Hakuoki Yuugiroku 2 - 《Autumn Shinsengumi Sports Meet!》—— Opening Ceremony?
This translation is from 薄桜鬼 遊戯録弐 秋の新選組大運動会!which was originally published in the booklet that looks like the following image.
Tumblr media
This is probably one of my favourite misc stories... because it shows how Saito is the best boi.
No, I will not be accept any arguments to that statement. hahaha. i shalt abuse my power as a translator and focus on Saito content if anyone dares to argue otherwise (maybe. not really. who knows hahaha. perhaps i really am that petty...)!
anyway, this is the first part of this silly story... enjoy!
Hakuoki Yuugiroku 2 - 《Autumn Shinsengumi Sports Day!》—— Opening Ceremony?
Translation by KumoriYami
Autumn of book reading, autumn of appetite, and also ——the autumn of sports.
To express the joy of finally getting through the hottest season of the year, the trees in Kyoto became brightly coloured, and it formally became autumn soon after.
Looking at the members divided into two teams by red and white headbands, the chief of the Shinsengumi, Kondou Isami, made an announcement in a loud voice in a courtyard of Nishi Hongan-ji.
Kondou: "Good, everyone's here…. Then I announce that the start of the Shinsengumi Sports Meet is officially open!"
Hijikata: "Kondou-san is really something, all of a sudden he's talking about holding a sports meet… even if it's on a whim, it needs to be done in moderation."
Saito: "But Vice-Commander, I believe that this is a good opportunity to relax everyone's tense nerves after such a scorching summer."
Harada: "Furthermore, the winners get to make a wish, right? What sort of wish should I make…"
Hijikata, Saito, and Harada, who each had headbands on their heads that were as scarlet as red maple leaves, were discussing——
Heisuke: "How can you be talking as if you've already won, Sano-san! We're not going to lose to the red team!"
Souji: "By the way, Shinpat-san, have you already decided what prize you want if you win?"
Shinpachi" Of course it's going to be sake!"
Heisuke and Okita, who had pure white bandanas, like white clouds, on their heads, and also Shinpachi, responded.
Seeing how the two sides already seemed to have sparks colliding between them before the competition started, Kondou nodded with satisfaction.
Kondou "Hmhm, it seems that everyone's quite motivated, that's wonderful. Then, without further delay, let's start the first competition——"
Kazama: "——Hold a moment!"
Hijikata: "Hm?"
Kazama: "Are you saying the winner gets what they want? I heard that just now with my own ears."
Hijikata: "Do-Don't tell me this arrogant voice is…"
There was no one else who was this arrogant and spoke with such an egotistical tone, apart from a certain someone.
Hijikata and the others quickly looked around, and the sight of three people, standing with their backs to the sun, caught their eyes.
Kazama: "Hmph. With all these wild dogs gathering, I thought something was happening…"
Hijikata "Kazama and Amagiri, Shiranui... you bastards, what the hell are you doing here!"
Kazama: "What the hell are you doing here? This pack of wild dogs really aren't able to discern facial expressions to figure out the other party's intentions. Could it be that you aren't even able to see this?"
Saito: "I don't want to be told by you about not understanding someone's intentions from their body language…"
Souji: "I mean, you guys are being hindrances, so why don't get out of the way? You're being too much of a hindrance."
As Saito and Souji glared at him, Kazama paid them no attention, as if nothing had happened.
On the side, Amagiri and Shiranui sighed and took a step forward to translate Kazama's words, which had only been half-spoken.
Amagiri: "Actually that is the case. Simply put, we stopped by while scouting out nearby…"
Shiranui: "That guy Kazama was saying "Isn't this the best time to show off the gap in abilities between me and the Shinsengumi in front of my wife". What a pain."
Harada: "Hey. That's to say, you three want to participate in this sports meet?"
Heisuke: "What a joke! Why obligation do we have to compete with you guys!"
Harada scratched his head while Heisuke puffed up his cheeks.
Then Shiranui shook his head impatiently and spoke earnestly.
Shiranui: I got it, I got it. This should be fine, if we come in last, we will never approach Yukimura Chizuru again, what do you guys think?"
Kazama: "What!? Shiranui, you bastard, making such a statement without permission..."
Shiranui: "What? I mean, as long as we win, it'll be fine. Or are you saying that a certain leader of an oni clan isn't confident that they can win?"
Kazama: "Hmph, what a stupid thing to say. As if I could lose to some insignificant humans. There isn't even a one in ten thousand chance of that happening."
Amagiri: "….That's how it is. What do you all think? Everyone from the Shinsengumi. If this is how it will be, bloodshed can be avoided. I believe that this is beneficial to both sides."
Hijikata: "......A word once spoken cannot be taken back. If you lose, you won't go looking around for excuses, will you?
Kondou: "Ah, if Toshi agrees, the I won't disagree. In that case, I officially approve of your team now!"
With that, the members of the third team, the oni team joined in, and the Shinsengumi sports meet finally kicked off after a number of twists and turns before the games officially began——
---To be continued---

note to self: it's the "Hakuoki Yuugiroku Booklet story competition" in NW. (i have over 200 things in nimble writer so it's quite easy to lose track of things if they aren't labelled correctly... 😅 )

Souji's Short Story from Hakuoki Manyo Limited Edition Booklet (Translation)
Newbie + hobbyist here translating random Hakuoki stuff I came upon. This is Souji's short story in the Manyo no shou limited edition booklet.
---
Tumblr media
“So, Souji, see you later!” “Sou-san, bye-bye! Let’s play together again later!” In the twilight, the children who had just played with me waved their hands innocently and said goodbye. “Okay, see you later. Be careful on your way home.” I smiled and answered, and the children ran away energetically. (Today I also tried my best to play with everyone, I’m very happy…) But as I watched the children running away into the twilight, I felt a bit lonely. (Today I’m responsible for buying the ingredients for dinner. It’s really troublesome… If I don’t go, I’ll be scolded by Mr. Hijikata again.) To confirm what to buy, I went to find Uncle Gen. At this time, Uncle Gen was probably in the meeting room. Thinking so, I opened the door and wanted to check the situation inside. “Huh?” What came into my sight was a person who was drowsily asleep. She was probably sewing halfway through, and she still had a kimono with torn cuffs and hems in her hand. (It’s really dangerous to fall asleep like this with a needle in your hand. What if you get hurt?) It is rare that she should fall asleep in such a place. (The Shinsengumi has been very busy lately, Chizuru-chan is also busy with various chores ordered by Mr. Hijikata.) As I thought so, I quietly looked at her sleeping face. If I were in Chizuru-chan’s position, I would wake up as soon as I felt someone enter the meeting room. (You’re full of flaws… Just like this, showing a carefree sleeping face…)
While surprised that she was so lacking in vigilance, I couldn’t help but envy her past life before coming to Kyoto. She didn't have to put her life in danger as constantly as we did. “Hey~ Chizuru-chan, wake up! If Mr. Hijikata knows you’re napping here, he’ll lecture you again.” As I said so, I gently poked her face with my finger. Her cheek felt soft like mochi. Soon, her closed eyelids trembled slightly and opened a little. “…?!” She blinked a few times and seemed to gradually come to her senses. Her eyes rolled around. “Mr. Okita! This is…!” Seeing her like this, I just smiled and answered. “Good morning, Chizuru-chan. You slept very well. But this is not your room, it’s the meeting room shared by the Shinsengumi.” “I’m sorry! I…!” She apologized to me several times with a very interesting expression of confusion. She herself seemed to have no idea that her very easy-to-understand reaction would make the other Shinsengumi members, including me, want to tease her even more. “What if I told Mr. Hijikata? He might scold you ‘What are you lazy for!’ And besides, there are also people in the Shinsengumi who doubt your identity or even suspect that you are a woman.” “…I’m sorry.” Even though this was just my joke, she still apologized seriously. “It’s just a joke. I didn’t mean for you to take those words seriously. Rather than that, you have drool on your mouth corner.” “Eh–really!” Chizuru-chan hurriedly wiped her mouth corner with her finger. “That was also a joke. By the way, how long has it been since you started helping us? I hope you can feel more at home…” “Was that also a joke…” Hearing my words, she seemed very depressed and her shoulders drooped. Seeing Chizuru-chan like this, I said. “By the way, I’m going to buy the ingredients for dinner with Uncle Gen. Do you know where I can find him?” “I think he’s mostly in the kitchen. I’m also going to go with Uncle Gen. Let’s go together!” After saying that, she started to put away the sewing tools she had used into the needle box. “Is that it? Is it okay to end halfway?” “I do these chores whenever I have time. I’ll continue at night.” She said so firmly. “If you stay up late like this, you’ll nap again like before.” Chizuru-chan seemed to be stung by these words and she couldn’t help but let out a “hmm…” and then fell silent. But soon after, she raised her head and answered. “…Today I failed because I was distracted. I’ll be careful next time.” She looked at me straight in the eye and said that. “Hmm…” Although I agreed with a lack of interest, I still muttered in my heart. (If you say everything so honestly, you’ll be laughed at by people, right? But, it’s also because of this personality that it’s fun to watch you.) “Mr. Okita, what’s wrong? You look like you’re smiling. Did I say something strange?” She asked me with a bit of anxiety. But since I was asked like this, I didn’t want to answer seriously even more. “Are you still not awake? Surely everything you say is strange to me.” “That’s…! Well, specifically, what’s strange?” Chizuru-chan asked me nervously again. “So didn’t I say it’s everything you say?” I said to her lightly and walked to the kitchen with her.
That night. I woke up unexpectedly and decided to go to the kitchen for some water. I was curious about what happened during the day, so on my way back to my room, I decided to check on Chizuru-chan’s room. It was just as I had expected. There was a faint light coming from the crack of the door. She seemed to be still awake and busy with something. (Even though I reminded her that much during the day, she still did this…) My kindness seemed to be wasted, which made me a bit angry. I walked towards her room and thought. (Maybe I should remind her more sternly and make her go to bed early.) As I thought so, I suddenly stopped. (It’s not my business if she wants to stay up late… If I talk to her now, she might think I’m watching her and worrying about what happened during the day… But if she doesn’t sleep at night, will she fall asleep inadvertently again tomorrow?) As I was thinking about these things in my heart, the light in Chizuru-chan’s room went out. There was some noise at first, but soon it turned into a steady breathing of sleeping soundly. “Good night, Chizuru-chan.” I said softly and returned to my room.

How to Play Hakuoki SSL on PC
I didn’t find a straightforward guide how to play Hakuouki SSL (modern day AU game with the shinsengumi) so, here is what I did:
I: Things to download:-
1. Download the emulator. I used Vita3k.
2. Download the english translation patch.
3. Download the game. In case the webiste is not working, here is the dropbox link for a copy of the pkg file.
II. Installation:-
1. Emulator:
The emulator should be easy to set up.
Simply follow the onscreen instructions. Make sure to download and install the files it asks you to.
2. Game
1. Click File > Install .pkg on the emulator.
2. Select the game file from step I.3. Let it complete its installation as per usual.
3. It will ask for a zRIF code which is this:
KO5ifR1dQ+d7BQDtN4TaYmRpDrLf083D0TvUP9TbMzjYB2QGHnBtR+hBCb/2qy136y9KbI85PRrjgxsAAGWlFesA
paste this in the box.
Game should be ready after this step!
3. Translation Patch
1. Extract the zip file of english patch.
2. In the folder, go to ‘HakuoGakuen.Otogelib.Hakuoki_SSL_English_Patch_v1.1\PCSG00297\data‘ and copy its contents. There should be two files- ‘GAME.cpk’ and ‘SYSTEM.cpk’
3. Now go to the game data folder location. you can do so by right clicking on the game in the homescreen on the emulator.
For me, it was here ‘C:\Users\AMY\AppData\Roaming\Vita3K\Vita3K\ux0\app\PCSG00297\data‘
4. Paste the two patch files into the data folder. Click ‘replace the files’.
Done! You should be able to play the game in english now.
Note 1: quicksaving was not working for me for some reason, so make sure to make regular manual saves!
Note 2: There are a series of mini games at the end of every route and since they use a randomiser, they are not translated. It is recommended to play Okita's route first for this reason as his games are the easiest (apparently). I have never played it past the mini games on my Saito route and my sister didn't either past the Harada route. It's not undoable ofc, we just don't have the patience for it xD
Once you finish one ending, you can skip the last mini games in other routes.
Note 3: The keyboard controls I could discern so far were:
c- enter
x- back
v- menu
arrow keys to move around the menu
q- quick save
p- emulator menu screen

A: I plan to! They are fun to make and to play through. I will however not be translating Saito’s route since that one has already been translated by someone else!
Q: Will you be translating other Hakuoki games?
A: Yes! I have some short translations planned but I won’t translate an entire game since I’m still focused on working on Tenun.
Q: Do you know any Japanese?
A: I know very little Japanese, But I am currently following Japanese classes!
Q: What progremess do you use?
A: I use 3 programs for translating. EasyScreenOCR: to capture the Japanese text, Google translate and Yandex translate for wel... translating. For video's I use Wondershare Filmora.

may i ask you what u mean when you say that kodo emotionally isolated Chizuru? do you mean by not telling her of her true nature or something else? love your souji route commentary btw!!❤️
Hello anon,
I am glad your like my commentaries on Souji's route. I like making them too so at least two of us are having a nice time with them.
It is true that I must have said 3 or 4 times now that for me Kodo emotionally isolated Chizuru while raising her, without ever explaining what exactly I was referring to. So thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about this.
(However, please be aware that I haven't play the game in its entirety yet and I am playing Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi which is a ten-years-old game and far from the newest iteration that might explore the subject a bit more. So this is informed by the anime, the movies and the part of the game I have played as of today. Plus by some of the discussions I have seen in the fandom.)
Also, I am so very sorry for the long post.
When I say Kodo emotionally isolated Chizuru am I referring to him lying to her about who she is or to something else? The answer is both, or rather I think the lying and other things were tools he used to isolate her (emotionally and also physically to an extent) in order to control her easily.
First the lying. Kodo lied to Chizuru, and he lied to her constantly including on things that cannot be reframed as a safety issue for her. Let's list the extent of his lies:
Not telling Chizuru she is an oni: This could potentially be reframed as a way to protect her from a world that would hunt her down. However, Chizuru still knows she is not like other people because of her healing. She has to hide it from ´outside’ people. This means Kodo only gave her half of the truth so she can't have a full picture of herself while also being convinced the only person she can trust entirely is him.
Not telling Chizuru she is not his biological daughter: Kodo is not Chizuru's biological dad. Biologically I am not even sure who Kodo is supposed to be for her. He is part of the Yukimura clan but he is not a pure blood oni. This means that the closest he could be to her is her uncle as the half-brother of one her parents. In the movies Kaoru calls him "Kodo-ojisan" (meaning uncle Kodo) but in Japanese as a younger person you can call middle-aged man ojisan as a mark of respect that is less formal than san (Mister/Sir). The official French subtitles translate this as "M'sieur Kodo", an informal version of Mister Kodo. In the game I am pretty sure Kaoru only calls him "Kodo-san". Which would mean that Kodo is not extremely closely related to the Yukimura twins (personally in my fic I made him the (half-)uncle of their mother who was born only a few years before her so they were raised as siblings more than uncle-niece, which meant that while Kodo is Chizuru's great-uncle he actually served as an uncle figure, I love family drama and complicated family tree). What does any of this matter? Well this lie does not serve any safety or cultural properness purpose. Adoption was extremely common in Japan at the time. Kondo Isami was adopted, Inoue (Okita) Rintaro (Okita Souji's brother-in-law) was adopted by the Okita family, Ito Kashitaro was adopted, Iemochi the Shogun at the beginning of the Hakuouki game was adopted, twice!, apparently Okita Mitsu was adopted by the Kondo family too so she could marry Inoue (now Okita) Rintaro... It would not have been shocking for Kodo to present himself as Chizuru adoptive father. What he actually is, btw. Yet he preferred to lie to her and say that he is her father, period.
Not telling her she ever had a sibling: as a follow-up to lying to her about being her bio dad, Kodo never mentioned to Chizuru that she had a brother. Reminder that Chizuru was 7 when her village was destroyed which meant she could have memories of her previous life (I can't remember if this is a popular headcanon or something backed by canon but it was Kodo who altered her memory right?). Hypothetically Kodo could have told her she had a brother (without mentioning the twin thing considering the negative superstitions surrounding them) adding that he died/disappeared. This could have match with snippets of memory she might have. It might also have salvaged Kaoru and Chizuru's relationship if they ever met again (something I believe Kodo was planning) because I personally thing that what definitely broke Kaoru was his sister not recognizing nor remembering him at all.
All of this accumulate to create a picture of "it was always just me and my dad and no one else" (why would she ever think she might need anyone else?) and "my father is the only person I can really trust". This is plain bad for Chizuru's development as a person and an absolute lie.
To this, one must add other ways Kodo used to make Chizuru dependent on him alone:
While Chizuru is well-educated and has attended a dojo for a short while, she has no (let alone close) friend. She never mentioned anyone back in Edo. I know some of this come from otome protagonists being some sort of a blank page so you can project on them but if we compare her to Hoshino Ichika for exemple (from Collar x Malice), Ichika does have friends and relations outside of the main cast that date back before the plot kicks in. Chizuru does not, besides Kodo.
The inclusion of Iba Hachiro in the new games might mitigate that but from my understanding Kodo did put some distance between the two at some point.
Chizuru had no prospect of her own, no goal with her future life despite being on the brink of adult life. Was the plan for her to live with her father forever?
While Kodo seems to be well-integrated in the medical/scientific community, no one seems to really care about Chizuru. No one seemed to have actually looked for her after she disappeared from the family home and went missing. Chizuru was 16 when she left Edo! She must have more or less run her father's household (which must have make her interact with people), maybe she helped him in the clinic and her father must have been a known figure in the neighborhood at least (as a doctor)... I understand that were more than troubled times but no one cared about the missing 16 years old girl they must have interacted with regularly? Really?
As a result we see a Chizuru that is an extremely strong-willed (she travelled alone from Edo to Kyoto by foot at sixteen years old disguising her gender in the middle of a deeply trouble political time! That takes guts!) and rather intelligent girl, yet she is also quite timid and does not seem to have a point of reference on how people should treat her.
The Shinsengumi kidnaps her and holds her captive for months for being at the wrong place at the wrong time and she is not deeply resentful to them? She thinks they are "nice men" deep down?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It takes her being physically put in danger in the place she is forced to live in to go:
Tumblr media
???
She has no basis for what a sane relationship with someone should look like. She take being controlled as normal. Ironically, it is with the political militia who kidnapped her that she starts learning how to interact relatively normally with people. Because for what I think is the first time in her life since Kodo adopted her, she is allowed to interact with a multitude of people who have different opinion and act as if disagreeing with each other from time to time is normal (which it is). Hijikata gave the order for her to stay in her room? Well it is stupid order and we are not following it. Etc etc.
My thoughts about Kodo's behavior is that he raised Chizuru so she would be able to nominally be the head of Yukimura clan and his future oni/rasetsu kingdom (giving her Shotsuren, making sure she is passable with it, making sure she is educated, etc.) while making sure she could never really escape his clutches and would never even think about trying to do so.

Otomes I played in 2022
I thought I'd do some quickie reviews of otomes I've played recently such as: Hakuoki, Cupid Parasite, Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly, Sweet Fuse, Taisho Alice, Variable Barricade, Theory of Fear, Diabolik Lovers HDB and MB, Birushana, Ikemen Prince, Ikemen Vampire and Ikemen Sengoku.
Whew, I played more than I thought XD remember all this ranting is just my personal opinion.
Aight so Hakuoki:
For the most part I didn't mesh well with this one. The months in game felt pretty drawn out and slow-paced, and I didn't latch onto any of the characters except for the demons. I'm not entirely sure why. I think I just didn't feel like mc belonged there- and that she was way more invested in the Shinsengumi than they were bothered about her. I did enjoy seeing some historical events play out in Hijikata's route, and I liked seeing Kazama show up to wreck shit. Kazama was great, Kazama gave me a few months of brain rot. I did LOVE the music in this game though, dayme it was beautiful, and it goes without saying but the art style of the CGs were gorgeous. I'm glad I played this one because it's seen as a classic but I didn't personally get the hype sadly. I actually watched a playthrough of a fan-translated spin-off game (SSL) and actually PREFERRED it, despite it being just a comedy game. Whats wrong with me?
Best boy: Kazama
Tumblr media
Cupid Parasite
I remember having mixed feelings about this one, it was a mixed bag. Pretty ok! I really liked Allan's route and the voice acting was solid. Art style was interesting but it hurt my eyes after a while XD I think for me I just didn't find much of a 'replayability' factor. I enjoyed it fine, but it won't stay with me as one of the special otomes I love, capisce? I just couldn't stand Gil or Ryuki. Raul was fine and Shelby was fine, so overall it was just 'ok' for me.
Best boy: Allan. Really enjoyed Jupiters voice acting tho (from Yangs VA hehe)
Tumblr media
Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly
I remember while playing this game my friend hated its art style but man I LOVED playing this one. It felt really unique in terms of atmosphere, with mystery/suspense elements. It took me back to the earlier days of visual novels because I didn't look up a walkthrough for a bunch of this and it led to a lot of frustration and dead ends, but even that was kind of fun to figure out. Loved its twists and turns and bittersweet moments. I also loved having a voiced heroine with Beniyuri (which was one of my first experiences with the feature) and wish more heroines were voiced. Also this one had a BANGING OP, whooo! Reminded me of early 2000's nostalgia cheese, love it.
youtube
Best boy: Hikage and Yamato
Sweet Fuse: At your side
Hi um WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT THIS OTOME? Yeah I think its a bit of a lost gem but if you have a PS Vita, I totally rec buying this one. It's such a fun ride, and with a great MC to boot. The Love interests in this game were all very unusual and not typical otome pretty boyz but I really enjoyed the way they were written. The groups chemistry was great as well. The age gap thing might bother some people though so keep that in mind before playing. Anyway, the setting and plot reminded me a little of Danganronpa 2 and I had a real fun time with it.
Tumblr media
Best boy: Mitarashi
Taisho x Alice
Hooo boy people were excited for this on the otome subreddit. I sat down to try it and...
Well, I didnt think it was possible for an MC to ruin my game experience but here we are. I couldn't stand this game's heroine. Yes I understand why she was written that way, yes I enjoyed some of the guys and the end reveal was unique and impressive- but was it worth suffering through Yurika? Mn...possibly not. She seems to be somewhat divisive though and if you can stomach her 'memeing' and 'I'm not like OTHER GURLS' energy as she twirls, winks with both eyes and shouts to the world that she's SOOOO Quirky guyz- maybe you'll like this game. Thing is, even putting all...that, aside, I didn't like her attitude with Red by invading his personal space, and a certain thing she did in the last route made me incredibly uncomfortable but of course it was brushed aside bc she's the HEROINE GUYS.
Tumblr media
Best boy: Ryoushi and lil gremlin man Alice- actually while I'm here, if you can stomach the MC, Alice's VA had probably the best performance I've heard in an otome. He was hilarious- and had super great range
Variable Barricade
Boy I was super hyped for this one, it was probably my most anticipated game of the year. Great art style, great common route, great voice acting...and then the routes went on. I've noticed people seem to share the same sentiment that they usually enjoy the boys routes but then shit hits the fan and the boy is insensitive, the main heroine is too harsh or dumb- the boy LEAVES, the guy is manipulative- point is, something sours the routes and they're hard to recover from. I really liked Hibari as a heroine at first but as the routes went on I was actively wanting her to NOT be in a relationship, as she demonstrated time and again that she just wasn't ready for one. I ended up selling this game as soon as I was done with it, which I feel sad about, because I really wanted to like VB.
Tumblr media
Best boy: Taiga
Theory of Fear
I don't know why I played this game. XD I actually played a couple of 'indie' otomes like Trapped with Jester, Blooming Panic and Boyfriend to Death (the latter I wouldn't uh...call an otome...plus it awakened unpleasant revelations that I might be into some disturbing tropes so THANKS for that game. Never have I been more uncomfortable with being asked if I'd prefer a Hammer or Drill)
Anywho, Theory of Fear isn't discussed much. It's this awkward lil game with Russian voice acting you can find on Steam. Very 'this is someone's first fanfic' vibes, rife with sexual assault around every corner. Every time Yuki showed up I was like - oh boy here we go again. I found Sadaos route quite interesting in some ways though due to his way of 'fear exposure' and quite literally exposing the mc to her worst fears and mingling that with pleasure. I dunno, a twisted concept that made my brain itch in a good way. The game is bad no doubt about it and I don't rec it but I at least took something away from it. I really enjoyed Blooming Panic though and would totally rec that any day.
Tumblr media
Best boy: Sadao- look don't you JUDGE ME
Diabolik Lovers HDB and MB
In keeping with this trend of dark romance stuff that shouldn't make my brain go brrr but does is Diabolik Lovers. It's not English Translated but with the first two games in the series now on Switch, I used fan translations to play through the games and had a grand ole time. This franchise is only for people who like trash men ok. These boys are awful in every way and quite frankly you can't defend any of their abuse or actions BUT... it's fiction. And if you enjoy your fav VAs whispering degrading things in your ear, moaning and blood-sucking noises (wear headphones for these games oml) then you'll lurve this series like I do. I found myself enjoying Reiji more than I thought I would and Shuu a little less than anticipated, considering I used to love him in my earlier fandom days. Subaru remains the undisputed champ though.
Tumblr media
Best boy: Subaru
Birushana: Rising Flower of Genpei
This game was aight! Better than Hakuoki in my opinion but I know people will come for my head by saying that lmao. It wasn't a perfect game and holy hell did some battles drag on (hi Benkais route) but it really introduced some unique elements plus the best Rivals/ Enemies to lovers trope I've seen so far in otome with Noritsunes route. I recommend this game just for his route, to be honest. I thought Tomomori would be my favourite but he fell a little short for me.
Tumblr media
Best boy: Noritsune and Shigehira
Ongoing- Ikemen Prince, Ikemen Vampire and Ikemen Sengoku
I haven't finished all the routes in these mobile game otomes but yup they're my latest addiction. I'm obsessed.
I think Ikesen is my favourite of the three (I'm not touching Ikerev sorry) because of its writing being stronger in terms of just how fun and lively the world feels. Mc helps in a big way with that, and her chemistry with most of the guys is great to witness. Ikesen's menu layout is defo the worst though and could do with an update.
Ikevamp is aight, I didn't enjoy Comtes route like I thought I would and Leo made me sad but I'm loving Arthurs route, what a good boy. I have no gripes with the layout and the music is cute. I've spent the least amount of money on Ikevamp but still had a great time, which I feel is important if you want to be a free to play player. Also Faust route localisation WHEN?!
Ikepri's layout is the best no contest, everything looks super clean and stylish and the gacha systems are dangerous bc holy hell the cards look so good and pretty. Ikepri has hurt my wallet the most though and I defo feel the most pushed out of all of them to spend money. I think the writing is fine for Ikepri but oddly I enjoy the Events more the Routes themselves?? anyone else feel that way? I like it though, I just need to be stricter on myself not to get sucked into gambling because of it loll
Tumblr media
Best girl and light of my life: Ikesen's MC Mai Mizusaki.
Best ikevamp boy: Faust
Ikesen: Mitsuhide or Motonari
Ikepri: Chevalier

Piofiore: Fated Memories Review
Tumblr media
Preface: More detailed, character-specific posts are to follow (excluding the Finale and Henri routes), but here are my thoughts about the game over all.
Piofiore: Fated Memories is an Otomate game from Idea Factory, localized by Aksys Games for the Nintendo Switch.
Tumblr media
Overall Score: 8/10. I really liked the game in general, romanticized mafia is super fun! I loved the mafia premise and the thrill of illicit activities, haha. The love interests and side characters were excellent, too. The voice acting is fabulous! Two of my favorite VAs voice love interests: Showtaro Morikubo as Gilbert Redford (also voices Souji Okita in Hakuoki and Impey Barbicane in Code Realize) and Ryohei Kimura as Nicola Francesca (voices Kageyuki Shiriashi from Collar x Malice). Even fell in love with the voice acting of a new guy--Nobuhiko Okamoto as Yang (also does a side character's voice in Collar x Malice).
What I was not expecting was the somewhat heavy emphasis on Christianity and religion. That makes it sound a little more intense than I mean, but considering I wasn't expecting it at all, well. It wasn't the way one might expect, but it was enough that it was completely out of left field when I was expecting, you know, mafia. Honestly, had I known it wasn't just straight mafia, I might not have bought the game, but it was easy enough for me to ignore most of the time. There were some very--I mean very--minor translation issues, mainly typos, but it was good overall.
Tumblr media
Heroine: 6/10. To start with, my opinion of the Heroine varied depending on the route. She was my favorite in Gilbert's route, and I liked her enough in Yang's, but she was kind of pitiful in the other three (not including the Finale/Henri endings; admittedly, I didn't read the Finale). Frankly, I found myself annoyed at her most of the time. It's annoying when a character that's meant to represent the reader, as a general rule, does, says, and thinks things that I never would. She has decent points at least once in most of the routes, but especially in the beginning of each route, she's so naive it makes me want to throw up. There are in-game reasons for why this is, so I understand it, but I still dislike it.
By the end of each route, she comes to terms with the fact that she's fallen in love with an incredibly dangerous man and gets over the fact that she's inadvertently complicit in organized crime, but the road to this acceptance long and annoying. At the end of it all, she's still a bleeding heart. Not that I really thought that would change, but still. Progress.
I'm just bored to death of many otome MCs' main (and often only) strength being strength of will and/or character. Mental and emotional toughness are good, but could the MC also be useful and have more interesting qualities? Just once, I'd love to play a badass MC, who's a bit hardened, not a bleeding heart, and isn't shocked by the sight of blood... Yeesh...
Tumblr media
Narrative: As it typical of these console games, the plot caries slightly from route to route, though there is an overarching plot. Without giving too much away, MC is Special™, and that comes out/is relevant in only 3/6 routes. All of the routes were well written, though I didn't find all of them that interesting. The overarching plot bored me to tears. I just wasn't into it. In a world of what I assumed was just your standard period mafia piece, there was a lot of weird mysticism and Christian mythology. There's not magic or anything like that, but there are sacred relics that can only be retrieved from their super secret locations with specific "ingredients," if you will. MC has one of those ingredients, and in a game where it really advertises the mafia (that's literal the entire pitch of the game, there's no mention of anything else on the game case), it feels very out of place.
I can tell they were trying to do something different with the mafia premise, and I commend the writers for that, but I think it fell a little flat. I found myself enjoying the routes where there was more of those organized crime attributes--smuggling, drug and arms dealing, counterfeiting, etc.--most, while the routes that heavily focused on MC's specialness were a slog to get through. Of course, this is my own personal opinion, so others may feel very differently. Despite that, I truly enjoyed the game and can't wait to play the sequel!
Tumblr media
Love Interests: I adore these characters, period. They're all very unique and interesting, even if a few weren't my type. There are technically six love interests: Nicola Francesca, Dante Falzone, Yang, Gilbert Redford, Orlok, and Henri. Gilbert is locked until you completed Nicola, Yang, Dante, and Orlok's routes, and the Finale/Henri is locked until you complete Gil's. You don't get a feel for who Henri is at all until you play the Finale route, so I personally didn't care for him. I had no vested interest in him, so full disclosure, I mostly skipped his route...
The other characters were wonderfully varied, so I think there's a personality type to suit nearly everyone. I can honestly say that, although not all of them are for me, I can pick out a quality I like in all of them. Dante is the kuudere of the guys; Gilbert is gallant and chivalrous; Yang is selfish and craves violence (in the best way, though); Nicola is a flirt; and Orlok is the quiet, shy one. Henri is mysterious, though not in an interesting way for me, personally.
Tumblr media
Game Mechanics: The "Status" page is difficult to understand, especially when you first start playing and have no idea what you're looking at. I had to look up how to interpret the status of the character. The more colorful the flower on the status page is, the higher the affection, and the clearer the page (in this case, how much blood spatter is visible) is related to the tolerance level. So, full-color flower and no blood spatters are very good.
I also don't love the Meanwhile side stories. While you're plaything through every story, periodically you'll get a pop-up that is sometimes automatic, sometimes optional, that takes you to a different perspective--something that's going on at the same time as the main story. I like the idea in theory, but it sometimes felt like they came at inopportune times and broke the story flow.
Tumblr media
Music & Art Style: The music is jaunty and fun, very 1920s jazz, screams mafia, too. If that makes sense. If you decide to play it, you'll see what I mean. The art style is beautiful! It looks very similar to, if not outright the same as, Hakuoki: Tales of the Shinsengumi/Kyoto Winds/Edo Blossoms. Since that's the game that started my love affair with these types of games, I love that it looks so similar. The CGs are gorgeous and worth collecting all of them, so 100-percenting the game is worth it. Some of them get pretty hot, too, like aaahhhhh. So 10/10 on the art!

Question: Which source did you get one of Shuten Dōji's associates being called "Rasetsu" from? I'm trying to find more on that but I'm not having any luck- the results I'm getting are Shuten Doji in general, Nioh, something called Hakuoki, and your blog post on Shuten Dōji. I know you have a bibliography but I'm not sure which ones would have the relevant information. Thank you very much for your work!
An early Edo period version translated in Monsters, Animals, and Other Worlds. A Collection of Short Medieval Japanese Tales (the passage in mention is on p. 42). It's the first result when you search for "Gogō, Kiriō, Ahō, and Rasetsu".

Hello! I just wanted to say thank you for your hard work in translating Hakuoki FDs ^^. I am grateful that I'll be able to have more Hakuoki contents that I otherwise wont be able to enjoy because of language barrier
This might be a pipedream but I really, really hope they'll localize the fandisk one day. I know that people complain about too much Hakuoki but we literally only have the original game and their ports in eng and not any of the FD materials!
That aside, I am curious about how would you rank the Hakuoki guys from your most favorite to least favorite? Saito seems to be a favorite of yours (great taste btw :D)
Hi ! Thanks for your support in my little youtube channel !
I really hope they localize the fandisks too ! Even if it will put me out of work hahaha, but since I do this for fun, I don’t mind !
I will get my copy of Ten’un no Shou some time this year so I still have a lot of work ahead of me ! If they localize the video games, I will have more time for my other projects (the R18 Hakuouki fangames and the doujinshi hakuouki mangas)
About rating, it’s something I do every year just for me and it’s funny to see that my tastes and opinions change over time 🤷‍♀️ also I have two ratings, one for my favorites and one for Chizuru. I will give my rating for favorite in this ask.
My 2022 one would be… Saito, Kazama, Hijikata, Ryouma, Souma, Heisuke, Yamazaki, Sannan, Okita, Nagakura, Harada, Iba.
When I started getting invested in the game (2018 I think ? I’m a late comer to the Hakuouki fandom) it was more
Saito, Ryouma, Souma, Sannan, Heisuke, Okita, Kazama, Nagakura, Yamazaki, Harada, Hijikata, Iba.
It’s funny to see how some of my opinions changed with some fandisks, replaying, or other media like fanfictions or doujinshi manga. Probably that list will be outdated next year since it will change again ! But one thing that will never change : Saito is ma boi.

Hakuoki Shinkai Tenun no Shou Stellaworth Booklet “Her Long Day” Part 6
Translation by KumoriYami
Chǒushí · Kazama Moment 《1~3 o'clock》
It was 3 o'clock, the time when all plants slept, and when the gates of the underworld [I guess?] were open.
If things were as usual, I would have fallen asleep long ago…
Unfortunately, today I woke up, perhaps from hearing the sound of insects.
"……Huh……?"
As I huddled under my blanket, I heard something outside… a minute sound.
The chirping of insects was wrapped in the sound of the wind and the sound of footsteps on gravel.
...Was that the sound of a cat or dog walking by…?
I lifted up my groggy head head, and opened the door a finger-wide crack, and looked outside——
"——I didn't think you'd be awake at this time."
"……Eh?"
"Could it be those watch dogs are forcing you to work day and night?"
"……!"
My weary mind immediately cleared up, and my eyes widened.
Standing there was the one who had repeatedly crossed swords with the Shinsengumi and declared that he was going to take me away—.
"Kazama-san——"
"——Be quiet."
"Wah!?"
Just as the yell was about to leave my throat, my mouth was covered, and I could only desperately twist my body.
But Kazama-san's arm was like it was made of stone, and I couldn't pull away at all.
"It's useless, although female oni have powerful/strong vitality, their strength cannot be compared to that of a male oni."
"Uh——"
"……Listen, just stay quiet. As long as you promise not to yell, I will let you go."
I did my best to nod, and to my surprise, Kazama-san really did let me go."
"Why are you come here at this time? Could it be that you wanted to take advantage of how everyone's asleep..."
"That's ridiculous. Do you think that I'm the sort of vulgar man who would attack a woman at night?"
“……”
What happened just now, I did really feel that this was similar to being attacked…. I always felt there was a sense of incredulity with this, so I asked again.
"….Then why did you come here? It doesn't seem like you've answered my question yet..."
"……This flower/These flowers."
Kazama-san hesitated for a moment and handed me a flower.
"This is… a sunflower/These are... sunflowers…?"
"That's right. Early this morning, beautiful sunflowers bloomed in the garden of a house in the Satsuma Domain, and since I thought it'd be a waste if only I admired them. Thinking that, I involuntarily thought of your face. You are surrounded by a group of insensitive men all day long, and have no opportunities to see such beautiful flowers."
"Um......"
If Kazama-san's words were true, he really came just to send me this flower/these flowers…
"…….Even if you say that, with you suddenly coming here, I can't believe it…"
"Why suddenly? Is there something strange about a husband who treasures his wife giving her flowers?"
"——Wife?"
"Of course, you are my wife."
…………As expected, I couldn't communicate with this person. Kazama-san slowly extend his hand towards me, who was at a complete loss for words.
"Of course, if you want me to take you away right now, isn't that another matter?"
"I don't....!"
I trembled and hurriedly took a step back.
Kazama-san's hand abruptly stopped.
".......?"
"Hmph… Who would have thought that there would be a watchdog awake at this time."
Kazama-san sighed, turned around, and then disappeared into the darkness.
"——Let's meet again someday in the future. Next time, it will have to be in a place where no one will disturb us."
Yinshi · Sannan Moment 《3~5 o'clock》
——At that moment, a voice came from the depths of headquarters.
"——Apparently an uninvited guest came?"
"Ah…… Sannan-san……!!"
"——Oya. To go as far as to intrude at this time, how truly careless."
Sannan-san looked in the direction Kazama-san disappeared in and lowered the hand he had on his sword.
At the same time, I collapsed to the ground, as if the ties around had me had been unraveled.
"……Fu……"
"It's alright, Yukimura-kun. Did you get injured?"
"Nn. I'm okay. Thank you……"
I sat paralyzed on the ground and looked up at Sannan-san,, and noticed tha tmy hands were shaking.
Although he was joking about that bitter experience, it really could have been quite dangerous.
——If Sannan-san hadn't come, what would have happened?"
While I trembled as I imagined that, Sannan-san, he——
"……Forgive me/I apologise."
He took hold of my hand, and slowly pulled me so I could stand up, then he wrapped both of his hands around my hands.
"——As expect you're terrified, your hands are still shaking now."
"……Yes. As soon as I thought that I was saved, all the fear came bursting forth……"
"I'm sorry. If I was able to notice a bit sooner, you wouldn't have been so scared."
"N-No, it's not Sannan-san's fault! You saved me…"
"……Hehe. Yes. At least the worse was avoided."
Sannan-san urged me to sit down, and the two of us sat by side in the corridor.
Even though my body was still shaking now, he smiled.
"It's alright, I'll sit with you here and accompany you until you calm down."
"……"
"Apparently, I'm meddling——"
"No….. if Sannan-san doesn't mind…. please."
Perhaps my words went against his expectations, so Sannan-san's eyes wiedened, and he was speechless.
".......Are your words sincere?"
"Nn... is that no good....."
".......You aren't afraid of me even though I've become a rasetsu?"
Sannan-san gazed into my eyes, and I laughed/smiled.
"......I think that genuinely scary people wouldn't say that sort of thing. Although it's true that Sannan-san hasbecome a rasetsu……."
"……But?"
"But, I think that your heart is the same as it was before."
Actually, until just now, Sannan-san had been saying consoling words to me,…. .
"......Oya. After hearing such adorable words, I can't do anything bad now."
Sannan-san stroked my head, as if to say that he had surrendered.
"Then… until you can peacefully fall asleep…"
Afterwards, Chizuru's moment
—Then, after that—
Sannan-san stayed and chatted with me until the sky faintly became green.
I completely calmed down and returned to my room as well.
"Today… I should say yesterday, a lot of things happened from morning until night……."
I got under the blankets again, and what happened all day long began to gradually resurfaced in my mind again.
"Waking up early, seeing Souma-kun, cooking together with Heisuke-kun…… going on patrol……"
If I fall asleep now, I didn't know if I'll be able to sleep before daybreak.
"......In the middle of the night, Kazama-san came over for some reason…. then… Ah, Hijikata-san…. I don't know if he'w awake after that…"
Incredibly, as soon as I was covered with the blanket, I immediately felt drowsy. Tired to the point where I couldn't resist.
"……"
With my narrowing field of vision, between the gaps of dreams of reality, I mumbled to myself.
"……Tomorrow too…… I'll work hard……"
Until I was woken up again shortly after by the sound of birds, a new day was about to start again. I finally slept peacefully again so I could get a moment's rest——.

Yamazaki's Short Story from Hakuoki Manyo no Shou Limited Edition Booklet (Translation)
This story is sooo cute that I got to translate it. I often wondered if Yamazaki and Chizuru are of the same MBTI type. The two of them are just perfect together.
Tumblr media
(As for the Chinese herbal medicine, it seems that there is no need to buy more for the time being… The problem is the tools and medicines used for treating wounds and Western medicine…)
I am completely ignorant about the tools and medicines for medical arts and Western medicine. I have no choice but to consult with Yukimura-kun.
As I was thinking about these things, I looked for Yukimura-kun, but I couldn’t find her.
When I went out to the courtyard, I saw Shimada, who was about to go somewhere, so I called out to him.
“Shimada-kun, have you seen Yukimura-kun? I have something to ask her.”
“Oh, Yamazaki-kun. I saw Yukimura-kun hanging kimonos in the courtyard.”
“The courtyard, huh? Thanks.”
I thanked Shimada-kun and hurried to the courtyard.
As Shimada-kun said, Yukimura-kun was in the courtyard, hanging kimonos.
“Yukimura-kun.”
When I called out to her, she quietly turned around.
“Ah, Yamazaki-san, hello.”
“Are you hanging kimonos?”
“Yes, it’s almost the season to change clothes. I want the other Shinsengumi members to wear them comfortably.”
“…I see.”
It is said that women tend to notice the details more than men, and I strongly feel that when I look at Yukimura-kun.
(I also pride myself on being attentive, and I often receive compliments from the Vice-Commander, but still I can’t match Yukimura-kun.)
As I was thinking about that–
“So, Yamazaki-san, do you have something for me?”
I came to my senses when Yukimura-kun asked me.
“Ah. Actually–”
I asked Yukimura-kun for advice on buying medical tools and Western medicines.
“…So, if there is anything missing, I thought I would buy it on the way.”
“I understand. I will check our backlog as soon as I finish this.”
Yukimura-kun said so and tried to resume her work.
“I’ll help you. It will be faster if we do it together.”
“But… are you sure? Yamazaki-san, don’t you have other work to do?”
“It’s not that I don’t, but it’s not so urgent that I have to do it right now. Besides, it would be better if you come with me for shopping. And we might be able to find Koudou-san on the way.”
“Yamazaki-san…”
Yukimura-kun looked at me with a grateful expression…
(When I’m looked at like this, I feel… uneasy. I know she doesn’t have any ulterior motives, but still…)
She bowed her head, expressing her gratitude.
“Thank you for your kindness. I’ll take your word and go with you.”
“Don’t mention it. After all, we are the ones who are forcing you to live in inconvenience. Rather than that, let’s finish this quickly. You also would like a bit more time looking for Koudou-san, don’t you?”
“Yes, I understand–”
The moment she finished speaking, a small yawn escaped from her mouth.
“Ah… I’m sorry! I was up late last night.”
She apologized, looking away in embarrassment.
 “Didn’t you sleep well?”
“I was reading the book on Eastern medicine that you lent me the other day.”
“…You don’t have to rush to read it. I told you that you can return it anytime when I lent it to you.”
“That’s true, but…”
“If you’re sleepy and tired–”
I was about to suggest canceling today’s outing, but I stopped myself.
For Yukimura-kun, who was allowed to go out alone, she couldn’t miss the opportunity to look for Koudou-san.
“You should take a nap over there. I’ll take care of the clothes.”
 “That’s-- too much!”
Yukimura-kun immediately refused my offer…
“If you go out with me like this, it will be more troublesome if you collapse on the way. Just follow what I said.”
She showed a sad expression on her face.
“You’re right. I’m sorry.”
“No, I didn’t mean to blame you… Sorry, I chose my words poorly.”
“No, it’s not like that…”
Seeing Yukimura-kun’s expression become more depressed, I regretted my earlier mistake.
“I know very well that you’re working hard for the Shinsengumi. It won’t hurt to take a nap. I’ll call you when I’m done, so rest over there.”
I secretly worried that she would take my words in a bad way again, and waited for her reply.
A smile finally appeared on her lips.
“I understand. Then I’ll take your word and rest for a while. Thank you always, Yamazaki-san.”
She bowed her head slightly and sat down on a bench nearby. She closed her eyes and began to doze off.
(I didn’t do anything worth thanking me for. What is it… How nice is she?)
I thought so, but I felt relieved by talking to her.
(She’s good at medicine, of course, but maybe she also has the power to heal broken hearts without knowing it.)
I thought so as I started working on the clothes that I took over from Yukimura-kun (somewhat forcibly).
Before long– I was in trouble after I finished hanging all the kimonos.
The problem was when to call out to her and wake her up.
Probably, if I call out to her now, it would be too short a time to be called a nap.
But if I go and do other work and then wake her up, it might be too late.
But more than that, I can’t leave Yukimura-kun sleeping here.
(Well, what should I do…)
I was thinking about these things as I stood next to her.
When I am looking at Yukimura-kun sleeping defenselessly, I feel somewhat sorry to wake her up.
Or rather, I feel like I want to keep looking at her like this——.
As I dwelled on these thoughts, a gust of wind began to blow.
“Hmm… Ah… Um, how long have I been sleeping? The kimonos?”
Yukimura-kun woke up and asked me, looking around at me and the surroundings.
“O-oh, I’m glad you’re awake. I finished hanging the kimonos and was about to wake you up.”
“Is… is that so… I’m sorry. I really left it all to you.”
“Don’t worry about it. Come on, get ready to go out.”
“…Yes!”
She left a cheerful reply and went away.
As I watched her back, I wish I could have seen her sleeping face a little longer…

Neo’s RP HISTORY
The rules are simple! Post characters you’d like to roleplay as, have roleplayed as, and might bring back. Then, tag ten people to do the same ( if you can’t think of ten, just write down however many you can and tag that number of people ). Please repost, don’t reblog!
CURRENT MUSE/S (including those I haven't closed officially):
Canon muses: Haru Miura (KHR), Hibari Kyouya (KHR), Kyoko Sasagawa (Kyoko), Lambo Bovino (KHR), Daemon Spade (KHR), Fon (KHR), Shugarl (Defense Devil), Ponsol (Defense Devil), Jupiter (Defense Devil), Mizumachi Kengo (Eyeshield 21), Dongmin Ahn (Transfer Student Storm Bringer), and Sesshomaru (Inuyasha).
OCs: Ravein Twine (Mostly in KHR Verse), Pino Rossi (KHR oc), Alistair Stalkin (fandomless- vampire lord of next oc), Wilfred B. Carroe (Fandomless, butler), Fiore Rossi (KHR first gen OC, yes I like the last name Rossi. Sue me lol)), and Miho Gu (A kitsune oc who... ugh... I still haven't officially opened up yet bc... yeah... lazy... and scared ig)). I technically have 20 OCs on another blog-- though I mostly made it for me to throw information into whenever I felt like it. I wasn't that serious about it being a RP blog. Consider those half a point. Oh, also Noriko Narita (forum RP oc for Eyeshield 21)... and... ehehe;;; Lotella Shabondama (forum rp ... One Piece eheheheheheeheheh) NPCs but not actually requestable: Kazehime (Inuyasha), Tamako (Inuyasha), Hebisuke (Inuyasha), Kazumi (Inuyasha), Kaze no Tsuki (Inuyasha), Kii (Inuyasha), Kazuha (Inuyasha), Goro (Inuyasha), Popo (Technically Inuyasha), Sai (Inuyasha, Rocco (KHR), Leonard (KHR), Lorenzo (KHR), Luna (KHR), Akihiko (KHR), Hanako (KHR), Sayuri (KHR), Kazuyuki (KHR), Yumi (KHR), Shohei (KHR), Camilla (KHR), Hanako (KHR), Eiko (KHR), Kenichi (KHR), Toshiro (KHR), and Carmello Rossi (KHR). Roberto (Associated with Ravein, so he's mostly fandomless). There are more NPC muses but i'm too lazy now to list even more.
WANT  TO  WRITE  (but  never  will):
I considered Yamamoto Takeshi, Gokudera Hayato, Xanxus, Cervello, Nana, Alaude, from KHR and then for one reason or another said no. I considered Natsume Takashi from 'Natsume Yuujinchou'. I almost considered virtually the entire cast of the 'Trash of the Count's Family' but managed to say no. Too much work. I did consider Huang Shaotian from 'The Kings Avatar' but said no bc lololol i'm not a gamer, this would be very difficult for me. I love his energy though. I probably forgot who else.
HAVE WRITTEN:
Heroman Vasco from 'Lookism', Tarras Doberg from 'Witch Hunter/Buster', Mako Jun (Deviantart RP group OC). So many more... let's see who I can remember! I remember a Gintama OC Mio... Chiaki, maybe? There was another Gintama OC Kyoko... don't remember the last name, Ayame Toriumi (Prince of Tennis oc), a Hakuoki oc named Hotaru, a Heart no Kuni no Alice OC Tamantha. There was also a Yu Yu Hakusho Demon OC named Kira. All of these were from my forum days. There are more... but I don't remember the names anymore. For trivia, I don't remember names, but there was an OC for Saiyuki Reload. There was another One piece OC. I also had an Ouran Highschool host club OC... maybe two of them. There were two Naruto OCs. Had an OC for Soul Eater. That's all that comes to mind now.
WOULD WRITE AGAIN:
The Forum OCs are retired and I probably won't ever write them again. Mako Jun, I'd probably have to brush up on every now and again when the mam of his husband Atlas pops in to chat. (Every few years kekw) We just chat about how we miss the DA RP group and how things are going. She still rp's on DA a lil bit but now RP as their kids! Other than that, if I retired a muse officially, I had reasons for it. The only one I'd write again would be Tarras if we finally got someone who would pick up translations again and we finally got his backstory.

Some recommended websites that list and review ENGLISH Otome games:
https://www.englishotomegames.net/list (super comprehensive list. I love going here to check out if I might have missed something. They even list out RPGs that have Otome/Romance elements like Persona 3)
https://otomekitten.com/2020/05/06/otome-games-in-nintendo-switch-english/ (My go to for walkthroughs but also does good reviews. Read with caution though cause it will definitely have spoilers.)
https://store.aksysgames.com/collections/otome (Aksys games is one of the companies that “localize” or translate Otome games to English. A lot of their work is wonderful. I just randomly visit this page to see if there’s anything they’re about to release. Nothing that interesting here. Idea Factory is also another company that localize games, but their website doesn’t feature Otome games, so I’m skipping it.)
Otome Games that I’ve played (You can ask me/message me about them just to discuss, fangirl or whatnot!) (Favourites are marked with *)
Switch
Collar x Malice series* (2 Versions)
Code: Realize series (They have several versions)
Piofiore*
Cafe Enchante
Ikemen Sengoku
Steam (PC)
There are a lot of Otome games on Steam. The issue is about quality.
Amnesia: Memories*
Ozmafia*
Our Life: Beginnings & Always* (Not really an otome game. What makes an otome game an otome game is that the MC is usually female. This game however is LGBTQ friendly and the MC is gender neutral/however you want to make them. Really interesting. Lots of dialogue and nice story. Lots of choices.)
Nightshade
PSVita
Bad Apple Wars*
Period Cube*
Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly
Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk
Hakuoki series (Has several versions)
7′Scarlet
Nintendo DS/3DS (a LONG time ago)
Tokimeki Memorial Series* (The OG that got me into Otome Games. It was in JAPANESE but there were some talented FANS who translated it into English and I was able to patch and play the game in English. What Godsends.)
Other game genres I’ve played that has romancing/otome elements
Fire Emblem Series*
Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons*
Persona Series*
Obey Me!*
Inuyasha: The Secret of the Cursed Mask (PS2) (Yes, this Inuyasha game had romance elements. You could romance/build a relationship with ALL the characters from Kagome all the way to Naraku.)
Summon Night 5 (PSVita)
Rune Factory (never actually played this but it’s pretty popular)

My Thoughts on Diabolik Lovers English Dub
Reviewer: Luminosity
Ok, not everyone likes English Dub for every anime. Some like a couple of reverse harem anime like Brothers conflict or Hakuouki. It kinda sounds bad, when you are used to the Japanese version of it. There are some good ones like death note or Inuyasha. But I think the dub for Diabolik Lovers sounds decent enough, and not that cringe-worthy when they speak. The first anime I watched was Diabolik Lovers episode one in English dub. I don’t know why I have encountered that as my first anime, but I loved it. When I watched the Japanese dub, it felt different. Now as a Diabolik Lovers fan, I now notice the appeal in the Japanese Dub. The English Dub will always have a special place in my heart. So let’s have a look, shall we?
Yui Komori
I have nothing to really say in Yui’s voice. Her voice is left ambiguous to me. It’s hard to picture what Yui really sounds like even though she has voice actors that speak Japanese and one that speaks English. I kinda expect something like a shy voice, but then I remember Yui is not shy. So, I guess something that is sweet and strong will at the same time. The only problem I might have is all that moaning in the bite scenes. (hand palm on forehead) I feel like it might be mistaken as an ecchi anime, but it’s not. How ironic. Aside from all that, she can make cute noises. It was in season 2. There was a scene where Reiji called Yui to see if she had information about the Mukami, but she couldn’t really remember. After that, she made a cute noise about what she wanted to say. When I heard that, I immediately thought it was cute. There was another time when Yui’s voice actually changed. In season 1, Cordelia possessed her, and that caused her to change her voice. It sounds like Cordelia. Every time would hear when Cordelia possessed her, I would literally think that this is not the same voice actor. The tone doesn’t sound like Yui, and it would throw me off if Cordelia is speaking or Yui’s evil version of herself is. Overall, I think her voice was okay and decent. (Fun fact: her voice actor played as the Heroine in Amnesia.)
Ayato Sakamaki
I actually like Ayato’s voice here. It sounded much younger, arrogant, and almost like a high schooler. I say almost because it’s hard to picture anime boys as high schoolers. They are voiced by adult men and that’s not what all boys sound like. Back on the topic, I tried watching the Japanese dub after the English dub, and gosh it sounded so different. In the Japanese dub, the voice was much deeper. I wasn’t used to it back then. Ayato usually calls himself oresama and called Yui chichinashi. In the English Dub, he actually called himself “Yours Truly” and Yui as “Pancake.” Both words have similar meanings, but not the literal translation. I felt like the English Dub gave it more a small comedic touch to it. It’s funny how he says it. (Fun Fact: Ayato’s Voice Actor played Oikawa from Haikyuu)
Kanato Sakamaki
Kanato’s voice changed a lot. It went from cute creepy to psycho creepy. Do you know the part where Kanato laughs when he just incinerated his mother? Yeah, you can actually tell right away that boy is not normal. I am not bothered by it that much. Sometimes, I would get confused if Kanato is speaking or Ayato. If you watch the first episode of season one or season two, you find a scene where Ayato and Kanato are talking after the other. It took me a minute to see who was actually was speaking. As much as I like Kanato’s speaking voice, he didn’t really sing well in the English dub. It felt off-tune, and it was bad. I am actually laughing right now at how bad it sounds. Kanato’s voice actor did a good job of making this character more creepy than ever. Here is a sample of Kanato singing its English dub. (Fun Fact: his voice actor played Kazama Chikage in Hakuoki)
Laito Sakamaki
No matter who voices Laito, he would always send a shiver down my spine. (not really in a good kind of way) His voice actor did a pretty good job of sounding like a playboy. Laito had some funny lines here and there. He would say “Don’t Worry, Little B****. Every time he would punch a wall, it means that he actually cares” or “Would you like to join us?” I don’t think he actually used the deep voice on the school rooftop scene. In the Japanese Dub, it was actually scary when Laito actually used his deep voice. I would be terrified if I encountered him being all mad. It would be very effective if he did. In the end, I would give a round of applause to Laito’s Voice Actor. (Fun Fact: Laito’s voice actor actually voiced Souji Okita in Hakuouki)
Shu Sakamaki
I know for sure Shu’s voice will always make girls blush really hard. His voice was deep and it had a lazy tone to it. I think it had a nice touch to signify that he’s older than his brothers and more mature. He didn’t really have lots of screen time, but I love the scene where he was first introduced. When he spoke, I thought his voice would be perfect for an ASMR video. LOL. I then will blush harder when his bites scenes will come up. No wonder girls would like him. (Fun Fact: his voice actor plays Kuroo in Haikyuu)
Reiji Sakamaki
We have Reiji who speaks in a low voice just like Shu. I guess it signifies that he’s older and more mature than his brothers. His voice sounds more proper and probably more intimidating than Shu. That’s where it fits his character in a way. He’s like the housekeeper of the mansion. Reiji wouldn’t want trouble and come in as strict. There are times when I think his voice gets raspy sometimes. But, this whole two seasons, he really knows how to roast someone. You can almost hear it in every episode he appears on. My favorite scene of him is the part is when Kanato I believe asked him why he called them here. He said, “Well if it wasn’t for your scintillating conversation. This is why I like English Dub. (Fun Fact: Reiji’s Voice actor have played Mutsumi Asuma in Kiss Him, Not Me.)
Subaru Sakamaki
Subaru’s voice is just perfect for me. I don’t why, but I love his English version and the Japanese version. I know this sounds very biased, but it’s true. Even though the tone of voice has a huge difference, I don’t care. Again, I wasn’t used to his Japanese voice actor back then. He won me a couple of times with his bite scene with Yui in season one, and his memory with his mother. I like how in the English dub, he raises his voice to signify his violence in episode one. It definitely sounded louder than the original. I would give a point to Subaru for making his voice sound younger than Ayato’s voice. It would kinda sound weird if he was paired with an English voice that was deeper like Reiji or Shu. (Fun Fact: his voice actor was played Azusa in Brothers Conflict)
Cordelia
We have a voice that seems fitting to Cordelia. It definitely sounded seductive and mature at the same time. Cordelia didn’t appear much, so I didn’t see her speak a lot. I won’t really say a lot on the topic. I do remember some of the roles she played that weren’t as a villainess. Interestingly, she played something like this. (Fun Fact: she had the same voice as Misaki from Kaichou Maid Sama)
Richter
Again, he didn’t really appear much, so I won’t really have a lot to say. His voice was decent. There wasn’t anything negative or positive to it. (Fun fact: he shares the same voice actor as Todoroki from My Hero Academia.)
Beatrix
I would say the same thing as I did with Richter. Her voice was calm and collected. Her voice actor did a good job voicing. I actually like her voice more than the other mothers. (Fun Fact: she voiced Felicita from Arcana Famigila)
Christa
Christa’s voice kinda made me tear up because the scene was too emotional. The voice did a good job of acting it all out. I wonder if it will be weird if she started talking with the voice. It’s hard to imagine because the scene in that I mention Christa’s mouth wasn’t moving. (Fun Fact: she played Chizuru Yukimura in Hakuouki)
Season 2
(I just want to point out that in season two they cussed a lot and started to add Kun and san at the end of names. I don’t why they started in season 2, but I prefer if they didn’t add it.)
Ruki Mukami
I like how Ruki’s voice is not that deep even though he is the eldest. I can sense some emotion in each scene, unlike the Japanese version. I don’t if it’s just me, but he talks in a monotone voice all the time. I like how in the English Dub, they changed the wording to sound a bit better. You know the scene where Ruki and Yui had the sweet moment. I prefer it in English Dub in that one. Ruki’s voice actor gave me an interesting part to him. (Fun Fact: he voiced Sugawara koushi from Haikuu)
Kou Mukami
I am not really a fan of guys who sounds so animated. Kou’s voice I think has the highest pitch. I guess it suits him being all happy-go-lucky, but it’s not my type. I kinda find it annoying sometimes. I actually prefer his Japanese voice actor to the English. (Fun Fact: His Voice Actor played Yuzuriha Kanade from Anonymous Noise)
Yuma Mukami
I felt like the producer was trying to find a voice actor that has the deepest voice to such a tall person. Yuma’s voice is at the same vocal range as Shu or Reiji. I kinda cringe when he always says “Little piggy.” No one actually says that to a girl, so I think it doesn’t work with me. I do want to compliment him with his sarcasm. Reiji is my top when it comes to sarcasm in this show. Shu, I kinda feel bad for you getting insults a lot. RIP (Fun Fact: Yuma’s voice actor played other roles like Dante from Arcana Famiglia)
Azusa Mukami
I like the direction the voice actor was taking for Azusa. His vocal range was a little higher than the original. It works for me as it works for him. Every time he speaks, it can sound cute. I don’t really sense any malice in him. He’s definitely a keeper. My favorite scene of him is in the last episode. (Fun fact: he also voiced Kaoru from Ouran High School Host Club)
Carla Tsukinami
Hands down, this guy has the deepest voice in the DL franchise. I could have mistaken him as an adult. Gosh, why? His original voice actor is the same, so it won’t really help a lot. As expected, this guy sounds evil and intimidating. (Fun Fact: His voice actor played Former King in No Game No Life)
Shin Tsukinami
This guy and Carla didn’t have enough screen time. I don’t really have many things to say about him. If he had more scenes or better a season 3, then I might have said more about him. (Fun Fact: Shin’s voice actor played Shin from Amnesia)
Karlheinz
His voice sounds more like a narrator than a character. He didn’t appear in any scenes where he has a conversation with someone. I am a bit disappointed that he only talked in episode one and episode two in the second season. This guy should appear at the end, and make an official appearance to signify that he’s the true baddie. (Fun fact: his voice actor played Undertaker from Black Butler)
