*Gets extremely emotional over a dumb romcom*

Okay, so let’s talk Senior Year and why I fucking hate Martha and Seth;

Yk what, Martha was being such an asshole during her fight w Steph. It’s so fucking stupid to act like she owns you maturity and responsibility when she is 17. Like, yeah, she has the body of a 37yo woman but mentally she is seven-fucking-teen. And also all that stupid ass talk abt “you had me, you had Seth”, no tf she didn’t?? Why would she even want to hang out with them? They are adults, they have their own lives, jobs, concerns and as far as Steph remembers she is just a kid, it’s obvious that she’d rather hang out w teens at a house party than keep on being besties with people twenty years older than her, besides, her relationship with Seth is REALLY icky. How tf does this man who’s pushing forty think it’s okay to date his friend who hasn’t aged mentally since they were seniors? He doesn’t have the right to get mad at her for “teenage-tricking him” when he himself is taking advantage of a woman who clearly does not have life experience of maturity to be with an adult (despite physically being one herself).

Everything that Steph says to defend herself during the fight is completely justifiable. And also, the police shouldn’t even consider this as an adult woman giving alcohol to teens when she literally has a medical bill saying “this woman is mentally a teenager and lost the last 20 years of her life”, like even legally she should barely count as an adult.

Everyone who gets mad at Steph throughout the movie tells her some variation of “you have to grow up” but how do you want her to even do that? She was in a coma for twenty years for fuck’s sake, maturity obviously won’t js pop up in her brain bc she suddenly woke up at 37.

And the way that the fight turns into “you pushed me away in highschool to b popular🥺” is SO ridiculous. Martha is telling Steph to grow up and yet she can’t get over the fact that her friend made a dick move twenty years ago. Get the fuck over yourself, woman.

The “making mistakes is different than willfully screwing over the ppl who care abt you” line is also so bad, Steph didn’t do anything to screw over anyone, she made two dumb decisions (one of which VERY dumb one, for that matter (and the other was 20 years ago, as mentioned)) but she IS NOT at the same level of maturity as her old friends and they shouldn’t expect her to.

The only people who treated Steph right through the whole movie were her father, who (despite letting her go out with Seth) still treated and cared for her like the teenager she truly is, and her high shool friends who never questioned treating her as one of them.

Conclusion: Steph should have dumped Seth’s creepy advantage taking ass and Martha’s fuck ass exigency for maturity (even when she doesn’t have any herself💀) and stayed with Janet and Yaz, they were real ones.

I wasn't too familiar with the mean girls musical movie Karen and Gretchen at first so I didn't really look into them but um yea so I just checked their filmography and Instagram pages out and I love them actually and from what I see, these two can pull a greatly unique and possibly quite earnest take on the cult classic roles that are Karen Smith and Gretchen Wieners. Anyways great now I want this fucking movie to be decent for their sakes as well-

my two cents

the thing that white people don't seem to understand is that white characters often exist without their whiteness being essential to the story while it is a rarity if characters of color ever get that luxury in the stories that they're in. and even then, in the context of real life, it makes no sense to those kinds of characters white because of how little representation that exists for people of color who don't have their own intense 'struggle story'.

for all the disney princesses that they're saying, "so i guess _____ should be white then," they have to realize that their stories don't exist without their racial and ethnic backgrounds. jasmine is an arab girl whose story takes place in the middle east; take away her color, and you have a different story entirely--you are no longer telling the story of 'aladdin'. mulan is a chinese woman in ancient china fighting in the chinese army against the huns. if she was any other ethnicity other than chinese, it would not be the same 'mulan'. pocahantas is a native american girl whose home and safety was being threatened by the *white* colonizers. IF SHE HAD BEEN WHITE, THE STORY WOULD NOT HAVE MADE SENSE!!!

and tiana, who i don't know why she's even being brought up in this conversation (i don't know why any of them were being brought up anyway, but her especially), is a black woman in the jim crow south in the 1920s, whose story was full of jazz music and voodoo, and who had to work all day, every day to barely be able to afford a down payment on the building for her restaurant. at the risk of sounding redundant, IF SHE HAD BEEN WHITE, she would have been lottie. and that's what people don't seem to understand: 'the princess and the frog' already showed us what it would be like if tiana was white. she would have been the princess of nola with a daddy so rich, all she would have had to do was ask for money and he would have bought the building for her and then some. there would have been no need to bargain with naveen, no adventure through the bayou, no character development for tiana. simply put, the movie. would not. exist.

at this point, i've forgotten how i wanted to say what i wanted to say, so i'll say this: casting a person of color in a 'typically white' role does no detriment to your self-worth. it has no impact on your childhood. it does not affect you in any way. but for people of color, who didn't have too much of this representation growing up, opportunties like this are everything for us (i didn't even talk about francesca amewudah-rivers and the west-end romeo and juliet, but the same sentiments still apply, especially because she's also providing nigerian representation in a space that i love but don't feel too represented in). but, if you don't like the idea, don't watch the product.

a lot of you complaining are grown adults who have much bigger issues to worry about, so please quit being immature and shut up about it!! and stop being bullies to actors that are doing nothing but their jobs.

Northshore High was buzzing with activity as Karen Shetty caught the constant attention of students across the hall as they strolled. With Karen’s arm around y/n waist, the taller girl looked ahead with the same dazed look she always had. Although the couple garnered attention, it was Y/N who often found herself the object of affection for many boys.

One day, after their math class, Karen and Y/N walked through the crowded hallways, making their way past others to meet up with Regina and Gretchen. Y/N, with her hot demeanor and downcast eyes, attracted more attention than she was comfortable with due to her short plaid skirt with a cropped top, which was Karen’s favourite top on y/n, that hugged her figure. The taller girl, noticing the subtle glances and attempts at flirtation, couldn't help but feel a possessive twinge. Her normal dazed look twisted into a stare of jealousy.

As they reached Y/N's locker, a group of boys approached, led by Shane, the douchebag who was convinced y/n wanted to fuck him. "Hey, Y/N, I was thinking we could grab lunch together. What do you say?" he asked, flashing a charming smile. This went by with y/n clueless to the look the taller girl gave to the boy.

Y/N, blushing, looked at Karen for guidance. Karen, with a playful grin, replied, "Sorry, Shane, but Y/N and I have plans. We’re going to Taco Bell. Maybe next time."

Shane, undeterred, persisted, "Come on, Karen, can't Y/N make her own choices?"

Karen's eyes narrowed down slightly. "It's not about choices, Shane. It's about respect. And you should show some."

The days that followed saw an increase in attention towards Y/N. The school's rumor mill began churning stories of a rivalry between Karen and the persistent suitors. The tension reached its peak during a school assembly when Shane decided to make his move.

As the assembly ended and the students filed out, Shane approached Y/N with an assertive demeanor. "Y/N, we need to talk. Alone."

Y/N, feeling uneasy, glanced at Karen, who stood nearby. Shane, ignoring the silent warning, continued, "I don't know why you're with Karen. You deserve someone who can treat you better."

Before Y/N could respond, Karen, sensing the situation escalating, stepped forward. "Shane, we've asked you to back off. This is your last warning."

Shane laughed dismissively. "Or what? Are you going to fight for her, Karen?"

Fueled by a surge of possessiveness and frustration, Karen decided it was time to make a statement. She pulled Y/N into a passionate kiss, right there in the school corridor, in front of Shane and a growing crowd of curious students. God, Karen basically ate the girl in front of everyone, making sure that Shane saw how she slipped her hand into the top of the other. (Get a room 🗣️)

The kiss was intense, a mix of asserting dominance and expressing love. When Karen finally pulled away, she looked at Shane with a smirk. "That answers your question. Now, leave us alone."

As Shane retreated, flustered and humbled, Karen turned her attention back to Y/N, who was wide-eyed and blushing. "Karen, what was that?"

Karen, with a softened expression, caressed Y/N's cheek. "Sometimes, actions speak louder than words. I needed to show everyone that you're mine, and no one else's."

Y/N, still processing the bold move, whispered, "But, Karen, we could have handled it differently."

Karen grinned, "Maybe, but sometimes a bold move is necessary. And besides, I couldn't resist kissing you."

!!! First!! Fjord and Jester kiss!! Is when Fjord gives her all his air to save her from drowning!! What the fuck that’s perfect!! of course it happened in the heat of battle! When Fjord couldn’t overthink it and Jester couldn’t make him nervous about it!

No hesitation, this was his instinct when he saw Jester drowning. Not to grab her and pull her up, not to get the key off her body to get the trapdoor open, but to literally give her all of his remaining breath, basically trading places with her, saving her from drowning at the possible expense of his own chance to escape.

And this is his mission! They’re all here for him! He’s been doing his absolute best to stay calm and collected, to stay in control of the situation while he tries to learn all he can about the things that are happening to him. He’s hiding things, he’s stringing Avantika along… and literally none of that matters when he sees Jester drowning.

He’s almost drowned before. All that was there to save him was an eldritch monstrosity, a leftover piece of a betrayer god, demanding purchase on his soul in exchange for his life. When he sees Jester drowning, he gives her what he couldn’t have - a soft, gentle, life-giving breath from someone who loves her and can’t stand to lose her.

fine. FINE. it is time to discuss mean girls (2024) bc i can't stop thinking about it and i had a severe mean girls the musical phase in 2018 and 2020 two separate times. and also i took notes watching the movie last night. so now you are all subject to hearing them. spoilers, obvi. (under the cut, of course)

i think it should be noted here that i also have Thoughts and Feelings on the bway musical. so if anyone wants to know those... moving on.

it's a movie-musical adapted from the stage musical adapted from the 2004 movie adapted from a BOOK called Queen Bees and Wannabes released in 2002. now that that's out of the way:

the good:

the sets are so much fun in the movie. the musical is like. a few desks and tables and a bed that all move and then. screens. i missed real sets. so much

opening the musical with janis and damien recording the video in the garage and having their narration work like that worked sooooo well. and then of course ending in the garage was very fun.

speaking of janis and damien, these are my favorite versions of janis and damien. auli'i and jaquel KILL IT as janis and damien.

angourie's cady (acting-wise) is really good. really cute and naïve and it feels authentic as a transition from new kid cady to plastic cady.

i also don't mind the changes to apex predator. i think auli'i and jaquel killed it and i think it works! i like the choreo too where everyone is acting animalistic (re: this is Girl World in the og movie) except regina.

avantika and bebe wood are also really great as gretchen and karen. this might be my favorite version of karen. ily karen shetty.

LOVE this version of someone gets hurt. i love regina controlling the atmospehere around her and literally becoming the apex predator. the partygoers don't move unless she allows it, and even planning cady's reaction (which is. gayer than expected) is so good.

CONTROVERSIAL TAKE? i prefer the story behind the pyro-lez thing. i never liked the space dyke story in the musical and i thought it was weird (though i prefer them calling her a space dyke because it's supposed to be mean. ya know)

im saving this for this bullet point bc every other bullet point would've been about but i've been a fan of renee's regina for forever now, so being able to see it outside of broadway and outside of shaky bootlegs is a blessing.

after regina eats shit at the talent show, during the social media montage, you can briefly hear the intrumental version of world burn, and i think thats cool.

SOMEONE GETS HURT (REPRISE) you will always be famous. i am so sorry they didn't put you on the soundtrack

damien on the jazzy will forever be funny. it's better than the og movie. i will stand by this.

also the background/looming beat of world burn like a second after janis gets done singing + the looming threat of regina's revenge is very cool.

OH world burn is very awesome in this bc. duh. of course it is. but what really stands out to me is that it's like apex predator again where everyone is acting like animals and reginas above it all (bc she did this lmao). another thing is the transition between one of the high notes to regina fake crying in mr duvalls office. that was so slay.

the reginald joke is my fave in the whole musical and im so glad they kept it. it makes me giggle every time.

i miss all of the songs. give me back It Roars, Where Do You Belong, the entirety of Meet the Plastics, the What's Wrong with Me reprise, FEARLESS! and Whose House is This, More is Better, and Do This Thing!! GIVE THEM BACK TO ME!!! PLEASE!!! OH my god and Stop. jaquel would've blown this out of the water i just know it.

i miss the jokes about mrs george and her boob job. that shit was hilarious.

i don't care for cady's pov in revenge party in this one. those who have seen it Know.

i also miss the "NO! THEY'RE BOTH IN THE COSTUME!" that shit killed me. absolutely hilarious.

the musical (bway edition) actually did cut some of the iconic scenes from the movie, but i think this movie would've benefitted from adding them back in. give me the "we should totally just stab caesar!" line.

i hate Rockin Around The Pole. so fucking much. i hate it in the broadway version and i hated it in this. i hate this song so fucking much.

even the broadway musical is like, actually mean. it still pales in comparison to the og movie. this movie could have done a little more to stand out from the actual musical and the og movie. idk. it could've said something. but if you walked into this movie and expected it to say something then that's on you. sorry.

this isn't something that needs to be categorized but i miss cady's inner monologue. it's very obvious in the movie but she's even got these cute little asides in the musical that i WISH they would've kept. like: "it seems kinda bad to spy on someone, but they're the first friends i've got, and i don't want to have none." is so much fun and gives cady so much character and i love it so much. erika henningsen is my favorite variation of cady. she's believable as both nerdy cady and plastic cady. also she's so, so funny. (honestly i think they should've brought her back for cady's songs in this musical. sawry. i don't think they should've replaced angourie bc i really like her cady But.)

another cute and quirky thing that i like from the musical that isn't in the movie (because it would be really hard to pull off) is that mrs heron/mrs george/mrs norbury are all played by the same actress.

anyway that's all i have to say about mean girls (2024). in my (completely unprofessional) opinion, they should've literally just adapted the actual musical script if they wanted to make this so bad. or released a pro-shot with renee as regina and this cast or something. they should've gone all out campy musical with this one instead of trying to market it as a remake bc it's not Really a remake. like it Is but it's Not.
