57 girls, 5 of whom are pregnant, in state-run children's shelter home in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district test positive for COVID-19
Kanpur: Fifty-seven girls at a state-run children's shelter home in Uttar Pradesh''s Kanpur district have tested positive for COVID-19, with five of them found to be pregnant, an administration official said on Sunday. Two other girls in the shelter home, who are also pregnant, have tested negative for the virus, he said.
"The five pregnant girls, who have been found COVID-19 positive, were referred by the Child Welfare Committees of Agra, Etah, Kannauj, Firozabad, and Kanpur under the POCSO Act. Two other pregnant girls have tested negative for COVID-19. The seven girls were pregnant at the time, when they came to the shelter home," Kanpur DM Brahma Dev Ram Tiwari told reporters.
The district magistrate added that two girls are undergoing treatment at LLR Hospital in Kanpur, while three others are undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
In a Facebook post, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had attacked the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the media reports about the girls being found pregnant at the shelter home.
"The entire story of the Muzaffarpur shelter home case is in front of the country. Such a case had also come to light in Deoria in UP," Priyanka Gandhi said.
In this scenario, such an incident again coming out shows that everything is suppressed in the name of investigations, but very inhuman incidents are taking place in government child protection homes, she said

Army pays tribute to jawan martyred in Pakistan ceasefire violation - Watch Video
SRINAGAR: The Army Friday paid tribute to Gunner Rajesh Kumar, who was killed in a ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Macchil sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
General Officer Commanding of Chinar Corps Lt Gen A K Bhatt led all ranks in paying homage to Kumar on behalf of the nation, an official said.
Representatives from other security agencies also joined in to pay their last respects to the martyr.
“The Army paid befitting tribute to Gunner Rajesh Kumar who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty fighting the enemy at the Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector of Kupwara district,” the official said.

Kumar sustained bullet injuries during the ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the LoC in Macchil sector on Wednesday.
He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, but succumbed to injuries, the official said.
The 25-year-old soldier, hailing from Rejua village in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh, had joined the Army in 2013.
He is survived by his parents and wife.
“The mortal remains of the martyr were flown for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours,” the official said. (AGENCIES)

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a man in an inebriated state in this town in western Uttar Pradesh early today, police said. The latest incident of assault of a minor comes amid public outrage over the rape of minor girls in Unnao and Kathua. The incident in Etah happened when the 7-year-old girl had gone with her family members to attend a marriage ceremony. According to police, the incident took place at around 1.30 am near Mandi Samiti gate on the Aliganj road. Sonu Jatav, who was given the task of putting up tents for the marriage ceremony lured the girl, raped her and subsequently killed her, Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Chaurasia said. “After this, the accused fled from the spot. The body of the girl was found in an under-construction house in the vicinity of the marriage venue. A rope was found tied around the neck of the girl,” he said. The girl was rushed to the district hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
