Sometimes a girl has to go a little crazy. Sometimes a girl has to make a book-accurate floorplan for 300 Fox Way. These things just happen, sometimes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obsessive annotations under the cut ✨ but be warned, there's a LOT
Exterior
Okay first of all, I'm no architect, and my only knowledge comes from work experience in the real estate industry + a lot of Sims. The style is sort of neo-rural French colonial. I didn't set out to adhere to that standard so much as I made an amalgamation of homes in Blue Ridge Mountains-adjacent towns in Virginia. Specifically, my headcanon Henrietta template is Orange, VA (I'll save that explanation for another post) so I took inspiration from real estate listings from there.
Alright alright I know there is supposed to be one bathroom, but I simply can't tolerate that in a house with 6+ residents. I can't. There was a possible contradiction in the descriptions of "the single shared bathroom" that I used as an excuse to add a 3/4 bath, and I threw in a powder room for free. Because technically there is still only one full bathroom! But seriously with that many women over 30 most of them probably have IBS or chronic constipation and I'm not making them all share a toilet.
Officially we only have 4 bedrooms listed in text: Blue's, Persephone's, Maura's, and Calla and Jimi's shared one. Everyone else gets rooms that don't qualify as bedrooms via Virginia residential building codes (such as the attic, obviously, which falls below the combined ceiling height and square footage requirements). That really just leaves Orla unaccounted for but I'll get to that later. Other aunts and friends seem to visit during the day and live somewhere else, because in The Raven King only Jimi and Orla were described as needing to move out of the house during the demon stuff.
I designed the entire interior floorplan before I even touched the exterior, so there's a few issues, like how I'm totally missing shutters on the windows that functionally need them most. 🫶 I didn't feel like making the windows smaller to fit them, and I could have added faux-shutters but I think those are stupid. 😘
First floor
"This house is lovely. So many walls. So, so many walls," Malory said as Blue entered the living room a little later.
- Blue Lily, Lily Blue, Chapter 30
Right off the bat, we have an insane number of doors and walls. Old colonial houses are pretty much the opposite of open concept. Functionally I believe that's because it's easier to control heat with closed off rooms, but Virginia is not particularly cold so idk. As for the number of doors, I mean....😤😤😤 I prefer archways/doorless frames in small high-traffic spaces, but every time I thought I could get away with it Maggie would specifically describe doors opening and closing (For example BL,LB Ch 41 gives the reading room double doors, and even the living room gets one in Ch 11. What kind of living room needs a door???). I'm actually missing one of the doorways described in canon, but if you know which one I'm talking about I DARE you to find a place to put that thing!! But I digress.
“Mom," she said as she jumped down the crooked stairs.
- The Raven Boys, Chapter 3
I'm liberally using "crooked" to establish the corner turn stairs. Blue steadies herself on the stair railing when she identifies Gansey for the first time (TRB Ch 15), so I wanted the stairs to have good visual access to visitors. It also sort of has a feng shui-ish effect of separating the public and private energy zones in the house. If that statement made zero sense, I think one of us doesn't know enough about feng shui 👀 and it might be me.
I'm also using that quote to establish Maura's room downstairs, if Blue generally expects to find her mother there, but mostly because everything else was upstairs and it was getting hard to fit. Granted, at one point Blue leads the boys "up the stairs to Maura's bedroom" (TDT Epilogue) but since they were just arriving at 300 Fox Way those stairs could easily be the outdoor ones. There's a handful of little things to support me here, such as Adam grabbing a scrying bowl from Maura's room to use in the reading room (BL,LB Ch 41) implying that her room was the closest place to find one. And speaking of Maura's room-
Calla was overwhelmed by how much shit Maura had in her room at 300 Fox Way, and she told Blue this.
... The mess was taking years from her life. ... Maura liked chaos.
... The psychic hotline rang in the room next door. Calla's concentration fluttered away.
- Blue Lily, Lily Blue, Prologue
Maura is my favorite hypocrite. She claims to detest clutter (TRB Ch 34) and yet her room is literally described as chaos. She probably treats her room like a college student and moves the furniture every time she gets bored/stressed. Thus, I gave her the most insane furniture configuration I could think of while still matching all the contents described.
The phone ringing next door might imply that she neighbors the phone/sewing/cat room, but that area is pretty well described and Maura's room is never mentioned there in any other instance. That leaves us with the kitchen phone (TRB Ch 27) which I put in the hallway with kitchen access as a compromise so it would technically still be in a room next to Maura's.
In the reading room, the man looked around with clinical interest. His gaze passed over the candles, the potted plants, the incense burners, the elaborate dining room chandelier, the rustic table that dominated the room, the lace curtains, and finally landed on a framed photograph of Steve Martin.
- The Raven Boys, Chapter 13
There are so many quotes about the reading room that I just don't feel like citing them, but other details include the mismatched chairs, the shelves, doors etc. It's also described specifically as Maura's "front room" (TRB Prologue) so it's one of the cornerstones that I designed the rest of the layout around. Because of the plants, it makes sense that this room would be south-facing too. (Although idk how much light they get with the wraparound porch awning in the way. Oops lol!)
The outside suddenly seemed vivid in comparison to the dim kitchen. The April-bright trees pressed against the windows of the breakfast area, ...
- The Raven Boys, Chapter 3
Blue Stormed into 300 Fox Way's kitchen and began a one-sided interrogation with Artemus, who was still hidden behind the closed storage closet door.
- The Raven King, Chapter 9
Likewise, I'm using the particularly dim kitchen to place it on the north side, where we also know there's trees in the backyard.
I'll say the kitchen layout is weirder than it strictly needed to be because in the Virginia homes I referenced I adored all the strange kitchens, especially with old timey 'servants area' vibes where laundry kitchen and pantry are all connected. Instead of a kitchen island, they get one of those rolling kitchen carts which I doubled as a bar cart for the drinks they have in the living room.
The kitchen has a doorway to the hall (TRB Ch 13) and the living room is within view when Blue's on the kitchen phone (Ch 27).
Speaking of chapter 27, that's when we get the description "The morning light through the windows turned the drinks a brilliant, translucent yellow." So I put the living room on the east side of the house, where the rising sun would cast really strong light like that.
Second Floor
When she woke up, her normally morning-bright room had the breath-held dimness of afternoon. In the next room over, Orla was talking to either her boyfriend or to one of the psychic hotline callers.
- The Raven Boys, Chapter 3
Blue headed toward the red-painted door at the end of the hall. On her way, she had to pass the frenzy of activity in the Phone/Sewing/Cat Room and the furious battle for the bathroom. The room behind the red door belonged to Persephone, ...
- The Raven Boys, Chapter 11
Blue's room and the Phone/Sewing/Cat room are our cornerstones for this floor. In several examples we know that the Phone/Sewing/Cat room faces the street and has a window (TRB Ch 15, BL,LB Ch 4). While Blue's room is "morning-bright," we also get descriptions of guests at the front door "backlit by the evening sun," (TRB Ch 15) so once again we're probably talking about south windows if it's sunlit at both times of day.
Adam sat awkwardly on the edge of Blue's bed. It felt strange to have so easily gained access to a girl's bed- room. If you knew Blue at all, the room was unsurprising - canvas silhouettes of trees stuck to the walls, leaves hanging in chains from the ceiling fan, a bird with a talk bubble reading WORMS FOR ALL painted above a shelf cluttered with buttons and about nine different pairs of scissors. Against the wall, Blue self-consciously taped up the drooping branch on one of the trees.
- The Dream Thieves, Chapter 49
We get some great descriptions of Blue's room (especially TRB Ch 43), although the above one is my favorite (#wormsforall). Every piece of furniture is accounted for exactly as described except the desk which I added because it seemed practical, and Blue is nothing if not practical™.
Persephone's room is also very well-described, all the way down to the furniture and lighting placement (BL,LB Ch 4 and TRB Ch 11) and it's surprisingly similar to Blue's room, if not a bit smaller. Her room gets strong afternoon sunlight, so I put it on the south too (BL,LB Ch 43).
Calla and Jimi share a room that's also upstairs (TRK Ch 16). Because they are the only two who have to share a room, I have justified that it must be the "master bedroom" (sorry for using that term) and is far bigger than the other bedrooms. I managed to fit two queen beds in there, but some scholars [me] would argue that Jimi and Calla might also share a bed because they are in love. Can you prove me wrong? No, you can't.
As for the bathroom, remember when I mentioned a possible contradiction? Famously, Maura draws the ley line symbol in the steamed up shower door (TRB Ch 1). However, much later we get Maura, Orla, Calla and Jimi all sitting in the bathtub for some kind of ritual (TRK Ch 9). No matter how I picture it, I can't put 4 full grown women in a bathtub together without someone partially sitting on/spilling over the side. But that would be impossible in a combo bath/shower enclosed by glass doors!! Thus, I gave The Bathroom a nice tub and put a small shower in the en suite of Jimi and Calla's room. I know this is a stretch but I don't really care.
Attic
Blue had never been a big fan of the attic, even before Neeve moved in. Numerous slanting roof lines provided dozens of opportunities to hit your head on a sloping ceiling. Unfinished wood floorboards and areas patched with prickly plywood were unfriendly to bare feet. Summer turned the attic into an inferno.
... In one of the narrow dormers, two full-length, footed mirrors faced each other, reflecting mirrored images back and forth at each other in perpetuum.
- The Raven Boys, Chapter 34
Trying to fit the attic access in after everything in the second floor was my biggest challenge, because stairs normally take up a lot of space and you have to be careful about head room. I'm the end, I decided it was one of those fold out attic doors that you have to reach from the ceiling of the hallway. We might get a lot of instances of the attic door being opened (😤 seriously, Maggie... 😤) but technically a trap door in the ceiling is still a door!
Dormers pretty much cemented the French colonial style for me. And you know the drill by now: a hot room probably means a lot of sun, which means I give it a south facing window!
Mud Room/Cellar/Basement
This cellar has absolutely zero mention in the text, but my justification is based in the architecture. So far we've got a funky old colonial house, built without a garage, lots of walls etc. Especially in a low-income/semi-rural area, it's not crazy to assume that 300 Fox Way was built before most residents had refrigerators (1930s-40s). Besides iceboxes, a major way to keep food fresh was root cellars. Modern renovations for old homes convert these to concrete basements, but that's why the basement is so small and connects to the kitchen.
My headcanon is that Orla originally shared a room. Pick whoever you want: Maura, Blue or Persephone, any of them would easily be such a chaotic roommate that Orla snapped and in a fit of teen girl rage moved herself down to the crummy dark basement. Over time, she made efforts to glamorize it, such as a vintage dressing screen to hide the flood drainage pump. The privacy also allows her to bring boyfriends over, even sneaking them through the mud room.
This is really just my artistic license, but I swear it makes a surprising amount of sense in context. There's cases of Orla sneaking into the kitchen (easier if she has a back entrance) and she's almost always using the phone upstairs or in the kitchen (because a basement would get bad reception) even though her calls get kinda ~intimate.
Aaaaaand I think that's everything. Sorry it doesn't look like the photo from the wiki at all, but I couldn't find a source for it and Victorian style wasn't super common in the areas I researched. Let me know if I missed anything major! I'll probably cry myself to sleep if so.

Psycho Analysis: Buffalo Bill
Tumblr media
(WARNING! This analysis contains SPOILERS!)
Back in 2019, I started Psycho Analysis with a review of one of cinema’s most overshadowed and underrated villains. Now that I’m better at this, I've decided I'm redoing those old reviews, giving them a fresh coat of paint, fitting them into the modern Psycho Analysis style, and updating the scores. I figured there’s no better place to start than with good ol’ Jame Gumb.
Jame Gumb (yes, Jame, he doesn’t have an “S” in his name) is the enigmatic serial killer from The Silence of the Lambs known as Buffalo Bill. He’s left a trail of flayed women in his wake, his motives unknown, and it’s up to Clarice Starling to stop him with a little help from a smarmy cannibal asshole. He’s the perfect sort of twisted, perverted freak you’d hope to find in a grim, gritty detective story. In fact, he almost seems a bit uncontroversial and unremarkable in terms of villains, doesn’t he?
Oh, if only. Unfortunately, there are aspects of Bill’s character that have made him the second most controversial villain of 90s cinema after Ray Finkle from Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. And we’re going to discuss all of that, because the big question when discussing Bill ultimately isn’t whether he’s good or bad, but is he good despite the unfortunate implications he ends up carrying due to what is and isn’t adapted from the book?
Motivation/Goals: Bill just wants to play dress up. Unfortunately, his idea of dressing up involves skinning women and then sewing said skin into a woman suit he can wear to dance about in his underground dungeon, penis tucked between his legs. To accomplish this Ed Gein-esque goal, he uses the playbooks of other killers like Ted Bundy to lure in unsuspecting women of considerable girth, traps them in a well in his basement, and forces them through a strict skin care regiment until it’s time to kill and skin them.
All of this is just incredibly fucked up, and also isn’t elaborated on to quite the degree the novel does due to Bill not being a character we focus on to gain real insight into. The full reveal of his plan is a shocking twist, but we don’t have the full psychological scope of his actions that was laid bare in the novel; while it doesn’t diminish Gumb in my opinion, it does leave the door open for some… problematic readings of what he’s up to, which we’ll discuss later.
Performance: While I don’t think I could possibly say he is an actor who manages to achieve the lofty heights of Hopkins, Ted Levine is still absolutely fantastic in his role. He’s an actor who always manages to inject his characters with a sort of unsettling air; just look at his brief appearance in Shutter Island if you need proof of this. Those skills are put to good use here, as he manages to make Gumb truly unnerving, and arguably far more realistic in his depiction of a serial killer than Lecter is.
Final Fate: After stalking Clarice Starling through his blackened basement while wearing night vision goggles, the tables are turned on Bill and the hunter becomes the hunted as Clarice unloads her gun into him. It’s a rather fitting death; as he preyed on women at their most vulnerable, it only makes sense that a woman strip him of all his power when he appears to be in control.
Evilness: I really don’t think there is any good argument against Bill getting the full 10/10. I mean, the man skins women so that he can wear their skin as a suit. How much fucking worse can a person even be in a story like this? It says a lot that Lecter comes off as more reasonable and less evil than the guy (even though this is decidedly not the case).
Best Scene: You know what it is:
youtube
And it’s even Jay and Silent Bob approved!
youtube
Really gotta compliment the song choice here; Q Lazzarus’ ominous dance tune “Goodbye Horses” forever had its image altered by its use here, but it really heightens the mood and feeds in to the unsettling nature of Bill’s dance. You can’t hear the opening notes of the song without this scene immediately coming to mind. And to think, its inclusion was all because she happened to pick up director Johnathan Demme in her taxi during a blizzard and showed him her demo tape.
Best Quote: From the above scene, Bill drops one of the most famous serial killer quotes in cinematic history:
“Would you fuck me? I’d fuck me. I’d fuck me so hard.”
Final Thoughts & Score: Buffalo Bill is horrendously underrated as a villain, though clearly there are some out there who appreciate him (Seth Green for example, who based Chris Griffin’s voice in Family Guy off of Buffalo Bill’s). That being said, the movie unfortunately ends up dipping into problematic territory as by excising most of the elaboration from the novel, Bill can unfortunately be read as an unflattering depiction of a trans woman.
Now you and I know that isn’t true, and anyone else who has read the book knows it isn’t true, but do you really think the average moviegoer in the early 90s cared about that? They see the freaky man dancing around with his schlong tucked away, wearing a woman’s skin, and find it unsettling and grotesque. It is incredibly easy to see how someone could see this as something akin to a villain in a crappy JKR detective novel, and it really didn’t have to be that way because the book really goes out of its way to not demonize trans people; while a bit outdated by modern standards, the book explains that trans people are not inherently violent and that Gumb is merely deluding himself into believing he is trans as some sort of warped justification for his actions. It even pointing out he was rejected for gender reasignment surgery. The movie has a few lines, but that’s kind of disappointing compared to the original novel, isn’t it? Then again, perhaps over-explaining would lead to the same criticisms the ending of Psycho gets, where laying things out for the audience in a way that tries not to demonize marginalized individuals is seen as tacky and unneeded.
Considering that Gumb was inspired by real life killers and their motivations (particularly Ed Gein, who has a higher number of fictional characters inspired by him than he does victims) and because I read the book, I don’t necessarily find his portrayal all that offensive, but I am a cis guy. If you do find his character tasteless, I won’t exactly blame you. It’s a rather unfortunate side effect of the transition from book to film that we lost the details that would ameliorate the problematic image of the character. With all that said, I still think he gets an 8.5/10. He’s certainly not as iconic as Lecter is and he’s too problematic to score any higher, but he is a very effective villain for the film he’s in and Levine’s performance is chilling and entrancing.
If nothing else, his existence led to the greatest open RP of all time. That’s gotta count for something.

~misinformed~
(A ROTTMNT One-Shot)
In which an upset outsider doesn't have all the facts. Donnie intervenes.
(outsider POV. my first time writing in this style :D)
---
Your first mistake is thinking it'd be funny.
The mutant turtles—the Hamato's, your friends' supply—have been coming by Run of the Mill for about two years. Every time they show up, something happens, so much so that anyone not living under a rock knows who they are by word of mouth alone. Some of Hueso's newest customers come to see what spectacle the morons make of themselves this time.
The normally straight-laced, no-nonsense bone man doesn't seem to mind. He'll roll his eyes and sigh whenever the Blue one loudly struts in like he owns the place, but he hasn't turned them away since that one time the purple one tried to flip a table and failed.
It's as if the owner has a soft spot for the freaks. You can't imagine why. Not when chaos follows them at every turn, dragging others into it against their will.
Like that time with the Shredder beast that tore up the surface. You could care less about the humans, but you almost felt bad for them once the turtles got involved.
And then there was the invasion.
You were on your way to class when rubble started raining from above. Tendrils of pink, slime-coated tentacles seeped through the cracks of the only barrier between the human world and yours. And you're a big freaking guy, a bull yokai that towers over most of your peers, and you were cowering in a corner until the shaking stopped, and the world went quiet after what felt like years.
You learn later that the fabled Krang had been released from their prison dimension by a group of human cultists called the Foot Clan. The turtles were right in the middle of it.
Some thanked the turtles for cancelling the apocalypse, saving the world in a feat of bravery and selflessness. Others, like yourself, who'd heard from the eyes and ears above ground about how the Foot Clan had released the Krang, wanted to wring their necks.
So when, after two months of no-shows, the Blue one shows up alone wearing an oversized blue hoodie, a brace on his left knee and that stupid grin, approaching the counter with a barely-there limp in his step, you and your friends grin.
Your second mistake is leaving your table.
You wait until Hueso leaves to get his order to approach the boy and tap him on the shoulder. He turns and cranes his neck to meet your eyes, smirk firmly in place as he leans against the counter. “Can I help you?” he asks.
You snort, folding your muscular arms. “You're one of those turtle guys, right?”
Blue raises an eye ridge at you like you're the stupid one, gesturing to himself with a wave of his arm. “I mean, I am a turtle, so...”
You fight to keep your grin. “Yeah. I heard you guys were a big help during that crazy shit with the Krang. Terrible stuff, that was. A miracle you made it out.”
The kid's face twitches in an odd way you've never seen before his grin comes back up like shutters on a door. “Yeah, you could say that,” he says, inspecting his nails. “We're basically legends now, my bros and I. I go by many names, Neon Leon, Nardo, The World's Greatest Ninja--but you can call me Leo, my good man. Need me to sign your napkin for ya? Your face, your shirt—?”
The audacity of this kid. You admit you feel more than a little satisfied when you slap one hand down on the counter, making him jump as you loom over him.
“Sure. You're a hero, alright,” you sneer, drawing up to your full height as the kid bumps the back of his shell against the counter. “But I heard that you and your 'bros' were the morons who let those Foot freaks set the Krang loose in the first place. Ain't that right?”
You watch as the kid goes ridged, eyes wide, the smile wiped clean off his face. Finally. “How—I mean, I—I, uh—”
“What? Got nothing to say?”
You feel eyes on you from other patrons, your friends chuckling from your table, watching the smug idiot under you start to sweat.
“How about I help you? You can start with, I don't know, an apology. How many humans do you think lost their lives up there, hm? I don't give a shit either way, but since you're out here boasting about being their 'hero', I'd say that's a pretty big deal. Or what about the Yokai down here who thought they'd lose everything when the rubble fell and destroyed homes and businesses? You ever think about them while you were up acting like some big-shot playing pretend?” You chuckle. “Must've hurt like a bitch when reality slapped you in the face.”
There's a light tremble in the kid's hands as he tries and fails to muster a smile that falls hilariously flat. “L-Look—look, man,” he stammers, looking away and clutching his wrist with the other hand, subtly trying to skirt around you away from the counter. “It was—I messed up, I know that, and I—”
You don't let him finish. You don't care for his excuses. Instead, you shove him in the chest hard enough that he topples gracelessly to the floor in a heap. Your friends laugh a little louder, and you almost join in. This is their supposed hero?
“Then you got a lotta nerve showing up here like you didn't nearly start the apocalypse, buddy.” You snort again, sending his mask tails flying as he shuts his eyes against your breath. You lean down, lowering your voice into a growl for his ears alone.
“I speak for a lot of us when I say we're sick and tired of you freaks barging in here. We were fine until you showed up, acting like you belong. You ain't even true Yokai—word is you're a bunch of lab accidents that mad bastard Draxum cooked up. You weren't wanted then, and you're sure as hell aren't welcome now, so you'd best be on your way and not show your sorry shell around here again, you freaking pest—”
You have just enough time to watch Blue's eyes snap wide open, haunted and unseeing before a voice stops you cold.
“Hey.”
You lean back and turn around. The Purple one with the fake shell is stomping the distance between you, a look in his eyes that almost makes you think twice. Almost.
Beneath you, Blue is shaking. “D-Don,” he forces out in a choked voice. “You-you're meant to wait out—”
Purple walks right past you, not even looking at you, and kneels beside Blue, taking him by the shoulders, eyes roaming him up and down. “Are you alright? Are you injured?”
Blue looks at you briefly before looking away, utterly cowed. “'m fine.”
“You certainly do not look fine, seeing as you're on the floor, and my scanners picked up an abnormal heart rate increase. Was this fine gentleman responsible or am I misreading the situation again—?”
“Just drop it, Don. Tio's comin' back with our orders soon, so we'll split.”
You watch as Purple's drawn eyebrows (seriously, who does that?) furrow as he helps Blue to his feet. “Don't you wanna talk to Hueso? He hasn't seen you since your rehab started—”
“I know,” Blue snaps, looks like he regrets it, then hangs his head again, staring at the hand holding his wrist. You notice a blue cast under the drooping hoodie sleeve. “I know. But I just. I wanna go home. Okay?”
Purple stares.
You huff. “Better listen to your 'bro', here,” you say. “It's probably the first good idea he's had.”
Your last mistake is opening your mouth.
Purple turns very slowly and finally looks up at you. His expression is blank, unreadable, and even with all your height and strength, you admit it's slightly unsettling.
“I'm sorry,” Purple says, “who the hell are you?”
Behind him, Blue tentatively reaches for his hand and tugs it, whispering frantically—“It's not worth it, Dee, come on, don't make a scene, it's fine—”
Purple whirls on Blue. You can't see the face he's making, but it silences Blue instantly, his eyes wide. Your friends suddenly start whispering harshly at you to back up.
You ignore them, crossing your arms again so your muscles bulge. “Just a resident of the city your friend here nearly destroyed,” you say, riding the high of putting one more smug asshole in his place. It's high time he learned it.
Purple turns around again. He doesn't blink. “Is that so?” he asks.
“Donnie, please—“
“Nardo, I am invoking my rights as the eldest twin to silence you while I have a civil conversation with this good gentleman slash bull-guy,” Purple says in a clipped tone. He slips his hand from Blue's and steps forward until he's toe to hoof with you. He barely reaches your chest, and you almost laugh. “Would you care to elaborate on what you were talking to my brother about?”
You're more than happy to. “Just giving some friendly advice. You all talk a big game, but there's a thing called growing up and taking responsibility. Sooner or later, you'll have to put your toys away and realize real life isn't a game. You don't play hero and expect praise or thanks when things don't go how they do in your video games. That's how little pests like him get—”
Between one breath and the next, Purple grabs the edge of an unoccupied table, ripping it off its hinges and slamming you in the face.
The world goes white for a moment, a ringing in your ears. Warmth leaks down your lip and clogs your nose, and one of your horns feels worryingly loose. The ringing fades, and you realize the restaurant is silent.
You blink once, twice, and on the third blink, you see Purple standing over you with a chair lifted above his head by the legs. His face is murderous.
“Wait—!”
Purple brings the chair down on you with enough force to rattle the bones in your arms as you shield your bleeding face. He swings again, hitting your shoulder. He swings again at your knee, again at your head. Heedless of your cries or the shouts from the wait staff, the chair comes down again and again and again and again, each time a little harder, until the chair finally explodes in a shower of splinters.
You're an aching mess of bruises curled up on the floor, arms over your head like a child. You dare to peek, and Purple is panting hard, a single chair leg in his vice-like grip. Behind him, Blue stares with impossibly wide eyes.
Then Purple raises his head to pierce you with a glare. He stomps a foot on your side, and a pixelated wave of purple energy swirls around his arm, turning the chair leg into a glowing staff that he thrusts under your chin, right against your throat. You don't dare to move an inch even as breathing becomes difficult.
“You seem grossly misinformed, so allow me to do what is typical of my generation and educate you,” he says, his dead monotone belying the bloodlust in his gaze as he holds yours tighter than the staff in his hands. “My brother is sixteen. He is sixteen, and he made a mistake. One he would not have made had he known, had any of us known, what was at stake. But we didn't. He didn't, and he nearly died trying to make things right. Think about that for a second. My sixteen-year-old twin brother nearly killed himself to right a wrong and save not just New York or the Hidden City, but the whole freaking world.”
The tip of the bo presses harder against your neck. You splutter, fighting for breath.
“And you,” Purple hisses, “have no right to judge him. But alas, you were, as stated previously, grossly misinformed. So I will let you off with a warning.”
He leans in close enough that you can see the sparks of purple flashing in his golden eyes like lightning, and you're as stiff as a rabbit under the claws of a hawk. “If you ever come near my brother again—if you even look at him funny, you or your peanut gallery over there, I will hunt you down and reduce you to atoms. And I'll take your stupid freaking horns and hang them on my wall, or use them as mugs, as that seems to be popular with D&D fans. Either way, you will cease to exist, and no one will miss you when you're gone. Are we clear?”
You nod as best as you can, not trusting your voice—it's gotten you in enough trouble—and Purple finally takes the pressure off your neck, removing his foot from your side. You gasp greedily for air, sitting up on your elbows and rubbing your throat, your body throbbing.
Purple has already turned back to Blue, and Hueso's chosen now of all times to come running out, followed closely by one of the servers, a harried-looking dragon yokai. He takes one look at the room, one look at you, before whirling on Purple, speaking in rapid-fire Spanish that you couldn't understand if you tried. Purple wraps an arm around Blue and replies, also in Spanish, in that same dead monotone. Hueso looks at Blue, and something softens in his expression.
Only for it to harden again when he turns to you, bleeding from the face, still on the floor and littered with bruises and splinters of wood. Your friends finally get off their asses and help you up just in time for Hueso to march over and give you all the tongue-lashing of your lives for harassing young customers. You almost fire back, but Purple is watching you. You see your death in his flashing eyes and shut your mouth.
You're escorted out with a warning of a lifetime ban, utterly cowed under the stares of the patrons and the resentful glares of servers as you walk out the door. You feel Purple's eyes on you the whole time, and only when the mystic door swings shut can you breathe again.
You didn't think anything would scare you more than the Krang had, though you never actually saw them. But Purple's threat looms over your head and echoes in your ears, and you wonder.
You don't go back to Run of the Mill again.

Hi love, absolutely adored your Matilda imagine with Harry! Could you do one where y/n has a really bad day and comes home and just breaks down? Like maybe a panic attack. And harry just holds her and soothes her. Lots of tears and skin on skin please 🥺
I had the most sad day of my life. This would mean the world. Your writings really helped though! Anyway, love you ! 🌻😌🥰
i'm here- harry styles
Tumblr media
summary: you break down after having an awful day, but harry is there to comfort you.
word count: 1k
pairing: harry styles x reader
warnings: mild swearing, panic attack
a/n: thank you so much! i hope you're having better days now :)
in through your nose, out through your mouth.
that’s what you told yourself in a desperate attempt to calm yourself. everything seemed to be piling up on you recently. harry was busy with his tour, so he was rarely home. although you’d grown used to the distance, it had just upset you today. one of your friends had made a comment about it when you went out to lunch in the afternoon and it had been lingering in your head all day. on top of that, you’d seen hate comments about yourself on social media in the morning. finally, when you somewhat got over it and decided not to let it ruin your day, you were bombarded with paparazzi. the incessant clicking of the shutters and the many people talking over each other set you off. you’d let out an annoyed “fuck off” and immediately regretted it. you knew it wasn’t the right thing to do and the whole drive home you’d been worrying about the repercussions of your slip-up. then, to top it all off, one of harry’s songs began playing on the radio, reminding you of how much you missed him.
so there you were, frantically trying to get your key into the keyhole, which proved to be difficult with your forming tears blurring your vision. your breathing was more laboured as you tried to hold everything in, but the minute the lock clicked and you were inside, the tears came flowing out. you slumped down a nearby wall and began to cry. your elbows rested on your knees as you held your hands up to your face. you sobbed right there in that spot for a couple minutes before you heard a car pull into the driveway. you tried to stop crying, but that just resulted in you breathing even harder. you could feel your heart pounding intensely in your chest. every noise seemed to tick you off even more.
harry pushed the door open and immediately called your name.
“y/n?” he said, his voice full of skepticism and worry as he wondered why the door wasn’t locked.
when he closed the door, he was able to see you fully. he rushed to your side and crouched to your height.
“what’s wrong? what happened?” he asked, voice full of worry.
“nothing. everything,” you mumbled through breaths.
“it’s okay, i’m here,” he said, not pushing any further.
he sat on the floor next to you before moving you so you were between his legs. he took his shirt off, so you could feel his skin against your back that was exposed through the backless top you were wearing. you couldn’t hold it in anymore and began crying again. his hands rubbed your arms up and down and he shushed you calmingly. he waited until your cries weren’t so intense before asking what was wrong.
“everything, everything happened,” you began, through tears, “first, i went out to lunch with my friends and then one of them said that if you really cared about me, you’d try to see me more.”
“what?” he asked softly.
“and so i was worried that it was true. why me, harry? you could be with anyone, you could be with someone 10x better than me,” you vented, your cries getting more intense as you relived the day. all the crying had started to give you a headache.
“you’re the best, y/n. there’s no one better for me than you. i love you so, so much. if i could be here with you every moment of every day, i would, i promise,” he reassured you, “was that it?”
“no,” you said softly, “i was on tiktok and i came across this video about us, and the girl was really nice, but i was looking through the comments and…”
“y/n…” harry said, knowing what you were going to say.
“i know, h, i’m sorry. i just got carried away. at first it was all nice, and then it took a turn and everything was mean and hurtful, insults left and right,” you cried.
“none of that’s true, never listen to them. they’re never right. they’re just upset that i got the most perfect person in the world to be mine,” he complimented. even without looking at him, you could tell he was smiling slightly.
you fell into his arms a little more, your head rested on his bicep.
“and then…” you were about to continue.
“oh no, there’s more?” harry said, giving you a small smile.
“yeah,” you said, giggling lightly through tears.
“oh, baby,” he said pitifully, placing a kiss on your temple.
“i know,” you teased, “the paparazzi started following me and i was so fed up with it that i told them to fuck off. i’m sorry. and then, when i was in the car, you started playing on the radio and it just reminded me of how much i missed you.”
the end of your sentence had come out as more of a whine. you reminded yourself he was right there next to you and burrowed yourself into his arms more.
“you told the paparazzi to fuck off?” he asked.
“yeah, i’m sorry. are you mad?” you asked wearily.
“no, why would i be mad?” he asked.
“i don’t know, bad publicity?” you said quizically.
“they deserve it. plus, i can’t blame you. you’re having an awful day,” he said.
“mhm,” you hummed, now completely done crying.
“are you feeling any better now?” he asked.
“now that you’re here, yes,” you answered.
you let yourself rest for a couple more minutes until your breathing had gone back to its original pattern. your eyelids began to feel heavy, but before you could fall asleep, you heard harry grunt as he tried to get up.
“lets get you some water and an advil, yeah?” he said, offering his hand to you.

Dude, and I wish so badly that 3d Pixar films could be more expressive in sooooo much, but they really have come a long way from characters from toy story and frozen, yanno?? I love animation of all kinds. It's depressing to understand how little support 3d animators are getting from their big companies 🫠
Yes, exactly! Like to be fair to Frozen and Toy Story, Pixar kind of wrote the book on 3D animation, and usually they're doing something brand new with the medium in each movie they release - I'm p sure Frozen and other movies made around that time were at the height of the push for photorealism in 3D animation - video games too. We were starting to have graphics cards powerful enough and monitors sharp enough to run and view more and more complicated models with wayyy more polygons onscreen at a time, so we end up with media emphasizing these technical skill challenges, trying to show off the latest in cutting edge tech...as opposed to making something more artistically expressive and emotional the way you can with more cartoonish styles.
But oh my god, we have come such a long way since Frozen and Toy Story - I just think of like...Puss in Boots 2 and Into the Spiderverse?? Gorgeous animation, intense action that makes full use of the medium. Masterpieces OwO and I wish more projects could emphasize the story being told and how to best make use of the tools at hand rather than be shuttered by behind-the-scenes politics 😔

How to Build a Cape Cod Colonial in The Sims 4 Like a Nerd
Tumblr media
She smol, she sweet, she can't be beat - it's the classic Cape Cod. Of course, Americans have supersized everything, but this Colonial home started quite small. Sometimes as tight as only two rooms on the first floor and an open space upstairs for sleeping, this home was first built in the 1690s in the Cape Cod area of Massachusetts. It has maintained its popularity over the centuries and you can still find new constructions borrowing heavily from this style. Let's build!
Like all the homes in this series, there is a full video tutorial available here. It is base game only and beginner friendly!
What makes the Cape Cod such an icon? The small stature, narrow gables, white-and-black theme, and cozy inside probably. I have never had the pleasure of visiting one in person but even scrolling through the floorplans made me smile. They're just so cute! Plus the incredibly simple design makes this a great homes for beginners to practice building with.
Floorplan
Like most Colonial era homes, you are going to start with a rectangle. If you want the upper floor useable, you'll want your main floor to be at least nine tiles deep, and not more than about 12-14. Same goes for width, as these are generally small homes. You will want to stick with short walls for both stories. You can expand by adding on rooms on the side and back, or really however you want. It is a video game. But for accuracy, if you like the Cape Cod but want something a bit bigger, I would recommend checking out the Georgian Colonial or even the Dutch Colonial. The first floor will at the very least be split in two with a kitchen and dining area on one side and the entry and living space on the other. Larger homes will have space to separate the dining and kitchen, as well as add a bathroom and bedroom or office space. You will want a back door, and placing a hallway straight down the middle front door to back door is one of the easier ways to split this home up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once you have settled on the size of your first floor, you will draw the second floor matching up with the main floor on the ends but three tiles in from the front and back. You will add evenly spaced one-tile-wide dormers along each side. I placed the stairs pretty strategically here to take up one of the dormers. You can use stairs or a ladder, and split up the rooms or not.
Tumblr media
Exterior
By using short height walls and keeping the second floor in three tiles from the front and back, you have made roofing incredibly easy for yourself as you can simply place a half gable along each side. The top will have a large gable and some small ones for the dormers, again just left at the default pitch, and after you add a chimney you're done. For extra points you can add a small gable over the front door. Of course you can do custom dimensions and pitches, but this keeps things simple.
Tumblr media
For siding you are pretty much using white, windows will be double hung and have black shutters, and keep the front symmetrical. You might have a small foundation, but often there will be none.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like the rest of the build, landscaping will be pretty simple. Stick with small organic layouts with local plants close to the house. Brick paths are most common. If you want to add a small cover over the front door, you can use a gable or half gable and simple squared columns.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interior
Inside colors are pretty much white and wood. Rooms can be connected via arches or doors, and the fireplace will go on an interior wall toward the center of the build. (You can tell a Cape Cod from a Cape Cod Revival often by chimney placement, as newer homes have them on the sides.) The kitchen can end up being a pretty decent size, and this dining room will be adjacent.
Tumblr media
Since bathrooms are often retrofitted in these homes, unless you're going for new construction vibes, stick it where it fits. It will be light and basic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you want your home to feel like it has been built recently or just renovated, consider these tips:
Keep the silhouette, but update the siding, columns, and windows
Add color inside, but keep it soft and bright
Raise the house up (because that's easy in a game) and add a deck, breaking up the roofline and silhouette a bit, but not too much
If you like my version, it is available on the gallery! My ID is sahmandbean and the lot title is Cape Cod Shell.
If you want more information, reference images, or floorplans, I have a great starting point here in my Pinterest board.
You can also check out the whole video here.

Thanks for building with me today! Can't wait to build together again soon :)

Little Pet P2
Tumblr media
Media: IRL
Character: Thomas Brodie Sangster
Couple: TBS X Reader
Rating: Sexy
Concept: A Princesses Pet
I followed without resistance, I didn't know where I was going but it had to be better the some dungeon to die. Even if it meant o was some princesses pet. We climbed this long spiral staircase and all the while I was getting more and more nervous. At times she glanced back to me that sweet bubbly innocent smile seeming to have vanished. Once we reached the top of the stairs there was a door she opened it and for a moment I was unsure what to expect. I imagined a large suite with white lace and pink frills the perfect princess bedroom that little girls dream off. But she grabbed my chain an forced me inside so hard I landed and scuffed up my knees across the floor, and I looked around the room. It was a large impressive suite with a walk in wardrobe, full bathroom, mini library and a bedroom all together on one open space. With three tall arched windows with huge black wooden shutters. Everything in the room was black and purple with dark wooden gothic styling, the large wooden canopies bed with sheer and opaque purpose curtains, the black clawfoot bathtub, the metal spiral staircase to the mini library, purple wallpaper with a pattern of flying bats. I turned back to look at her and she smirked evily shutting the door behind us. And I yulped. Maybe I would been better in the dungeon. She moved tugging me with her and I put up a little more resistance but she was strong, strong enough to pull me to the other side of the bed without much thought. She sat on the edge of the bed and smiled at me playing with my hair. "Hello pet" "Hello" I answered back "Aww he does talk" she smiled "does my pet come with a name?" "Thomas" "Hummmm. I think we shall call you puppy" she smiled "are you going to be a good puppy?' she asks and I didn't answer "perhaps you should know what happened to my last pets" she smiled tugging my chain taking me out one of the windows was infact a door that lead to a balcony and she forced me by my hair to look down immediately getting vertigo from the height, as we looked down to the castle gardens where a graveyard sat with many headstones one in fact a groundsman was still filling in with earth "This is... just your pets?" "Ummm my little puppies kittens and other little pets who didn't behave themselves" she smiled "so? Is my puppy going to be a good boy?" "Yes." I nodded mostly from fear "Yes what?" She asks pulling my hair harder "Yes princess" "Good. Now come come pup. You need a bath" she says tugging me back inside. And heading to the bathroom where she began to run a bath "ERICA!" she screams at the top of her lungs making me admittedly jump and second's later a woman ran in dressed in a maids uniform "Yes my lady" "I want an indoor and outdoor bed, a blanket made for my new pet. And being him some new tubs I don't want to reuse my last puppies things, he made such a mess of them" she told her "Yes my lady" she nods coming over to me getting a tale measure from her pocket and measuring me before scurrying off again, but now the bath was ready "Take it off" "What?" "You can take a bath with your clothes on" "But i-" "Already causing trouble?" She glared "No princess. I- I'll be good" I sighed Taking off what like shards of clothes I still had leaving me naked much to her amusement "Come on puppy" she cooes I did as she asked climbing into the almost boiling bath, it hurt to sit in but at the very least I'd be clean, she was vicious with her scrubs caring little for my whines and complains of pain caring Not for my bruises and cuts simply scrubbing me with soap "Awww look how pretty he is under all that dirt" she smiled Once done she forced me to climb out not giving me a towel or anything to cover myself with, I did try and use my chained hands to give myself a little dignity but she slapped my hands away circling me like a vulture "Cute" she smiled slapping my butt "Hey!" I complain "can I atleast have some clothes?" "Pets don't wear clothes that would be silly" she smiled Immediately the door opened to the same woman, with many items in hand one of them she immediately put outside the other she offered to the princess, she told the woman to the corner of the room beside her bed and began setting things up, what I wasn't sure and quickly the maid left "Here we are pet" she smiled tugging on the chain bringing me to the corner where now sat on the floor a large cushioned bed in the corner of the walls, a blanket draped over it, a silver tray with two bowls one full of water the other had bread and cheese, she smiled and clipped the end of the chain into a ring above the bed leaving me with little choice but to sit on it like a dog. I hated it. It was degrading! Being forced to sleep on a literal dog bed and eat out of bowls like an animal. But on the other side, I was starving. So I took the bread quickly eating most of it "Good boy" she cooes playing with my hair "such a good little puppy" she smiled "now you be a good boy and stay right here while I go see daddy" she smiled giving my head a kiss before she hurried of out locking the door behind her. And I sighed "well. I guess this is my life now." I sighed wrapping my blanket around me.

PALE SKETCHER — “GOLDEN SKIN”
Pre-order now: link
Written and recorded primarily between 2009-2013, Golden Skin was originally slated for release on Richard D. James’ (Aphex Twin) Rephlex Records prior to it shuttering, and it evokes fond memories of the height of experimentation in IDM/braindance while still resonating heavily with the here and now. Unearthed and completed by Broadrick specifically for its unveiling on GIVE/TAKE, the full-length album reveals itself as a devastatingly beautiful and essential new entry in the artist’s repertoire. Dripping with smart style, shimmering electronics, and complex dream-like vocal sampling, Golden Skin propels the listener through a truly heavy, affecting experience, bordering on ecstatic, from the LP’s melancholy, yet hyper-breaks driven opener “Today,” to the minimal and dusty trip-hop-laden finale “Hymn for Light.”

Unveiling The Qualities Of The Best Shutters In Sydney
Tumblr media
Shutters are an integral part of home design, offering not only aesthetic enhancement but also functional benefits such as privacy, light control, and insulation. In Sydney, where homes range from historic cottages to modern apartments, selecting the best shutters can significantly impact both the appearance and comfort of living spaces. This article delves into the unique qualities that distinguish the best shutters available in Sydney, helping homeowners make informed decisions.
1. Durability and Material Quality
The best shutters in Sydney are crafted from high-quality, durable materials that can withstand the region’s varying climate conditions. Timber shutters, made from hardwoods like basswood or cedar, offer excellent durability and a timeless aesthetic. For those seeking low-maintenance options, aluminium and PVC shutters provide robust alternatives that resist warping, cracking, and fading. The choice of material should align with the specific needs of the home, whether it’s for indoor or outdoor use.
2. Customisation and Fit
Sydney’s diverse architectural styles necessitate shutters that can be customised to fit unique window shapes and sizes. The best shutter providers offer bespoke solutions, ensuring that each shutter is tailored to the exact dimensions and specifications of the windows. This custom fit not only enhances the visual appeal but also improves functionality, providing better light control and insulation. From arched to circular windows, top-quality shutters are designed to complement any architectural feature seamlessly.
3. Versatile Design Options
A hallmark of the best shutters is the availability of versatile design options. Homeowners in Sydney can choose from various styles such as plantation shutters, café-style shutters, and full-height shutters. Plantation shutters are particularly popular for their elegant look and practicality, allowing precise control over light and airflow. Café-style shutters cover only the lower portion of the window, offering privacy while maintaining an open view from the top. The ability to select from a range of styles, finishes, and colours ensures that the shutters enhance the home’s interior and exterior aesthetics.
4. Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency is a significant consideration for Sydney homeowners looking to reduce their energy bills and create a more sustainable living environment. The best shutters provide excellent insulation, helping to keep homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Shutters with adjustable louvres allow homeowners to regulate the amount of sunlight entering the home, reducing the need for artificial heating and cooling. This energy efficiency contributes to a more comfortable home environment and can lead to substantial savings over time.
5. Ease of Maintenance
Maintenance is a crucial factor when choosing shutters. The best shutters are designed for easy cleaning and upkeep. Materials like PVC and aluminium are particularly low-maintenance, requiring only occasional wiping with a damp cloth to stay in pristine condition. Even wooden shutters, when properly sealed and treated, can offer long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance. The ease of cleaning and maintaining shutters is essential for busy homeowners who want to enjoy the benefits of shutters without the hassle.
The best shutters in Sydney combine durability, customisation, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal to enhance any home. By considering factors such as material quality, design versatility, ease of maintenance, and professional installation, homeowners can select shutters that not only meet their practical needs but also elevate their living spaces. As Sydney’s architectural landscape continues to evolve, the demand for high-quality, stylish, and functional shutters remains strong, making them a wise investment for any property.

The Price of Elegance: Understanding the Cost of Plantation Shutters
Plantation shutters are renowned for their timeless beauty, versatility, and ability to enhance the aesthetic appeal of any home. However, many homeowners are often curious about the cost associated with installing these classic window treatments. From material choices to customization options, several factors influence the overall cost of plantation shutters. Let's delve into the various aspects that contribute to the pricing of plantation shutters to help you make informed decisions for your home.
1. Material Selection: The choice of material significantly impacts the cost of plantation shutters. Common materials include wood, vinyl, and composite.
Wood: High-quality hardwoods like basswood or cedar are prized for their durability and natural beauty, but they tend to come with a higher price tag due to their premium quality.
Vinyl: Vinyl shutters are a more affordable alternative to wood, offering durability and resistance to moisture at a lower cost. While they may lack the warmth and authenticity of wood, vinyl shutters are an excellent option for budget-conscious homeowners.
Composite: Composite shutters combine the benefits of both wood and vinyl, offering the look of wood with the durability of vinyl. While they may be more expensive than vinyl, composite shutters are typically more affordable than solid wood options.
2. Size and Shape: The size and shape of your windows play a crucial role in determining the cost of plantation shutters. Larger windows or non-standard shapes, such as arches or bay windows, may require custom-made shutters, which can increase the overall cost. Standard-sized windows may offer more affordable options, as ready-made shutters are readily available and easier to install.
3. Customization Options: Customization options such as finish, color, and style can also affect the price of plantation shutters.
Finish and Color: Custom finishes or paint colors may incur additional charges, especially if you opt for a specialized or non-standard color.
Style: Different styles of plantation shutters, such as full-height, cafe-style, or tier-on-tier, come with varying price points. More elaborate styles may require additional materials and labor, resulting in a higher cost.
4. Installation: The cost of installation is another factor to consider when budgeting for plantation shutters. While some homeowners may opt for DIY installation to save money, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper fit and functionality. Professional installation costs can vary depending on factors such as the number of windows, the complexity of the installation, and your location.
5. Brand and Quality: The brand and quality of the plantation shutters also play a significant role in determining the cost. Established brands known for their craftsmanship and durability may command higher prices than lesser-known brands or budget options. Investing in high-quality shutters can pay off in the long run, as they are likely to last longer and require less maintenance over time.
6. Additional Features: Certain additional features, such as hidden tilt rods, motorization, or specialty hardware, can add to the cost of plantation shutters. While these features offer added convenience and functionality, they may come with an additional price tag.
7. Warranty and Guarantee: The inclusion of warranties or guarantees can also influence the cost of plantation shutters. Some manufacturers offer extended warranties or satisfaction guarantees, which may come with an added cost but provide peace of mind knowing that your investment is protected.
8. Location: The cost of plantation shutters can vary depending on your location and the local market conditions. Urban areas or regions with higher living costs may have higher prices for materials and labor, while rural areas or regions with lower living costs may offer more competitive pricing.
In conclusion, the cost of plantation shutters can vary depending on factors such as material selection, size and shape, customization options, installation, brand and quality, additional features, warranty and guarantee, and location. While plantation shutters may require a significant upfront investment, many homeowners find that their durability, versatility, and timeless appeal make them a worthwhile investment in the long run. By considering these factors and working with reputable suppliers and installers, you can ensure that you get the best value for your budget when investing in plantation shutters for your home.
