Copied from my Instagram caption: The brand creator, Shirley Billot, is a woc who grew up in the Caribbean and Africa. As someone who grew up on islands, Shirley saw climate change impact firsthand. I have family in Puerto Rico who has been impacted by the climate crisis as well, so it means a lot to me to see brands actively trying to make a difference in their carbon footprint. Kadalys does this by using ‘ugly’ bananas that won’t sell in grocery stores, thus helping combat food waste. I had the honor of trying three of their products. Their peel is so lovely! My favorite way of using it is letting it sit on my skin for ten minutes, then rubbing it into the skin for the scrub portion to really get rid of that dead skin build up. As someone with fragrance sensitivities, it was also refreshing to have a mild smelling cleanser that I can actually handle. It has a mild scent of bananas with floral undertones. Plus, it is an eye safe formula! Something that is super important to me as a makeup artist, I need cleansers that can be safely used on my eyes to remove my makeup. Last but not least is their AHA toner. This one is a pump free delivery system, which is great for people who dislike pumps.

I stopped using stupid luxury shampoo and conditioner and went back to the Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle for both (like $4/bottle) and after like four washes/two weeks it already feels SO much better

I think more people need to hear that not everyone needs to wash with soaps and cleansers (besides your hands which come into contact with more pathogens and also touch our eyes/mouths), water and a gentle scrub with your hands or a soft cloth is gonna be just fine most of the time, especially if you have dry or sensitive skin.

I find that when my pits get too stinky for just water and I have to use soap/cleanser on them, I'm more likely to get bo sooner and worse after, and I have to scrub them and use deodorant more between showers until everything resets.

nothing wrong with soap and cleansers but it really feels weird and like a marketing scam that they're treated like using them once or twice a day on your face and body is the default, when just washing with water makes more sense as a default and doesn't have the risk of causing sensitivities or damaging your skin barrier.

#the only default skincare routine that makes sense is washing gently with water #from there you can figure out if you need cleansers or moisturizers or whatever. #I have dry skin and eczema and occasional acne and using even the gentlest of cleansers has never done anything but aggravate these things #using a face cleanser really made my acne sooooo much worse when I tried to do it regularly for a bit #a gentle scrub with water really does get most of the gunk off #and you WANT some oil and dead skin cells left on your skin. that helps protect it.
