Shuppet and Banette History
Tumblr media
(Art by Azurane on Deviantart)
Shuppet are ghost type pokemon originating in Hoenn, first being documented officially in the Hoennese Edo Period (1600s). They were said to be teru teru bōzu (small little paper dolls) come to life, playing pranks on the children that would mistreat them when they were still dolls. The Shuppet of this era had a slightly different appearance, being white and having paper instead of cloth cover them.
It wasn't until the 1940s that things began to change. During this time period, a popular brand of toy known as "ragged monsters" came out, which resembled what we know now as Banette. These toys quickly grew in popularity, subverting the expectation of regular humanoid dolls and appreciating the more creepy side of toys. These dolls were shipped to many other regions, with hundreds to thousands of them being made. Different variants of them were made as well to fit many occasions, and they became the staple of alternative toys at the time. (While I wasn't alive at that time, my ma did take part in this craze and I do have some of these dolls she decided to pass onto me).
But, like any craze, the popularity soon died out, and many of the dolls were abandoned and thrown away.
After that happened, complaints about seeing these dolls move on their own began to circle the region. Parents would say that their kids would see these strange toys move in the night and stand at the foot of their bed , almost with a vengeful energy. These dolls were recalled as to not anger anyone and to do more research on them. After extensive studies, it was revealed that these dolls were pokemon and the evolution of shuppet. This was a surprise to most, especially with it being the evolution of Shuppet, who was thought to have a rare evolution unrelated to these dolls. These pokemon were then named Jupetta, or Banette for Galarian speakers.

Mimikyu Facts
(@shadow-strawberry )
Tumblr media
(Art by mugita_konomi on Danbooru)
-The scientific name for mimkyu is "Tractis desiatria" which translates to "Tangible desire"
-You should never try and remove Mimikyu's costume for the danger it poses to you, and it can permanently damage your Mimikyu's trust in you
-Mimkyu's line on the evolution tree is very difficult to discuss and classify. Researching them is also incredibly difficult from how dangerous just seeing them is. Since what has been observed, they seem to be a black gaseous form, so researchers theorize they're relayed to the Ghastly line
-Mimikyu have been known to make costumes for other popular pokemon, the most common variant being Eevee. Nothing changes with behavior, though
-Like most ghost types, they don't need to eat, instead just being able to feed on the life force and emotions of other living things. To prevent anyone from getting hurt, you can contact your local pokemon center or league to arrange an ethical feeding plan
-However, in the wild when being observed by people, they have been known to eat berries and foods that Pikachu will eat. This stops once they think they aren't being watched
-Mimikyu get very jealous around Pikachu, and they shouldn’t be kept near each other. This isn't present with Pichu and disappears with Raichu
-Mimikyu are known to be very good at crafting and sewing
Tumblr media
-They're very clingy Pokemon and can get jealous easily in general
-All Mimikyu desire in life is affection and love, and they're willing to overlook the negative traits their trainer has as long as they're loved. This makes abuse in Mimikyu very common, since they won't care
-Mimikyu are very protective of their disguises and will avoid things like rain or snow to protect them. They can and will freak out if their disguise has a minor scratch on them, and they're very big neat-freaks
-Mimikyu are able to store a lot of items in their costumes
-While Mimikyu can breed, they don't breed normally since they can't be seen. Instead, they'll just put sperm into the Pokemon of the opposite sex
-Mimikyu will often hide in toy stores in hopes of someone mistaking them for a toy and taking them home
-Mimikyu are long living and it isn't known if they can die old age or natural causes

Halloween 2023: The Mistress of Spirits…
Tumblr media
…challenges you to a battle!
-
I didn’t have time to do anything big this year…but during the day I made this. I’ve been doing a mono-Ghost type run on my copy of Scarlet lately so thought it would be fitting to do a Pokémon-themed picture based on it.
The Pokémon in the picture aren’t the ones I have in my game, of course (except for Gengar and Hisuian Zorua, who is not shiny, so far) but these are some of my favorite Ghost types. I also wanted to have fun with my Pokemon Trainer design, going with the Hisui look for both the Zoroark and the theme of ghosts and how they’re from the past, in a sense.
Anyway, all that’s left to say is happy Halloween everyone! 👻

Zipper (Adopted)
Tumblr media
Name: Zipper
Species: Banette
Breed: Minature
Sex: Male
Height: 1'00 ft
Weight: 5 lbs
Ability: Insomnia
Moveset: Shadow Ball, Will-o-wisp, Night shade, Scary face
Funny story, we didn't know Zipper was even a Pokemon until he reached his arm out to grab some pokepuffs.
Zipper was dropped off at our daycare with a note just saying "Zipper" and nothing else. He didn't even move or breathe or blink or anything like that, so we thought it was just a doll, so we were going to sell it to an antique shop, since this style of doll stopped being made in the 1960s. And then I just had him on the counter and was making pokepuffs, and he just reached his hand over and took one, and then we realized, "Oh shit, he's a real Banette." So now, we're putting him up for adoption.
He doesn't move much, mostly moving to get food. HE is obviously easy to care for, and perhaps he'll move more once he finds a trainer who loves him again. If interested in adopting, reply or reblog with your qualifications and why.

Unpop opinion but ghost type Pokemon being given the slander they do about "killing their trainers" makes me really fucking mad and I wish people would stop.
We have so many episodes showcasing how ghost Pokemon actually work in-world. We were told in legends Arceus or at least, found out, that some creepier dex entries happened because of the stigma and fear of Pokemon at the time (notice how generations went on and some dex entries changed to be a bit more softer, even before legends Arceus, so I think that should be worth something).
I'm so tired of people assuming that life force means death. If a Pokemon saps your life force: you will not likely die, okay? I feel like "life force" in this context means someone's energy and nothing more. All they do, is deplete your energy and cause you to faint. Overtime, yes this could cause several health issues, but in the pokemon world you have 10 year olds going out in the wild and fucking around and finding out, so, with that said, it just makes sense that life force simply implies your energy, not your actual life itself.
If it were true that people who have Pokemon like Graveard and others die after x amount of time around them, there would be literally no trainers to do anything with. Logically, there wouldn't be many trainers and parents would be infinitely more strict about their kids leaving home into dangerous monster territory, methinks. Furthermore, this would mean Pokemon wouldn't even be the focus of the game at that point. The focus would be you literally trying not to die with none of your usual help, like a partner Pokemon, treat, rock, or even a pokéball. The game would be infinitely more violent and wouldn't be a E-E10 audience if that were to occur.
Anyways
This was my mini rant
It's 4am now, so none of this may make sense, so I'll just say this:
I DO NOT TOLERATE GHOST POKEMON SLANDER IN MY HOUSEHOLD

may we hear some lore about your lovely Pokémon oc 👀
Of course, it's very sweet of you to ask! Grant it I've not played a lot of the Pokemon games, and none of the PMD games (where he would exist, or at least something akin to it), so I'm mostly going off of things I've read.
You can finally add cuts on mobile let's GO
This is Caduceus Hecatoncheires (often gets shortened to just Cade though), the reclusive Lord of a huge, forgotten and ghostly Manor that borders a neighbouring Pokemon city. He acts as not only a guardian of the grounds and all the Pokemon within it, but also as a representative of their small, ghostly community at Poketown meetings. You'll often catch him busy with something around the manor, and the time he spends on himself is rarely witnessed (which basically translates to him being a bit of a workaholic)
The manor itself is pretty quiet during the day, and it's hidden within a thick set of woods just outside of a large Pokemon city. So a lot of mons only know of it's apparent existence through rumors and urban legends about a scary old mansion of interestingly human design sleeping within the depths of the woods. And that's the way they sort of prefer it, to avoid the potential of looting and vandalism.
Cade's story goes much deeper than that, however, as he is not the original Lord of the Manor -the one everyone thinks he is. The only thing Cade knows about the original Lord is his name, that he was also a dusknoir, and that he was the appointed guardian of the Manor set to protect it without fail. He learned all of this because he was mistaken as the very same Lord, after an unexplained disappearance had left the manor unprotected for a very long period of time. Cade had simply awoken with hardly any memories of who or what he was before, and was promptly swarmed by a mass of ghost types who were eager to see the return of their 'beloved lord'.
There's a whole bunch of story after that with Cade learning about what's been happening with the manor and the ghost community, and how they're at risk of losing their home. He decides to put his own mystery on hold for a while and help them out, and there's a very funny series of events where he fights the local Pokemon government over protection for the manor and it's grounds (I don't know why but the idea of a local Pokemon government is so funny to me). All the while, Cade is unknowingly falling into step with what the original Lord would do -though this time with more tenacity and fresh ideas.
It ends with Cade basically deciding that the mystery of who he was before isn't something he's particularly bothered by, and instead takes over the role of Lord of the Manor full time. And now it's been so long he sometimes forgets he wasn't always the guardian of the mansion, his past and present have completely become entwined within it.
He also ends up eventually meeting a Tsareena (a friend's oc) who works as a seamstress in the city and they end up totally enamoured with each other 🥺

Litwick Facts
Tumblr media
-The scientific name for Litwick is "Ignus Fatum" which translates to "foolish flame"
-I'm sure a lot of people are worried about Litwick stealing your life force. However, there is a way to tell when they're doing this. When the flame is an ethereal blue, that means they are stealing your life force. When their flames are dull and purple, that's when they're not feeding
-Even then, mostly only wild Litwick do this. Litwick in captivity who are well-fed don't usually steal the life force of others
-Despite their similar appearance, Litwick and Greavard are NOT related. Litwick and the rest of it's line aren't actually closley related to many Pokemon and are in their own group
-Depending on the place they were hatched and raised, the wax litwick may take on various scents. Smelling the scent of a Litwick from your yome town can cause feelings of nostalgia (headcanon from @pokebiologist )
-Despite being fire types, Litwick don't do well in hot temperatures and mostly survive in old airy buildings and thrive the most on cool nights
-They can also dull down the heat of their flames enough to the point where it is safe to touch
-Before they started living with humans, Litwick were just pokemon that resembled ghostly flames in the night. They started looking like candles
Tumblr media
(Art by Vulpek on Deviantart)
-The proverb "don't go towards the light" originated in Unova, referring to Litwick. It's now used as "The light at the end of the tunnel" referring to the light you see when you die. (Headcanon from @indepthpokemonheadcanons )
-In old Unova and Galar, people would often make candles resembling Litwicks to scare off evil spirits. Some people still do this practice today
-Litwick eggs are really squishy and one should be extra careful when handling them
-Shiny Litwick are said to be more dangerous since their blue flames are hotter and deadlier

Yamask Lore
Tumblr media
(Art by Knightlight9 on Deviantart)
The First Yamasks
Yamask originated in a region far east of Paldea. Early writing shows that they were referred to as “šwtba” which would refer to a spiritual shadow and a soul. For simplicity, I am still going to refer to them as Yamask. The writing also shows that the Yamask looked quite different. They were more bird-like and had almost entirely human masks, and almost always appeared after someone died.
Death Masks
A death mask is a mask of someone’s face that is made after they die. The practice originally came from this region. But the practice would appear in many cultures throughout different time periods, which is how Yamask were able to spread. Despite a lot of other Galarian forms of Pokemon, Yamask weren’t brought over here by colonization. Researchers still don’t know how or when they got here. They just appeared one day.
Galarian Yamask
The Yamask here couldn’t wear the masks because not many were made here. But you know what was made here a lot? Runes. These runes can be really similar to the masks, as many of the stone runes were made after someone died. These runes were super common and placed almost all throughout Galar, so it wasn’t difficult for Yamask to find them. A thing that I personally find cool is that they’re said to be the spirits of Vikings, which is why they carry around runes. Vikings made all sorts of rune stones after all. So the curses that the Pokedex mentions? Plenty of rune stones have references to curses if they’re not already cursed themselves.
