Femme Fatale Guide: Top Career Tips To Set Yourself Up For Success
Figure out where your skills and passions align. Then determine the lifestyle/work culture you thrive in and what sacrifices you're willing to make in your chosen career path (for some, it's always traveling/talking to people 24/7, working late hours, unpredictable/unconventional hours, potentially lower pay/less predictable income, etc.). It truly depends on your top values, your personality, and your goals/priorities in life.
First focus on getting incredibly talented at your craft. Find a mentor(s) who will push you with their feedback/suggestions. Take classes/skills courses/read books & articles to gain more applicable knowledge/hard skills. Join clubs, apply to internships, volunteer, and request informational interviews in your desired field.
Make your skills marketable. Create a professional resume and/or neat portfolio/collection of work samples. Discover and articulate your USP (that should essentially serve as the backbone of your elevator pitch). Frame your skills through a customer/business-centric lens. How does your experience/skillset solve their problems and help a company/client achieve their goals?
Build a network for yourself. Don't be shy to reach out to companies/individuals who inspire you. Speak with your secondary school teachers and professors for connections. Create peer-to-peer networks, too, so you can grow together. Be a fearless networker and connector. Help others, do favors, and make the person glad they met/hired you. Make it your objective to be memorable through your work ethic/providing high-quality work products and showing up with a motivated & overall positive attitude allows people to like and trust you with their time, clients, money, etc.
Master the art of a killer email/cold pitch. Especially in today's world, learning how to sell yourself through intriguing emails/LinkedIn messages is the key to unlocking potential success. One client or opportunity can create momentum that will be useful years down the line, too.
When in doubt, follow up – on an email, pitch, job opportunity, connection, etc.
Be ruthless and relentless with your research. For new contacts, connections, opportunities, and information to support your pitches/job interviews/networking conversations, new technologies, and trends within your field. Read everything credible you can get your hands on. Display working knowledge and practical applications of these concepts and how they can benefit the person in front of you/their business.
Create systems. For how you structure emails/pitches, conduct research, different types of workflows/ work template structures for different types of projects, time-blocking, client funnels, etc.
Get comfortable with rejection. Use it as a primer for self-reflection and refining your craft/processes or help you pivot your approach to help you achieve your goals. Never take business decisions on behalf of a company personally (and vice versa).
Give yourself breaks, but don't give up. Tapping out for good is the only surefire way to fail at an endeavor. Be flexible in your path, but zeroed in on your goal(s). Learn when to quit or pivot, and when it's time to coast or seek growth.

This Wet Beast Wednesday I'm going to talk about gars. This needs some clarification because there are a lot of different fish called gar, garfish, or garpike. I'm referring to fish of the family Lepisostidae, the only surviving members of the ancient clade Ginglimodi, which I mostly brought up because Ginglimodi is a funny name.
Tumblr media
(image: a longnose gar)
Gars are predatory fish found exclusively in North and Central America, though they have been introduced outside of their native range. Their ancestors evolved in Triassic period and once occupied most of North America and large portions of Europe back when the continents were still connected. They are freshwater fish, though a few species will go into brackish or even marine waters temporarily. The name "gar" is though to come from the old english word for "spear", which is appropriate as gar are very elongated fish and often have pointy snouts. Many other groups of elongated fish are also given the common name of gar or garfish for this reason. Their long snouts are filled with sharp teeth which are used to crush through shells and flesh. Gars are opportunistic predators who feed largely on crustaceans, frogs, and fish and will eat carrion if they find it. The long snouts are also used to dig through sediment in search of prey They move slowly through the water, but are capable of short bursts of speed to catch prey. Most species are apex predators with no natural predators as adults.
Tumblr media
(image: a longnose gar with mouth open, displaying the teeth)
The body of a gar is covered with thick, diamond-shaped scales. Their scales are an ancient variety known as ganoid scales which are notable for their shape and composition. Where most bony fish scales have layers of a spongy, bony substance called cosmene, ganoid scales instead have an enamel-like substance called dentine, which is also a component in teeth. The scales are also covered in a rigid, glassy substance called ganoine where other scales use enameloid. Ganoid scales also don't overlap, instead laying next to each other in a manner that provided protection while still allowing flexibility. The result is a suit of armor that makes gar very durable. Because of how durable the scales are, they habe been used by humans for many purposes. Multiple Native American groups would use scales as arrowheads, there are reports of native Caribbean peoples wearing breastplates made of gar skin, and Europeans colonists would layer their plow heads with the scales to protect the,. There is currently a market for jewelry made of the scales.

Gar typically lay their eggs in early spring, with the female coating vegetation with thousands of sticky eggs. The eggs are toxic to humans, capable of causing sickness when ingested. Because of this, they are unsuitable for caviar. Scientists initially thought that the toxin was an adaptation to prevent predation, but natural predators of the eggs like channel catfish and bluegill are immune. Crayfish are affected by the eggs, though it's not clear if the poison is an adaptation targeting them or not.
Tumblr media
(image: a shortnose gar)
The swim bladder of gar is highly vascularized, allowing them to act as lungs. Most gar will surface occasionally to take a gulp of air. While they are capable of surviving on their gills alone in good-quality water, air gulping allows gar to thrive in low-oxygen water where their prey will be sluggish from oxygen deprivation. Most species live around 20 years, but the alligator gar can live upwards of 70 years.
Tumblr media
(image: a spotted gar)
There are seven living species of Gar: the Cuban gar, tropical gar, spotted gar, longnose gar, shortnose gar, Florida gar, and alligator gar. The shortenose gar is the smalles species, reaching an average length of 62.5 cm (24.6 in) while the alligator gar is the largest species and one of the largest of all American freshwater fish at an average length of 1.8 m (6 ft) in length. The largest alligator gar on record measured in 2.57 m (8 ft 5 in) and 148 kg (327 lbs). Alligator gar were long considered a nuisance species by fishermen as they preyed on sportfish and as a result, they were frequently killed. This resulted in population losses and the fish being extirpated from many states it was once native to. Now multiple states have laws and regulations protecting them and the population is starting to see a resurgence. Alligator gar and now a popular sportfish and have been introduced to places outside of their native range, becoming an invasive species in many areas including China.
Tumblr media
(image: two fishermen with an alligator gar)
Gar meat is edible and is described as having a very unique taste compared to other fish meat. They are not commonly eaten in modern times, but some people consider them a delicacy. Gar meat is known to carry environmental toxins like pollutants and heavy metals, which can make eating them risky. Gar are mostly fished for their scales or for sport. Only the Cuban car is endangered (and critically so) while other species may be locally endangered, but as a whole are not threatened. Gar are used as aquarium fish due to their unique appearance, though they need large tanks due to their size.

Hello, dear. I hope you are doing well. Might I make a Miguel x fem!reader request?
So, for context.
I had this idea today when I was sketching out someone's spidersona to practice anatomy and I couldn't find any good references for the poses I wanted to do. I just so happen to also be an aerialist so I immediately changed into some work out clothes and hung up my aerial silks onto my rig.
I was able to film myself doing the exact poses I wanted to draw on the silks to use as a reference.
This all kinda made me realize how similar aerial silks is to web swinging. And it gave me this juicy idea.
Scenario where the reader is the charismatic, flirtatious, and quippy owner of a popular, high-class nightclub in universe 2099. She is a bit more hands on than normal owners because she actually performs at her own club. The theme for the night is "superhero nite". She is the final performer of the night and is in a skin tight feminized outfit of Miguel's spiderman costume. She gives a sultry aerial silks performance on stage that includes both aerial silks and interacting with the audience (think Jessica Rabbit). Taking photos, walking across tables, giving men a run for their money. Paired with displays of extreme strength and flexibility as she weaves between the fabric silks effortlessly and gracefully.
It also just so happens that Miguel himself is there for that performance either scouting out the location or tracing a lead on a series of crimes that seem to center around this night club. So he gets to personally witness this hedonistic performance in his image. Idk I just think his reaction to it all would be juicy 🤣. Especially if the reader spots him in the crowd mid performance or after the fact and decides to approach and make a spectacle out of it.
Thank you for your time! You're really good at keeping Miguel in character and I really appreciate it.
sacred silk — MIGUEL O'HARA
Tumblr media
☆ you're a quaint little owner on your own little stage, unfortunately your club has drawn some attention from nueva york's #1 vigilante.
tension packed. romantic. miguel is miguel. i loved this request sm! i added my own little spin to it so i hope that's okay ^_^ dividers by @/cafekitsune
Tumblr media
Kingpin's lackeys have been scattered all around the city, not much of a problem for Miguel. The only issue being that they're planted in the most densely packed areas, markets, malls, sometimes churches when you thought he couldn't get any worse. It caused Miguel's frustrations to deepen with every single case.
At least, there was some sort of pattern in the locations of these agents. All up until this very night where Miguel found himself crouching over the glass roof of a tranquil night club.
His sharp eyes wandered over what he could find. The crowd looked young, nobody over the age of 27 in sight, there was a bartender hastily serving drinks, but the most eyecatching of them all was a rather suspicious looking old man enjoying himself a martini.
It looked... almost pathetic at this rate, however his suspicioums grew higher. This was too easy for a catch, there had to be something that he was missing in this.
"Lyla," Miguel muttered, holding his watch up close to his mouth. "What is this place exactly?"
"Can't find any records on it, I don't think that it's a registered establishment. How fun!"
Not fun. Not fun at all! The small crowd, the shady guy sitting alone at that table, the fact that this building wasn't even registered in the first place?! Crime bells were ringing in Miguel's ears.
He skittered along the edges of the roof, making sure that he isn't noticeable despite the dim lights. Soon enough, he's able to find an open panel to slip into. He digs his talons into one of the ceiling beams, which what even is the point of having a glass roof if the view is going to be obscured by these things anyway.
Miguel keeps his weight steady atop the structure, his gaze locks onto the creepy gentleman before he's blinded by the sudden flicker of the stage lights. What in the world?
When he thought that events couldn't get any weirder, you come flying down from a secret compartment in the ceiling, silk stringing your body up as you manuever and fly across the stage and club. The crowd cheers and livens up, raising their hands to which you respond by high fiving as many people as you can.
That's when he noticed something familiar about what you were wearing. The sharp geometric shapes carefully stitched into your suit, that recognizable navy blue, that straining bright red. You were wearing his colors, designed in his suit.
It's only when your feet hit the floor of stage with a resounding thud does Miguel remember why he's here in the first place, he's gotten used to seeing his face (well, his masked one) on all different kinds of merchandise. From regular to disgusting, but he's never seen something of this caliber before. He couldn't deny that he wasn't at all intrigued by your display of talent and costume.
"Thank you all for coming tonight," the breathlessness in your voice is prominent, a sign of your draining yet enamoring performance. "Do any of you want to guess who I'm dressed as?"
The crowd rallies and cheers.
"Spider-Man! Obviously!"
"Is there anyone stupid enough to not get it?"
"It's Spider-Man!"
Miguel rolls his eyes, don't get him wrong, he does want to appreciate the praise but everyone sounds like an overenthusiatic toddler. Depsite that, you feed into their firey spirits. Not before shushing them with a slight raise of your hand.
"I know you're all thinking why I decided to dress up as our beloved spider tonight," you reach for one of the silks hanging from the ceiling, resting your body atop it as you're slowly lifted from the stage again.
"Well, it's simple really. He's the hero of our city, the face of crime fighting, the face of justice." the crowd's heads follow your hanging body, your arm droops down to brush against the many hands that wish to touch yours. "He's made so many sacrifices for us, the least we could do is put on a show. All for him."
Miguel freezes for the nearly the entire duration of your heartfelt speech, he's overheard a lot of those whether it's a drunkard's rambling as he's swinging back home or on a podium and recited by a government official.
From the corner of his eye, the man that he was slowly inching towards rises from his seat and begins to slyly move through the crowd, bumping and slipping past people. When he enters through the backstage doors, all kinds of red flags are waving through the air.
The sudden blast of music nearly deafens him, but gives him a good distraction as he crawls with more fervor across the ceiling beam. He notices the small crevice to an entrance in the ceiling, presumably the one that you entered through.
It's dark and a little dusty, Miguel has to fight back a sneeze before finding yet another latch to enter through and behold, he's successfully infiltrated the backstage area!
"Lyla," he huffs. "Scan."
Bright yellow lights emerge in his vision, behind each room there's a bountiful amount of props and some people chatting with a drink in hand, it seemed like you weren't the only performer in this establishment. The thermal energy spikes when he catches sight of a man hunched behind one of the doors, supposedly with a crowbar in hand. Miguel rolls his eyes, "How dumb does he think I am?"
"Want me to run an IQ test?"
"I was being— ugh, nevermind."
Miguel shies over right next to the door, the blades hidden in his suit release with an audible shing. It cuts into the drywall without a struggle, Miguel can hear the man fall back onto the floor with a thud and a scream. He kicks his way into the room, before pouncing onto him and knocking him out cold.
"That was fast," Lyla chimes, illuminating the darkness. Miguel digs through the pockets of his coat, there's no sign of an ID, but he was carrying a shiv and a small revolver. How was this guy let in?
Miguel ties him up and makes a swift exit, before anyone could notice. This mission felt a little too easy for his liking, like a twist was going to sneak up on him at any minute now, but he wasn't going to complain about having an easy target this time.
His never ending train of thought brings him towards a building's edge later on, even deeper into the night. Waiting, thinking, contemplating. Miguel had no such thing as a spider sense, but he did have a gut and it was practically screaming at him that something was wrong.
He doesn't get any more time to let that thought marinate any further when his ears pick up on the latch of the door to the roof clicking, his head turns immediately he thinks he might strain it until he sees—
You.
Just you.
Though, you weren't wearing the same get-up when you had your show. No, you were in simply nightwear along with a flimsy pair of slippers and fuzzy socks to complete the look. That nonchalant attitude that you held during the show faded for a split second, before a small smile creeps onto your features as you raise a brow.
"Spider-Man? On my roofdeck?"
"I'll leave–"
"No!" you say it a little too loudly, reaching a hand out to him but never actually touching. You scold yourself internally for being too abrupt, before clearing your throat. "No, it's okay. Please stay."
Miguel sighs, as usual, he's going to make a decision that's going to kick him in the ass later. He gives in and decides to indulge your need for company, but the look on his face tells you to keep a distance.
You slowly walk over to the ledge that he's sitting on, leaning your body on the railing but still far enough to be comfortable.
Silence stretches out the distance between the two of you, that for once Miguel feels compelled to say something.
"There was someone suspicious at your club," he explains bluntly. "I took them out. You're welcome."
"Ah, yeah, I could tell from the webs and you know..."
"Oh."
Now, it's back to silence.
Miguel normally isn't disturbed by it, but this just made him uncomfortable. He thought that maybe you'd carry some bravado even outside your profession as a stage performer, he couldn't imagine that he'd end up talking that was so timid.
"I liked your performance," it's soft-spoken, his words fast and deliberate. "Your costume, too. It was... nice."
Even if the praise sounds like a 5th grader complimenting a painting, you found your face red and heart beating fast. Your grin returned with a "thank you". It's hard to tell exactly what Miguel's thinking under that mask, you can't even read his facial expression, but you hope that now it's less awkward.
It falls to silence again, the only difference being that there's no obligation for conversation. You and Miguel stare at the overhead view of the city from your penthouse, it gets so quiet that you swear you can hear him breathing.
He has to leave soon enough, he wished he could've stayed with you for longer because believe it or not, that's the only taste of peace he's had in a while. Your goodbyes are bittersweet, you don't know if you'll ever see him again.
When you're back on the stage again a few days later, hopping off of the platform and holding onto your silks, you're more than happy to that faint red glow coming from the glass panes on your roof.

Light-emitting textiles for diverse flexible and wearable displays
Textile research has highlighted the advances in electroluminescent threads as suitable biomaterials for driving growth in the wearable electronics market. While the direct embroidery of textiles with custom designs and patterns can offer substantial benefits, machine embroidery can challenge the integrity of these threads. In a new report of applied science and engineering published in Science Advances, Seungse Cho and a team of scientists in biomedical engineering and medicine in the U.S., present embroiderable, multicolor, electroluminescent threads in blue, green, and yellow, that show compatibility with standard embroidery methods. The researchers used the threads to stitch decorative designs onto a variety of consumer fabrics, without compromising their wearability or light-emitting capacity. The scientists illuminated specific messages or designs on the consumer products for the purpose of developing emergency alerts on helmet liners and as physical hazard signs.

I’ve come bearing more gifts! (Cause god am I fucking degenerate for the human kink tag)
Masked Human Leader! W/ Performer background, not just any kind of performer, a sexual dancer kind of performer~
Let me set the scene:
(Pre-Reveal) It’s a covert mission where they are all stuck in some underground club/bar for non-humans and they need some kind of distraction. Leader hesitantly tells them to give them an hour and they’d have the ideal distraction. About an hour later a human in scantily cladded clothing is on the stage now starting to dance.
They notice that instead of focusing on the objective the party’s eyes are all on the dancer who just so happens to be the leader. They just look so mesmerized with how their eyes just seem to follow the sway of their hips so perfectly with the music of the band behind them as they show off just how flexible and bendable they are.
It’s been forever since the leader had danced like this, they had forgotten how somewhat empowering it felt to see others especially nonhumans that typically looked down on them get so aroused by a few simply movements. It was almost funny seeing their party members not being able to think straight because of them. Maybe they could try teasing them? Making sure to keep eye contact with their party as they danced until one of them finally snaps out of it and gets the rest of them going.
Afterwards when the leader comes back to their group and asked what they thought about the distraction, they are immediately bombarded with questions about who that human was with the only answer being, “Just an old friend I ran into that I definitely owe big time next time I see them” before walking off.
Like hell that was going to satisfy them. That human was going to be the party’s masturbation material for gods know how long. Most of them are going to have wet dreams about that human for nights on end and pester the leader endlessly about the human for weeks, asking for at least an introduction only to be met with ‘no’.
Imagine their surprise that upon secretly seeing their leader disrobe that it’s that same damn dancer from before.
Imagine the revenge fucking they’re gonna pound into their leader for knowingly messing with them like that. Taunting and teasing them with that perfectly fuckable body, they’re going to have to pay them back tenfold.
-🦑anon
Amazing as always anon <333
I like to think the place they went to doesn't have any humans? Like bear with me, imagine a dance club for the most dangerous and shady criminals ever, it's full of drows, demons, duegers, orcs, and even some mindflayers. Just a place where all the races that are deemed "evil" and run the underground black market spend time.
And because of that, no human comes here, even the ones in the same line of work. They know better than to walk into a hungry den of wolves who haven't seen a human up close in so long.
So when the leader goes to the club stage manager, they barely have to do any convincing to get on the stage. Once they announced they were a human the dragonborn stage leader immediately canceled whoever was up next and sent the human to the changing room with a makeup team.
A human? In an underground club? This is actually unheard of. No way in hell they are wasting this opportunity especially when they have an important group of devils at the front seats tonight.
Literally the attention of everyone in the club gets stolen by the human who walks on stage with such tantalising clothes, the prettiest of makeup, and the most delicious looking body.
All eyes are on you, following the sway of your hips, from your toes to the top of your head everything is throughly watched and observed. You can see their hungry looks whenever your lewd clothes almost slip and expose more skin, whenever you bend a bit and your ass is more on display.
Fuck your party companions are especially stunned, they barely remember that their mission here was to observe the group of devils and sneak into the private vip room to gather evidence of their involvement with a new blackmarket trade.
The same eyes you've saw look at you before with nothing but utter respect and devotion, faces that would never even think of disobeying you. Now openly lust after your flesh, looking at you as if you were nothing but a delicious slap of meat, as if you being a human gave them every right in the world to ogle you openly.
And the contrast is even more apparent when you walk off stage and come back to join them in your cloaked form, they're embarrassed by their leader seeing them lusting after a person so openly so they avoid your gaze.
Clear their throat and try to act with some dignity, asking you who that human was, do you know them? How did you get them to agree to do this and....maybe can you bring them along one day?
You wave them off, tell them they're none and it's nothing. But even later that day they keep bringing it up, saying you've definitely slept with that human before if you managed to get them to convince them to do that so easily, pestering you about how the human felt, how did their moans sound?
As their leader, it only takes a stern "stop" for them to immediately drop the subject and respect your authority, still you hear them talking about it amongst themselves.

Ao3 Masterlist
The sun was shining, the air was crisp with the promise of fall, and the smell of freshly baked goods wafted around the girl casually strolling the aisles of vendors at the autumn market.
Buckets of wildflowers added pops of colour, various species of gourds provided visual texture, and the sound of leaves crunching underneath her light stride put a spring in her step.
Hefting the bag on her back, loaded with goods from the many vendors she’d stopped by, she paused to watch a demonstration by a young woman around her age, who was explaining fashion in the late 19th century.
Several replica pieces hung on racks in her booth, and a couple women were trying on jackets and bonnets eagerly.
“Excuse me!” The young woman waved at her, and she walked over, curious. “What’s your name?”
“Cass.”
“Cass, it’s nice to meet you!” the woman smiled warmly, her cheeks a pretty blush from the cool breeze. “I’m Marinette. Would you be my model for the bicycle suit, to demonstrate how well it allowed for mobility?”
Cass nodded. “I do ballet.”
The girl grasped her hands dramatically, eyes practically hearts. “You do?! This is perfect! Thank you so much, Cass! My usual model is out sick today,” she mourned, gathering a pile of clothing and heading towards a small change stall. “Let me know if you need any help. The styles were a lot simpler as the fashions changed and drew inspiration from menswear, but they can still be confusing to someone who doesn’t typically wear antique clothing.” Cass nodded and entered the change stall, leaving her backpack behind Marinette's sales counter before she began to don the old-fashioned garments.
She emerged and looked questioningly at Marinette, who led her to her sales pitch circle.
“Here’s today’s model, Cass, who will show you how flexible the clothing really was!”
Cass started off with some basic stretches, warming up before she attempted grander moves. She preferred her proper ballet attire or looser clothing, but this wasn’t bad. The loose fabric was breathable and not very restrictive, so once she was sufficiently warmed up, she began some simple jumps and movements.
Marinette continued her spiel as Cass performed one of her favourite dances, the solo from Act I of Don Quixote. It was short, but had jumps, twirls, and kicks, which provided a good range of movements to show off the clothing.
Cass finished with a professional bow, looking at Marinette during the applause to see if she had liked it. She had a wide-eyed, smiling look on her face, so Cass guessed she had done a good job of promoting Marinette’s work.
Once the demonstration was over, Cass hung around examining the wares of Marinette’s booth. Some half-finished pieces were on display, Marinette showing the process of making historically accurate and comfortable clothing.
A gorgeously embroidered blouse with many small wildflowers and birds and ladybugs caught her eye, and Cass held it up to herself. Once it was completed, it would be the right size to fit her, she thought.
Marinette came over, her eyes sparkling. “Thank you so much for your demonstration, Cass! I just made at least three sales because of that. Oh, I love this blouse. The embroidery is a pain, but it’s so worth it. The prettiest things always take the longest and hardest to become that way, don’t they,” she mused. “Did anything else catch your eye, that I can get for you?”
Cass shook her head. “Just this.”
“If you give me your contact information, I can let you know when this is completed, if you’re still interested in it. I’ll give it to you for free after the help you’ve been today,” Marinette offered.
Cass pulled out a business card from the depths of her retrieved bag and handed it to Marinette.
“Will you need me to come in and try it to make sure it fits properly?”
Marinette smiled at her. “I might.”
~~~
Marinette set her pincushion down. “Alright, it’s all done, except for the finishing embroidery.”
“Can I add a flower?” Cass asked.
“Sure, what one do you want?”
“I need to research it first. Can I tell you tomorrow?”
“Okay,” Marinette agreed readily.
~~~
“Can I add another one?”
“Sure. Do you need to do more research?”
“Yes. Tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow works! Oh, do you want your reference flower back?”
“You keep it.”
“Thanks, Cass. See you tomorrow.”
~~~
“I’m going to miss embroidering these flowers,” Marinette mused as she clipped the loose threads off her latest addition to the blouse’s garden.
“I’ll buy you more,” offered Cass. “You can embroider more of my clothes if you want.”
Marinette laughed. “Thanks, Cass. I appreciate it. Want to add another blossom?”
“Of course. Tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow.”
~~~
“Another?”
“Yes.”
“Tomorrow, then.” ~~~
“Can I-”
“Yes!”
“Tomorrow.”
~~~
“One more?”
“Always,” Marinette grinned. “Tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow.”
~~~
“Hi, Cass! Be with you in a sec!” Marinette called from the depths of her shop the next afternoon, at two on the dot, as usual.
“Okay.”
Cass looked down at the stalk of tiny white flowers in her hand.
Marinette emerged, brushing the curtain to the back room out of her face (the one she always walked into), a smile on her lips.
Cass held out the flower for Marinette’s approval.
“Ooh, a mignonette! This would be pretty by the camellias on the lower right hem,” Marinette mused, pulling out the form with Cass’s blouse on it.
“So, any flower requests for tomorrow?” Marinette asked at the end of their session.
“No.”
Marinette’s smile dimmed a bit. “Oh, okay. Finally done with your garden? It’s actually been fun doing all this embroidery,” she looked at her handiwork sternly.
“Come with me to buy flowers tomorrow,” Cass asked.
“What?”
“I’ll buy you flowers, but you don’t have to embroider them anymore.”
Marinette’s eyes widened. “Are you asking me out?”
Cass nodded firmly. “Go on a date with me. Please?” She pulled out the puppy eyes Damian had perfected.
Marinette grinned widely. “Yes! Of course!”

Xiaomi 14 Xiaomi 14 Series Cameras The Leica-tuned cameras on the Xiaomi 14 series bring some exciting upgrades. The main 50MP sensor on the Pro model features a variable f/1.4-f/4.0 aperture for more flexibility. The new 50MP ultrawide camera promises improved quality. The telephoto camera uses a floating lens element for better edge-to-edge sharpness. New AI tricks like eye tracking autofocus and Night OIS should also help boost photography. We look forward to putting these new camera systems through their paces.
Tumblr media
Xiaomi 14 Series Software The latest Xiaomi 14 series introduces an exciting shift from MIUI to the new HyperOS. Running on Android 14 out of the box, HyperOS promises an improved user experience focused on four key areas: performance optimization, seamless connectivity, predictive intelligence, and robust security. While full details on HyperOS are yet to come, early reports suggest substantial AI and on-device neural processing. This enables advanced contextual awareness and personalization. Software support remains unconfirmed, but if last year's models are any indication, the Xiaomi 14 line should receive major OS updates for at least four years. Xiaomi 14 Series Availability The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro launched first in China, but global availability typically follows a couple months later. Pricing is also usually a bit lower for global markets. We expect the Xiaomi 14 series to compete head-to-head with the Galaxy S23 series in many regions later this year. The Xiaomi 14 in particular looks like excellent value if they can hit a competitive price point. In summary, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro bring some exciting upgrades and look very promising on paper. We can't wait to get them in hand for full reviews. They have a good chance of being the top Android flagships of 2023 if their real-world performance lives up to the hype. Stay tuned for our detailed analysis. Read the full article

hi, idk if you answered this before, but how did you manage to become self-employed by 24? also any career building tips in general?
Hi love! Well, I'm nearly 25 now (Leo baby here, lol) and have been self-employed since around 21/22 full-time. I would say the main factors at play are a combination of starting my career as early as possible (first real internship in the fashion industry at almost 16 and starting freelancing at around 19), earning a full scholarship to a top private university, and freelancing throughout college allowed me to have a lot of time and freedom to work on my skills, build my networks/portfolio, etc. (I'm not going to discount all of the privileges and resources I've had working in my favor, including the ability to begin my postgrad life with zero debts, that would be disingenuous, for certain).
In terms of career advice, I would say here are some of my most important tips:
Hope this helps xx

Museums in Media: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Tumblr media
Hi! Well, it's been a while since I've done one of these. My new job has me super busy and, quite honestly, I haven't felt like "working" when I'm not at work. With that little personal note out of the way, I'm going to try to cover all the things wrong with how the museum industry, policy, ethics, etc., are portrayed in Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I won't discuss Madripoor as my understanding of black-market art deals is very very minimal, lol.
As with most movies, television shows, etc., museum policy and practice always seem flexible in order to support the plot. I will say though that this show gave me the idea to start these breakdowns as I personally felt it had one of the most egregious errors in recent memory. With that out of the way, let's dive in...
Smithsonian Shenanigans, Part I
Tumblr media
In the very first episode, we see Sam Wilson donate the shield that Steve Rogers gave him at the end of Avengers: End Game to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. A massive spectacle is made (not surprised) and it is immediately put on display. Now, the display itself looked weak so this was likely a placeholder until all normal registration could occur (e.g. accession process to include photography, incoming condition report, object specifics, etc.). As with most donations, I'm sure there was some sort of agreement between the donor (Wilson) and the recipient (Smithsonian) as to the use of the shield... likely for education, study, historical preservation, and display. By the end of the episode, however, we see that it is now in the hands of a "new" Captain America (John Walker).
Immediately, bells went off... I went off... at the ethical and policy violations likely occurring here.
Collections Policy
There is so much that a good Collections Policy can do to protect the museum, the donor, the objects, etc., to ensure that any and all donations are ethically and respectfully handled... I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Smithsonian has a pretty good one (even if it's fictional).
The only way that I could see the Smithsonian handing over the shield to the U.S. Government would be a deaccession or loan process. Now, I'm going to guess it's the former (deaccession) because there's no way a loan like that (use of object) would fly.
Deaccession in this case would violate most known collection policies (that I've been involved with) as usually there is a waiting period or caveats to the process. For example, duplicate items where you deaccession (remove from collection) lesser items... this usually means damage or you have a better representation of the item. However, museums will usually keep around three-five good examples if they have the room. Oh, wait... this is CAPTAIN AMERICA'S SHIELD™ so there's only one. This leads me to believe they deaccessioned it under the rule (that most policies have) where ownership of the item is suspect. Which, if this was the route they were taking, they should not have taken the shield in the first place. This is called Warranty of Title.
Warranty of Title
Warranty of Title is a guarantee by the donor (Wilson) that they have the right to transfer ownership and no one else has rights to the property. Warranty of Title is always considered before any donation. If ownership was suspect, the Smithsonian should not have ethically agreed to take the piece.
I believe that Sam Wilson did have correct ownership, not the government, for the following reason... it's not the original shield.
Tumblr media
During the final battle in Endgame, Steve's shield is straight BUSTED. This shield was originally created by Howard Stak as a civilian contractor with the U.S. Government during World War II. If Stark's contract with the government meant that they (the government) retained ownership and copyright of his inventions, the shield would be classified as government property. However, with that shield broken, the one gifted to Wilson would not fall under this contract unless design copyright was involved. However, that can also get tricky due to how it was paid for, and/or there was no money to be made from creating a new shield based on old designs. Essentially, Warranty of Title on Sam's part should trump any potential government ownership as the shield's origin is unclear.
Has it ever been answered WHERE this shield came from? It's obvious that Steve had it made or got it from an alternate universe because... who the hell knows? There are so many fan theories out there that I could go on forever, but regardless, the government can't claim ownership of the current, intact shield. Unless something comes out in canon later or Stark's involvement with the government and his civilian contract is clarified. If anything, it could be claimed as a forgery.
Smithsonian Shenanigans, Part II
Tumblr media
Earlier in the series, we are introduced to Isaiah Bradley, a black super soldier. Due to racism, among other things (I could go on here), they weren't celebrated or treated with the dignity and fanfare that Steve Rogers was. They were essentially experimented on and buried from history.
In order to right some wrongs about this, the Smithsonian erects a statue of Bradley as well as a narrative about his service and participation in the program. The plaque reads:
"Isaiah Bradley is an American hero whose name went unknown for too long.
Isaiah was one of a dozen African-American soldiers who were recruited against their will and without their consent for participation in human testing in pursuit of the super soldier serum. Most did not survive. The few who lived through testing were sent on secret missions during the Korean War. During the conflict, against all odds, Isaiah Bradley rescued his fellow soldiers and 28 other POWs from behind enemy lines.
However, fearful of the ramifications of a Black super soldier, some individuals within the government tried to erase Isaiah's story from history. His family was issued a falsified death certificate, and for decades the truth of his unflinching bravery was buried."
Well, that was quick.
It would have taken several months, or longer, to contract this life-sized sculpture, sculpt, and then cast this piece – even if they "had a guy" that does this for them. The narrative portion (research, design, and print) wouldn't have taken all that long but my biggest 'WTF' moment was the declassification of records where this became public knowledge. In the series, they act as if no one knows about this and that the program was hidden from the public. I'm sure that would have been a process to declassify, make available, and then allow information requests regarding this time in history... all of this was glossed over for narrative but I'm honestly confused that this scene was supposed to take place within weeks/a couple of months from the main storyline.
*************************
Thanks for checking out my latest breakdown. If you noticed anything else or have your own opinions, drop a comment below.
I am considering what movie/series to do next. There were some museum scenes in WW84 but given the date it was set, I don't know how they did things in the 80s. Probably not up to today's standard but probably not as bad as they show things.
If you have any cool recommendations or scenes you'd like analyzed, send them my way via comments, reblogs, or send an ask.
