"Y/N is on her way here to spend the day with us", Charles reminded his family as they tidied the table from breakfast. He messaged you when you posted an Instagram story of the beach view from the room you were staying in Ibiza, asking if the meet up he proposed in Hungary was still up, the two of you finding a day to get together after your friend had gone home and before you left for Maranello. "So we're finally meeting the Y/N you're always talking about, I feel like I know her already", and Charles rolled his eyes at his brother Lorenzo's antics, "It's true, it's always Y/N this, Y/N that, oh Y/N likes that ice cream flavour too, and I stopped listening to you talk about her a long time ago", he finished as he headed upstairs, and Charles was about to bite back with a reply when he heard the doorbell, heading there to open to, he assumed, let you in.

You parked the rental car in front of the house Charles had sent you the address for, checking the door number on the message before ringing in, hearing footsteps on the garden path before Charles opened the small gate, "Hi Y/N, glad you could join us", he greeted with a kiss on each of your cheeks, "Hey Charles, thank you for the invite once again", you smiled as he stretched his arm so you entered the property, excusing yourself in through the open front door and taking in the house before Arthur's footsteps down the stairs caught her attention, making her turn her body to see the younger driver, "here's my favourite engineer, it's a shame Ferrari swooped you from the academy", Arthur said as he greeted you the same way his brother did. "You two know eachother?", Charles asked, the confusion clear by his expression, "I filled in for Prema Racing when one of their engineers was unable to attend for two races", you explained, "you're not the first Leclerc I'm ordering around", you giggled as Charles took the information in, "you never mentioned it when I talked about her", Charles said, and despite feeling like he might have outed himself, Arthur smirking as he saw his brother put his foot on his mouth, he simply shrugged, "there are many Y/N in the world, how could I know?", he teased as you walked into the outside area, "And here's another person who has ordered Leclercs about for a while, Y/N, this is my mother Pascale, mum, this is Y/N". "Hello, it's so nice to meet you. Thank you for welcoming me here", you said as she greeted you with a tight hug, "hi dear, it's so nice having you here, I'm the one who's glad you could join us. If you ever need tips on making them listen to you just let me know", she winked, "Charles isn't the problem, it's the other men that usually don't listen to what I say", you replied as you watched her head to the big window that led into the kitchen, "Can I offer you anything from the kitchen, darling? Maybe a drink...?". Taking the box from your tote bag, you explained its content "I'm good thank you! When my friend was here, we went to this shop that had these cakes with cookie ice cream in them and I thought I'd bring some for you", you offered as Pascale went to grab the box, thanking you before heading inside to place it in the fridge, "I told you you didn't need to bring anything", he said, "like I ever listen to you", you teased, "You really should, I have some great ideas and things to say", he said before his older brother made his presence known as he laughed, "you really don't sell yourself short, not at all. Hi, I'm Lorenzo, the older brother", he said as he greeted you.

You placed your tote bag on one of the sunloungers like Charles told you to before he grabbed a some beach rackets, "care to join us for a game? I promise we will go easy on you", he smiled as you stuck your tongue out at him, leaving your sandals as the four of you headed to the large grass area.

Lorenzo teamed up with Arthur while you and Charles made the other team as the net delimited the area for each pair. When Charles said they were very competitive between them, you'd never think it was like this. The balls were hit with great force, given that you were playing with athletes, but you dealt with athletes since you joined race early on, you knew competitiveness at a high level but this was beyond that, every now and again hearing muttered brotherly offenses between the brothers whenever one of them scored a point, Arthur and Lorenzo (only?) glaring at you when you scored the points as Charles highfived you. After playing for hours, you and Charles managed to win two out of the three games they had set to play after the first one ended with a one point difference between the duos, Charles hugging you while he lifted your body off the floor, "put me down", you squealed as he finally complied, "See? I know how to order you about", and little did you know he would probably do anything you asked him to if it meant you kept that beautiful smile that was now on your face forever.

"How about a swim now? I could use it to cool off", Lorenzo suggested as you grabbed the rackets and a ball to place them back in their bag that was next to the sunlounger you had placed your things on, seeing Pascale removing a cover up she was wearing so that she could join, "Why do I have the feeling that if I wasn't playing with them that would've been much uglier?", you said to her as you saw Arthur purposely throwing a ball he found at Charles and then pretending it was unintentional, "Oh definitely, yesterday Charles lost and he didn't speak to them for an hour, they take these games very seriously!", she chuckled as she made her way to get in the water. You rummaged your bag for a little pouch you had brought, reapplying the sun protection lotion on your face, Charles snickering at your white face, "what? At least I know how to behave in the sun and, as much as I like to work for Ferrari, I don't need to sport their colours all the time", you teased back as you rubbed the product in, checking your reflection in the window to see if you had done it properly, you hands moving to the button of your shorts so you could undo it and get ready to join the guys in the water, taking your flowy top off too.

You looked really good, Charles' eyes scanning your body as you folded your clothes neatly on the end of the lounger, the dark forest green of your swimsuit hugging your body complimenting your gorgeous figure, making the Formula 1 driver gulp, his brothers noticing his reaction and chuckling, the snickering between them going unnoticed by their middle brother as he watched your strong legs strut their wait into the steps, "Anyone seeing you would think you work for Aston Martin instead", he somehow broke the transe he was in, not wanting you to feel uncomfortable from his stare, "Seb is a good man, after all he was the one to teach me where the good coffee was at Maranello", you said and Charles looked at you, "Seb too? Really?", he mused, "I have been working in Ferrari longer than you have, I know many many people", you said once you submerged your head to wet your hair for a much needed dip, coming back up and smiling back at Charles as he shook his head. You were going to be the death of him, that much he was sure.

You were helping Pascale finish setting the table when Lorenzo handed you a tray with the bowl with the meat for the grill, "Can you bring this to Charles, please? And maybe stay in there with him and make sure he doesn't let it burn, we have everything under control here and you're our guest, too", he smiled as you excused yourself and made your way to a shirtless Charles that was lighting the fire in the grill, "the meat is here", you said simply as you watched him, "Shouldn't you put a t-shirt on? You could hurt yourself", you expressed your worry, not that you wanted him to cover his beautiful and well shaped torso, but safety came first. Smiling at you, "I think I can handle it", he said as he managed to get the fire to last for a little bit before it started to die down, "wait, there's salt here, let me just", you said grabbing the bowl from the tray and taking a bit on your hand before throwing it in the wood sticks, the flames livening up again, "You're a do it all, aren't you?", he smiled as he poked at the embers a bit, "in my case, you have to learn how to do it otherwise people will treat you like a child and assume you're a fluke, unfortunately", you reasoned while looking at what he was doing, not wanting to look at his face after you blurted that without thinking much first, but he picked up on it. Grabbing the the tongs to place the meat on the grill, "How come?", he wondered simply, "when you're the only woman in the middle of men, it can get quite intimidating until you find your ground and learn to stomp your foot. They're always assuming I need to be helped and that's the only way I'll get anywhere. And I haven't. I got into Ferrari with my hard work, my own blood, swear and tears, and I pushed through everything and every occupation to be able to become a strategist", you explained, the outskirts of what you had read after the Hungary GP about your position on the team taking a toll on you. You could only handle so much.

Checking the meat, Charles turned to you, tapping your arm so you could look at him, "I have been in the business for a good time too, and maybe you know a lot of people too", he tried to bring a smile to your face, succeeding as your lips curved upwards, "but trust me when I say that I never thought less of you because you're a woman, I actually think you fit really nicely in the team and there have been so many improvements that were all your doing", he said, the genuineness in his voice making the words sink into you easily, the butterflies on your belly dancing a melody of their own. "Thank you, that means a lot coming from you", you nudged his side, wanting nothing more than to hug him but refraining from doing so as you were still tiptoeing around your feelings for him, sometimes feeling like they were reciprocated but the nagging option of it affecting your job still present on your thoughts.

Pascale was looking at you as she placed the drinks on the table, noticing how her son's body language showed some hesitation to touch you and how you nudged him, seeming to want more out of it before resuming to laughing along to something Charles said, the smile on his face bigger than ever, "those two are taking their sweet time admiting what we all know", Lorenzo mentioned, Arthur humming in agreement as he placed the bread basket on the table.

"But why did it happen like that? That's my only question", your assertive tone was heard in the room, not rasing your voice to be heard as you knew that it was not how things worked out for the best, "we win as a team and loose as a team, we fail and conquer together. We all know that what happened out there today was not what we work for. Carlos deserves more. Charles deserves more. Ferrari deserves more. Tifosi deserve more. So much more. So I think we should really think about what we need to do to make it better. I've expressed my concerns and ideas and I hope you, too, think about it and bring them to the next meeting", you finished your intervention in the debrief meeting.

After a mixed feelings Dutch GP for the team, positive since Charles had managed to get on the podium but negative about the way things were handled for Carlos, everyone was quiet as they tidied things around the garage once you left that tense debrief, heading to the hospitality's balcony to get some fresh air and gather your thoughts. Hearing footsteps, you look over to see both Ferrari drivers, "Hey Y/N", Carlos said, "Hey guys", you replied, "Again, sorry we couldn't do anymore", you honestly said, upset at how the afternoon turned out despite a slight happiness that Charles was back on the podium, even though not in the spot you knew he wanted to be. "The guys, they were showing us the recording you have from what you discuss in the pitwall. And thank you", Carlos said looking at you and seeing in your eyes that you knew what he meant. When you noticed the rear tyre missing, you were pissed off, looking at the situation with your fingers rubbing circles on your head, the words just coming out of you as you defended Carlos and talked to his side of the pitwall, no one being able to tend to your questions and back to the pit stop area, groaning as you looked at that mess, your mumbled words after he managed to finally go caught by the system showing just how disappointed and frustrated you were about the decisions that were made, "Isa is downstairs, so I'll get going. See you guys later", the spanish driver said as he waved goodbye. Sitting next to you, Charles noticed your clear distress, "you're not the only person making the decisions, you shouldn't be taking all of this on your shoulders", he said, despite he himself feeling all the emotions about his own race, "fuck, this is just so hard, week after week, as you guys must feel it even worse, that we're failing you", you let out, taking Charles' honest silence as an (rightfully so) agreement, "we have Monza next week, and I'm going to make sure everyone in this garage knows what they're doing, I promise you", you said as Charles grabbed your hand in his as he squeezed them together, wanting to share some of your hope and resilience.

Monza really was a whole different atmosphere, the fans that gathered making it an unique race. You were putting on your yellow t-shirt for the celebration weekend when you noticed both drivers in their new suits that matched everyone else's tops, "you guys really look like minions, people on the Internet are right this time. I'm sorry, but that's the first thing I thought of", you said, "But we are handsome minions", Carlos said, noticing your eyes checking Charles out, "the handsomest", you replied, your eyes kept on the monégasque's face before you excused yourself and let them recover between the free practice sessions, Carlos speaking up as soon as you were out of earshot, "Honestly mate, if you don't make a move on her, I will make it for you. You guys are so into eachother it's actually insane", before he sipped on his water, Charles' eyes following you was you moved some pieces around.

Qualifying always got your nerves going, already being known in the paddock by how you could never sit for long during the three sessions, "Do you think we can get them both on the podium today?", Xavi said while you looked at the data, the beggining of Q3 approaching, "at this point I feel like if we can, Max is quick but maybe Charles could have an advantage, because looking here", you said as you pointed to some graphs and the notes you had scribbled down.

When Charles and Carlos were in the first two spots, you started feeling hopeful that, despite still having to work with penalties for the race the next day, the pace seemed to be there, your heart thumping on your chest as you tapped your foot nervously as Charles' data improved after the warm up lap, and when Xavi yelled "And P1!" into the radio, you did your happy dance, not having a care in the world about what others thought as you watched the Tifosi erupt in cheer.

Team dinner was going really well, everyone happy with how the day had gone and feeling hopeful for the race as they dug into their plates, the nights chill still not bringing the mood down. When nearly everyone decided to go inside for a liquor the owner of the restaurant offered, only Charles, Carlos, Isa, Xavi and you stayed behind, speaking until Isa noticed how you and Charles weren't particularly interested in whatever they were talking about and started having a conversation of your own, "I need to get something from the counter, amor, can you come with me?", she asked as her foot nudged Xavi's, the two men getting the hint as they left the table, you and Charles carrying on your conversation until one of your favourite songs rang through the outside speakers, "C'mon", you said, getting up, "dance with me, we need to celebrate today", you explained as you pulled Charles by his arm, your hand holding his as he spun you around, the both of you giggling like mad until Charles thought this was it, under the italian starry sky on an empty patio, his hand cupping your cheek as his forehead touched yours "tell me to stop and i'll stop, I promise", he whispered as his eyes flickered between your lips and eyes, your mouth pressing on his taking him by surprise for a second before he responded the affections, his other hand cupping your other cheek as your hands grabbed each of his wrists. Interrupting the kiss for air, Charles giggled as you hid your face in his neck, your lashes tickling him as his arms circled your waist, "it's going to be hard, but I promise, if you'll allow me, that I'll protect you and support your decisions at the same time. You are my equal, my partner and my teammate, and I want to navigate these feeling with you", he whispered in your ear as if he was telling you his deepest secret. Looking up at him, you smiled, "I want that too" before his lips latched on yours again, dancing together as the newfound addiction seeming hard to suppress.

Heather Cox Richardson is a US based political historian, who connects facts from our history to current events to provide context. She writes daily on Substack, this is an excerpt from her March 17 post. It’s a longer read but very crucial toward understanding the American right’s plans for the future of this country, as illustrated by the close connections of The Heritage Foundation, a powerful right wing think tank, and Viktor Orbán, the autocratic prime minister of Hungary. 

“The tight cooperation between Heritage and Orbán illuminates Project 2025, the plan Heritage has led, along with dozens of other right-wing organizations, to map out a future right-wing presidency. In Hungary, Orbán has undermined democracy, gutting the civil service and filling it with loyalists; attacking immigrants, women, and the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals; taking over businesses for friends and family, and moving the country away from the rules-based international order supported by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

In the January interview, Roberts told Garcia-Navarro that Project 2025 was designed to jump-start a right-wing takeover of the government. “[T]he Trump administration, with the best of intentions, simply got a slow start,” Roberts said. “And Heritage and our allies in Project 2025 believe that must never be repeated.”

Project 2025 stands on four principles that it says the country must embrace. In their vision, the U.S. must “[r]estore the family as the centerpiece of American life and protect our children”; “[d]ismantle the administrative state and return self-governance to the American people”; “[d]efend our nation’s sovereignty, borders, and bounty against global threats”; and “[s]ecure our God-given individual rights to live freely—what our Constitution calls ‘the Blessings of Liberty.’”

In almost 1,000 pages, the document explains what these policies mean for ordinary Americans. Restoring the family and protecting children means making “family authority, formation, and cohesion” a top priority and using “government power…to restore the American family.” That, the document says, means eliminating any words associated with sexual orientation or gender identity, gender, abortion, reproductive health, or reproductive rights from any government rule, regulation, or law. Any reference to transgenderism is “pornography” and must be banned.

The overturning of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision recognizing the right to abortion must be gratefully celebrated, the document says, but the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision accomplishing that end “is just the beginning.””

Allies of Hungary’s far-right prime minister Viktor Orbán will hold a closed-door meeting with Republicans in Washington to push for an end to US military support for Ukraine, the Guardian has learned.

Members of the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs and staff from the Hungarian embassy in Washington will on Monday begin a two-day event hosted by the conservative Heritage Foundation thinktank.

The first day includes panel speeches about the Ukraine war as well as topics such as Transatlantic Culture Wars. It is expected to feature guests including Magor Ernyei, the international director of the Centre for Fundamental Rights, the institute that organized CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) Hungary. Kelley Currie, a former ambassador under then president Donald Trump, said she was invited “but declined”.

According to a Republican source, some of the attendees, including Republican members of Congress, have been invited to join closed-door talks the next day.

The meeting will take place against a backdrop of tense debate in Washington over Ukraine’s future. Last week the White House warned that, without congressional action, money to buy more weapons and equipment for Kyiv will run out by the end of the year. On Wednesday Senate Republicans blocked an emergency spending bill to fund the war in Ukraine.

A diplomatic source close to the Hungarian embassy said: “Orbán is confident that the Ukraine aid will not pass in Congress. That is why he is trying to block assistance from the EU as well.”

Orbán is a frequent critic of aid to help Ukraine against the Russian invasion. Seen as Vladimir Putin’s closest ally inside the EU for the past few years, he was photographed smiling and shaking hands with the Russian president two months ago in Beijing.

Orbán recently demanded that Ukraine’s European Union (EU) membership be taken off the European Council’s agenda in December. The Hungarian leader posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter: “It is clear that the proposal of the European Commission on Ukraine’s EU accession is unfounded and poorly prepared.”

The Heritage Foundation is leading Project 2025, a coalition preparing for the next conservative presidential administration, and has in recent months hosted speeches by leading British Conservative party members Liz Truss and Iain Duncan Smith.

The thinktank has also been a vocal opponent of US assistance to Ukraine. Last year Jessica Anderson, the executive director of its lobbying operation, released a statement under the headline: “Ukraine Aid Package Puts America Last.” In August, Victoria Coates, Heritage’s vice-president, posted on social media: “It’s time to end the blank, undated checks for Ukraine.”

When Heritage celebrated its 50th anniversary last April, Orbán’s political director, Balázs Orbán (no relation), was invited as a speaker for the event. Heritage’s president, Kevin Roberts, repeatedly praised the Hungarian leader on X: “One thing is clear from visiting Hungary and from being involved in current policy and cultural debates in America: the world needs a movement that fights for Truth, for tradition, for families, and for the average person.”

In recent years Orbán has championed a transatlantic far-right alliance with a hardline stance against immigration and “gender ideology”, staunch Christian nationalism and scorn for those who warn of a slide into authoritarianism.

Hungary has been portrayed by conservative media as an anti-“woke” paradise and model for the United States. Some far-right Republicans, such as Kari Lake and Paul Gosar, said they would like to see the “Hungarian model” transplanted to the US, especially when it comes to immigration and family policies. CPAC went to Hungary for the second time this year, and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson shot multiple episodes in Hungary touting Orbán policies.

Orbán has returned the favour by lavishing praise on Trump. During this year’s CPAC, where Roberts was also featured as a speaker, he claimed that if Trump were president, “there would be no war in Ukraine and Europe”. The Hungarian prime minister has criticised the multiple federal indictments against the former US president and called the judicial procedure a “very communist methodology” in a recent interview with Carlson.

Dalibor Rohac, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute thinktank in Washington, said: “The Hungarian embassy in DC has been very active lately, trying to repair ties with the Republicans and strengthen them where it’s appropriate.

“It is also not surprising that Heritage is the venue of these talks because they are different from other thinktanks in DC; they are more partisan, and their funding model heavily overlaps with the Trump base.”

But, Rohac said, despite his good relations with some Republicans it was “unlikely” that Orbán would have any leverage over US funding for Ukraine.

Supporters of Ukraine have also been making their case to Republicans in Congress. This week David Cameron, the British foreign secretary, held meetings on Capitol Hill. He told a press conference: “I am sure that goodwill will prevail and the money will be voted through, and it will have a huge effect not just on morale in Ukraine but also making sure that European countries keep asking themselves what more can they do.”

It seems that former president Donald Trump is aligning his supporters with a global far-right movement to destroy democracy. 

On Saturday, in Durham, New Hampshire, Trump echoed Nazi leader Adolf Hitler’s attacks on immigrants, saying they are “poisoning the blood of our country”—although two of his three wives were immigrants—and quoted Russian president Vladimir Putin’s attacks on American democracy. Trump went on to praise North Korean autocratic leader Kim Jong Un and align himself with Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán, the darling of the American right wing, who has destroyed Hungary’s democracy and replaced it with a dictatorship. 

Trump called Orbán “the man who can save the Western world.” 

Dr. Sarah Riccardi-Swartz, a professor of religion and anthropology at Northeastern University, explained in The Conversation what Trump is talking about. Autocrats like Orbán and Putin—and budding autocrats like Trump—are building a global movement by fighting back against the expansion of rights to women, minorities, and LGBTQ+ people. 

Russian leaders have been cracking down on LGBTQ+ rights for a decade with the help of the Russian Orthodox Church, claiming that they are protecting “traditional values.” This vision of heteronormativity rewrites the real history of human sexuality, but it is powerful in this moment. Orbán insists that immigrants ruin the purity of a country, and has undermined women’s rights.

Riccardi-Swartz explains that this rhetoric appeals to those in far-right movements around the world. In the United States, “family values” became tied to patriotism after World War II, when Chinese and Soviet communists appeared to be erasing traditional gender roles. Those people defined as anti-family—LGBTQ+ people and women who challenged patriarchy—seemed to be undermining society. Now, as dictators like Putin and Orbán promise to take away LGBTQ+ rights, hurt immigrants, and return power to white men, they seem to many to be protecting traditional society.

In the United States, that undercurrent has created a movement of people who are willing to overthrow democracy if it means reinforcing their traditional vision. Christian nationalists believe that the secular values of democracy are destroying Christianity and traditional values. They want to get rid of LGBTQ+ rights, feminism, immigration, and the public schools they believe teach such values. And if that means handing power to a dictator who promises to restore their vision of a traditional society, they’re in. 

It is an astonishing rejection of everything the United States has always stood for.

The White House today responded to Trump’s speech. White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates said: “Echoing the grotesque rhetoric of fascists and violent white supremacists and threatening to oppress those who disagree with the government are dangerous attacks on the dignity and rights of all Americans, on our democracy, and on public safety…. It’s the opposite of everything we stand for as Americans.”

So, what are the Male Nyotalia counterparts supposed to be like?

I'm aware that canonically, the Nyotalia counterparts are pretty much irrelevant to the series and were probably made for fun, but this has been bugging me for a while.

So, canonically, the female Nyos have personalities that are separate from their male counterparts. For example, Nyo!England is a "Kuudere" instead of a "Tsundere", Nyo!Russia is "emotionally unstable" instead of "childishly cruel", Nyo!France is more argumentative and protective of Canada, and Nyo!China is supposedly more difficult to read emotionally than China.

Female Nyos are also "stronger than their male counterparts." Nyo!Italy, Nyo!Romano, Nyo!America and Nyo!Germany are all total badasses and, according to Hima, "Hetalia with female Italy would not exist because she would keep beating everyone up."

We have all this info about the girls, but...what about the guys?

All we have are the canon designs, but no info on their personalities.

So I've been theorizing a bit. Let's say that the Nyos, regardless of gender, are meant to be stronger than their counterparts. With that in mind, would that make Nyo!Wy less of a Tsundere, or make Nyo!Belgium less insecure about his looks? With the way Hima writes his female characters, who are generally meant to be stronger than his male characters, this wouldn't make much sense.

I think a more likely theory is that the male Nyos are actually weaker and/or more soft-spoken in comparison to their female counterparts. I like to imagine that their personalities are like that of the first drafts of the original female characters (which would make sense in Nyo!Hungary's case since Hungary was originally going to be male and a pervert). But outside of that, perhaps Nyo!Belgium is all happy-go-lucky to compensate for low self-esteem? Is Nyo!Wy is a bit more aggressive and headstrong but secretly lonely (kinda like Ladonia)? Maybe Nyo!Belarus is more of a shy, mild-mannered Tsundere who mutters under his breath like how Belarus was originally meant to.

Update: I forgot to include Nyo!Monaco, turns out he actually has a personality (against all odds😅).

We can see here that Nyo!Monaco, while being considered "pretty strong", is still a lot more meek and soft-spoken compared to his female counterpart. Versus Monaco herself, who makes it abundantly clear from the moment you meet her that she bends backward for no one.

Friends don’t call you in the middle of the night, couldn’t even tell you why, they just felt like saying hi –

The phone screen lit up with Pierre’s name and I didn’t hesitate to answer. He would probably be on his way to the airport by now, if he wasn’t staying the night at his hotel.

“Hello, love.” Pierre sounded sleepy and there was no noise around him. Hotel it was.

“Pierre, isn’t it the middle of the night in Australia?”

I looked out of the window to see the sun only just beginning to set over France.

“It doesn’t matter. I’m not tired.”

“Liar.”

I could hear him laugh quietly.

“Is everything ok, Pierre? Do you need something?”

“No, just felt like saying hi to you.”

In my mind I could imagine the smug look that would be on his face; the cocky smile.

“In the middle of the night?”

“You’re always on my mind, love.”

If only he knew what his words did to me. Who was I kidding, he knew exactly what and that’s why he did it.

“You raced well today. Now go to sleep. You can see me in your dreams if you want to.”

“I’m counting on it, love.”

We walked slowly to the front door. It had been a great evening out with everyone but I wanted some time just with Pierre.

“When are you off again?”

“We fly out in two days.”

I knew it would be soon but it still hurt to hear. Reluctantly, I pulled my house keys out, pretending to look for the right one.

“Love.”

I looked at Pierre, meeting his blue eyes. Gently, he took the keys away and started his own search, taking significantly longer than I had.

“Will I see you before I go?” He asked.

“If you have time for me.”

“I always have time for you, love.”

He watched as my face flushed pink in the dim light before unlocking the front door for me.

“Oh, Pierre, your jacket!” I stated to remove it from my shoulders.

But no sooner was I pulling it off, Pierre was putting it back on me.

“Keep it. For now, at least.”

He made sure it sat snuggly before brushing his thumb over my cheek.

“You can give it back to me when I get back from Hungary.”

I just nodded as he pushed open the front door and stepped aside to let me go in.

“I’ll see you soon, love.”

~ Drive a little too slow, take the long way home, get a little too close –

Music softly spilled out of the speakers, playing one of my favourite songs. He always did though when I drove with him.

“Pierre, where exactly are we going?”

“If you wait five minutes more, love, you’ll see.”

With the sunglasses and the smile, he looked so arrogant. It was an act, of course, but he loved to use it to tease me.

I rolled my eyes and let him have his way.

Eventually, Pierre pulled off the road, into one of the tourists look-out points. Together we climbed out and peered off the edge of the hill. The sky was beautifully clear and we could see almost to the other end of the city.

“Wow…” I breathed out.

“It’s quite a sight, isn’t it, love?”

Pierre stood with his chest against my back and his arms over my shoulders; I felt his nose nuzzle against my ear.

‘God, what I wouldn’t give for him to kiss me right now.’

For a while, we stayed there drinking in the moment. I hoped it would be imprinted on my heart forever.

“Love…”

“Hmm?”

“Nothing.”

“You’re so annoying.”

I said it, but I didn’t really mean it.

“Are we taking the long route home?”

Pierre kept his eyes on the road, following the turns and curves with ease.

“Yes, it’s an adventure.” He turned the volume of the music down. “Plus, you get to spend more time with me.”

“The world does not revolve around you, Mr Gasly.”

I watched the corners of his mouth turn up.

“It doesn’t? That’s news to me.”

I shook my head in dismay.

“Don’t ever change, Pierre.”

“How can I? I’ll always have you to keep me in check.”

“Yes, you will.”

~ Cause we do, but friends don’t –

“Love, why aren’t you dating anyone?”

The simple question was like a hammer to the chest.

“I would if someone asked me.”

Pierre leant forward on the couch, resting his elbows on his knees.

“And what if I asked you?”

‘What am I meant to say to that, Pierre?’

“Theoretically, love.”

“Theoretically… I’d say yes.”

He gazed over at me as I sat next to him, his blue eyes looking straight through me.

“Why?”

“Pierre, do I really need to answer that?”

“Humour me.”

With I sigh, I relented and lowered my eyes before answering.

“Well, I already feel safe with you. I’ve opened my heart to you in the past and you’ve never hurt me. I know you’d be a good partner because… because you’re already a good friend to me.”

He took a moment to ponder what I’d said.

“Is that what we are? Just friends?” He wasn’t upset, he was just wanted answers.

“I’m not sure. Just friends don’t act like we do, Pierre.” I told him truthfully.

“No, they don’t.”

If there was ever a time to take a chance, it was now.

I moved closer, took his face in my hands and kissed him. It was like taking a breath after being underwater.

Slowly, I pulled away to see Pierre smiling.

“No, friends don’t do that.”

“But we do, love.”

Do you think hungary still identified as trans male after she is married to austria? I remember before married to austria, she met prussia that want to bandage her wound and she said about her chest getting muscle. thats look like she accept or realise she is a woman (?)

I don't think Hungary ever identified as trans male. As a kid, she initially thought every Nation was born a girl and would later turn into a boy through puberty. As a consequence, I believe she didn't ever identify as male but rather pretended to have already gone through puberty to hide the fact that she was (in her vision of how biology works) a 'late bloomer'.

When confronted with Prussia about it later, in the scene you're referring to, she admits that she had realized for a while that she's in fact "different" (a woman), although she tried to hide it for as long as she could - I believe she did so because she feared that if the other Nations found out she's a girl they'd start treating her differently and she didn't want that. Prussia's reaction to seeing her breasts did prove her point right, after all.

I think that, by the point of her confrontation with Prussia, she had grown pretty tired of hiding her true identity and wanted to explore her feminine side freely. She also seems to have developed a crush on Austria around the same time, and since she wanted Austria to notice and love her as a woman, her masculine façade had started to truly become a burden for her self-expression.

I think she still loves dressing up as a boy (bc come on, she's a damn fujoshi of course she loves to dress up as a bishie) and doesn't necessarily have only 'typically feminine' interests, but I believe she fully identifies as female. At most, from the outside she'd probably come off as a little non-binary, but I don't think she'd use that label on herself.

Actually I don't think Nations identify and label their own gender and sexual identity at all, but yeah.

Anyway, let's get to it!!

Also, I will say it again, this was written with a platonic relationship in mind, as it didn't specify whether you wanted it to be romantic or platonic.

Also, since a part of Hetalia!Hungary that I find very interesting is her past (to those who don't know, as a "child", Hungary posed as a boy and helped fight for her country) and how when she grew up, she did accept the feminine things, but was still quite a tomboy. Part of the most interesting points about this character (to me) is her gender; but since I plan on making this gender-neutral, I will be making it so that MC is a bit feminine-seeming, but has a lot of boyish moments (if that makes sense). However, this does not exactly get mentioned much; it still will be mentioned in some parts.

♣️ He learns that MC has a very unqiue nature and personality; to many people, they are very sweet, until something pisses them off and they get quite badass.

♣️ In the end, Trey enjoys MC's company, and MC learns to accept Trey and enjoy his company as well.

♠️ MC also finds Deuce to be very gentlemanly and proper; despite his deliquent background and tendencies.

🍩 So Ruggie naturally respects MC, even if they aren't actually a girl. It's just the appearance, so Ruggie (at first) treats MC with a lot more respect and obedience than he would a normal person.

🍩 But he doesn't go too far; he won't give them his food or something, NO!

🍩 But if need be, he'll keep open doors for them, and is a lot more susceptible to doing little favors for them.

🍩 MC, at first, thinks that Ruggie is a complete gentleman, despite his messy appearance.

🍩 They dote on him a lot too.

🍩 They would make him some food (Ruggie would always be over the moon after receiving the food) and be really affectionate to him.

🍩 Their affection and doting on him goes to the point it reminds Ruggie of his grandma.

🍩 He also very much enjoyed being spoiled by them.

🍩 However, when MC found out Ruggie was the one responsible for the "accidents" to the Magift players, they were FURIOUS.

🍩 So uhh... sorta like this video. MC as Hungary, Trey as Austria, and Ruggie as Prussia (tho he doesn't necessarily appear there). Just change (or remove) a couple of lines and you now see the situation.

🍩 Anyway, when they go back on good terms, MC is doing the best they can to spoil Ruggie even more.

🍩 Ruggie, on the other hand, likes getting spoiled, and often tries doing little things/favors for MC when he can.

🍩 MC also will hit Ruggie if he does something bad/wrong.

🐺 He's seen their fighting spirit and power and, with or without magic, Jack respects and appreciates that kind of thing.

🐺 During the Savanaclaw arc, when Jack challenges ADeuce to a fistfight, MC joins in.

🐺 Jack has to admit; they did real well against him.

🐺 Looking at them up close, he even notices their perfect form in fighting; they even beat him.

🍄 When Jade and Floyd stopped MC from getting to the Museum, they would have been defeated, had they not been underwater.

🍄 Since Floyd's Unique Magic doesn't exactly work on physical attacks (I think??), MC just swims up to them and hits them with their skillet, or just punches and/or kicks them.

🍄 Their movements were a lot slower, though, cuz they were in water.

🍄 Jade (and Floyd) came back with bruises.

🍄 Floyd was not happy; Jade wasn't either, but he was more.. intruiged.

🍄 MC has mixed feelings about Jade.

🍄 On one hand, they do like how he's quite gentlemanly.

🍄 But it's gone to the point where its quite infuriating; like he's mockingly being gentlemanly.

🍄 Not to mention, he did what he did to their "children".

🍄 But in end, they sorta reconcile and are in better terms.

🍄 MC also definitely told Jade a lot more about mushrooms and other human things, due to their lots of knowledge about things.

🍄 Now, Jade thinks that MC is really cool and very knowledgeable.

🍄 He also sees MC as a sort of guardian mentor figure to many people.

🍄 They both like to "gossip" a bit about a bunch of things.

🍄 Jade would even gladly disclose certain information to MC to help them.

🐍 But when he sees that they can benefit him in his plot against Kalim, he notices them a lot more.

🐍 During the Savanaclaw arc, when MC (and the others) investigate and "interrogate" the victims of the incidents.

🐍 He notices that MC was very sweet and caring to him.

🐍 This was something he wasn't used to; he was so used to seeing Kalim be the one to be doted on.

🐍 So this was really new.

🐍 A very welcome feeling though.

🐍 It fuels his ego-

🐍 Anyway, during the Scarabia arc, he was amazed by how well MC cooked.

🐍 MC also noticed how Jamil seemed to be... holding back

🐍 They also noticed how distasteful he seemed towards Kalim.

🐍 They definitely suspected Jamil.

🐍 When Jamil snapped, MC was ANGRY

🐍 HOW DARE HE DO THIS?!?! (They got attached to Kalim; he reminded them of Italy)

🐍 Anyway, when they got to him, they obliterated his overblot.

🐍 MC used their skillet (and had someone summon a sword for them) and defeated his overblot with ease.

🐍 However, while MC is angry at Jamil, they do understand that his feelings are justified.

🐍 But they believe that it isn't Kalim's fault, but his parents'; he shouldn't be directing his anger to Kalim, when he has done nothing to him.

🐍 This is what they say to Jamil, after he recovers from his overblot.

🐍 They also take care of him; they get him food, drinks, and help him around.

🐍 Jamil listens to Mc's words a lot; he tries reflecting on those words and tries to work on them.

🐍 In the end, Jamil and MC do reconcile and learn to accept each other.

🐍 Now, MC finds Jamil to be very hardworking and quite good at a lot of things.

🐍 Jamil also finds MC to be great company. He also finds them to be very knowledgeable about lots of things.

🐍 They often help each other cook in the kitchen; as well as helping each other with chores.

A draft law in Serbia aims to allow the authorities to use both public and private CCTV cameras and facial recognition technology for the remote identification of citizens, raising concerns about mass surveillance of people during public assemblies or protests.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the assembly of the country’s Serb-led entity Republika Srpska has passed a law making defamation a crime punishable with a fine of up to 1,500 euros.

Romania’s parliament adopted a law increasing criminal penalties for acts of “outrage” against public officials and “disturbing of public order and peace”, among other offences.

In Hungary, some bookshops faced fines for selling books that deal with homosexuality in their youth sections and for failing to sell them in closed packaging.

These are some of the steps being taken in the wrong direction noted by rights watchdog Amnesty International in its latest yearly report on the “State of the World’s Human Rights”, published on Wednesday.

Worldwide, Amnesty says, freedom is under attack and authoritarian practices are on the rise. The number of people living in democratic countries is now the lowest since 1985.

Journalists face attacks and lawsuits

The Balkan region seems to be part of the international trend, albeit at a different speed, it says.

Journalists are often victims of this authoritarian tendency across the Balkan region, the report observes, as they became the objects of smear campaigns, strategic lawsuits or SLAPPs, or outright physical attacks in several countries.

In Serbia, independent and investigative journalists and activists faced “threats, vilification and punitive civil proceedings”, the report notes. In Albania, journalists were subjected to hate speech, physical assaults and a gun attack.

The report notes how Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj referred to a female journalist as “contract killer” following her investigation highlighting his role in a corruption scandal. In March, a security guard was murdered when unknown assailants sprayed bullets at the offices of Top Channel, Albania’s largest private TV station. Police have been unable to identify the authors of the attack or uncover their motives.

In Bosnia, the Journalists’ Association recorded an increase in attacks on journalists, with over 70 cases recorded in 2023, of which only a few were investigated. In Kosovo, journalists also faced “increased hostility”.

In North Macedonia, changes in the law regulating civil liability for insult and defamation reduced fines imposed on journalists. That welcome change, however, failed to curb the growing use of strategic lawsuits or SLAPPs. Journalists in Croatia are facing currently at least 945 SLAPPs, “mostly filed by public officials”.

The report said press freedom in Montenegro had improved, however, as the Appeals Court quashed proceedings against investigative journalist Jovo Martinović, wrongly convicted and imprisoned for drug trafficking.

Gender-based violence is a serious concern

The report highlights that gender-based violence remains a serious concern in Serbia where 27 women were victims of feminicide and in Albania, where 12 women were murdered last year by their partners or family members; in Kosovo, where there were six such deaths.

LGBTI rights remained under attack from religious groups in Serbia and North Macedonia; Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced he would never approve the Law on Same Sex Unions.

Bosnia and Herzegovina was identified as one of the most hostile places in the world for LGBTI people. Albania registered “no progress” in this field.

Rights of refugees increasingly violated

The Balkans is also becoming a hotspot for refugee rights violations, the report underlines; to the old issue of Greece prosecuting rights activists who help emigrants is added new ones, including the plight of some 35,000 arrivals who were registered, some 2,500 of whom are estimated to be stranded there.

A controversial agreement between Albania PM Edi Rama and his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, to build a camp in Albania to host refugees rescued in international waters in the Mediterranean became the latest concern.

Albania, a country that once exported droves of asylum seekers, agreed to allow Italy to place thousands of migrants there each month in facilities built at Italian taxpayer’s expense.

Costing an estimated 800 million euros, the operation is seen as a political coup for PM Meloni as she tries to reassure her right-wing base that she is acting against illegal emigration – even though the number of these processed in Albania, at just 3,000 per month, is just a faction of the total arrivals – and even though many of those processed in Albania will have to be transferred again to Italy.

Human rights organisations and others have expressed concern about the wider impact this could have on the human rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants, including automatic and therefore arbitrary detention.

A story in the New York Times today by Jonathan Swan, Charlie Savage, and Maggie Haberman outlined how former president Donald Trump and his allies are planning to create a dictatorship if voters return him to power in 2024. The article talks about how Trump and his loyalists plan to “centralize more power in the Oval Office” by “increasing the president’s authority over every part of the federal government that now operates, by either law or tradition, with any measure of independence from political interference by the White House.” 

They plan to take control over independent government agencies and get rid of the nonpartisan civil service, purging all but Trump loyalists from the U.S. intelligence agencies, the State Department, and the Defense Department. They plan to start “impounding funds,” that is, ignoring programs Congress has funded if those programs aren’t in line with Trump’s policies.

“What we’re trying to do is identify the pockets of independence and seize them,” said Russell T. Vought, who ran Trump’s Office of Management and Budget and who now advises the right-wing House Freedom Caucus. They envision a “president” who cannot be checked by the Congress or the courts.

Trump’s desire to grab the mechanics of our government and become a dictator is not new; both scholars and journalists have called it out since the early years of his administration. What is new here is the willingness of so-called establishment Republicans to support this authoritarian power grab. 

Behind this initiative is “Project 2025,” a coalition of more than 65 right-wing organizations putting in place personnel and policies to recommend not just to Trump, but to any Republican who may win in 2024. Project 2025 is led by the Heritage Foundation, once considered a conservative think tank, that helped to lead the Reagan revolution.

A piece by Alexander Bolton in The Hill today said that Republican senators are “worried” by the MAGAs, but they have been notably silent in public at a time when every elected leader should be speaking out against this plot. Their silence suggests they are on board with it, as Trump apparently hoped to establish. 

The party appears to have fully embraced the antidemocratic ideology advanced by authoritarian leaders like Russia’s president Vladimir Putin and Hungary’s prime minister Viktor Orbán, who argue that the post–World War II era, in which democracy seemed to triumph, is over. They claim that the tenets of democracy—equality before the law, free speech, academic freedom, a market-based economy, immigration, and so on—weaken a nation by destroying a “traditional” society based in patriarchy and Christianity.

Instead of democracy, they have called for “illiberal” or “Christian” democracy, which uses the government to enforce their beliefs in a Christian, patriarchal order. What that looks like has a clear blueprint in the actions of Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who has gathered extraordinary power into his own hands in the state and used that power to mirror Orbán’s destruction of democracy.

DeSantis has pushed through laws that ban abortion after six weeks, before most people know they’re pregnant; banned classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity (the “Don’t Say Gay” law); prevented recognition of transgender individuals; made it easier to sentence someone to death; allowed people to carry guns without training or permits; banned colleges and businesses from conversations about race; exerted control over state universities; made it harder for his opponents to vote, and tried to punish Disney World for speaking out against the Don’t Say Gay law. After rounding up migrants and sending them to other states, DeSantis recently has called for using “deadly force” on migrants crossing unlawfully.

Because all the institutions of our democracy are designed to support the tenets of democracy, right-wingers claim those institutions are weaponized against them. House Republicans are running hearings designed to prove that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice are both “weaponized” against Republicans. It doesn’t matter that they don’t seem to have any evidence of bias: the very fact that those institutions support democracy mean they support a system that right-wing Republicans see as hostile. 

“Our current executive branch,” Trump loyalist John McEntee, who is in charge of planning to pack the government with Trump loyalists, told the New York Times reporters, “was conceived of by liberals for the purpose of promulgating liberal policies. There is no way to make the existing structure function in a conservative manner. It’s not enough to get the personnel right. What’s necessary is a complete system overhaul.”

It has taken decades for the modern-day Republican Party to get to a place where it rejects democracy. The roots of that rejection lie all the way back in the 1930s, when Democrats under Franklin Delano Roosevelt embraced a government that regulated business, provided a basic social safety net, and promoted infrastructure. That system ushered in a period from 1933 to 1981 that economists call the “Great Compression,” when disparities of income and wealth were significantly reduced, especially after the government also began to protect civil rights. 

Members of both parties embraced this modern government in this period, and Americans still like what it accomplished. But businessmen who hated regulation joined with racists who hated federal protection of civil rights and traditionalists who opposed women’s rights and set out to destroy that government. 

In West Palm Beach, Florida, last weekend, at the Turning Points Action Conference, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) compared President Biden’s Build Back Better plan to President Lyndon Baines Johnson’s Great Society programs, which invested in “education, medical care, urban problems, rural poverty, transportation, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, and welfare, the Office of Economic Opportunity, and big labor and labor unions.” She noted that under Biden, the U.S. has made “the largest public investment in social infrastructure and environmental programs, that is actually finishing what FDR started, that LBJ expanded on, and Joe Biden is attempting to complete.” 

Well, yeah.

Greene incorrectly called this program “socialism,” which in fact means government ownership of production, as opposed to the government’s provision of benefits people cannot provide individually, a concept first put into practice in the United States by Abraham Lincoln and later expanded by leadership in both parties. The administration has stood firmly behind the idea—shared by LBJ and FDR, and also by Republicans Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Dwight Eisenhower, among others—that investing in programs that enable working people to prosper is the best way to strengthen the economy. 

Certainly, Greene’s speech didn’t seem to be the “gotcha” that she apparently hoped. A March 2023 poll by independent health policy pollster KFF, for example, found that 80% of Americans like Social Security, 81% like Medicare, and 76% like Medicaid, a large majority of members of all political parties.  

The White House Twitter account retweeted a clip of Greene’s speech, writing: “Caught us. President Biden is working to make life easier for hardworking families.”

Capital: Eichenstadt

Description: The Republic of Liensta is a (fictional) floating sky island nation. It is located on the border between Germany and Austria, sitting about a mile up in the sky. Physically, it is somewhat bowl-shaped, the lowest point being the lake Eiche See in the middle of the country. The country’s single main river, the river Chausk, flows into Eiche See. Most of the country is composed of rolling hills, with some mountains in the southwest, west, northwest, and east of the country (the ones in the western part of the country are bigger).

A Brief History: It is unknown how long Liensta has existed physically, or why and how. It first appeared in historical records during the Roman times, but some historians believe that its existence inspired the existence of Mount Olympus from Greek mythology and Asgard from Norse mythology. It was uninhabited until the 9th century, when Germanic mages found a way to fly up and settle it. The country was officially founded in the 10th century. Despite its magic origins, Liensta managed to stay connected to the mundane world below, historically and culturally. Its closest ties was with Austria, the Holy Roman Empire, and eventually Germany. For a long time, until the 19th century, Liensta was considered neutral ground, and everyone left their conflicts out of the sky. It was during the 19th century that Prussia invaded Liensta and took it over until Lienstan forces were able to drive the Prussian ones out. I haven’t worked out what happened during the World Wars in Liensta, but in modern times, it is independent and peaceful. It is part of the EU, and has multiple entrances into the country where you can take a gigantic elevator up (or, for the old-fashioned, a hot air balloon)

Human name: Agnes Edelstein

Physical age: Early 20s

Gender: Cisgender female

Eye color: Violet (the same color as the dulceflor, a flower only found in Liensta)

Hair color: Light brown, with a white streak at the front, a physical reminder of the time Prussia/Gilbert conquered her

Backstory: In her toddlerhood and part of her childhood (at least a few centuries), Agnes was raised alongside her twin brother, Austria/Roderich. As time went on, they were separated, having to attend to their duties in their respective countries, but they still managed to find their way back to each other. During the Renaissance, they even lived in the same house, along with Hungary, North Italy, and HRE. Of course, this didn’t last forever, and they were separated once more. Sometime in the 18th century, she met her closest friend, Canada/Matthew, when she was introduced to him by France/Francis and they stayed in contact through letters and saw each other whenever possible. Eventually, she’d develop a crush on him and pine for him for a long time. In the 19th century, Prussia invaded, and Gilbert essentially kidnapped Agnes and forced her to live in his home and be his servant, causing her to permanently hate him. Eventually, she managed to escape his home but was greatly weakened and ill. Sweden/Berwald found her and got her back on her feet, and she was able to drive Prussia out of her country. Like I said, I don’t know what she did during the World Wars but I imagine that for a while she was living in the same house as her brother, Germany/Ludwig, and Gilbert. In modern times, she’s pretty much just chilling.

Personality: Socially, she is introverted and prefers to be alone/keep to herself, but when she does socialize, she is a friendly, calm, and polite presence (usually). That being said, she is also not the best at reading social cues and can come across as blunt, strange, or socially awkward at times. She gets grumpy or irritated on occasion, but she’s slow to truly anger. When she does truly anger - watch out, because her anger is explosive and she is capable of being very destructive while angry.

In addition, she is AuDHD (very late diagnosed - probably in the mid-to-late 2010s), which makes her come across as scatter-minded, contradictory, and a bit odd. She has sensory issues, especially with food and clothing, and is prone to crying meltdowns when anxious or overstimulated. She also stims, her more common ones being pacing, spinning, and dancing.

Hobbies/Interests: Gardening/the environment, dancing (especially ballroom dancing/fancy rich people dancing, I also feel like she tried ballet at some point), magic (her country was founded by mages, of course she knows and can do magic!), crocheting, literature and books, music (she can play the violin, cello, piano, and harp, but she’s nowhere as good as her twin at playing instruments), TV shows

Special abilities: Due to being a floating sky nation, Agnes can manipulate the wind/airbend, as well as jump higher than all nations and float (useful for falling. In fact, sometimes she just jumps off her nation and floats down instead of taking an elevator or balloon). In addition, she can also do magic and spells, and is quite adept at it, although she doesn’t like to do it often. She hasn’t joined the Magic Trio because she’s too socially awkward to do so and she doesn’t know the three of them that well (in some AUs, this changes, especially in ones where Agnes starts dating Matthew and gets to know Arthur better by proxy)

Significant Relationships

Austria/Roderich - Her twin brother. Overall, they are very close, but there is some underlying angst that could be resolved. Part of Agnes resents him for not being around as often as he could, due to his marriages, and she also resents him for not doing anything to rescue her from Gilbert’s rule (he tried, but Hungary/Erzebet convinced him not to, but Agnes doesn’t know that). Sometimes, their personalities clash, with Roderich being so uptight and formal and Agnes being less so, and with Agnes being much more outdoorsy, but they have more in common than they don’t. Both are huge fans of sweet things, introverts, music-lovers, not the strongest physically, not to mention autistic. They get each other, and Roderich is one of the few people who can defuse Agnes when she’s in her super-angry mode, and Agnes is very capable of getting Roderich out of his grumpiness at times and loosening him up. Deep down inside, they love each other very much and take a bullet for one another.

From his side, Roderich very much regrets kinda neglecting her in the past, especially during his marriages, and he definitely regrets not making an effort to rescue Agnes from Gilbert. He is unsure how to make his regrets known or apologize, though.

Germany/Ludwig - Agnes’ little brother. She’s close with him and loves him, but not as much as Roderich. Gilbert’s presence in Ludwig’s life also influenced this. During her time as Gilbert’s servant, it was Ludwig who often comforted her and was a non-hostile presence, and she and him got to know each other very well during this time, and again during the World Wars when they were living together. Agnes does not like how much he hangs out with Gilbert, though, and Ludwig understands this, as much as it hurts him to see. He wants to get along with both of them without having to choose one over the other and loves them both. That being said, Agnes does not try to keep him from hanging out and associating with Gilbert, as much as it hurts her.

Prussia/Gilbert - technically Agnes’ estranged older brother. In her childhood, he was just an annoyance to her and teased her the way many siblings do, and she only saw him as an annoyance, but as the years went on and he started picking on Roderich and going to war with him, she began to dislike him more and more until he eventually kidnapped her/took her over, and she started to loathe him. In situations where she is forced to be in his vicinity, like world meetings and the like, she just pretends he doesn’t exist, and they do have to interact, she is uncharacteristically cold and rude to him. Most of the time, she will do anything to avoid him, including leaving social situations.

From his side, deep down, Gilbert understands why she treats him the way she does and part of him wants to apologize for how he treated her in the past and try and reconcile, but another part of him thinks this is hopeless

Canada/Matthew - One of Agnes’ closest friends (and crush in most AUs). They met at some fancy dinner thing in the 18th century, introduced by Francis, and since both were being ignored at this fancy dinner thing, they snuck off together and befriended one another. Afterwards, they stayed in contact, sending letters whenever they could (and eventually telegraph, then telephone, etc). Their personalities complement each other well, both being a little shy and outdoorsy and they both bond over being ignored/forgotten about a lot. In most AUs, it is hard for Agnes to not eventually develop a crush on him (and in most AUs he reciprocates!). Of course, then they end up pining for one another for years and years on end without doing anything about it….

Sweden/Berwald - Another good friend of Agnes’. After she escaped from Gilbert’s house, she was weak and ill and collapsed in the forest, and Berwald found her, took her back to his place, and nursed her back to health. As a result, they became friends and still are friends to this day, with the two of them exchanging gifts that either they themselves made or from their home countries a lot, and Berwald even inviting Agnes a few times to Christmas parties with the rest of the Nordics. Agnes is one of the few people who sees past his scary exterior and he appreciates her for that. (I have one AU where Berwald is bisexual and they end up together as well)

Nyo usuk: yeah I also think they are a lot more flexible in their roles as Arthur and Alfred are (not that they don’t change it up but I do think there’s a preferred dom/sub dynamic they have). Alice and Amelia seems like very different types of doms though. Alice is like the strict type that inflicts (consensual) physical punishment on Amelia while Amelia rather withdraws pleasure or degraded Alice when it’s her time to take the lead. 👀

US state senator strikes back against “grooming” slander, and shows us how to defeat the extremists

It seems the US Republican Party has lost all sense of decency, as it is now doing its best to destroy the lives of  all LGBTQA people. They are terrorizing transgender kids in particular . 

(No, this is not “unnecessary strong language.” This is exactly what they are doing.)

They have now expanded their war to LGBTQA people in general,  using the old tactic of insinuating that queer and trans people are grooming and seducing kids to be queer.

It is time for good Americans to fight back

I must admit that I am more than a little disappointed in the moderate conservatives of the US, as well as the centrists and left wing progressives. 

While the right wing extremists are threatening the very democracy of the US, and states like Florida and Texas become increasingly Fascist, the decent part of American politics (which remains the majority) seems unable to counter-attack in any efficient way.

Michigan Senator Mallory McMorrow shows the way

This is why I liked the way Michigan Senator Mallory McMorrow replied when a when a Republican colleague implied she was a “groomer.”

Earlier this week, McMorrow — a Democrat representing Michigan’s District 13 — was mentioned by name in a fundraising email from Sen. Lana Theis (R-22) that accused McMorrow and her party of child abuse. “Progressive social media trolls like Senator Mallory McMorrow (D-Snowflake) […] are outraged they can’t teach can’t groom [sic] and sexualize kindergarteners,” the email read, warning parents of teachers who were supposedly introducing “gender bending indoctrination” to children and “stealing their innocence” with sexual material.

On Tuesday, McMorrow hit back with a blistering speech in the Senate chamber that struck at the core of Republican bigotry, and almost immediately went viral.

“I realized I am the biggest threat to your hollow, hateful, scheme,” McMorrow said, addressing Theis obliquely, “because you can’t claim you’re targeting marginalized kids in the name of ‘parental rights’ if another parent is standing up to say ‘no.’”

McMorrow presented her own bona fides as a “straight, White, Christian” woman whose faith is based in service, referencing examples set by her mother and Father Ted Hesburgh, whose religion led him to help construct the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

“Call me whatever you want […] I know who I am,” McMorrow said. “I know what faith and service means, and what it calls for in this moment. We will not let hate win.”

“The Culture War” has become a war against culture

The Republican extremists are right when they say that there is a culture war going on. They have, like Putin in Russia, Orban in Hungary and the TERFs in Britain, declared war on all the progress we have seen in recent years as far as marginalized groups are concerned.  

You do not negotiate with evil.  If we have learned anything from the war in Ukraine it is this: You do not try to placate Fascists. You fight them with everything you’ve got. And in this case you rip off their masks and show the world their true nature. 

I refuse to believe that the majority of Americans want to turn back the clock to a time when it was OK to erase the identities of trans and queer people.

Keep on fighting!
