Actually ridiculous how charmed I am by this silly little (well, comparatively) transmigration story.

How to survive as a villain by YiYiYiYi

That's the cover, but it's way more dramatic than the romance actually is xD

The art is so pretty tho

It's just adorable? The protag is at moments just as clueless as Shen Yuan from SVSSS, but he is also a genuinely good person who wants to do good by others and the love interest is very charming, if stereotypically stone-faced.

I am surprised how engaging the side characters are and how much they mean to the protagonist? Shit goes badly for him all the time and a couple times I found myself unexpectedly bawling my eyes out TT

The plot is the usual "I have died and transmigrated into a stallion novel to wake up in the body of the villain that will be killed by the perfect protagonist! Oh no, I have to hug the MC's tights and become his friend! What do you mean he fell in love with me????" But it's told with enough energy and humour to make it memorable, and the way the main character integrates himself into the new world, taking in the burden of his new role and caring about his subjects and friends is just lovely.

How to survive as a villain (穿越成反派要如何活命) was an excellent cathartic mlm novel, read it in 8 hours nonstop it hit all the right notes of tragedy & love. All the main characters were gay and sacrificed a lot for their love, though it made me cry a couple times it was very heartwarming. Not sure how to describe/advertise the novel, it was just damn good and primarily a love story if that's what you're looking for.

Clear and Muddy Loss of Love (泾渭情殇) on the other hand was a tragic wlw masterpiece. It had some of the best politicking/court drama and intrigue I've ever seen, and each of the main cast were so compelling and empathizable - you can't help but empathize with all of the cast, even through blood feuds and horrific acts you still understand their perspectives and motivation. The main character, a crossdressing prince from a conquered nation becoming a scholar and bureaucrat for his/her revenge, had such narrative voice and journey it's... hard to describe. The book was so good but it made me cry so damn much it's really fucking tragic, even though it had a happy ending there was a lot of suffering to get there. It's long but if a court intrigue wlw revenge novel sounds appealing to you, well, there's nothing better than JWQS.
