok, that is a lot of pressure to put on a kid. I’m sorry. I don’t blame Pinocchio for leaving Emma. He has no idea what kind of life she’ll have, but he’s seven. And he hasn’t even been a real boy for that long. He didn’t even want to leave his father in the first place.
Geppetto/Marco: We see the ending of the Pinocchio story that we know. Geppetto has just been rescued by Pinocchio from the whale and the whale isn’t happy and they end up washed up on shore. Geppetto wishes he could save Pinocchio and the Blue Fairy appears and grants his wish by turning Pinocchio into a real boy for being so brave. Now it’s time for the curse. The Blue Fairy comes to Geppetto before the Charmings to ask him about building the wardrobe. She tells him that two people can go through it, obviously pregnant Snow and Charming, but Geppetto is afraid Pinocchio will be turned back into wood when the curse hits. The Blue Fairy says she doesn’t know what will happen. Geppetto says he wants Pinocchio to take the second spot and that Snow can raise the baby without her husband. Jiminy argues with him about this, but he says that after what he did to his parents his debt can never be fulfilled to him, and to butt out. The Blue Fairy agrees to his terms. I don’t understand Geppetto’s negotiation tactics. The curse is coming, and he is asked to build a wardrobe out of a magical tree to whisk the Charmings away to a land without magic, so their baby can eventually break the curse. Geppetto is worried that Pinocchio will get turned back into wood when the curse comes, so he negotiates with the Blue Fairy that he won’t build it unless Pinocchio gets to go through the wardrobe as well. But if he doesn’t build the wardrobe, Pinocchio will still get turned into wood. Then we see the War Council scene and looks like Geppetto is being asked for the first time from the Blue Fairy to build a wardrobe, but now we know better. We go to the curse coming. The Blue Fairy tells Geppetto that Snow gave birth to the baby early and has to go in the wardrobe with her. Geppetto says they made a deal. The Blue Fairy doesn’t want to argue. She has other things to do and tasks Geppetto with telling Snow the truth about how many the wardrobe can hold. Seriously? Geppetto tells Pinocchio to get in the wardrobe and tells him he needs to protect the baby and makes him promise to get her to believe. I get that Geppetto was scared for Pinocchio, but what parent in their right mind sends their 7-year-old off with a newborn? A 7-year-old who has the worst track record when it comes to responsibility? Worst plan ever.
We don’t really see much of Marco. Gold wants him to fix a cuckoo clock for him, but it’s really just a ploy to see August’s reaction to him since he suspects August in Pinocchio. Then August goes and has a talk with him, in which Marco says he would forgive a son for whatever it is August did since he did try and fix his mistake.
Emma: She is in full mama bear mode. Mary Margaret asks Emma if she’s sure she is ready to be a mother. Emma says yes. Then they are interrupted by Henry calling a Code Red for Operation Cobra over the walkie-talkie. She meets him at Granny’s. Henry noticed there is new, unfinished story in the book. It’s Pinocchio. Emma goes to Gold and asks him to help her take Henry away from Regina. He won’t help her. They can’t prove any of the accusations Emma has against her and he knows how to pick his battles. She goes to August so he can show her the big picture. They go off on August’s motorcycle and leave Storybrooke. They go to a roadside diner and Emma is pissed. She thinks August is screwing with her because it’s the diner she was brought to when she was discovered as a baby. August tells her it’s his story too. He’s the 7-year-old who found her. Not what Emma was expecting. August brings her into the woods. He tells her he is showing her where she was found. She says it couldn’t be him because she was found on the side of the highway. He asks her if it ever occurred to her that the boy lied about where he found her. She says it occurs to her that he’s been lying to her about everything and she’s done listening to him. He says he knows about her baby blanket. That gets her to listen. He reminds her about Henry’s book and how she came into this world, that they both came to this world through the tree. He tells her he’s Pinocchio. She says that explains all the lying. Emma realizes August added the story to the book. He needed her to know the truth. She thinks he’s crazy; why didn’t he write the ending. He says the ending is her believing. Emma has had enough. She runs off, but August’s leg starts hurting him. She wants to know what’s wrong with his leg. He says he failed, tells her the story of Phuket, and shows her his wooden leg. Emma still thinks Henry’s curse talk is pure fantasy, so she doesn’t see a wooden leg, she sees a normal leg. Just like when Graham thought he didn’t have a heart Emma could hear a heartbeat. August tells her she needs to believe, everyone needs her to believe. Emma doesn’t want that responsibility. August throws out that she didn’t want Henry either and now she’s fighting for him. She says that’s all she can handle. And if everyone is relying on her then they’re all screwed. Back in Storybrooke, Emma wakes up Henry over the walkie-talkie. He gets in her car and she tells him to buckle up because they’re leaving town! Honestly, by this point, I’d think Emma might start believing. Henry’s been trying to get her to believe, she was kidnapped by Jefferson who talked about believing, and now August. Can she really think that all these people are just crazy?
Blue Fairy: Um, she put the most insane restrictions on a puppet turned boy that had done nothing but be bad up to this point. She made a bullshit deal with Geppetto to get the magical tree turned into a wardrobe. She then lied to Snow and Charming about how many people could go through the wardrobe. Then she left when she knew Geppetto wasn’t going to abandon having Pinocchio go through that wardrobe. So far the Blue Fairy hasn’t done anything to make me like her. She just makes bad decisions and choices all the time.
Regina: She talks to Mary Margaret at school because Henry has forgotten his lunch. Mary Margaret calmly informs her that Henry is with his mother. Regina wants to know if something is wrong. Mary Margaret says that someone went to an awful lot of trouble to set her up. Regina reminds her that was Sidney. Mary Margaret says she knows it wasn’t, but she forgives her anyway. Why is Regina acting like she didn’t tell Mary Margaret she knew she was innocent but she was going to pay for what she did anyway? Henry arrives and Regina tells him she thinks he should transfer to another class. He wants to know if it’s because she tried to frame Mary Margaret. Regina actually looks hurt that Henry could believe that of her. He says of course he believes it, she’s the Evil Queen. She says she’s lucky she doesn’t get Mary Margaret fired for giving him the story book. Um, on what grounds? If she’s been reinstated after false murder charges, I doubt anything Regina says will get her fired otherwise. Henry yells about Snow White and Prince Charming getting their happy ending and ending the curse. We next see Regina trying to fix her car. The engine won’t start. David just happens to be leaving work. He offers to take her and her car full of groceries (since when does 2 bags constitute a car full) home. She invites him in for dinner. He says no, but then she reads a (blank) note from Henry saying he won’t be home tonight, so David feels bad and stays. So they eat dinner and David offers to do the dishes. He asks Regina about how she found him. She makes up a story about forgetting her phone and going back for it and finding him on the way back. David says it was like the universe wanted her to find him. So of course she tries to kiss him. Ew! He backs away before any actual lip touching can occur, thank goodness. He says they’re good the way they are. Come on Regina, you’re supposed to be good friends with his ex-wife. Girl code much? Now, I’m not sure if Regina has tears in her eyes because she’s supposed to be playing the victim or if she is actually upset that she really can’t seduce David, but either way, after he leaves she takes a good look at herself in the mirror, does not like what she sees, and throws her wine glass at it.
Mary Margaret: She’s making sure that Emma truly wants Henry and isn’t just trying to get custody of him because of her grudge against Regina. Emma says she’s truly ready. Mary Margaret is back at the school and really happy about it. Regina comes by to give Henry his lunch and Mary Margaret gives Regina the calmest beat down I’ve ever seen. Mary Margaret should be yelling obscenities at Regina for all the hell she put her through (even though Regina tries to convince her that it was all Sidney, Mary Margaret ain’t buying what Regina is selling), but instead, she is calm. She forgives Regina, which you can tell infuriates her. Mary Margaret continues by saying that Regina must be real lonely if the only way she can be happy is to destroy everyone else’s happiness. Ding! Ding! Ding! You are correct Mary Margaret.
Henry: He has finally discovered the new pages in the book. Took him long enough. We’ve seen both him and Emma look at the book several times since August put the pages in. Henry also beats down Regina later when she wants Henry to be transferred out of Mary Margaret’s class. Henry, don’t antagonize her, it just makes her do stupid things like try to seduce David. We last see Henry getting into Emma’s car and she’s trying to take him out of Storybrooke. We’ll see how this ends up in the next episode.
Questions:
It took Henry, what, a few weeks to finally discover Pinocchio’s story had been added to the book?
Regina said Sidney is incarcerated. When did he have a trial? Did he leave Storybrooke? Is he in prison somewhere outside of Storybrooke? I thought no one could leave.
What happened to the rest of the enchanted trees?
Why did they have to build a wardrobe out of the tree? Why couldn’t they just put a hole in the tree to go through?
How would Geppetto not building the wardrobe benefit him in anyway? And are there no other wood carvers out there that could build it?
Why wasn’t Pinocchio’s story in the book in the first place? Henry knew Marco was Geppetto, so something had to be in there for Henry to know.
What preparations did the Blue Fairy have to go make before the curse? Nothing is supposed to be left afterward. Or was that just a test for Geppetto that he failed spectacularly?
Did August write the book somehow? How did he know there was a book and how did he know to add his story to it?
How was Pinocchio’s story not finished? We see an illustration of the whale after Geppetto and Pinocchio escaped from it, was that all it went to? Did it not show Pinocchio turning into a real boy? If it did, what else does there need to be?
How does Emma get back to Storybrooke? Did she ride back with August?
When did Pinocchio start going by August Wayne Booth? Did he randomly make it up, or did he go by something else as a kid? What name did he tell the social worker when they brought him and Emma to the foster home?
Where does August get money from? Did he really make that much as a writer that he doesn’t need to work anymore?
Observations:
Mary Margaret comments to Regina that ruining people’s happiness is only going to leave a giant hole in her heart. Maleficent said the same thing to Regina in 1x02 The Thing You Love Most.
Henry has a Tron lunchbox.
The clock Gold wants Marco to repair is the same one Geppetto teaches Pinocchio to repair.
Pinocchio as a puppet has blue eyes like August’s. Pinocchio as a real boy has hazel eyes.
Emma stops right in front of the unicorn mobile in Gold’s shop when talking to him.
Geppetto knows that Jiminy is responsible for his parents being turned into puppets.
The Blue Fairy lied!
Emma and August can leave Storybrooke.
The diner August brought baby Emma to is called Chantey’s Lobster House.
Emma and Pinocchio were brought to a forest not too far from where Storybrooke ended up.
Phuket is in Thailand.
August says his leg started turning back to wood when Emma made the decision to stay in Storybrooke. He says this was at 8:15 Storybrooke time, but it wasn’t. The clock was stuck at 8:15. That doesn’t mean that was the time she made the decision.
Marco has the wooden whale that Pinocchio made in the EF.
This was a good episode, but many people made bad choices here. Geppetto made a bad choice to let Pinocchio go through the wardrobe and take care of a newborn instead of informing Snow and Charming about it. The Blue Fairy made a bad choice in first, lying to Snow and Charming, and then to not tell them herself about the wardrobe after Snow had Emma early. Pinocchio made a bad choice in leaving Emma, but he was seven, so he didn’t have the best judgement. August seems to have made a lot of bad choices that he’s now trying to make up for by getting Emma to believe so he can save his own skin (literally). Emma is making a bad choice by trying to leave Storybrooke with Henry. Two more episodes until the end of season one!

The Black Fairy’s curse has torn Emma and Henry away from their family. Can Henry remind his Mom who she really is in time for the Final Battle? Let’s recap how Once Upon a Musical brought us to this point and get a sneak peek of tonight’s two-hour finale!
Courtesy of ABC/Jack Rowand
Last week’s Once Upon a Time fulfills every expectation that the lead up to Once Upon a Musical and the CaptainSwan wedding promised. In past and present, we get to enjoy Disney’s signature singing and dancing. While a villainous threat almost prevails, family and love eventually win the day. It’s romantic and so beautiful.
“The Song in Your Heart” opens with young Emma, back in the group home in Minneapolis in 1991. She’s very excited about an upcoming talent show and is practicing her singing. This is until one of the older girls, mocks Emma, telling her that she isn’t special. Emma is now discouraged and, presumably, doesn’t enter the talent show.
In the flashback to the Enchanted Forest, Snow is increasingly frustrated with the Evil Queen’s threats. How are she and Charming supposed to protect their child? Charming tries to encourage Snow to rest, but before doing so, in an act of desperation she makes a wish that they could help Emma and give her a chance at a happy ending.
And the next morning, Snow and Charming wake up SINGING!!!
The first song “Powerful Magic” features Snow and Charming trying to figure out what’s going on, realizing that it’s a consequence of Snow’s wish the previous night, and that this is actually a good thing: “’cause love expressed through song is a weapon like the Queen has never seen!” This is how they’ll be able to defeat the Evil Queen and protect Emma.
When we meet the Evil Queen, we see that she is also bound up in singing spell. In “The Queen Sings”/”Love Doesn’t Stand a Chance”, the Evil Queen finds out from her Mirror about Snow’s wish and how it threatens her Dark Curse. The kingdom is all in joyous song, from the dwarves to Geppetto, Pinocchio, and Jiminy, and even Granny too. However, Evil Queen breaks into an awesome rock ballad emphasizing that “love is a waste of time. I’m here to tell you with love’s magic spell, you cannot match the power of mine.” Her Dark Curse won’t be stopped by the Charmings.
The Charmings need passage to reach the Evil Queen’s castle and go to a pub to commission Captain Hook’s Jolly Roger. However, Hook has no interest in their money; the only thing he wants in vengeance. And this begin’s Hook’s ode to Rumple “Revenge is Gonna Be Mine”: “Some say let it go, but I say hell no, I’m finally on the right path. Soon the Dark One will feel the fire of this pirate’s wrath!” Once the Charmings realize that Hook wants Rumple, they promise to turn him over in exchange for their passage.
Evil Queen goes to see Rumple, and interestingly, he isn’t bound by the Charmings’ singing wish. What’s more, if EQ wants to prove that Rumple was right to choose her to cast the Dark Curse, she better go find a way to fix things.
Meanwhile, Zelena, Wicked Witch of the West, watches this and sees an opportunity. Maybe when Zelena fails, Rumple will choose her, because “Wicked Always Wins”: “Oh, I will fly into tomorrow. My sister full of sorrow..Her life was so enchanted, she took it all for granted…Oh, evil may be powerful, but wicked always wins.” Zelena decides to trick EQ into using a spell she’s created. That way Zelena can swoop in, claim credit, and Rumple will realize his mistake.
Finally, the Snow and Charming arrive to face off against the Evil Queen. In “Charmings vs. Evil Queen” we have the ultimate battle via sing-off– Snow/Charming: “With our daughter’s fate at stake, seems we found a lucky break. Now let our song show the powerful magic. Now let our song show the power we can make!” Evil Queen: “Happy endings you will see, but the happy end will end with me! Love doesn’t stand a chance!”
EQ uses Zelena’s wicked spell and takes away everyone’s song.
Just when the Charmings think they’re down, the Blue Fairy comes to see them. She’s the one who granted Snow’s wish. Snow and Charming still have their song, but the magic isn’t meant to fight the Evil Queen; it’s meant for Emma. When the time comes for a Final Battle, Emma will have the voices of the people who love her inside her heart and she won’t be alone. According to Blue, when they all wake up tomorrow, no one will remember the magic singing. But who will remind Emma of the song in her heart? Blue didn’t know, but had hope…
In present-day Storybrooke, Emma, Killian, and company are making the final preparations for the wedding. Emma is trying to select her wedding dress when Snow says that her wedding dress made it over from the Dark Curse. Emma is very excited and agrees to wear the dress. However, when Snow brings the dress from the dry cleaners, and Emma is about to try it on (with Regina and Zelena too), the Black Fairy appears and destroys the gown. Now they know Rumple never banished her. Black Fairy makes an interesting proposal–if Emma surrenders her heart, Black Fairy will leave the rest of her loved one’s alone. Regardless, the final battle is coming.
When BF leaves, Emma, Snow, Regina, and Zelena go to the clocktower and see the threat is very real. There’s enough black fairy dust to curse Storybrooke ten times over… when the tower strikes 6pm (the time of CaptainSwan wedding), the dust will be released. Emma is determined to solve this on her own, but Regina, in particular, promises to stop the Black Fairy.
Meanwhile, Killian is with Charming on the Jolly Roger. Charming is trying to convince his future son-in-law to wear a white suit for the wedding and Killian seems less than excited. They’re interrupted by Emma who has come to tell KIllian about the Black Fairy’s threat to separate her from her family so she has to fight the Final Battle alone. Killian wants to help her, but Emma refuses. She wants to protect him. Emma seems to reassure Killian that she’ll be there for the wedding, but Killian sees through her. She’s come to say goodbye in case her plan doesn’t work.
Killian won’t let Emma tackle this alone and goes to confront Rumple and the shop. Killian knocks Rumple out with some dreamshade to keep him from continuing to help his mother. Unfortunately Black Fairy intervenes.
At the Sheriff’s station, Emma is sorting through family mementos when Henry joins her. He encourages Emma, telling her that she can win the Final Battle. It’s the reason she was brought to Storybrooke. While talking Henry plays the tape of Emma from 1991, when she was practicing her song, but Emma immediately turns it off.
Similarly, Regina and Zelena are searching for a loophole to stop the Black Fairy’s curse and develop and idea. If Regina can isolate the part of the curse that stops time, she can prevent it from happening. Regina makes a potion to do just that, but as she’s showing it to the Charmings, Rumple intervenes. He seizes the potion… When Emma confronts the Black Fairy at the Mayor’s office, we see that Rumple has used the potion to freeze Emma’s loved ones. BF then taunts Emma, calling her weak and hopeless. She also plays that same tune of Emma humming.
Emma returns to the Sheriff’s station with Henry and tries to regroup. She shares how hearing herself singing reminds her of a time when she was alone, when no one even cared to listen to her sing a song. Henry tries to reassure his mother: things have changed and she can still save everyone. Emma agrees to do so by sacrificing herself. She’ll give the Black Fairy her heart and leaves to do so.
Henry doesn’t know how to help his mom. He becomes upset and knocks the Fairy Tale book from the desk… and, as if by magic, the page about Blue placing the songs in Emma’s heart appear. This is how they could beat the Black Fairy! Henry rushes to meet Emma as she’s in the process of handing over her heart. Black Fairy removes Emma’s heart and tries to crush it, but isn’t able to. Emma’s heart is stronger and the source of that strength is “Emma’s Theme”: “All the years of running, no, not anymore. I know what I’m living for. I’m no longer searching. Turns out all along the answer was inside me with a song.”
Emma breaks the spell that’s freezing her family and Henry returns her heart. They’ve won, for now! But Black Fairy still promises her curse will come.
Regardless, Emma and Killian will enjoy the time they have left. They get married! Emma and Killian, surrounded by their family and friends, recite their vows of love and exchange rings. They promise to love each other for all eternity and it’s SO LOVELY.
Jiminy declares Emma and Killian husband and wife…not an HEA, but “A Happy Beginning”: “Used to think that’s what I wanted, but now I finally know…There’s no storm we can’t outrun. We will always find the sun. Leave the past and all its scars, a happy beginning now is ours.”
We are treated to a beautiful, choreographed song, with CaptainSwan, the Charmings, Regina/Zelena/Henry, and the townsfolk in celebration!
Unfortunately, they are interrupted when the clock strikes 6pm and the Black Fairy’s curse is released. We have no idea what’s coming, but Emma promises: “Wherever we end up, we’ll win.”

In tonight’s Once Upon a Time Season 6 finale, “The Finale Battle” Parts 1 and 2 (written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz with Part 1 directed by Steve Pearlman, and Part 2 directed by Ralph Hemecker):
THE BLACK FAIRY’S CURSE LANDS OUR HEROES IN FAIRY TALE LAND WITH LITTLE HOPE OF RETURNING HOME, AND EMMA IS IN THE FIGHT OF HER LIFE—Henry awakens to a cursed Storybrooke and discovers Emma has been in the mental hospital, and the Black Fairy is the new mayor. Henry attempts to help Emma regain her memory while Gold tries to find out what has really happened to Belle. Meanwhile, Snow, Charming, Regina, Zelena and Hook are trapped in a crumbling Fairy Tale Land and desperately try to figure out a way to be reunited with Emma and Henry. (via ABC)
In these two clips from tonight’s episode, we see that the Heroes are in trouble. In the first clip, Henry goes to see Emma in the mental institution and she’s convinced that the truth about her family and the curse are delusions. Henry tries to encourage Emma to remember, but she gets frustrated with him. Meanwhile, in Fairy Tale Land, Killian, the Charmings, and Regina wake up in the Enchanted Forest and realize what has happened:

“Curses have never stopped us before. Today will be no different.”
This is incredible that Emma thinks she’s been in the mental institution since the end of Season 1! I feel so bad for Henry… what if Black Fairy tries to lock him up too! At least we know the Heroes in the Enchanted Forest are working to reunite the family.
I just have to say I feel a lot of rage towards Rumple right now… I hope he’s satisfied *SARCASM*
Take a look at 20+ images from both parts of “The Final Battle”, including a look at Emma in the hospital.
Remember, we’re getting THREE hours of Once Upon a Time tonight! At 7:00pm ET|PT, ABC is airing the Once Upon aTime: The Final Battle Begins behind-the-scenes special. Then at 8:00pm ET|PT the Season 6 finale begins. Tune in and live tweet with me (@WeSoNerdy)!
