Chapter 13: Trust
Federica had come back with the ambrosia and nectar by the time the girls had disentangled themselves from the rope and from each other. She was letting a dribble of nectar fall into Ludovica’s mouth, holding her head carefully.
Edwina was cleaning the blood of the unconscious girl’s temple. It wasn’t too bad, but it had been a nasty blow nonetheless.
Ludovica sat up a few seconds later, dizzy and babbling in Lombardo, from what Bianca could make out.
She kneeled next to her.
“Tranquilla, va bene. Stai ferma,” she whispered, putting a hand on the older girl’s shoulder.
Ludovica’s eyes, still dazzled, snapped towards Bianca.
“Maria,” she gasped, raising her hand to touch Bianca’s face.
“That’s Bianca, Ludi,” Edwina told her softly. She looked up and said in a louder voice: “Give her some space!”
Bianca was about to get up, but Ludovica grabbed her hand. She stayed like that, holding the wounded girl’s hand until the confusion cleared from her eyes.
“Scusami,” she said at last. “I thought– it doesn’t matter what I thought.”
On the contrary, Bianca wanted to argue. She was curious about that name. That memory she’d recalled when talking to Chris before she left the La Rues’ home. That had been her father, she was sure. He’d mentioned a Maria.
Was that her mother?
Did Ludovica know Bianca’s mother?
She had wondered if the girl had known her family, now she was almost sure. But how close had she been to Bianca’s mother? She’d mentioned she’d joined the Hunt after the Great War. Bianca wasn’t great with dates, but that was around 1920. How old had Bianca’s mother been then? Not too old.
Maybe around Bianca’s age?
Was that why Ludovica thought Bianca was Maria?
She wanted to scream out in frustration. She hated not remembering. She hated not even knowing what her mother had looked like. She didn’t even know why she didn’t have any memories of her childhood.
The Lotus Hotel had messed up with time, but were her memories all gone because of it too?
She wanted to cry, and sob, and pull her hair out until her immortal father came up from Hell to stop her, to answer her questions.
“Bianca?”
She jumped out of her thoughts.
Thalia had touched her arm, she was half-kneeling in front of Bianca, a look of worry in her pale face.
“Sorry,” Bianca offered.
Thalia shook her head. “You were lost in your thoughts.”
Bianca nodded.
“We have to leave,” Thalia said. “The girls have convinced the people on the bus that we’ve scared away the thieves.” She snorted. “I feel like some Old Western sheriff saying that. Anyway, better leave before we push the power of the Mist too far.”
Bianca looked to where Ludovica had been sitting.
She wasn’t there anymore.
It was only Bianca and Thalia, and empty nothingness around them all the way to the bus, at least fifty metres away, where the Hunters and the bus passengers were starting to board again.
The daughter of Zeus caught Bianca’s uneasy expression, her face turned sympathetic.
“It’s all right, I told them to go ahead,” she reassured her, her voice softer than Bianca had ever heard it. “It happens to me sometimes… I get lost in memories. It makes me lose track of time.”
Thalia got up and offered Bianca a hand, which she took gratefully.
“Is Ludovica all right?” Bianca asked.
“Yeah, she’s fine,” Thalia said. “She’s got a thick skull.” She appeared to be debating something in her mind. “Why did she call you Maria? Is that what upset you?”
Bianca shrugged. “I don’t know.”
Thalia gave her a funny look.
“I mean, I don’t know why she called me that,” Bianca clarified. “It didn’t upset me. I just–” She sighed. “I still don’t remember much.”
“Maybe you’ve got another sibling somewhere,” Thalia suggested. She didn’t sound too sure. Bianca imagined if two demigod siblings of the same godly parent were a lot, three was unheard of. “Or she knew somebody you reminded her of.”
Bianca wondered whether she should be honest. She was still wary about telling Thalia the truth about her father. That would certainly change the way she saw Bianca. But the daughter of Zeus had been nothing short of kind to her from the moment they went to get her from Clarisse’s house. Hell, she’d even agreed to go to New York to find clues about her missing brother.
“I think she might have known my family,” Bianca told Thalia. “I think Maria was my mother’s name.”
“Maria di Angelo?”
Bianca nodded.
“If you want, we could try to find out more about her,” Thalia said. “There might be records, if she migrated here during FDR’s government.”
“Do you really believe so?”
“Why not?” Thalia ran a hand through her hair. “Most of it must’ve been digitised at some point. But if not, we could ask around in DC, if we’re ever there. That’s where you said you’d lived when you got here, right?”
“Yes, I’m sure of that,” Bianca said. “Thank you.”
“No problem.”  Thalia gave her a smile. “We look after each other here, whatever you need just ask, okay?”
Bianca nodded. “Okay.”
By the time they got to the bus, there were only a few people left to board again.
The mortals had all chosen seats close to the door, and were eyeing them with reluctant respect, or perhaps plain wariness.
From what Bianca heard murmured around, one of the Hunters had used that Mist trick Thalia could do —and Percy had unsuccessfully attempted— to convince the passengers that they were a group of students from a school specialising in martial arts and self-defence.
It wasn’t the strongest story she’d ever heard, and frankly, she wasn’t sure how well taekwondo would work against armed men in a motorway robbery. But the mortals were relatively on board with the theory, so she hoped they wouldn’t be calling the authorities on them. --------------------------------------------------------
Although she tried her best to control the speed of her heart, Bianca’s heartbeat didn’t manage to slow down in the ten hours it took to get to Denver.
Her mind was in turmoil, and at times, she felt as if she couldn’t breathe.
She wanted to ask Ludovica about Maria di Angelo. She wanted to tell Thalia about her father. She wanted to go to Chicago, where supposedly they’d get a safe way to get to New York. She wanted to already be in New York, so she could ask Percy Jackson what the absolute hell had happened with her brother. She wanted this stupid bus ride to be over because she was starting to feel nauseous.
At one point, she considered asking Ludovica right there, too tired to care if the rest listened to their conversation, but Ludi was asleep, and Bianca didn’t have it in her to wake her up after her injury.
“You’re looking well,” said Thalia when they were getting out of the bus into the station in Denver. “Very well-rested. So relaxed!”
Bianca huffed.
“Don’t worry.” Thalia gave her a dry smile. “We’re resting here for a bit. I don’t think long bus journeys are good for us. Half of the girls get queasy, and I attract too many monsters.”
That made Bianca curious. They were staying here somewhere?
She couldn’t ask, though, there were more people leaving the bus and she was clogging the door.
Once they were all off the bus, Thalia led them outside. She found a corner with little traffic and stood in front of the group.
The afternoon sun, not too golden yet, was behind her, giving her a halo that made her look ethereal.
“All right, ladies,” she announced. “I know many of you have repudiated my choice of transport.” She looked at Greta —Bianca saw the girl looked a bit green—. “I didn’t know so many of you hadn’t travelled much by bus before. But anyway,” Thalia added after a pause. “I have made an even more polemic decision: we’ll be staying at a demigod’s house tonight.”
The group broke into murmurs. Some relieved, some mistrustful. It seemed this wasn’t the first time one of Thalia’s choices was considered polemic.
“Boy or girl?” Asked one of the girls.
“Boy, but his sister’s going to be there,” Thalia explained. Some of the girls could be heard complaining. “Quit whining and move on, let’s not keep Malcolm Pace and Annabeth Chase waiting!”
She turned and began walking down the street.
“Can we trust Annabeth Chase so much?” Wondered Helena in a low voice to the girl next to her as the Hunters went after their leader. “I know she and Thalia were friends but…”
Bianca didn’t hear the rest of Helena’s argument. She had nothing against Annabeth. The girl had been brave when she’d fought the manticore; she’d —more or less— sacrificed herself for Nico and her.
“You need to tell Thalia before we get to the house.”
Bianca was startled. Ludovica had appeared by her shoulder while she was listening to Helena.
“Tell her?” She asked, but she knew what Ludovica meant. She was glad the older girl was talking in Italian, she didn’t doubt more than one of the Hunters could speak it, but it made them less likely to be eavesdropped on.
“Annabeth Chase idolises Thalia,” Ludovica said. “Whatever she may know, or suspect, she’ll tell her.”
“Clarisse told me she and Percy were the last to see Nico,” Bianca admitted. “Do you think they know about my father?”
Ludovica shrugged. “Children of Athena are clever. If she doesn’t know she might have guessed. It all depends on whether your brother showed his powers somehow.”
“Better not risk it, do you think?” Bianca asked. “Would Annabeth really tell Thalia something like that?”
Ludovica offered her a tense smile. “There’s only been two children of the Big Three gods ever since the war, decades ago. It’s hot gossip, why would Annabeth keep that to herself when your existence could mean a threat?”
Why do you? Bianca wanted to ask. But it wasn’t the right moment. She needed to have a proper chat with Ludi if she wanted answers.
“You think she doesn’t trust me?” Bianca wondered instead. Annabeth hadn’t spoken two words to her, she’d have no reason to suspect anything.
“I don’t know enough about her, but it would make sense for her to be wary of powerful demigods,” Ludovica explained. “Besides, Thalia values her opinion.”
“You think she could make Thalia mistrust me?” Bianca was shocked. She’d got the impression Thalia was okay with her. “But I’ve done nothing to her!”
“I’ve seen how her father deals with people who might become threats.” Ludovica had a nasty look on her face, clearly recalling some bad memories.
Bianca had no idea what Ludovica was talking about. She had no idea how Zeus dealt with threats, proper or potential ones, but it felt unfair to judge Thalia by his actions.
“She’s not her father,” she said. “I can’t judge her by what he’s done —whatever that is— and then expect her to be okay with my father after what he’s done to her!”
Ludovica tilted her head. “Right, you don’t know—”
But what exactly Bianca didn’t know would have to be added to the growing list of things she had to ask Ludovica whenever she could sit down properly, because at that moment Thalia decided to join their little chat.
For one terrible, awkward second, Bianca thought she’d heard the whole conversation, and was coming over to embarrass them by yelling at them in front of the rest of the Hunters.
Then she remembered Thalia didn’t speak Italian.
“You look upset,” she told Bianca. “Has Ludi been scaring you about the evils of demigod boys?”
“Hardly,” Bianca dismissed the idea with a hand gesture. “I mean, I’ve a brother, I know what boys are.”
Thalia snorted. “Malcolm’s okay. He’s Annabeth’s older brother. Besides, it’ll be good for you to meet her properly.”
“She did jump off a cliff trying to kill a monster for my brother and I,” Bianca said. “I should get her a thank you gift.”
“I guess she’ll accept you being nice to Malcolm as a token of your gratitude,” Thalia suggested. “Many of the girls won’t be too happy to be around him.”
Bianca acknowledged that with a nod. “I don’t remember him from camp.”
“He’s not a year-rounder,” Thalia told her. “You haven’t met him, yet. He’s all right, though, he looked after Annabeth when— For a while, anyway.” She raised her voice for the rest of the Hunters to hear her. “We’ll be there in ten minutes!”
Bianca took a deep breath.
“You look upset again,” Thalia noted. “For real, is something the matter?”
Her worry was genuine, and Bianca hated that there was a big possibility of Thalia hating her when she found out the truth.
“I have to tell you something.”

Charlie è obeso e infelice come Fede. Il dolore di Fede è ben racchiuso in alcune significative…

How This Trump-Endorsed Sheriff Went From ‘Vegas Strong’ to Just Wrong
Steve Marcus A prophetic protector has become a political panderer. Back in December 2016, Sheriff Joe Lombardo of Clark County, Nevada, called for restrictions on high-capacity gun magazines. “I’m a very avid hunter, I was in the military myself, and there’s no need to have a high-capacity magazine for any practical reason,” Lombardo told the Las Vegas Sun. 32 Players Book Their Spots In The KO Rounds In A Roller Coaster First Day In Doha
Tumblr media
By Ted Lerner WPA Media Officer Photo Credits WPA
(Doha, Qatar)–If the first day’s play of the 2019 World 9-ball Championship is any indication–and by all measures it certainly is just that–then fans around the world better be prepared for a wild roller coaster ride over the next three days.  Drama, upsets, nerves, revelations, suprises, excitement and downright brilliant 9-ball at the highest levels were all on display as play commenced in the 28th running of pool’s premier crown. And with a loaded field just getting warmed up, it’s only going to get better leading to the final on Tuesday.
With 64 matches played on 16 tables at the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation in Doha, Day 1 saw 32 players book their spots in the final 64 knockout stage which begins Sunday.  None of the 96 players have yet to see the exits, but there were plenty of upsets, near upsets, and upstarts making their mark on pool’s biggest stage.
The top 32 seeds were given a bye in the first round of their groups, so these players only had to win one match to reach the single elimination knockout rounds.  Defending champion Joshua Filler of Germany did just that, but not before a shaky start which saw him tied at 4-4 in the race to 9 alternate break match against Qatari veteran Bashar Hussain. The World number one was never in trouble, though, and cruised to a 9-5 win.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2017 champion and runner up last year Carlo Biado of the Philippines didn’t fair as well as he got dumped over to the one loss side of his group with a shocking 9-3 loss to Chile’s Enrique Rojas. It was Rojas’ second straight victory of the day, the first coming over Kuwait’s Abdullah Alyusef. Rojas now books his well deserved spot in the Final 64 tomorrow.
The USA’s Shane Van Boening is one of the favorites here this week, but he looked a bit cold early on in his match with young talented Chinese player Xu Xiaocong. Xu is part of a large crop coming from China’s youth movement and he had the American down three quarters of the way through their match.  But SVB pulled it together at the last minute and squeaked by the Chinese, 9-8. Xu will get one more chance on Sunday.
Fellow American and Mosconi teammate Billy Thorpe also booked his spot in the final 64 with a 9-5 win over Canada’s Stephen Holem.
It was a solid day for team Taiwan. World 10-ball Champion Ko Ping Chung went up against Myamar’s rising star Phone Myint Kyaw, who also goes by the moniker, Muang Muang. Kyaw is a player that pool fans will want to pay attention to. He’s a former snooker player who has been winning regularly on the brutally tough Chinese 8-ball circuit, and he just grabbed two gold medals in the Southeast Asian games in Manila.  His stroke is one of the most solid in the game and anyone who watches him play instantly can see the potential in this young man.
But of course, Ko is a young prodigy who has already proven his metal in American pool with his recent win at the World 10-ball in July in Vegas.  Little Ko didn’t have much trouble with Muang Muang, winning handily, 9-4.
Little Ko will join his older brother Pin Yi in the final 64, who defeated the always stingy Jalal Al Sarisi of Venezuela, 9-4.  Other Taiwanese cruising into the final 64 include Chang Jung Lin, Chang Yu Lung, and Kevin Cheng.
The Philippines is surprisingly unrepresented in Doha this year with only four players in the field. With Biado losing early it was up to Johann Chua and Jeffrey Ingacio to save the day for the Pinoys. Both looked the goods and nabbed spots in the final 64.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a mixed bag for the European Mosconio Cup team. Greece’s Alexander Kazakis is one of Europe’s top bets here this week and he qualified for the knockout round with an easy 9-5 win over Qatar’s Waleed Majid.  But Albania’s Eklent Kaci and former World 9-ball Champion Niels Feijen of the Netherlands weren’t so fortunate. Kaci lost big to the Netherlands’ Ivar Saris, who had earlier looked solid in a 9-6 win over Poland’s Karol Skowerski. Feijen went down to upstart Hong Konger Yip Kin Ling, 9-7, who took his spot in the Final 64 with his second  win of the day.
The surprises kept coming throughout the day. Lithuania’s Pijus Labutis first squeaked by Peru’s Gerson Martinez, 9-8. Then he took on former World 9-ball Champion Wu Jiaqing, and shocked the Chinese great with a 9-7 upset, and a spot in the knockout rounds.
Also booking a spot in the final 64 was Canada’s John Morra, who continued his return to fine form with a 9-8 win over Poland’s Mateusz Sniegocki. Singapore’s Aloysius Yapp showed that he’s clearly a dark horse to watch here in Doha with a 9-4 drubbing of China’s talented Dang Jinhu.  England’s Chris Melling came back from 6-2 down to defeat Vietnam’s Do The Kien, 9-7. Also advancing today were Japan’s Naoyuki Oi, Austria’s Max Lechner, China’s Lui Haitao, Estonia’s Dennis Grabe, Finland’s Petri Makkonen, Germany’s Ralf Souquet,  and Spaniards David Alcaide and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz.
Play on day 2 on Sunday, Dec. 14th will begin at 10am Doha time(GMT +3). The field will be whittled down to 64 players playing single elimination knockout race to 11.  The round of 64 will be completed in the first two session, and by the end of the day, the field will be down to the final 32.
The winner of the 2019 World 9-ball Championship will receive $30,000. The total prize fund is $150,00.
*The 2019 WPA World 9-ball Championship takes place at the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation in Doha, Qatar from December 10-17, 2019. The event is hosted by The Qatar Billiard and Snooker Federation(QBSF), and is sanctioned by the World Pool Billiard Association, the governing body of the sport of pool.
Fans around the world will be able to view live scoring, results, brackets and live streaming of many of the matches via the QBSF’s free live streaming platform at esnooker.pl.  Multiple tables will be available to view online at no charge to the public.

Tokyo Rose is a hard-rocking five-piece band 80/90's from upstate New York comprised of singer, Jeff Axelson; guitarist, Keith Medley; keyboard player, Kirk Lombardo: bassist, Eli Tederous, and drummer, Tim Edborg. Featuring a lead singer who sounds like Robert Plant and a guitarist who shreds like Brian May, the band rocked festivals on the east coast everywhere they played. The two albums they recorded for labels were never released, they describe their music as "good, solid, radio rock".
ForceField Studios are releasing "Is There Anybody Out There" by Tokyo Rose. This high-voltage track was produced and engineered by Grammy Award winner, Rob "Wacko" Hunter, formerly the drummer for the famed English Metal Band, 'Raven' who were part of the boom of New Wave British Heavy Metal.

Ko Wins Thriller Over Filler, Crowned Predator World 10-Ball Champion

By Keith Paradise CSI Media Staff Writer
Four years ago, a 19-year-old Ping-Chung Ko was eliminated in the semifinals of the World Pool and Billiards Association’s World 10-Ball Championship and watched from stands as his older brother, Pin-Yi Ko, claimed the tile over Carlo Biado.
“I was happy for my brother, but I think if I would have been the winner that may have been better,” the younger Ko said with a laugh through a translator.
The roles were reversed Friday night, as the younger Ko used a combination of brilliant shot-making and some late match mistakes by opponent Joshua Filler to claim the Predator World 10-ball Championship at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino. The win is the first major victory for Ko, who has come close in big events in recent years but hasn’t been able to close out until this week in Las Vegas. Last year, Ko finished second at the International 9-Ball Open and had top-10 finishes at the China Open and World 9-Ball Championship.

“The last couple of years, Joshua has played really well and I just wanted to challenge him,” Ko said. “I didn’t know if I could beat him but I just wanted to try my best.”
Filler jumped out to an early 3-1 advantage in the finals, using two breaks and runs and a dry break from Ko. After the two players traded breaks and runs in the next two games, and Ko took a restroom break immediately following Filler’s pocketing of the 10-ball. The elder Ko followed along with his little brother, more to be there as a security blanket than to coach or offer advice.
“He didn’t really say anything to me,’ said Ping-Chung Ko. “Just having him walk with me relaxed me.”
The timeout paid dividends for Ko, who used missed shots by his opponent in the seventh and ninth racks to pull to within 5-4. Momentum really shifted in Ko’s favor in the crucial 10th game. Without a clear shot on the 1-ball, the German attempted a safety and left a long open shot instead. Ko pocketed the ball and ran out the rack to tie the score, then mixed in a break-and-run to take the lead. Filler tied the score at six each and had an opportunity to regain the lead in the 11th game when Ko misplayed a safety on the 5-ball, but couldn’t capitalize – missing a somewhat routine combination shot on the 9 and 10 balls.
“Both matches today, I played pretty solid at the start of the match but I couldn’t get a good lead,” Filler said. “I didn’t have a chance to get three games ahead. Then I missed some balls.”
Ko was clutch in the closing stages, executing a sharp cut on the 3-ball and bank on the 4-ball to run out the 15th game and regain the lead, 8-7. When Filler broke dry in the next game, Ko used a challenging one-rail kick shot to pocket the 3-ball and run out the rack and climb onto the hill, 9-7.
Needing one more win for the championship, Ko broke in the 18th game and authoritatively banked the 1-ball into the side pocket – as Filler sat in his chair simply nodding in appreciation.
“That’s really when I felt like I could win this,” he said.
As he stroked his way through the final balls, a packed crowd sensed the victory – including a dozen family and fans who had traveled from Chinese Taipei. After landing the 5-ball and sending the cue ball two rails down table for the game winning 9 and 10 balls, the elder Ko let out a sigh of relief.
“I was nervous until he made the last two balls,” he said.
Filler was plagued with mistakes throughout the day. He reached the finals by surviving a handful of uncharacteristic unforced errors throughout the match, defeating the elder Ko, 10-8.
The reigning WPA World 9-ball champion looked like he could be giving the assembled crowd an early dismissal, jumping out to a 3-0 lead on the strength of three victorious safety exchanges. Filler was cruising through the fourth rack as well but missed a makeable cross-side bank shot on the 3-ball into the side pocket. Ko took full advantage, clearing the table and adding three breaks and runs in route to winning five of the next six games to capture the lead, 5-4. Filler broke and ran out in the 10th game, tying the score at five apiece before the two competitors took a brief intermission.
Everything that went right with Ko’s break before the intermission was nowhere to be found in the second half – failing to pocket a ball off of the opening shot three times. After Ko inched ahead once more time, 6-5, after a victorious safety exchange, Filler broke and ran twice and took advantage of back-to-back dry breaks from his opponent to charge ahead, 9-6.
“I was criticizing and questioning myself, and that’s why I didn’t do well on the breaks,” Ko said through his translator.
The German appeared positioned to run out the 16th game and advance to the finals but missed position on the 5-ball. Filler again had a chance to close out the match in the next rack when Ko again failed to pocket a ball on the break, but missed the 2-ball in back-to-back opportunities.
“Overall, I think it was just a bad day for me,” Filler said.
Filler initiated a safety exchange when he didn’t have a clear shot at the 1-ball after his break in the 18th game. He found an opening after Ko left the 1-ball visible down at the opposite end of the table from the cue ball. The German pocketed the ball and meticulously worked his way through the rack to earn a spot in the evening’s finals. Filler’s go-to move after pocketing the game-winner in a final round is to yell and pump his fist. Not this time, as he collapsed onto the table in relief instead.
“I wasn’t very lucky. Every time that Filler missed, I didn’t have a good position to shoot,” Ko said.
Although he’d been eliminated, baby brother Ping-Chung Ko still had an opportunity to keep the family alive with a victory in the next semifinal match against Masato Yoshioka of Japan.
“The only words I have for my brother is, ‘release your pressure,’” Ko said. “I don’t want to see him under any pressure.”
If the young Ko was feeling any kind of pressure, he certainly didn’t show it at the table. Using stifling safety play as well as pinpoint accuracy when an open shot was available, Ko won five of the first seven racks of the game and cruised to an easy 10-3 victory.
After Yoshiota claimed the first game of the match, Ko took advantage of a foul, scratch and a victorious safety battle to build a 4-1 advantage. His Japanese counterpart, who was the last remaining player in the event who qualified by winning a regional qualifier tournament, tacked on a break-and-run and took advantage of a Ko scratch to narrow the deficit to 5-3. However, Ko continued to hit the gas pedal – breaking and running in the ninth and 11th racks as he won the last five games of the match.
“My main objective was to just get the experience internationally, but when I got to the semifinals, I felt a lot of pressure. That’s why I didn’t play in a way that I want to play,” Yoshiota said.
