Tonks sank into the armchair next to their bed. Teddy was in her arms having finally fallen asleep after his feed. 

It was two days after the full moon, and Remus was snoring softly in the bed, his lined face lit by the soft moonlight piercing through the slit in the curtains. He’d stirred when Teddy had cried out, but Tonks had urged him back to sleep. He needed it more than she did right now.

Besides, she adored her quiet time with her favourite little bloke. Teddy’s hair ran through the entire colour spectrum while he was feeding. A rippled rainbow of satisfaction. She told him stories during these night feeds, soft murmurs of her adventures at school, already teaching him the mischief she was sure she’d be getting owls from his teachers about. Her voice kept him calm, whenever she stopped talking he would pull away from her breast with an offended cry.

She never realised how much love she could have for another person. She loved Remus, and her parents. Tears still sprang to her eyes at every thought or mention of her dad. Some mornings she still woke up and had forgotten in her dreams that he was gone, and would have to remember all over again.

Here, in the quiet of the night with her son, she could let the tears fall. She didn’t have to be strong for her mother, or reassure Remus that she was ok. It was only little Teddy who knew her secrets, and he would keep them for her. 

Yes she loved Remus and her parents, but it was nothing compared to the love she felt for the child in her arms. She had carried him, grown him in her belly for nine months and brought him to the world, pink and screaming. The moment he’d been laid on her chest, she knew she would do anything to keep him safe.

Teddy snuffled in his sleep, and his light snores brought a soft smile to her face. She ran her hand softly across his hair, which had turned sandy brown in his sleep. From the bed, Remus’ soft snores matched his sons and warmed her heart.

There was a war raging beyond their walls, but here and now, Tonks was going to enjoy her family.

While I'm here I'll ask a question too. Kinda related to your recent gifsets with Tim's and Hawk's colour palettes. What's your favourite outfit for each of them in the series?

no but for real, tim's entire '70s look is so iconic. the lesbian lumberjack flannel and jeans, that insane sweatervest, even that simple hoodie -- i want it all.

also adore the matching cabin!husbands flannel for hawk and tim in 1968, and the return of the ugly christmas sweater in 1986 (now with tie-dyed tee!)

but also also. the tweed + bowtie combo of election night? no wonder hawk fell for him immediately.

as for hawk, lmao, i mean. he dresses impeccably, but so boring in comparison. give me tim laughin gender any day.

absolute favorite outfit duo is tim's 1953 christmas sweater + hawk's white tank and (skippy's) tie. honestly, hawk wearing skippy's 'collar' (esp so perfectly matching tim's sweater) broke my brain.

so what's maybe different about my giffing process is that i actually rarely abandon gifsets. like if i start making it, i'm locked in, i have to finish and get the idea out my brain. on the rare occasion i don't finish a set, then i'll readapt any gifs i made for another set (but i could actually only find one instance of a set that i had abandoned this year, and i'd adapted it for another set instead). so this is a selection of gifs that i either cut from a set as i had to narrow down choices, or an 'original' look at a gif before i changed it. because of that, i'm going to link the set it was made alongside or was adapted into for comparison!

this gif became altered for this kanej week + book to screen gifset. it originally started off as just a quote gifset. i started making this just after s2 dropped, but i think a mutual posted a set of kanej + this quote around the same time and i didn't want to be copying it so i ended up never finishing the set. when kanej week rolled around i ended up reusing the two gifs i made (this one + the one that became 'never stop fighting'), but damn, i did love this blue, and looking at it now i actually think this one came out better

2. an early version of my kanej week quotes set. i did several for this set with a gif inside the font, but i just really hated the way it looked overall, and at the last minute changed it. i still reused all the gifs i'd made though - you can see the two here in the second panel!

3. the original take on the third gif in this inej eps set. i ultimately changed it because i didn't like the blend, particularly that you couldn't see the knife being played with which is a moment i really wanted to include. but i do adore the yellow light shining on her as she's praying, there's something almost saintly about it, and wish i'd been able to incorporate it as i wanted to (please ignore the line it's just there because i gave up and never fixed it!)

4. a gif from this 'la vie en rose' ed and stede gifset. i thought the way they looked at each other with stede tilting his head was so cute, but ultimately i found blending the scenes a little messy and it didn't really match the other gifs/the lyrics so i cut it.

5. cut from this choni set, i basically cut this because there was a lot of movement in the scene and i wasn't happy with the colouring - they lean in to kiss and that meant there were a lot of issues with colouring layers overlapping skin and at that point i'd done a lot of frame-by-frame colouring and was feeling too lazy to do this one too.

there we go! this gives a bit of an insight into my giffing process too, it's always interesting how gifsets change as you continue to work on them to find what works, so hopefully this also provides a bit of before and after!

I wanted to point out that Gale always look so soft and adoring in all your gifsets (I also adore that you put him in comfy robes because that would be his thing tbh). Did you install a previous datamined face of his or am I tripping? Either way, fucking gorgeous coloring and angles on both gifs and photos!!!!

and yes, i am using gale's ea headmorph + eye colour mod from @padme4000, which largely restores gale's previous ea design.

i'm sort of attached to the "old" gale after having played early access for almost three years and larian only changing gale's appearance shortly before release.

Hello lovely anon! I do have a couple of gifs that are my favourites, thank you for asking, even if I do feel awkward tooting my own horn/showing off my stuffs.

For the HOTD its these two pretties from when I started playing around with gradients and mask layers - I'm particularly fond of Aegon's I adore it. OH and this Alicent & Rhaenyra gif!

and more recently I played around with colours after rewatching Blade Runner 2049 because.. I just love colours alright? And I am mesmerised by the yellow set...

(couldn't find it in gif finder so yeah I'm reposting but it's fine bc it's my own gif.)

I would love to do more colour gradient/rainbow sets of films/shows but get worried no one wants to see it/cares for it BUT I am working on getting rid of that mind set, I need to trust and follow my own creative flow more often...anyway this was long winded lmao xo

ooh this is a hard one bc i now have to narrow down who the underrated character is and then choose my favourite fanwork about them! ahhh do you enjoy causing me pain??? haha okay let me think!

so i absolutely adore @cody-helix02's art of doc bryan (i know we all love him but he's not actually talked about much at all on here so he classes as underrated in my opinion) also cody's sketch of cobb!! he is so tiny and adorable there i can't cope

then we have @jenkil's gifset of the reporter!! look i just adore this gifset so much1!! everything fits perfectly with him! and the colour scheme is genuinely one of my favourites ever!!

@andromeddog's art of bull is beautiful!! i really really love it. and i know malarkey isn't underrated but their malarkey is top 3 favourite fanarts for me!! it's so so so good!!!!

i love love looooove @cedobols blithe as well!! it's so pretty!

do you have any tips for high quality mv gifsets? your gifsets are so clear!

hiii 💜 thanku so much <3 and honestly i think it mostly comes down to file size / sharpening / and a bit of colouring!

i've posted my sharpening settings here! and lately i've really loved stronger sharpening settings but on kpop music videos - a little bit of 1% noise really helps to cover any background dither especially with bright colours!

but for me!! the biggest difference has been file size. i started making gifs by screen-recording (including music videos) but that can cause a reduction in video quality so then i downloaded the individual music videos in the highest resolution from youtube (using 4k video downloader) and screencapping the exact frames to make gifs!

but even then youtube still has a very compressed file format for kpop music videos so the real clear gifs can be made from bugs! file formats or master versions of kpop music videos <3 this is an explanation from reddit below to clear up what bugs! music videos are.

now i don't have a korean citizenship or a bugs account but it's still possible to access these music videos through people who have bought and uploaded the files! you can use sharemania or another good website is kpopjams! i know people use 4sashi and kpop24hrs but kpop24hrs signups are closed so i've never been able to access it and 4sashi just confuses me 😭

overall i've found more bugs! files for kpop girl groups as opposed to boy groups (and i felt like i was literally digging for svt master files from the depths of the internet) but the difference is so satisfying

Every week I think, yep, Big Dragon - favourite show right there. But then the next episode is even better than the last one and here I am, with five gifsets in one evening and ideas for about a dozen more. I'm truly living my best life, even if my version of photoshop is waging a constant war against Windows 11 🥲

But on to this week’s episode review:

This episode is aptly titled Good Old Days, and there’s so many flashbacks and memories and little stories being told. It’s all woven together so well. It even comes with its own red thread of fate.

It all starts with a flashback of a flashback and we learn two things almost immediately: Mangkorn’s really close to his mum and she knows about her son’s crush. Being the amazing mother that she is, she approves.

Her son has his eyes on the Moon of Business Administration, after all (what a catch!).

That his crush goes back to their first year of uni didn’t really shock me because the reveal is pretty much the same as in the book (which has even more of an enemies to lovers vibe - honey, stop punching your future boyfriend just so you can be near him). I’m actually really happy that they kept this part in because I really liked the “plot twist” (hey, it counts as a plot twist if there’s hardly any plot). They even hinted at their whole rivalry only being a thing because Mangkorn kept hanging out at Yai’s Faculty and everyone thought he was there to “steal” girls (when in reality he was there to make heart eyes at Yai). 

Mangkorn fell first AND he fell harder. This is it, this is the whole show.

Well, a big part of it anyway.

And speaking of Big.

I’m definitely not immune to older characters kneeling down to tend to their lover’s shoes/feet. There’s just something almost reverent about it. An unwritten rule that is broken because someone just cares so very deeply.

If only Nine knew about the colour-coding in Big Dragon, then he’d realise that Yai's wearing a red jacket and that’s Mangkorn’s colour. He never stood a chance.

But I loved this repeat of a similar shot in episode 2, when Mangkorn and Yai meet in the hospital:

Nine is even wearing the same kind of shoes that Yai usually prefers. He truly is the embodiment of Yai’s comfort zone - which makes Nine’s metaphor about well-worn, comfortable shoes so fitting. Only that Yai is very direct in saying that he sees Nine as an older brother only.

Which is why I don’t get why he’s kissing Nine back for a full minute in slow motion and several different camera angles, but hey, it’s Big Thanakorn. I don’t blame him (Star Hunter, I beg you, give this man his own show! It’s been 84 years etc).

Maybe this is why Nine refuses to read the room even after Yai tells him to never do it again. 

Enter the yin & yang pendant Yai conveniently loses as a kid while playing with - gasp! - Mangkorn (negl I’m not a fan of the whole “I’ve loved you since we were children” trope but I get why they included it here). 

But the red thread of fate it’s hanging from is even more obvious, and it weaves its way through the entire episode, thereby connecting the past and the present - and binding together Mangkorn and Yai.

Meanwhile, in the present, Mangkorn contemplates doing his Master’s abroad - something he obviously didn’t plan for as long as he thought he had Yai in his life (no, really, was he like “no, I can’t go to New York. There’s this crush I fight every day at his Faculty building. Clearly I can’t go!”).

Oh, and apparently he’s told everyone - and I mean everyone! - about his crush on Yai. He’s told his Mum. He’s told Ajo. He’s told Hong. They’re all rooting for him! At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if he told his professors, too (which will come in handy once he withdraws from the program). This is just so damn adorable.

Too bad Yai won’t have any of it.

This scene is incredible in so many different ways, though.

It’s set in an empty room, one side red, the other a murky green, all strict vertical lines that can’t be crossed. The room is a piece of their past, a (messed up) memory that Yai wants to destroy, while Mangkorn (as part of his job as an intern) wants to preserve it. He clings to “their story” in the same way.

But Yai has a different story to tell. It’s shown through a mirror and it’s really unnerving, the way it makes Yai almost irrecognisable (and this is all Mangkorn gets to see - he doesn’t see how much Yai struggles with his emotions, too).

If only Yai knew how close he is to the truth, though. Mangkorn has wanted to get close to Yai for years, even though it hurt him. And now Yai is telling him to “stop fighting”. Ouch.

It’s the little nod he gives right at the end that absolutely kills me dead. And even before that, the whole scene is so different from every other conversation they’ve had so far. There’s no argument, no back and forth, not even any kind of miscommunication. 

It’s the way Mangkorn is literally fading into the background.

Good thing there’s still the red thread of fate.

And it’s interesting how Mangkorn is shown approaching the cruel mirrored version of Yai to return it to him - like he’s breaking through his barriers.

Yai, through the power of instant flashback, understands immediately.

And I love how later, when he lashes out at his father and his father’s girlfriend, the camera lingers on their reactions even after Yai has already left. He’s literally blind to the hurt he’s causing in his own distress. He’s accusing his family of being cold without his mum, but of course it is. That’s what grief does. That’s what it turns into when it isn’t shared.

Because of course his father has already visited his late wive’s grave first thing in the morning. But what good is that to Yai when he’s never seen his father grieve? No wonder he thinks him cold.

And now it’s Mangkorn’s turn to wear green as he makes up his mind (good thing he’s told everyone about his love life - that certainly makes it easier to seek advice).

While Yai, surrounded by red, is allowed to heal:

And the red thread comes full circle.

And maybe I’ve cried for ten minutes straight after I’watched this scene.

Anyway.

Nine. You’ve talked about this. How is this brotherly? What are you even doing here?

Now it’s Hong’s turn to give advice (good thing Mangkorn has told everyone) and maybe she and Nadear won’t have to elope to the UK after all, like they did in the book (but Star Hunter, consider this: it’d be very cute), because looks like they’re going to tell the dads to get with the times. Oh, yes, and Mangkorn looks very pretty as he finally dares to choose:

Also, finally someone who’s not completely oblivious to their students talking loudly in class. NatureBL is healing.

The green jacket! The soft lighting! The red brick and green leaves! 

And I wonder how many times Mangkorn has daydreamed about this exact scenario🥺

I absolutely adore your colorful gifsets, like the derry girls one from today! do you have any tips on how you achieve that gorgeous color overlay? especially when the subjects move so much? key frames have only gotten me so far and with some of these wildly moving hands and legs you managed to exclude from the color overlay, that has me in awe.

I think maybe 3 of the individual gifs i was able to do with key frames--that's why my hand hurts so much today lmao. i know frame-by-frame colouring can be intimidating and time-consuming, but i'm a bit of a perfectionist and honestly, most of my coloured gifs are hand-coloured (curse these shows for giving us such beige backgrounds to work with, makes colour manipulation so difficult) so i've got a rhythm down and can get through them pretty quick (at least compared to when i started lmao)

one good thing with frame-by-frame tho, is that the more rapid the movement in the gif, the easier it actually is to hand-colour it, cause it's a lot more forgiving

oooo yes okay great question! so i guess my big ones are use of colour, i rarely make anything these days that isn't colourful in one way or another because i just have such fun doing colour manipulation. also, i absolutely adore blending, blending just makes a set special to me. there's something super special in pairing up scenes and it really brings a gif to life! it's something i adore in giffing myself because there is something so satisfying in pairing scenes together and when a blend works it's just magic. and if you can get a good shot that adds texture to the gif of even a triple blend i'm literally just 🤯

and if i have time for it, then i love making use of shapes and such to create 'multiple gifs in one' so to speak. one of my favourites lately is ripped paper (like this!) because i think it creates such a perfect contrast in one gif when you're making a set. i also adore geometric shapes in gifsets, i have a weakness for interlinking geometric shapes and i still think one of my fav sets i made was when i made shapes out of shapes (here) because there's something so satisfying about it. i have a very neat and organised brain i guess so the use of symmetrical patterns makes it happy!!!

i could probably go on because honestly i love all giffing effects because giffing is just so cool ok and people are so creative and amazing and wow with what they can do!!! but those are some of my faves so hopefully that will help ❤️
