Among the most significant advantages of hiring family photographer San Diego to take family portraits is that you can be in the pictures, too. Most of the time, you or your partner might be consistently absent from your photos because one of you must always be behind the camera to take pictures. So, hiring a photographer can be a great help.

man about town interview | spring/summer 2014
Tumblr media
for the tweam! click through for my best attempt at deciphering this (maybe impossible to find?) throwback interview
‘’I don’t think I’m scary at all. It was kind of funny watching myself being scary. Because I’m not scary.’’ Says Evan Peters, the up-and-coming up-for-anything actor best known for his extreme roles on American Horror Story, the prestige television series that treats social taboos as map points. For three seasons, Peters has excelled at playing against his offbeat boyishness by amping up his young Malcolm McDowell intensity, with results that fall somewhere between ‘’teen dream in strangler’s gloves’’ and ‘’terrifying Michael Cera.’’ He most recently appeared in American Horror Story: Coven as Kyle Spencer, the good-natured university student who is decapitated and then reanimated with the body parts of his Kappa Lambda Gamma brothers as a temperamental Rocky Horror who beats his sexually abusive mother to death with a trophy.
Tumblr media
Over a bold chai tea with stevia, at a restaurant in Venice, California, Peters is lighthearted and dryly humorous, like a young Michael Shannon, with whom he should costar in a successful disturbing family sitcom. He wears black jeans, a well-worn t-shirt under a plaid flannel, and a necklace with a toy dinosaur pendant. He drives a 2004 Pontiac Vibe that he correctly describes as ‘’vintage’’; says that he just feels like growing his longish blond hair into a ponytail, and has a red thumbs-up permanently inked onto the to pof his right hand, that was traced over a nightclub door stamp. At one point, he raises his forearm to show off a temporary tattoo that he received the night before at the castle park family entertainment center in Sherman oaks. ‘’This is a Belle tattoo. It’s not real,’’ he explains playfully of a small portrait of the beautiful young heroine from the animated Disney film Beauty and the Beast. I tell him it’s very pretty. ‘’Thank you. She’s gorgeous,’’ he responds. I ask if Belle is his favorite Disney princess. ‘’Well, I picked her out. There was also Jasmine, Ariel and Cinderella. My other buddies got those.” ‘’What about Belle appeals to you?’’ ‘’She likes the Beast.’’ Peters says.
This summer, Peters appears as the teenage Mutant speeder Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to 2011’s X-Men: First Class, which has proven to be an eventful ??? movie. In October 2012, director Matthew Vaughn – who relaunched the franchise with much needed style and a new cast of young, indie + credible actors – left the film to be replaced by original trilogy director Bryan Singer. As such, fans were already touched when Singer announced that he would retell ‘’Days of Future Past,’’ the seminal X-Men time-travel storyline from 1980, an ambitious plan turned wild when he revealed that both franchises would merge into one. Cut to the 2012 San diego Comic-Con whereby unthinkable feats of scheduling – the sprawling casts of the modern-day first series and the 60’s era prequel (that include expensive names like Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackmon, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Michael Fassbender, and so on). Convened with ??? new additions like Peters to unhinge popular culture. ‘’You think to yourself, ‘’wow, people really, really love this stuff.” And it makes you appreciate it more. It makes you work harder at it.’’ he says about the experience.
Peters’ role in the films is crucial but concise. ‘’It’s a huge, huge opportunity but I always make sure to tell people it’s just one scene. Easy, it's just one scene.’’ Peters says, as if talking down a rearing horse. Quicksilver has already been the subject of film industry chatter regarding lawful usage of the character, who is both the son of Magneto and a colleague of the Avengers, making him fair game for inclusion in both Days of Future Past and the 20n5 Avengers sequel (in which he will be played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson of Kick-Ass). An Empire magazine Preview of Quicksilver’s costume design was greeted with comparison to Kid Vid, a ‘90’s cartoon form of the Burger King ‘’Kid’s Club,’’ and the news that Peters had been saddled with the Halle Berry “rough wig’’ role. But his fan’s enthusiasm for the project—in which desperate X-Men from a dystopias future try to stave off mutant genocide by altering the present day—is undimmed. ‘’I think it’s the best film of the francise yet,’’ proclaims Peters. ‘’It’s pretty dire. It’s a pretty epic situation. But there’s definitely some humor in there. Its’s just badass, man.’’
Quicksilver is a departure for Peters in some ways if not others. Both X-Men and Horror Story are tight productions that take extensive precautions to protect story lines. Peters says that he did not receive the full script for X-Men until arriving at the Montreal location days before shooting. Horror Story pages are often delivered the night before a scene. The short lead time can demand a ??? almost improvisational acting process. ‘’The minute we get the script, plans are cancelled, dinner is cancelled,’’ he says about working on Horror Story. ‘’Some of it you’re like, ‘Oh shit, I have to do that?’ Screaming and crying, realizing that my whole body is pieced together and I’m not myself? I’ll probably have to work on that.’’
Peters owes his career to television. ‘’I was watching a lot of TV and I kind of wanted to be on the TV and in movies. I love movies and TV,’’ he says, and cites inspirations like Joaquin Phoenix, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, George Clooney, JIM Carrey, Chris Farley, Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, and the millennial teen comedies Even Stevens starring Shia Labeuof and So Little Time with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. ‘’That sort of stuff. I just really wanted to be a part of it and loved acting and performing.’’ He moved to Los Angeles with is mother when he was 15 years old, and steadily won work in television, on shows including Phil of the Future (2004) and One Tree Hill (2008), and in movies like the independent films Clipping Adam (2004), his first big break, and later Kick Ass (2010). Being cast as Tate Langdon in the first season of American Horror Story in 2011 was his tipping point, playing a Skull Boy-faced high school shooter in a latex catsuit who rapes his girlfriend’s mother to please a ghost. He has since become one of the five main players to appear in all three season of the series, sterling company that includes Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe and Frances Conroy.
Now the world gets to enjoy a lighter side of Peters, like when he appeared on a 2011 episode of the G4 networks Attack of the Show and blithely volunteered that he was working a a rap song called ‘’I’ll Tap That Fucking Ass.’’ He laughs off a request to recite a verse. ‘’I can’t. That never materialized. I tried but it was too much pressure. It was just a concept. I was just trying new ideas,’’ he says, and then volunteers a different musical direction. ‘’It’s called ‘Natch Snatch.’ Like all natural snatch. Big bush. Snatch. Cause it’s nice. You know, ‘girl, you’ve got that natch snatch.’ It’s another nice concept. Probably on the same album.’’ Peters laughs in agreement at the suggestion that he is a kook in the best sense of the word. ‘’I get called a weirdo sometimes,’’ he admits ‘’But it’s like, I don’t feel that weird. I don’t feel that different. I look at everybody else and I’m like, ‘’you’re a fucking weirdo, too. You like all of your shit. I like my shit.’’ Why does one have to be weird and one have to be normal? It doesn’t make any sense to me.’’ Meanwhile, he seems to be successfully negotiating his public and private persona. ‘’I’ll try to be myself as much as I can but you obviously can’t be who you are at home in your skivvies eating donuts. You can’t be that.’’ He explains, before confirming that guy exists, with his tongue sort-of-in-cheek. ‘’You bet he does. Yeah, definitely watching New Girl. Crying.’’ But while Peters seems fairly comfortable in the public eye, fame no longer interests him. The development is not unrelated to his intense, closely-watched relationship with fiancée and two-time costar Emma Roberts (on coven and in the 2013 ?? Adult World) ‘’When I was younger I was like, ‘’That would be awesome!’’ now I don’t particularly love it,’’ he says ‘’Emma gets paparazzi a lot, and because I’m with her we get paparazzi, so it’s kind of a weird thing that I don’t love. But it’s so small in the big picture of all the positives that come with this job that I can’t really complain about it.’’ he may be surprised by the attention he and Roberts receive, but he is hardly self-ptying. ‘’Honestly, it’s not that bad. If you don’t set up a Google alert on yourself and go out searching for it then you’re not going to see it. So I don’t see it.’’ Roberts has already endured the Hollywood learning curve that Peters is now experiencing. ‘’She gives me advice, like cut your hair. She likes my hair to look nice,’’ he says, and laughs. ‘’She’s been around and knows the ropes and how to play the game very well. And she has incredible social skills. She can talk to anyone and everyone loves talking to her. I’m not that good at that stuff so she kind of helps me out with that.’’ I wonder what guidance she offers him. ‘’You’ve just got to be personable and talk to people, even if you don’t want to. Put on a happy face and buck up. Grow a pair of balls. Don’t be a little wuss.’’ Petersa says, and laughs. ‘’I mean, she doesn’t say that, but you know what I mean.’’
Next for Peters is Lazarus, opposite Olivia Wilde, Donald Glover and Mark Duplass a 2015 feature from director David Gelb, known for the documentary Giro: Dreams of Sushi. Peters describes the project, about a team of brainiacs working magnanimously to reanimate the dead, as a “contained Sci-Fi horror thriller” as it mostly takes place in one laboratory setting. He plays the party animal scientist. Peters encouraging sidesteps the questions of his involvement in the next season of American Horror Story, to be set in 1950 and the present day, for which Jessica Lange is practicing a German accent. ‘’I don’t know what I’m allowed to say so I’m going to say no comment,’’ he says.
‘’At the end of the day it is acting. You want to go with the biggest, weirdest, boldest shit and see if you can actually do it and go there,’’ Peters concludes, ‘’I’m very curious about everything. I feel like I don’t know that much. I’m trying to learn it all and figure it all out.’’

Julia Elizabeth Randall
This portrait of her was taken in 1957
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanna take the time and introduce you guys to one of my OCs!
Julia Randall was born on April 29, 1924 in her home during a storm in Dodge City, Kansas. She was the 3rd child of Arthur Randall and Constance (neé Bennett). She was the younger sister of Edward and Wallace and the older sister of Margaret. Julia grew up in Dodge City on a farm with her family while her father was a part of the military and fought in war. The farm they grew up in had crop fields and raised cows, horses, chickens, pigs and a rooster. Her mother was a teacher at a nearby school for all white primary school aged students and they had people take care of the farm while the family worked and did school. Julia would always help around the house by cleaning, taking care of the farm animals, help her mother cook and bake, gardening and other chores.
During The Great Depression, the farm went through a crisis with a lack of crops. They also struggled during the dust bowl storms and other issues. Julia started taking interest in music and singing at a young age between 6 and 7 years old and her mother took her to lessons like playing the piano for instance. She did very well in her school years and was an intelligent student. She took her studies seriously. At some point during her educational years, she took interest in drama and choreography and also took lessons.
At the age of 17 in the year 1941, her father passed away during WWII from being severely injured and wounded. After graduation, Randall went to California to study drama and did a modeling job.
A Hollywood director named Frank Haynes saw her modeling work and took interest in her and asked if she would be a part of a movie which would be her first film. Julia agreed and starred in her first film: “The Lady in the Lingerie”, a 1946 film. During the making of the film, she was forced to sleep with Haynes because he thought she was super attractive and was madly in love and obsessed with her. He also made her wear a push-up bra to expose her cleavage more to make her even more seductive. He gave her nicknames on the set such as “Babydoll”, “Tootsie” and “Sweet Thing”. Julia later revealed the truth in an interview and said she was “traumatized and manipulated” by him. She never liked him. Frank was 28 years older than her.
She did several other films including her most famous “Hephaestus” (1953) and “Miss Montgomery” (1957). Julia also had albums for her songs. Her most top hit was “Red Lips, Curvy Hips” which released in 1956. She also started appearing in television shows during the 1960s-90s. Julia also got married to an actor named Harold Donahue in 1948 and had 4 children named Cheryl (1951), Linda (1953), Carl (1956) and Deborah (1959) who were all born during the 50s.
When Julia decided to quit acting at some point during the early 90s, she took a job for teaching drama and choreography classes and taught for only 9 years. During that time, she would get calls for coming to late night shows and daytime shows for interviews and did that until the early 2000s. In 2004 (4 years before her death), she wrote a book about her life “My Life as Julia Randall and an American Actress” and sold over a million copies. She was 80 years old then.
Julia ended up developing breast cancer in 2007 and became very ill in late 2008. On the morning of December 13, 2008 in San Diego, California, Julia passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 84. Her funeral was held in January of 2009 and was buried in a cemetery in the same city she passed away in. Julia was known to be one of the greatest American actresses, singers and dancers during the 20th century and was also known to be a “sex symbol” and was known as “Tall, Wise and Seductive”. She worked with several other famous celebrities during her career.
That’s all I’m gonna put for now. I’ll do facts about her another time and will be posting more of her. Hope you guys like her! 🩷🥰 Julia belongs to me!

Sincerely, Yours Masterlist
Chapter 4:
Ria arrived at her family’s San Diego home a little after 11 a.m. the next day. The door was opened before she could even get halfway up the driveway, her german shepherd dog was running for her, with Mari standing in the doorway. Ria grinned as she greeted her pup with lots of affection. Once he was settled she walked the rest of the way with him on her heels. “Sorry Ria, he just bolted as soon as he heard your truck door,” the thirteen-year-old told her. “It’s alright Mari, Atlas wouldn’t have gone any further than me,” she told the girl as she brought her in for a hug. “Ma, I’m home,” she called out, hanging her keys on the designated hook. Two sets of footsteps were heard coming down the stairs. Sarah Kazansky smiled as she walked into the main foyer, opening her arms for a hug. Ria obliged and wrapped her own arms around her mother and squeezed tightly. “My oldest baby is home, safe and sound,” she murmured, drawing back to look at her. Indira Kazanksy, coined Ria at a young age, the oldest Kazansky child at 29, knew how much those words meant to her family after her twin Everett or just Rhett for short was KIA. Her mother had tried so hard to convince Ria to pursue something with her engineering degree instead of aviation. Neither of the twins would listen. Their father had taken them to base one too many times when they were younger and they had both gotten bit by the aviation bug, though Rhett had gravitated towards weapons systems, much to their uncle Slider’s joy, Ria had a natural talent for piloting that both her father and Maverick did their best to nurture when she was young. She was then enveloped in a hug by 17-year-old Junior. The middle child. “Hey kiddo, how’s school?” she greeted, patting his back. “It’s good,” he told her, bending down to pat Atlas on the head. “Thanks for looking after him, Tj,” she told him. “We all know I’m his favorite, after you of course sis,” he teased. “Dad up in his office?” she asked. Her mother nodded and gave her a sad smile before heading into the kitchen while Tj and Mari went to go play some soccer in the backyard.
Atlas followed on her heels as she headed upstairs to her father’s office. She passed her room, and Mari’s before stopping at the door to the study and knocking. She heard the automated voice say come in. Tom Kazanksy was diagnosed with throat cancer 6 years ago. He had beaten it and gone into remission but it’s come back, and now it’s much more severe, leaving him in pain when he tried to speak. “Hey Dad, How’re you feeling?” she asked as she pushed the door open. Just fine, he signed. The entire Kazansky household had learned sign language as soon as it had gotten painful for Tom to speak much more than a few words the first time around with cancer so he wouldn’t have to rely on computers, phones, or notebooks to hold conversations with the family. Ria frowned. I don’t want to talk about it, he added as she took a seat in the comfortable leather chair across from him looking at the various photos on the walls like her and Rhett’s senior portraits, Junior and Mari’s school pictures, pictures of the whole family, their academy graduation, and even their wing-pinning ceremony when he pinned the wings on her chest as Slider pinned them on her twin. “Fine, what do you want to talk about?” she asked turning her attention to him fully. Atlas curled up at her feet and stared up at her with his adoring brown eyes. How’s training? “It’s fine, I got tone on Mav during the dogfighting exercises.” That’s my girl. Ria smiled but her father could see that something was weighing on her heavily. What is it? “It’s training for a suicide mission at this point Dad, and we don’t even have all the details yet. I don’t know if we’re ready for this,” she admitted. You’ll be ready when the time comes. Her dad coughed causing her to look back at him, he had stood up and walked around his desk so he was next to her, and Ria stood too causing Atlas to stand, wanting to get a few pats on the head from the older man. He coughed a few times more before clearing his throat. “I’m so proud of you Ria, you’ll get the job done and you’ll come home to us.” Water rimmed Ria’s eyes, though she didn’t allow them to fall. “You’re not supposed to be talking Dad.” Tom shook his head and opened his arms to her and she stepped into them, allowing his embrace to take her back in time to when she was little and the safest place in the world was in his arms and she then allowed a few tears to fall. He held his daughter tightly until she stopped crying then promptly signed at her to go get cleaned up and to go play some soccer with Mari, as she had been dying for some real competition. Ria offered him a wary smile and a nod before leaving his office, Atlas again at her heels.
Mari was giggling as TJ chased Ria, who had just stolen the ball from him, and ran towards her. “C’mon Mari, shoot!” She cheered as she passed the ball to the younger girl. She scored and Ria rushed over to her, picking her up and spinning her around, eliciting more giggles from the girl, Atlas barking happily as he followed them around. Meanwhile, Sarah is opening the door again. “Maverick,” Sarah greets, pulling him into a hug. Maverick glances out the back door to see Ice’s kids playing soccer and laughing, all with wide grins on their faces. That’s good, after the week they’ve had he was glad to see Ria relaxing with family. Sarah wrings her hands together. Maverick noticed and frowned. “It’s come back?” he asked. “No one knows but the family. There’s nothing else they can do. Speaking is painful,” Sarah tells him and Maverick softens. “Sarah, I’m so sorry,” he said. Sarah nods towards the staircase, “he’s upstairs.” Maverick made the trek up the stairs and he knocked as a courtesy before opening the door, hearing him coughing. “Admiral.” Ice turned to him, gesturing to the old chair that was against the wall. “How’s my wingman?” Mav asks as he takes a seat. Ice smiles before leaning over and typing. I want to talk about work. Maverick shakes his head. “Please don’t worry about me, what can I do for you?” he asks. Ice points at the screen again and Maverick chuckles. “All right,” he sighed. “Well, Rooster’s still angry with me about what I did. I thought eventually he would understand why. I hoped he’d forgive me.” Ice nodded and leaned forward typing, There’s still time. Maverick shook his head. “The mission is less than three weeks away. The kid’s not ready. None of them are.” Ice’s fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment until he typed out, Then teach them. “They don’t want what I have to give.” Ice waved him off. “Ice, please, don’t ask me to send someone else to die. Please don’t… Don’t ask me to send them. Send me,” Maverick practically begged. It’s time to let go. Maverick’s jaw clenched and unclenched as he thought about how he was going to respond. “I don’t know how.” Ice pursued his lips. Maverick sighed. “I’m not a teacher, Ice. I’m a fighter pilot. A naval aviator. It’s not what I am. It’s who I am. How do I teach that?” he asked. “And even if I could teach it, it’s not what Bradley wants. It’s not what the Navy wants. That’s why they canned me the last time. The only reason I’m here is you. If I send them on this mission, they might never come home. And if I don’t send him, he’ll never forgive me. Either way, I could lose him, forever.” The ‘It’s time to let go’ on the computer blinked at him. Maverick sighed. “I know… I know.” Ice exhaled deeply before clearing his throat with a few coughs. “The Navy needs Maverick. The kid needs Maverick. That’s why I fought for you. That’s why you’re still here,” he said hoarsely. The two men embrace. “Thank you, Ice, for everything,” he said after a moment. “One last thing. Who’s the better pilot? You or me?” Ice asks, a soft smile on his face. “This is a nice moment. Let’s not ruin it,” Maverick replies with a chuckle.

My childhood was spent at the Naval Training Center in San Diego. I learned to swim at the pool, watched Dr. No at the theater for a dime when I was eleven, and listened to Disraeli Gears on a turntable with headphones at the library. While my grandmother painted ceramic frogs in the pottery studio for my grandfather’s garden, I was in the hobby shop darkroom processing film and my prints from Navy Night at Disneyland. In Junior High and throughout High School I would get my clothes from the base shop that sold pants and shirts that had been left by enlisted men. My favorite coat was a wool peacoat that I lived in, and traveled with me when I hitchhiked across Mexico, the U.S. and Canada in the early ‘70’s. When I bulk loaded my 35mm film I buttoned it up and placed my arms through it backwards and it worked as a changing bag. My grandmother enjoyed having frequent garage sales, and when I moved to San Francisco, I think my beloved coat was adopted by a lucky neighbor. La Jolla Scripps Beach Family Photos | C + C
La Jolla Scripps Beach Family Photos | C + C As a La Jolla family photographer, the beach is definitely a sought out location. There are so many beaches along La Jolla’s coastline as well as San Diego. Some beaches offer even more beauty at particular times of the day. That would be, at low tide! Beaches that have reefs and rocks reveal their tide pools at low tide. There is no mystery though,…

sorry, this doesn't have anything to do with the story - just letting you know that I love this concept so much and really want to see where it goes!! (I'd definitely read it in a novel format too)
Hey there, anon! I haven't touched this blog in over a year, so it's nice to hear people are still reading it.
This story won't be finished any time soon, and when I do work on it again it'll probably take a different format. That being said, I do want to spill the beans on what I have planned.
More under the cut.
Here are some cast profiles:
Aurelio de los Santos: A Europe-educated freethinker and heir to the wealthy de los Santos family. Returned to the town of San Diego to manage the affairs of his late father Capitan Tiago. Has an astute sense of business, but his sharp tongue can get him into trouble. Real name: Maria Clara.
Sisang Baliw: The town's local kook, always talking in rhyme or singing a mysterious lullaby. Many fear her for her supposed knowledge of the dark shamanic arts, although people like Aurelio still come to her for her advice. Isn't actually insane, and is just doing it so the townspeople leave her and her kids alone.
Salome: A long-serving maid of the de los Santos household and Aurelio's close friend. Has a magical amulet (anting-anting) that allows her to turn into a man and perform miraculous feats of strength, as well as become invisible. Always has Aurelio's back.
Dra. Torina: A charlatan doctor moving around in Manila's high society circles. Thanks to her charm and eloquence, she can easily scam her patients into paying vast amounts of money for her services.
Paulita Gomez: An art-loving socialite and Dra. Torina's niece. She aims to establish a night school for women in her hometown, and is currently gathering funds and connections for such an endeavor.
Dimasupil, the Bandit Queen: The leader of a horde of bandits headquartered in the mountains of Laguna. Lost her father and brother to the cruelty of the guardia civil. Routinely conducts raids on rich towns in the area. Real name: Lucia de Dios.
Jacinta del Fuego: A beautiful painter from Cuba with a mysterious past. Acts as the adviser of the current Governor-General, and is making a splash among Manila's elite due to her exquisite portraits. Is actually Maria Clara, back for vengeance after all the suffering she endured thirteen years ago.
Some additional thoughts on this AU:
Its climax is the same as El Fili's: a bomb at Juanito and Paulita's wedding reception. Instead of revenge, it's Maria Clara's final act of spite; she has no intention of escaping the explosion. I imagined this to be the logical extension of the self-destructive tendencies we see in Maria Clara in Noli canon - after all, in the epilogue chapter she almost jumps off the tower of the Sta. Clara convent.
With Aurelio and Salome in particular, I wanted them to have a closer relationship than Ibarra and Elias. They've known each other for a long time. I also wanted them to be similar to each other - Aurelio lives disguised as a man, while Salome literally turns into one using her amulet (this is a reference to Nagmalitung Yawa of the Hinilawod story). Something something becoming a man is necessary for them to operate. I feel like I'm not articulate enough to communicate/tackle this theme just yet.
At the end of the first half of the story, Maria Clara sheds her Aurelio persona and instead turns into Jacinta del Fuego. (Funnily enough, she never actually goes by Maria Clara in this AU.) I wanted Jacinta to somewhat contrast Simoun - while Simoun is lowkey and works behind the scenes, Jacinta steals the spotlight, hiding her plans in plain sight. How could anyone ever suspect the eccentric, loony foreign painter, right? I imagine Jacinta to be in a bright red dress with floral designs.
As a final thought, I think what I struggle with is trying to come up with a story that has AU!Salome as her own character, trying to reinterpret what we see of her in the Noli canon while also finding ways to give her a role similar to Elias. Ditto for Maria Clara and the others.
That's it for my ramble. Hope you enjoyed reading!

I occasionally do some non-profit photo work for causes I think spotlight a need in our society, on May 26, 2022 I went out and shot a food poverty campaign for The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego’s Million Meal Event. (Full disclosure: I am not a religious person or in anyway endorse any actions or not by the Church, I took on the assignment because of the issue of food hunger that affects the less fortunate of us. Thanks). — The Catholic Diocese of San Diego is seeking donations and volunteers to package meals for families facing extreme poverty. Half of the food will be sent to the Casa de los Pobres in Tijuana, Mexico and the rest to the Philippines and Africa. — The food comes from Kids Around The World's One Meal program, which works with volunteer groups to bring nutritious food to communities that need it most. The goal is to deliver one million nutritious meals. Each bag contains red lentils, rice and a mix of vegetables, which can prepare the equivalent of four meals. Sister Armida Andrade with the Casa de los Pobres in Tijuana thanked the generosity of the diocese and the bishop in San Diego. La Casa de los Pobres delivers food every day to people with limited resources in Tijuana. Sometimes, they also transport food to the most needy neighborhoods. — #documentaryphotography #nonprofit #nonprofitphotography #poverty #foodpoverty #foodneed #tijuana #tijuanamexico #mexico #familiesinneed #dailymexico #vidacotidianamx #everydaymexico #everydaylatinamerica #everydaylafrontera #sandiego #everydayeverywhere #nuns #portrait #portraitphotography #retrato #environmentalportrait #everydaysocialjustice (at Tijuana B.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeyurWYFDIj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Review - When You Left Me on That Boulevard
The short, When You Left Me on That Boulevard , written and directed by Kayla Abuda Galang is a film depicting the environment of a Phillipino-american teenage girl, Ly.
Galang puta an emphasis on establishing a portrait of a large multicultural family and the emotions regarding that over putting an emphasis on a particular story or anything much happening.
Galang uses a distinct style of composition utilising negative space and particularly leaving a lot of headroom reminiscent of the films of Pawlikowski. This proves to be a hit and miss as this very stark composition leads to slightly jarring cuts that don't make much sense and interrupt flow towards the beginning. However at certain points these composition work very effectively to create a sense of detachment Ly might feel from the rest of her family.
However one element of Galang's film that works almost perfectly is her sense of rhythm and time. Every moment of silence and stillness she uses is filled with meaning and elements to comb over to gain a deeper understanding of the setting and family life. Moments that stick out are after a dialogue scene Galang lingers on a shot of the women of the family engaging in a roudy, humorous conversation in Pilipino while in the separate room still visible in frame, their children sit and play computer games. It's these moments where Galang lets the viewer contemplate between her brief diologue sections that work to create a very distinct and clear sense of space and time.
However the film's ending does not exactly work as its attempt at surrealism with cheesy 2000s karaoke graphics moving over hazy images ends falling flat. It interrupts what could be quite a clear directory vision and it convulutes and confuses more then it adds.

Photo
Tumblr media
Even today when someone asks why I want to make a photograph of them, my answer is that the world changes so fast, it will be interesting to people in the future to see what we and the world around us looked like. Nearly 50 years after I made some of my photographs I’ve never printed, I’m finding details that I enjoy; seeing them for the first time since I looked through the camera, I’ve become the audience I was thinking of decades ago. This photograph was made on ‘lower Broadway’ in San Diego in October 1976. I loved the graphics of the signage, the expression of the man, and wonder how many sailor’s quarters it took for the business to make a profit. At the time I didn’t use my Rollei handheld, so I would have set the camera up on a tripod and had a short conversation with this man as I made a few photographs.
