Harminder Sahib or Darbar Sahib, a gurudwara located in Amritsar, Punjab, India. This is spiritually the most significant shrine in Sikhism.

For some people its just like any other Gurudwara, for some it’s just a tourist place, for some just a shrine, or its just a religious place, for some it’s a place to fill their stomach, for some its a place to stay, for some its place of full of life and people. But for me its not this, for me it’s different.

Being a child in Sikh family who belongs to Amritsar, the heart of Punjab, meaning of Darbar sahib is huge for me. It’s a place to refresh the soul, place where no one will judge you, where no one will ask you for your identity, you can sit anywhere in the Darbar Sahib and get inner peace. The premises of Darbar sahib consists of four doors in four directions which indicates that doors are open for everyone and everyone will be treated same way, no one is special or anything. This is the Highest place in Sikhism, where you’ll see everyone is praying, doing Path (reading holy scripts).

If someone asks me my favourite place? My answer is Darbar Sahib ‘cause it’s not just a place, it’s an emotion which can’t be described in words, you can only feel it. Whenever I visit the place, I get emotional. It seems like it’s the place where you can put your act of being which you do in front of the world and you can be original. The place is full of life, hope, patience, blessings, peace the inner peace and happiness. It’s not only a place of “Bhakti” but also a site of sacrifices which includes the blood of many Sikh’s and Shaheed’s, in which The Battle of Amritsar and operation Blue Star are included, in which more than thousand Sikhs became martyrs. According to Sikhism it’s a story of SABAR, SHUKAR, SIDAK, SIMARN DI MISAAL.

The Darbar sahib doesn’t only stand for religion but the Akaal Takht sahib (in front of Darbar sahib) stands for politics, in significance that religion can’t work without Politics and vice versa. It signifies the life of human, where we learn humanity, love, hope and equality. It’s the highest school of Sikhism.

After that foundation stone was placed by Guru Arjan Sahib and laid by Saint Hazrat Mian Mir Ji in December 1588, other devoted Sikhs, including Baba Budha Ji, Bhai Gurdas Ji, and Bhai Sahlo Ji, assisted her, and the construction was completed in 1601 AD on Bhadon Sudi 1st of Vikram Sanvat 1661.

After the completion work was over, Guru Granth Sahib, the first holy book of the Sikh community, was placed in it, and Baba Budha Ji was appointed as the first Granthi ‘Reader of the Holy Book.’ After this event, Amritsar got the status of ‘Ath Sath Tirath’- the national pilgrim center for Sikhs.

Guru Nanak Jayanti

commemorates the birthday celebration of Guru Nanak Dev ji the very first Sikh guru and the creator of Sikhism. It is one of the most spiritual festivals of the Sikhs area. The celebration is commemorated with great religious fervor, dedication and commitment throughout India, mostly in the states of Punjab, Haryana and also abroad. This holy celebration is observed on the moon day in the month of Kartik based on the Hindu schedule. The Expert Nanak Jayanti begins with the reading of the guru Granth Sahib, the divine book of the Sikhs in the Gurudwara non-stop for 2 days. This recitation of the guru Granth is referred to as Akhand Path and also this recitation ends on the day of the celebration.

gurupurab Day prior to Expert Nanak Jayanti, a spiritual procession or Prabhat Pheri is executed in the early morning that is lead by the Panj Pyares, the five armed guards. These guards head the procession bring the Sikh flag known as the Nishan Sahib. They also bring the Guru Granth Sahib that is well set in a Palki  ornamented with blossoms. A decade-long Indian dream of a Hindu temple in the Jebel Ali area was fulfilled on Tuesday after UAE's Minister of Tolerance Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan launched a new Hindu temple. "Today is the official inauguration of the Hindu temple in Dubai. We are now part of the worship village," Raju Shroff, trustee of the Hindu Temple said yesterday. He informed that the idea behind the community centre in Dubai's worship village is to congregate people and make them feel at home. "We have created both, a place of worship with 16 different deities with North, South and East, West India so that everybody from all parts of Hinduism can come and visit us. We also have a community centre which will host community events and activities - religious activities, personal events, ceremonies, and birthdays. The idea is to congregate people and make them feel at home in Dubai," said Shroff, who is also a member of the managing committee. "The idea to have a temple is not only for the place of worship but also to become a knowledge centre and also an outreach programme platform. We will be doing that in January, once the temple is stabilized and settled. A lot of people are coming through the temple once we are stable we are opening the centre which will teach languages, and arts culture to various people who would like to come and participate, run by volunteers for the community. And we will have an outreach programme to help the underprivileged by the community members," he added. The temple was inaugurated a day ahead of the Dussehra festival and the temple is an extension of the Sindhi Guru Darbar Temple, one of the oldest Hindu temples in the UAE. The temple's foundation was laid in February 2020. The temple, which officially opens to the public on Wednesday -- the day of the Dussehra festival, welcomes people of all faiths and has allowed entry to worshippers and other visitors to view the 16 deities and other interior works, reported Gulf News. Welcoming people from all faiths, the temple has already had its soft opening on September 1, where thousands of visitors were allowed to get a glimpse of the temple's interiors built with white marble. It has ornate pillars, Arabic and Hindu geometric designs on the facade, and bells on the ceiling. The temple management activated the QR-code-based appointment booking system via its website on its soft opening. The temple has received many visitors from day one, especially over the weekends. The restricted entry has been regulated through QR-coded appointments for crowd management and to ensure social distancing, the report said. Most of the deities are installed in the main prayer hall with a large 3D-printed pink lotus unfurling across the central dome. According to the official temple website, Dubai's new Hindu temple will be open from 6:30 am to 8 pm. Visitors who have booked their appointments to visit the temple from Dubai's official website for October 5, will be allowed entry without being subject to the hourly number restrictions which are currently in place. These Chakkars are hand made in the Holy City of Amritsar (Golden Temple/Darbar Sahib Ji).

Internal Diameter is approx 20 cm

A Chakkar is a steel ring which from about the 16th century onwards was a weapon exclusively used by the Sikhs. It is commonly placed on the Dastar. When used in battle, it usually has a sharp outer edge, but for ceremonial purposes it often has its outer edge left blunt, as does this one.

It is classified as a quoit-type weapon which is thrown or hurled, either by being released after being twirled around the smooth inside edge by the forefinger (a favourite Sikh method) or released frisbee-like or discus style. It is said to have an effective range of 40 to 50 metres.

These items are hand made and therefore every one is unique and measurements may vary slightly.

There may be slight scruff marks commonly seen in all the chakars/karas coming from Amritsar as these are handmade and kept in jumble. However, we will polish these before dispatch.
