A quick history of video game sponsorships on football kits:

1. Arsenal FC x SEGA/Dreamcast (1999-2002) - The Home and Away kits, as well as practice/sideline gear, featured alternate branding as shown here by Gunner legends Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieria.

2. Sevilla FC x Nintendo (1992) - A rare shirt from a single game sponsorship during Maradona’s one-year stint with the Spanish side. RIP Legend.

3. Cerezo Osaka x Capcom (1997-98) - The Japanese dev/publisher renewed their deal with the local side last year, hopefully paving the way for new game-inspired designs.

4. JEF United Chiba x SEGA/Sonic (1994-95) - Although the wide array of SEGA-sponsored kits deserve its own post, the Japanese club's shirt featuring everyone’s favorite hedgehog had to make the list.

5. ACF Fiorentina x Nintendo (1997-99) - An absolute heater of a jersey in the traditional purple worn here by legend Gabriel Batistuta.

6. AJ Auxerre x PlayStation 2 (2001-05) - Not Sony’s first sponsorship with a European club but the first console-specific branding as worn by Djibril Cissé.

7. Manchester City x EIDOS (2000-02) - The deal came just one year after the clubs promotion out of the second division to the Premier League. Rival fans were quick to call out that EIDOS actually stood for “Eleven Idiots Dreaming of Success.”

8. Bayern Munich x Commodore (1984-89) - The American home computer manufacturer behind the C64 and Amiga series played a major role in the acceleration of personal computer adoption. Their partnership with the Bundesliga titan marks the oldest artifact in this list.

9. Olympique Lyon x Atari (2000-01) - At the turn of the century, Atari (fka Infogrames Entertainment) got into the mix by sponsoring their hometown club from Lyon. Shown here is Brazilian free kick specialist Juninho who played for the French club from 2001-09.

10. Tokyo Verdy x Konami (2002-04) - Despite the humble design, this one deserves a mention simply as a salute to Konami for releasing Pro Evolution Soccer/Winning Eleven (now eFootball) and thereby starting one of the greatest rivalries in video game history.

not awkward at all!! im so happy you ask:)

what first comes to mind to me is to watch their games (its a bit painful atm tho lol). but what i personally like to do is just try to learn about one specific player i like a lot, and little by little you also end up getting to know about the whole squad

the fc bayern youtube channel also did a lot of fun video challenges etc (the best ones being the fcb summer games imo!! 100% recommend) so you can 'get to know' the players and their dynamics a bit more personally :)

if youre interested about the history of the club i'm sure there are many videos/podcasts on the topic, but i dont have any precisely to recommend

also theres the 'fc bayern behind the legend' documentary series if you want to sit through 6 hours of propaganda (it was horrible i loved it). it takes place during the 2020-2021 season if i remember correctly but it makes a lot of parallels with the history of the club as a whole!! anwyways the opening is a banger so.... thats that

I have a kind of stupid question lmao but I am watching the first minutes of fc Bayern behind the legend, and flick is talkin to the players in German. But I guess not everyone speaks and understand German? How does that usually work? Maybe he speaks in English on the daily but spoke German for the cameras?

good question 🤣 i know that if you don’t speak german when you sign with bayern you have to learn german and i think most of the players from that team understand german and probably the other players or hansi and his team translate in a language they understand
