The True Identity of Matoba Seiji's sister?
this is something that's been on my mind lately, I may be overthinking this and reading too much into things. I have a crazy theory on my mind so thought I wanna share it before I explode by myself xD
what I have next are from chapters yet to be translated so if you don't wanna be spoiled then don't continue reading :)
before I start I just wanna emphasize all of what I'm gonna say is purely my own theories and ideas, also my Japanese is bad so I might make some mistakes thus if you noticed anything I'd be glad if you can correct me ^^
lastly, I don't know how long this post will turn out to be so sorry in advance ><
-What about Shinobu?
i want to start with this first to clear out the way, of why I don't believe Shinobu to be Seiji's sister. but another twist from Midorikawa-sensei (I mean how many times did she makes us suffer in figuring out the true identity of Seiji's sister for me to trust her easily now)
Tumblr media
she started and ended this chapter in a way that makes you believe that Shinobu is THE miss Matoba but is she really ??
Shinobu said "really? thank you I'm glad to hear that"
is that enough to point out to herself and not to someone she knew perhaps? for example, she knew Seiji's sister or work for her so she's happy to hear someone praise her?
Tumblr media
I really don't trust her since her deep knowledge of the exorcist world means she's not normal therefore she's in it one way or another but in what form I don't know yet, yup yup even her being Seiji's Sister isn't even 0% but I just find it weird and doesn't add up for now for me ...
Tumblr media
I mean she can't even see the Yokai!! (Unless she lied which I doubt) now tell me, is a future leader of the Matoba clan someone who can't see Yokai? we all know what that means for a successor of an exorcist family to lose the sight. plus, if I'm not mistaken, the talk was that Seiji was more powerful than her which's why he was picked over her despite being the youngest so it was not because he was able to see the Yokai unlike her ... in short, his sister should be able to see the Yokai but Shinobu can't!!!
Tumblr media
"a long-haired, elegant well-dressed woman"
and this important detail by Tanuma's investigation worth taking into note, since if the thief is truly Seiji's sister, then that's NOT Shinobu unless you consider Shinobu having a long-hair xDD
so you see now why I don't believe her to be Seiji's true sister (I have other reasons but we'll come up to it next)
-If not Shinobu then who?
now we're back to square one huh, Midorikawa-sensei sure love to torture us in this arc and tease us to no end while making us suffer (which's why I love you tho ~)
before I point out to who I believe to be his sister I wanna point out to something else so you can see my line of thinking :)
listen, I don't know how or why I thought that other than I followed my intuition since I read too much into Seiji's character while thinking and linking things together (this guy is making me go crazy! I'm so sorry I have nothing better to back me up here so bear with me please ><)
Tumblr media
we all know that Seiji doesn't like divination and guess what, I believe the reason of why is that lies with his sister one way or another.
please DON'T ask me why I think so since it's hard to explain without sounding insane xDD
BUT IT'LL MAKE SENSE I PROMISE JUST WAIT FOR IT!!!
I mean this sweet, lovely chapter was in fact a soft set-up for this Miss Matoba arc which thinking about it now let me laugh that Midorikawa-sensei did it to us yet again lol
okay okay, stop this and just tell us who is this Miss Matoba already !!!
now let's review what we believe are hints to Seiji's sister
someone with a blond long hair
someone who should be able to see Yokai but we've yet to know if this person can or can't (meaning someone NOT Shinobu)
Someone who love or do divination (since Seiji hates it)
someone we never get to know their REAL names (again aside from Shinobu)
someone having an interest in anything Yokai related
someone who should be in this arc.
now tell me, does anyone comes to mind maybe ? someone whom for some reason mysteriously disappeared ever since she set foot into the auction perhaps ??
Tumblr media
true, I meant her. Kurara or whatever her name is. no matter which way I slice it she just fit everything in my mind so I just can't help but think she is the REAL Miss Matoba. her disappearing ever since she dropped Natsume isn't really helping her case tbh. she also love and do divination which just so fit with my idea that his sister have something to do with divination which's why he isn't a big fan to that ><
and I said it to a friend, I just won't believe who's Seiji's sister till I see them both facing each other so nope I won't fall for Midorikawa-sensei trap AGAIN!!!
I know this might be far-fetched but I just couldn't stop thinking about it since alot was bothering me and I read into many things too much maybe but I HAD to let it out my chest so yup here you have it <3
-Bonus :Ultra small crazy theory
this one is ... ummm... listen... I know Seiji is making me go crazy and this one I just DON'T have any proof to really back it up like him hating divination because of his sister so just take this with grain of salt ... it just ... I WANTED TO JUST SHARE IT SINCE MY FIREND WAS GONNA KILL ME OF HOW CRAZY I AM TO COME UP WITH THIS !!!!
i mean if I said ... Kuro Misa (Black Misa) might refer to two people will you say I'm going crazy? haha ha ha
Seiji is very handsome indeed, but would you describe him as "doll-like beauty" ?? (you are to me at least, don't worry) not with that eyepatch at least, right ? if there's someone whom I would say is a "doll-like beauty." it would be Kurara.
one line hit me as being weird and my mind went "wait!! is it possible?!! what if ...!!!!" ever since I moved with the line of thoughts that Kurara is Seiji's sister ... umm... it's rumors and I know people never really know much about Kuro Misa ... but certain line felt off to me which was "she was beautiful like a doll" when describing Kuro Misa before we know it was actually Seiji's other hidden identity.
Kuro Misa wear a black veil that no one ever saw her face or have any idea what kind of a person she is, so it won't be far-fetched for people not to notice if it's two different person under the veil.
Tumblr media
and it didn't help my case that this arc started with Kurara like this ... even Natsume thought she was Kuro Misa ><
this brings me to think that, what if Seiji created Kuro Misa in respond to his sister? so that he can keep an eye on her movement or to at least be in the same circle as her. which's why he picked such a character that is so unlike him since he just hate divination so why bother being known as someone famous of such a thing?? (I swear this man deserve all the respect for all the things he just do to protect his clan but no one ever appreciate it T^T)
Tumblr media
Seiji also said that wearing a veil is very helpful since it will help him to recognize the faces of anyone whom tries to come closer to him to uncover his secrets, but what if a hidden/indirect meaning is also that if someone whom thought he was his sister thus come closer to talk to him that would help him recognize his enemies or the people his sister tried to make contact with to let them join her side in her fight against the Matoba clan !!
I know all of this might not make any sense, and as I said this one is just a very crazy theory of mine that won't be true mostly but was fun to think about .. if I hit it close to the truth I'd be very shocked of myself tbh xDD
if you read it to the end I just thank you for bearing with me and my crazy thoughts and theories ~
don't mind my english if it sounded weird or such, not my native language.
If anyone have anything to add or wanna correct anything I'd be glad and happy to hear it, and if you think I'm crazy it's okay xDD
I can't wait for the next chapter to just drop since I'm losing my mind over thinking everything and coming up with crazy thought and theories while waiting ><

Honestly, I think that if Kotoko doesn't have any kind of tragic backstory or deep-ridden trauma and did have a relatively normal upbringing like she says she does, it will probably heighten my enjoyment of her character and her narrative even more. I've said it before and I'll say it again, my favorite thing about Kotoko's narrative and role in the story and why she is my favorite prisoner is the fact that she is the perfect encapsulation of what I think Milgram is trying to teach. It is unfair to put her, or any of these prisoners into boxes of good and bad because both are cruel oversimplifications that only serve to dehumanize them regardless of if the audience's intentions are good or bad. By dehumanizing them and partaking in the fucked up justice system that is Milgram, you are emotionally distancing yourself from them. When you emotionally distance yourself from these people, you become more ignorant to the possibility that you could do the very thing that they're doing. That Haruka, Yuno, Fuuta, Muu, Shidou, Mahiru, Kazui, Amane, Mikoto, and especially Kotoko could all be you and you won't know it before it is too late. That is why even within this system that pushes black-and-white nuance-less thinking, the narrative itself encourages you to look beyond the surface depiction of these prisoners that we are presented with. Because in the words of one Will Wood - "If you were in my shoes, you'd see I wear the same size as you" But what does any of that have to do with Kotoko and her backstory? Well, @/archivalofsins / Gunsli made a very good post that explains exactly what I'm going to talk about in more depth, but I'll give it a rundown nonetheless. It would be very easy for someone to look at a person who has gone through tragedy or trauma who has done bad things, and say in response: "See, I can't become like that because she is abnormal. I could never do that, that would never happen to me.". Now I would hope that you don't need me to tell you that this way of thinking is a white lie cake rich with ableist frosting, but that is a discussion dug into by Gunsli's post. And I do believe, if Kotoko is revealed to have a tragic traumatic backstory, this will happen to her. Because it happened to Amane. And that is why Kotoko having a 'normal life' would be so important to me and, in my opinion, heighten her already amazing narrative and writing. Her role in the story is to be a audience parallel, she is an embodiment of the system and mindset Milgram as a story criticizes and her actions are a direct consequence of our involvement in it. Milgram is already not subtle about this fact, but Kotoko's ordinary upbringing is the thing that fully hammers the nail in the wood. Anyone can become like Kotoko Yuzuriha, trauma or not. Her beliefs, her bigotry, her fascism, her violence, and her fantasy to be the chivalrous hero who protects the weak are not things that are alien or only things that form within an "abnormal" brain. In fact, they are very normal things that a lot of normal people across the globe perpetuate wholeheartedly whether they realize it or not. Kotoko isn't some one-of-a-kind individual She is literally just a girl

I think it would be really cool if Haru's relationship with Endou was very chill. Like, of course he misses his dad and would want him to stay home more often. But his feelings towards soccer have nothing to do with that. Like the fact that he finds the sport boring now doesn't have anything to do with his dad.
I simply think that we already have lived a lot of times the trope of the son not understanding his dad(EHM ehm boruto...). Also Haru really looks like a very reasonable guy to me.
So if he ever got into any arguments with his dad it wouldn't have anything to do with soccer. It would just be because he misses him deeply.

You know what the worst part about making this Fable smp theory video is?
If I really need something confirmed, I'll try to go to the discord Lore q&a channel... but I don't like doing that, cause talking in the discord makes me anxious in a - I'm socially awkward and asking questions to actual cast members is low-key intimidating cause I think they're really cool and that makes me more anxious - kinda way...
But I have to do it if I want to get my facts straight...

Everyone keeps suggesting that Sojiro not owning LeBlanc means something bad happened to him but it could always mean that Wakaba never died in this universe
Haha, yeah! If we assume there really are counterparts to every P5 character in P5X's universe that have just lived different lives, the butterfly effect becomes super apparently really quickly: Goro Akechi lived a different life, which inherently means Shido, Joker, Okumura, Haru, Maruki, Wakaba, Sojiro, and Futaba's lives would all look pretty different right now, too.

My newest crack theory for Avatar: The Last Airbender:
Just, keep in mind, this is not serious.
You see, rewatching the show as an adult, two characters that stood out to me were Haru and Azulon, because I think that they kind of look like me, with the long hair, the beards, the lean frame, the thin, long-ish jaw... And that's when it dawned on me....that means they look like each other!
Both as teens...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and as young adults!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Compare this to Tyro, who really dosen't resemble Haru at all, and we come to the inevitable conclusion that Haru is secretly Azulon's illegitimate son.
Tumblr media
Now there are two problems with that theory. Firstly, Azulon has grandchildren that are the same age as Haru's, and is therefore too old to believably be his father. However, Azulon's own father, Sozin, had him at the age of 82, so it's not completely unreasonable Azulon himself would father a child at that age.
Secondly, Haru is an earthbender instead of a firebender, and the show implies that he inherited it from his father Tyro. It's possible though that Haru inherited the earthbending from his mother, either through a dormant gene that skipped a generation or Haru's mother actually was an earthbender and kept it a secret to not be taken in by the fire nation, just like she wanted Haru to do.
Do I think that Haru is the secret offspring of Azulon for real? Nah. But I throwing the Idea around in my head was fun, despite how unlikely it is.

The source of Matoba Seiji's hate for Youkai ?
Lately, I've been thinking alot about this and didn't find anyone actually mention it from where I searched (?)
Seiji has many things going on for him .. (MANY THINGS that I just wanna talk about them all and just cry alot) but today I'll just focus on a little theory I have about this little matter :)
From where do I start I wonder ?
Tumblr media
I've always noticed that in the manga especially when Seiji got first introduced, it was emphasized that he hold a certain grudge toward the youkai which's seems personal more than out of his job as an exorcist ..
Tumblr media
These lines were on my mind along with some of Seiji's line, about how youkai always take advantages of human's weakness and vulnerability. then I linked alot of things together (my mind love to make me suffer it seems)
Does that mean, perhaps Seiji spoke from experience ? A personal one or because he saw alot of such cases, or maybe both ?
But either way, we never actually saw Seiji letting his guard down or having any weaknesses, not toward the Youkai at least.
You can't picture it right? the fearless merciless and powerful Matoba leader showing a weak side of him <3
But wait ..
Actually he DID show signs of weaknesses and yearing for something if you pay close attention to his reactions, wording or actions (lets not dig deeper into this or I'll break down T^T)
Let's look at the ones that's about our current subject, shall we ?
Tumblr media
In his 2nd meeting with Natsume, he was composed and calm the whole discussion except ..
Tumblr media
When this line triggered him greatly, that he went so far to prove his point of view in a harsh way for Natsume ..
Tumblr media
"They will betray you, maybe you need to go through a bitter experience to understand"
Those lines felt it's about Seiji as much as to prove his point to Natsume ..
But what did happen, who betrayed him ? A "Kind" Youkai ?? Did he thought a Youaki was treating him kindly but then it stabbed his back later on ?? Or did he treat someone kindly but it decived him and took advantage of his kindness ??
Did something ring a bell ? About Seiji saying something like he'd treat someone kindly if he ever gets the chance to ?
Tumblr media
Yup, he did say such a thing back in the past when he was a kid, in this part of the story we got two important info about Seiji :
his yearning for a Youkai to make a contract with him but he'll never get to because of his bloodline.
the fact that he's gonna be kind to whoever gonna make a contract with him and fight by his side.
That in itself was his weakness and we already know that this very desire is one of the sources that twisted him and result in the Seiji of today ..
Who took advantage of this desire of his ? It's a Youkai but he can't even make a contract with anyone so .... it's a Youkai that was with him not by contract but a deal or a promise between them mostly ...
Something else ring a bell ?
Do you know who I really think the only one who can take advantage of him and it was clear there's something between them but we really never get to know whatever happened to it afterward ..
Tumblr media
The Youkai in the pot!! It's him!! The main reason for Seiji's grudge toward the Youkai!!
What actually happened between them I know not, no more info to go that far with .. but I can't unseen it anymore!!
Especially if we return to something I already posted here, but let look at it from another angle, shall we?
Tumblr media
THIS ONE!!! DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN!!!
Natsume's line > focus on the pot > Seiji's triggered reaction
When I first read this story I though this way of putting focus on the pot was to prove Natsume's point of view or for the pot Youkai's shock by Natsume's kindness which changed his opinion later on ..
But what if that was indirect hint by Midorikawa-sensei for the real source of Seiji's deep grudge toward the Youkai ? I can see her doing such a thing that we won't understand until later on ..
So, in short that's what I have in my mind lately and been very deeply hurt and sad by it, so thought I wanna share it and see what people think of it. am I overthinking things again ? does it make no sense ? am I only making myself suffer ? MAYBE I AM BUT HEAR ME OUT!!
Just thinking that Seiji's kindness used against him in an ugly way is just ... he's not someone to show his kindness that easily so thinking that when he did so and openly this happened to him is just aaaaa STOP HURTING MY BOY HE DOESN'T DESRVE THIS !!!!
the fact that even though he was cunning, cautions and levelheaded when he was young, yet actually he was very naive and rash since I also bet no one knew about the Youkai in the pot except Natori who said he never saw that pot again ever since.
I'll shut up and leave it at that since if I keep going, I'll just keep on crying and screaming about this!! IT JUST HURTS ALOT AND BEEN CRYING ABOUT IT EVER SINCE I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS THEORY OF MINE!!!

It would be so cool if we got a scene where Haru talked to Unmei about his father. Also I really liked the idea of Unmei going to Haru's house after an argument or something just to see him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I really like the idea of Unmei being really pushy and determined about things, although he looks like a quiet and introverted person.

i was dared to ask about the phantom thief minori au in the tags...
can we have details?
(also this au seems really cool)
;; well!!! >:D (also thank you!!)
;; small warning: later on there is a mention of hospitalisation and overworking yourself to the point of hospitalisation
;; minori and mizuki are partners at the start, two silly thieves doing silly things. the two detectives on their case are haruka and an! minori and mizuki's aliases are clover and amia.
;; the main way i can describe the next bit is: phantom thief minomizu -> ??? -> profit (domestic mizuan happens)
;; minori's reasoning for becoming a thief is that if she gets enough money from the things she takes then she can use it to make the world better right? robin hood reasoning. - haruka and an did notice the odd correlation between the heists and a sudden decrease in other crime and social problems in the area. but this thinking does lead to some unintended consequences later.
;; so now minori is the only phantom thief left in the area and haruka is the one trying to work out what the heck is going on with this case
;; then later on after haruka runs in on minori escaping and they have a very quick chat, minori worries that she offended haruka. so she calls up mizuki to give her a letter who then gives it to an who gives it to haruka.
;; that then leads to minori and haruka meeting on the roof of that detective agency and having a short little talk, mainly consisting on minori saying sorry over and over. haruka offhandedly mentions that she doesn't get paid enough for this job. so she goes to the building the next morning to get another letter from minori, this time with "just over four months of good paychecks for her" in money.
;; typical phantom thief shenanigans insue then minori almost gets shot. ive not explained it but my personal belief is rui was testing out the gun in his phantom thief card and minori happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. so she falls off of a rooftop and haruka catches her. luckily she's in casual clothes otherwise that might not have ended so well.
;; after a while this is when haruka and an get to fight. so canon haruka has problems overworking herself, well. well, haruka has to be reminded by an to eat, drink and sleep. she does the first two. she has not slept in a good week and has a caffeine dependency. so her and an argue (during which haruka is a jerk about it) about the state of her wellbeing until haruka collapses in the middle of it. and this kids is why you should take care of your health!
;; in the time when haruka is recovering in hospital, minori doesn't do any sort of heist because she feels bad. she thinks that she was the reason this happend. thought she visits haruka, saying that she was thankful for her catching her when she fell off of the building. and hey here's those unintended consequences from earlier! minori gets stuck in a loop of thoughts that are basically: she thought she was helping people, only for someone to get badly hurt because of her, so was she really even helping in the first place?
;; so when haruka gets back to her normal life, an is constantly worried about her at work. minori gets word from mizuki that she's alright. so she does one heist and no one comes.
;; she does another. and no one comes. she does a third and finally haruka shows up. so minori is absolutely panicking about if haruka's okay and haruka is just mildly annoyed at the fact this case is still ongoing. minori apologises for the problems she caused for haruka. at some point part of minori's disguise (probably the mask) falls off and haruka realises that one of the people who visited her most in the hospital was the person she's been chasing for the past 7 months-ish. yeah.
;; still working out how parts of it go on from there so im just gonna copy this bit from what i said earlier: phantom thief minori -> ??? -> profit (domestic minoharu happens)
;; other plot points im working on fitting in:
- minori gets her money from selling the things she steals to miku. miku encourages theft!
- married couple shizuai, they're a thing. main museum minori keeps stealing from so haruka has to deal with them a lot. in her sleep deprived state and it's not fun for anyone.

I know no one probably cares but... what if the girl from Nostalgic Rainfall was actually Misaki’s sister shown in the Sekoi Novel?? Like, this is seriously bothering me for some time now XD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, I know there’s a low chance it’d be even confirmed, but HoneyWorks won’t have the time to debunk it either, so I’m good with this headcanon lol. Yes, they’re just both short-haired brunettes wearing a hairpin and have a thing for smart dark-haired dudes who are super oblivious to their feelings, and even if that have different eye colors, I don’t care XD.
It’s finally a concrete connection besides the fact that the Sekoi trio attended the same middle-school as most of the HoneyWorks main series characters.
Tumblr media
The only reason I think Misaki didn’t go to Sakuragaoka despite her sister being a teacher there is because she wanted to go with Tsubomi. Her sister on the other hand, only wanted Sakuragaoka because she knew Hiro would be there.
------x-----
Here’s the cute scene between Misaki and her sister in the novel:
(via @deus-ex-mona)
Standing in front of the bathroom mirror in the morning, Misaki carefully, slid a pair of scissors through her bangs.
(Alright, today’s the day that I… make them straight!)
As Misaki checked her reflection in the mirror, the door suddenly opened.
“Misaki, it’s about time…”
“Wha-!!” Misaki cut her bangs as she flinched in surprise, bits of her hair falling into the sink. She looked into the mirror in shock.
Tumblr media
“Aaaaah!!” Misaki screamed at the sight of her slanted bangs.
Her older sister walked up to her side and burst into laughter. “You’ve really done it now.”
“It’s because you suddenly called out to me!”
(Aaah, what should I do? This looks strange, doesn’t it?! I’ll definitely be laughed at, right? Even though I knew it. I knew that I’d definitely fail if I tried to do it by myself!!)
“Hey, hand it to me?”
Misaki obediently handed the scissors to her sister, who proceeded to trim her hair for her with a steady hand.
“Your pin?”
Misaki retrieved the apple hairpin that Tsubomi had given her from the pocket of her uniform and passed it to her sister. Her sister brushed some hairs off her forehead and parted her bangs a little before snapping the hairpin in
“Look at how cute you are,” Misaki’s sister patted her on the shoulder.
Misaki looked into the mirror while patting her bangs a little. “It really… doesn’t look strange?”
“No, not at all. If you’re done with it, lemme use the sink. I also have a lecture as my first period.”
At her sister’s words, Misaki cleaned up her hair with a tissue before freeing up the bathroom.
“Thank you, sis,” Misaki thanked as she left the bathroom. She saw her sister smile at her through her reflection in the mirror.
Tumblr media
I also want to mention that this may not be related to my headcanon/theory at all, but cutely enough, both music videos just give major Ao Haru vibes as well lol.  I started Ao Haru Ride because of the Sekoi song, and fell in love with it around the same time I read the Sekoi novel. It’s really funny when you consider that Misaki’s love interest, Kaname, was Kou’s counter-part in her songs and the love interest of her sister, Hiro, was definitely a doppelganger of Tanaka-sesei lol (Nostalgic Rainfall was a “what if sensei and Murao are endgame” bruh).
Believe me or not (I know that my reasons are incredibly just on the surface), but I’m taking this cute headcanon! I mean, I see Sangaku Manami and Koyuki Ayase as cousins because of the YowaPeda cameos in Kokuhaku Rival Sengen for years now lol.
