Early Cinema as a Foundation for Modern Film
By: Julia Kusmenko
Pre-cinematic technologies and early cinema are relevant to today’s films for many reasons. For one, early filmmakers were the first to decide what to capture and what would be interesting to the viewer. An example of this are Thomas Edison’s short films such as “Three Jumping Tommies” which feature circus acts to entertain the audience.
Furthermore, short films such as Edison’s “Kiss”––which show the actors May Irwin and John Rice embracing in an intimate moment––convey emotion of the human experience. Doing so set a precedent for films to display emotion of the characters. Similarly, the Lumière brother’s early films “Little Brother and Little Sister” which shows two toddlers dancing and “The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station” which displays travelers on a train platform convey how people act in everyday life. This means that future films could depict simple moments to engage the viewer.
Another way early cinema is relevant to today’s films is that they documented events in history. Two examples of this can be seen with Edison’s early film “Electrocuting an Elephant” and Lumière’s film “Wall Demolition” which captured history and inspired future films to depict important moments of the past. As described by a peer, “film can be the next best thing as far as representing ‘real life.’” In other words, the nature of a film’s content can cause viewers to suspend their disbelief and be engrossed in the story told on screen.
In addition, early films such as George Méliès’s “A Trip to the Moon” were monumental for the evolution of storytelling, and plot in cinema. From watching this 1902 film, the viewer can understand the character’s experience traveling to the moon while being entranced by the ornate sets, costumes, and succession of events. Another early film which sets the stage for fictitious plotlines was Cecil Hepworth’s “Rescued by Rover” which told the story of a dog that searches for its owner’s stolen child and returns it to her.
Similar to “Rescued by Rover,” Edwin Porter’s film “The Great Train Robbery” helped introduce the idea of filming on location instead of at soundstages which increased realism in later films. Porter’s film also was impactful in that it helped introduce America to the Western genre. A modern-day clip that relates to “The Great Train Robbery” is from the contemporary 2007 film The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. This clip harks back to the 1903 imagery of a train being robbed by outlaws but adapts the Western genre to modern audiences. Other films such as Lumière's “The Hoser Hosed” was a foundation for genre as this was a comedy between two characters.
A quote by a peer which relates to the origins of genre in early cinema is as follows: “Technology has changed so much over the years and each new development is an adaptation of what came before it.” In this way, the genres of modern films build upon the presence of genre in early cinema. As a result, the elements of early films have greatly impacted the creation of modern movies.

Evolution: Top 10 Design Flaws in the Human Body! From Our Knees to Our Eyeballs, Our Bodies are Full of Hack Solutions.
— By Chip Rowe | APRIL 29, 2015 | Illustrations By Len Small | Nautilus
Tumblr media
The Greeks were obsessed with the mathematically perfect body. But unfortunately for anyone chasing that ideal, we were designed not by Pygmalion, the mythical sculptor who carved a flawless woman, but by MacGyver. Evolution constructed our bodies with the biological equivalent of duct tape and lumber scraps. And the only way to refine the form (short of an asteroid strike or nuclear detonation to wipe clean the slate) is to jerry-rig the current model. “Evolution doesn’t produce perfection,” explains Alan Mann, a physical anthropologist at Princeton University. “It produces function.”
With that in mind, I surveyed anatomists and biologists to compile a punch list for the human body, just as you’d do before buying a house. Get out your checkbook. This one’s a fixer-upper.
1. An Unsound Spine
Problem: Our spines are a mess. It’s a wonder we can even walk, says Bruce Latimer, director of the Center for Human Origins at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland. When our ancestors walked on all fours, their spines arched, like a bow, to withstand the weight of the organs suspended below. But then we stood up. That threw the system out of whack by 90 degrees, and the spine was forced to become a column. Next, to allow for bipedalism, it curved forward at the lower back. And to keep the head in balance—so that we didn’t all walk around as if doing the limbo—the upper spine curved in the opposite direction. This change put tremendous pressure on the lower vertebrae, sticking about 80 percent of adults, according to one estimate, with lower back pain.
Fix: Go back to the arch. “Think of your dog,” Latimer says. “From the sacrum to the neck, it’s a single bow curve. That’s a great system.” Simple. Strong. Pain-free. There’s only one catch: To keep the weight of our heads from pitching us forward, we’d need to return to all fours.
2. An Inflexible Knee
Problem: As Latimer says, “You take the most complex joint in the body and put it between two huge levers—the femur and the tibia—and you’re looking for trouble.” The upshot is your knee only rotates in two directions: forward and back. “That’s why every major sport, except maybe rugby, makes it illegal to clip, or hit an opponent’s knee from the side.”
Fix: Replace this hinge with a ball and socket, like in your shoulders and hips. We never developed this type of joint at the knee “because we didn’t need it,” Latimer says. “We didn’t know about football.”
Tumblr media
3. A Too-narrow Pelvis
Problem: Childbirth hurts. And to add insult to injury, the width of a woman’s pelvis hasn’t changed for some 200,000 years, keeping our brains from growing larger.
Fix: Sure, you could stretch out the pelvis, Latimer says, but technologists may already be onto a better solution. “I would bet that in 10,000 years, or even in 1,000 years, no woman in the developed world will deliver naturally. A clinic will combine the sperm and egg, and you’ll come by and pick up the kid.”
4. Exposed Testicles
Problem: A man’s life-giving organs hang vulnerably outside the body.
Fix: Moving the testicles indoors would save men the pain of getting hit in the nuts. To accomplish this, first you’d need to tweak the sperm, says Gordon Gallup, an evolutionary psychologist at the State University of New York at Albany. Apparently the testicles (unlike the ovaries) get thrown out in the cold because sperm must be kept at 2.5 to 3 degrees Fahrenheit below the body’s internal temperature. Gallup hypothesizes that these lower temperatures keep sperm relatively inactive until they enter the warm confines of a vagina, at which point they go racing off to fertilize the egg.1 This evolutionary hack prevents sperm from wearing themselves out too early. So change the algorithm, Gallup says. Keep the sperm at body temperature and make the vagina hotter. (And, by the way, there’s no need to draw up new blueprints: Elephants offer a pretty good prototype.)
5. Crowded Teeth
Problem: Humans typically have three molars on each side of the upper and lower jaws near the back of the mouth. When our brain drastically expanded in size, the jaw grew wider and shorter, leaving no room for the third, farthest back molars. These cusped grinders may have been useful before we learned to cook and process food. But now the “wisdom teeth” mostly just get painfully impacted in the gums.
Fix: Get rid of them. At one point, they appeared to be on their way out—about 25 percent of people today (most commonly Eskimos) are born without some or all of their third molars. In the meantime, we’ve figured out how to safely extract these teeth with dental tools, which, Mann notes, we probably wouldn’t have invented without the bigger brains. So you could call it a wash.
6. Meandering Arteries
Problem: Blood flows into each of your arms and legs via one main artery, which enters the limb on the front side of the body, by the biceps or hip flexors. To supply blood to tissues at a limb’s back side, such as the triceps and hamstrings, the artery branches out, taking circuitous routes around bones and bundling itself with nerves. This roundabout plumbing can make for some rather annoying glitches. At the elbow, for instance, an artery branch meets up with the ulnar nerve, which animates your little finger, just under the skin. That’s why your arm goes numb when the lower tip of your upper arm bone, called the humerus or “funny bone,” takes a sharp blow.
The Fix: Feed a second artery into the back side of each arm and leg, by the shoulder blades or buttock, says Rui Diogo, an assistant professor of anatomy at Howard University, in Washington, DC, who studies the evolution of primate muscles. This extra pipe would provide a more direct route from the shoulder to the back of the hand, preventing vessels and nerves from wandering too close to the skin.
7. A Backward Retina
Problem: The photoreceptor cells in the retina of the eye are like microphones facing backward, writes Nathan Lents, an associate professor of molecular biology at the City University of New York. This design forces light to travel the length of each cell, as well as through blood and tissue, to reach the equivalent of a receiver on the cell’s backside. The setup may encourage the retina to detach from its supporting tissue—a leading cause of blindness. It also creates a blind spot where cell fibers, akin to microphone cables, converge at the optic nerve—making the brain refill the hole.
Fix: Poach the obvious solution from the octopus or the squid: Just flip the retina.
“Evolution Constructed Our Bodies with the Biological Equivalent of Duct Tape and Lumber Scraps.”
Tumblr media
8. A Misrouted Nerve
Problem: The recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) plays a vital role in our ability to speak and swallow. It feeds instructions from the brain to the muscles of the voice box, or larynx, below the vocal cords. Theoretically, the trip should be a quick one. But during fetal development, the RLN gets entwined in a tiny lump of tissue in the neck, which descends to become blood vessels near the heart. That drop causes the nerve to loop around the aorta before traveling back up the larynx. Having this nerve in your chest makes it vulnerable during surgery—or a fist fight.
Fix: “This one’s easy,” says Rebecca Z. German, a professor of anatomy and neurobiology at Northeast Ohio Medical University, in Rootstown. While a baby is in utero, develop the RCN after sending that irksome neck lump of vessel tissue to the chest. That way, the nerve won’t get dragged down with it.
9. A Misplaced Voice Box
Problem: The trachea (windpipe) and esophagus (food pipe) open into the same space, the pharynx, which extends from the nose and mouth to the larynx (voice box). To keep food out of the trachea, a leaf-shaped flap called the epiglottis reflexively covers the opening to the larynx whenever you swallow. But sometimes, the epiglottis isn’t fast enough. If you’re talking and laughing while eating, food may slip down and get lodged in your airway, causing you to choke.
Fix: Take a cue from whales, whose larynx is located in their blowholes. If we moved the larynx into our nose, says German, we could have two independent tubes. Sure, we’d lose the ability to talk. But we could still communicate in song, as whales do, through vibrations in our nostrils.
10. A Klugey Brain
Problem: The human brain evolved in stages. As new additions were being built, older parts had to remain online to keep us up and running, explains psychologist Gary Marcus in his book Kluge: The Haphazard Evolution of the Mind.2 And that live-in construction project led to slapdash workarounds. It’s as if the brain were a dysfunctional workplace, where young employees (the forebrain) handled newfangled technologies like language while the old guard (the midbrain and hindbrain) oversaw the institutional memory—and the fuse box in the basement. A few outcomes: depression, madness, unreliable memories, and confirmation bias.
Fix: We’re screwed.

Wrote my first ever posted fic(let)! Excuse how bad it is, I just had to get it out of my system
where you belong, Mature, 1.5k When they pulled back to breathe in, Dirk giggled. Todd responded with a slight smile and a thumb brushing over Dirk’s lip. “I think I finally know what you mean with the ‘hunch’ feeling you always get.” - - - Why does Todd have Dirk's glowsticks? Why is Dirk wearing a pink coat and is in Bart's cell? What really happened in the Sound of Nothing afterparty? Three questions - one answer.
A couple of drinks and a lot of dancing later the Police Station was full, and Dirk and Todd were sitting on the couch between a lot of other tipsy people. Someone had suggested playing Seven Minutes in Heaven, and Dirk hated it, because right now Farah had picked Todd’s name out of the bowl between them, and was hauling him up and into the small room with cleaning supplies and other police property.
Everyone was cheering and clapping on Todd’s back, but Dirk stubbornly kept his gaze away. Farah had seemed quite insistent on leaving with Todd, and Dirk remembered Farah saying they had made out while he was in Blackwing. The love spell had been quite strong then, but now it was wearing off and a cold feeling settled in his gut. He loved his friends, and wanted them to be happy together, but that doesn’t mean he had to be happy with them probably snogging in the next room. Tina eyed him apologetically, but didn’t say anything.
When they returned, Todd was avoiding Dirk’s eyes.
Great, Dirk thought, since he definitely knows how I feel, now he’s gonna feel uncomfortable around me?
Stubbornly, he exclaimed “I’ll go next!” and pulled a name out of the bowl.
“Cory.”
A slightly younger man with a big fluffy pink coat that reminded Dirk faintly of Todd with Lux DuJour’s coat (Stupid, stop thinking of him) perked up and winked at Dirk.
“That would be me.” He took off a big yellow hat and put it on Dirk’s head, flashing a smile “Handsome.” Dirk smiled back slightly. Maybe it wasn’t gonna be so bad. His fashion sense was quite nice, too.
Cory was leading him into the room, saying “You know, I thought you were with the short guy, but guess not. I must be lucky.”
He closed the door behind them and backed Dirk against the shelves, snaking his hand into his hair. It was dark and easy to imagine the soft fur against Dirk’s skin and the short stature was Todd. Until Cory dropped the coat behind him, whispering “It’s getting hot in here, isn’t it?”
Dirk panicked at the approaching face he was starting to see as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, until the door flying open saved him.
“Cory, your sister-!” a familiar voice said. Cory pulled back and looked at Todd, startled.
“What happened to her?” “Just drank a bit too much, she’s in the bathroom, asking after you.” Cory cursed.
“I told her she can’t drink that much.”
He left fast, and Dirk sighed in relief, about to walk out and thank Todd, but it turned back to pitch black suddenly as Todd stepped in and locked the door.
“Is…his sister okay?” “I lied. She’s fine.” Todd dismissed him and continued.
“Were you really about to make out with him?”
He sounded angry. Dirk couldn’t tell why, but he was getting angry too.
Why couldn’t he? Did Todd really want to torture him so much he wasn’t gonna just forget and not mention Dirk’s obvious crush?
“We’re adults, Todd, just like you and Farah said.”
Todd looked startled and apologetic.
“Well, yeah, but- after what I said-”
He went quiet.
“What?” Dirk asked, impatiently.
“You know… in the festival? After the…the love spell?”
Dirk blinked.
“What’s that got to do with anything?”
“EVERYTHING!” Todd exclaimed angrily, then sighed.
“Sorry, sorry. I just- You could have at least rejected me first.”
Dirk blinked some more.
“What… do you m-”
“Don’t play dumb, you must know I like you!!”
Dirk stopped blinking. For a worryingly long time. His fingertips were tingling. Todd dropped his head.
“What about …Farah?”
Todd looked up.
“We…realized we’re just friends after the kiss. There were no…butterflies.”
Dirk never really understood the expression until now, hope stirring in his stomach.
“But… just now, when she picked your name?”
Todd looked away, embarrased.
“She knew, apparently. She actually bluffed, having written my name on her own piece of paper already and hiding it in her hand. I got to listen to a long lecture about how we’re apparently ‘both idiots’ and I should ‘get it together already’. Of course, I tried to tell her you weren’t interested but she was insisting I at least try telling you again. So…here I am.”
Dirk still wasn’t responding.
Todd started again, nervously “I shouldn’t have done this, you obviously just wanted to forget it so I’m sor-”
Dirk could blame whatever supernatural spell had been placed on them, but he knew that wasn’t what really made him put his glowsticks around Todd’s neck and pull on them to kiss him, flush against each other. And he hoped Todd wouldn’t either, as he was responding quite enthusiastically, his hands going on Dirk’s hips immediately, lips sucking on his.
Dirk’s hands were grasping at Todd’s hair, trying to get closer. It wasn’t just butterflies anymore, it was a swarm of elephants stomping their way out. It was electricity. It was the feeling Dirk often got when solving a case, a feeling of everything falling into the right place, a loose end having connected into the fabric of the Universe.
When they pulled back to breathe in, Dirk giggled. Todd responded with a slight smile and a thumb brushing over Dirk’s lip.
“I think I finally know what you mean with the ‘hunch’ feeling you always get.”
“Shut up and kiss me.”
Dirk had no idea where the need in his voice came from but Todd seemed to be affected, his pupils dilating enough to be seen even in the dark. His lips were back on his in a moment, this time licking into the gap, asking for permission. Dirk opened them, immediately meeting Todd’s tongue, tasting of alcohol.
Suddenly, cold fingertips slipped under his shirt and it hit Dirk like lightning through his nerves. He gasped, opening his mouth and exhaling a hot, shaky breath against Todd’s.
“Even though you look amazing in those jackets…” Todd panted, “I need to get this off.”
He pulled back and slipped the red jacket off Dirk’s shoulders.
“Y-you too,” Dirk said, opening the clips on Todd’s suspenders and trying to unbutton his shirt with shaky fingers. Todd wasted no time and took it off over his head, doing the same to Dirk’s shirt.
Dirk knew it was the alcohol making them frantic like teenagers, but he couldn’t bring himself to care or think at all as Todd’s hands were on his chest, and his lips sucking right next to his ear. The quietly muffled sounds of a party coming from outside were frequently interrupted by small, breathy moans Dirk strongly suspected were his own.
Suddenly there was a banging at the door.
“Hey, your time is up!” someone shouted. Todd cursed and picked up the pink coat.
“Put this on,” he said, shoving it at Dirk’s chest and went to the door, unlocking it.
If the girl knocking remembered he wasn’t the one supposed ot be here, she didn’t say anything, just stepped aside as Todd glared at both her and the bright light. He turned back, taking a pink-coated Dirk by his hand and dragging him through the trashed place to a more deserted hallway, magically not tripping over anything. Must be Dirk’s universe thing, protecting him.
Dirk was still in quite a daze, and Todd backed him up against the wall, appreciating his bare chest and messed up hair in the light.
“You’re gorgeous,” he whispered, mouthing his neck and grabbing his waist, then lowering his hands and almost picking him up. Dirk was responding with small brushes of his hands against Todd’s back, but they were getting slower.
Todd pulled back. Dirk looked a bit too dazed now.
“You alright?” Todd put his palm on his forehead.
“Sleepy…but…continue, please.” Todd smiled at his pleading voice.
“How about later?” he brushed a strand of hair behind Dirk’s ear. “We’ll have plenty of time later. For now, It’d be great if you found a peaceful place to sleep.”
Dirk protested weakly but Todd was pulling him away already.
“Where, where…oh, Bart!” The person in question dissapeared behind the corner she was peeking around. Todd went in that direction, Bart in her open cell, smirking at him.
“Hey, Dirk’s friennnd.”
Todd ignored her tone, walked in and laid Dirk down on the bed, kissing him lightly before going back and closing the cell door.
- - -
In the morning, Dirk felt quite hungover and also scared about what Todd’s reaction was gonna be. But he didn’t have to, since the first words from Todd were a quiet ‘good morning’ against his lips.

Google Chrome Extensions That Everyone Must Have
Chrome has been Google’s answer to the likes of Mozilla Firefox and Safari. Launched in 2008, the browser has become the most popular and widely used browsers in the world. With almost 5 million downloads on Google Play and 20 million active users daily, Google Chrome is probably the best browser available right now. Chrome’s desktop browser is also a very popular choice for many due to easy synchronization with any Google account. Along with a host of features, one of the main components that makes Chrome so popular is the Extensions. An extension is a small software that enables the user to add more features to their browsing experience. Extensions are a good way to integrate many crucial features to ease out web browsing. Here are some Google Chrome extensions that everyone should have installed on their browsers.
Tumblr media
LastPass
Ever forget your password? LastPass helps you store all your passwords in one place. LastPass also allows you to create strong passwords for you and remember them each time you log in to a website. There is only a single master-password that one needs to remember to keep all your passwords secure.
Evernote Web Clipper
Evernote is one of the best note-taking apps and its Chrome extension is equally good. The Evernote Web Clipper allows you to save any article on the web by clicking on the elephant icon in the toolbar after it is installed. Evernote will automatically save the article without pictures and formatting while also allowing you to keep your bookmark sections reserved for important links. The best part is you can log into your Evernote account and sync all your content over any device.
Save to Pocket
Save to Pocket is a great alternative to Evernote which allows similar functionalities. Along with clipping down web pages, Save to Pocket also allows you to view similar content by recommending suggestions from the web.
Foxclocks
No need for constant searching on Google about what time it would be in a specific part of the world. Foxclocks allows you to pin down selected clocks from different countries so you keep track of time for your international meetings and transactions. It also considers daylight saving so you never miss a second.
The Great Suspender
One of Chrome’s worst problems is RAM usage and by using The Great Suspender you can easily eliminate excess use of your RAM by closing down unnecessary tabs. It also allows you to blacklist specific URLs that might store important information so that they aren’t closed accidentally.
Tab Wrangler
Tab Wrangler is similar to The Great Suspender but adds one more feature to it by allowing the option to automatically close a tab if it hasn’t been used for a specific amount of time. Tab Wrangler automatically stores such tabs in its ‘corral’ so that you can always go back to your links anytime you want.
Full Page Screen Capture
Ever wanted a full screenshot of your webpage? Well, Full Page Screen Capture comes to your rescue as it helps to capture screenshots of your web pages and save it in a JPEG format. Unlike a normal screenshot, Full Page Screen Capture takes a screenshot of the entire webpage so you don’t need to scroll down every time.
Pushbullet
Pushbullet allows you to collect all your notifications on your phone and manage them on your PC. WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and even SMS is supported through Pushbullet and if you dismiss your notifications on your PC, you dismiss them from your phone automatically.
Stylish
One of the most interesting extensions for Chrome is Stylish which allows you to put a custom skin on a webpage which appeals to your aesthetic. Many major websites like YouTube, Facebook, Reddit, and Google support Stylish. Thus, if white backgrounds strain your eye, convert them to black through Stylish.
Adblock Plus
Adblock Plus is one of the most used ad-blockers in the Chrome extensions space. This professional ad-blocker is efficient in blocking all kinds of ads, be it the ones which pay before your favorite YouTube video, or appear randomly between an article you are reading. Ad-blocker is a must-have for everyone using Google Chrome.

5 Type and Importance of Pets Accessories
Tumblr media
Importance: Living with pets in your place of residence is not a simple job because they must always be safe. It's strongly recommended that you search for healthy pet items available to help them be happy and full of life. Remember that you can get the details online or at your area's supply stores. If you don't keep it safe, your household animal could infect your children with diseases, hence the need for quality pet products. Children are still vulnerable, and healthy items that can get tainted will protect them from hurting.
Be advised that the goods are essential for your domesticated animals' happiness, and you will come across several kinds to keep them satisfactorily and robustly. Be advised to avoid annoying insects and other forms of bugs. Remember that the pathogens will affect you too, and that's why your partner must always be clean.
TYPES: The Best Dog Bowl
It scares me mentally to suggest a $50 bowl of water for pets. Yet before we got it, we wasted too much money on assorted mats or stood trying to prevent cheaper water bowls from jumping, falling in, or splashing all over the kitchen floor. The bowl of Yeti is big enough and strong enough not to get knocked over if I step too close to it. It contains eight cups of water and has a foundation of no-slip. If it gets too grody, you can put it into the dishwasher also. You can shop dow bowls from Catch store and with Coupon Code Catch, you can redeem discounts too.
Best Pet Camera
Last year I tried and loved the Furbo dog camera, but the Petcube Bites two edges it out this year. You can look at your pup via a 1080p (HD) camera with a viewing angle of 160 degrees, night vision, and zoom. It also has an option for remote treatment that allows you to kibble your dog from a distance.
Best Camping Dog Bed If you've never packed a wet dog bed after not realizing that a corner of the tent was leaking, I can tell you it's a bit like trying to wrestle a three-week-dead elephant seal into your car's trunk. Snow Peak's dog cot, like their low cot, suspends your sleeping dog on a cotton canvas bed stretched across a frame of stainless steel. The fabric is removable and washable, and for easy transport and storage, the entire bed folds down. It's too small for my 70-pound dog at 24 inches wide, so it's not for big breeds, but my 30-pound kid fits comfortably enough to take a nap in it.
Best Furry Fitness Tracker I recommend Jiobit's pet tracker (8/10, WIRED Recommends) if what you want is to keep track of your dog while you're out. But if you want a lightweight, portable, easy-to-use GPS pet tracker that will also help control the activity rates of your dog, the Whistle Go Explore is perfect. It's light and low that it didn't mind my 70-pound heeler mix. This quickly clips into and out of an adapter for charging onto her neck. You can also install a geofence around your house, and set targets for operation based on the age, breed and size of your dog. It even has a night light so you can watch them wander in the darkness at your campsite.

Doctor Who AU Part 30
prelude/one/two/three/four/five/six/seven/eight/nine/ten/eleven/twelve/thirteen/fourteen/fifteen/sixteen/seventeen/eighteen/nineteen/twenty/twenty-one/twenty-two/twenty-three/24/25/26/27/28/29/ao3
The day was soft and gray, a smooth layer of clouds spread across the sky. The sweeping fields of tall green grass were more vibrant without undiluted sunlight bleaching them. The air was cool, heavy with the smell of rich, damp earth.
A few stray drizzling drops of rain fell onto a square patch of dirt that had been cleared of grass. Already a few tender sprouts had pushed themselves up from the loose dirt, undeterred by the loss of the previous generation.
The loose patch of earth shifted.
The newborn sprouts trembled.
A distant flash of lightning lit up a corner of the sky, bright and silent. The wind had died down to a sigh, the world going still in anticipation.
Thunder rumbled and crashed, the wind picked up sharply, blowing in dark clouds, lightning flashed again, and the patch of earth began to heave upward, as if the ground were taking in a breath.
Thunder brought rain crashing down.
The dirt rose up.
A gnarled hand thrust its way into the open, just as another flash of lightning burst overhead, turning the hand into a black silhouette of clawing roots.
“Alright,” a muffled voice said, “did that look as cool as I think it did?”
“Totally.”
Sunny squished through the mud in tall boots, an umbrella held in one hand, a camera in the other. Dawn trudged in from the opposite direction, similarly equipped.
“Ah, the crops are doing so well this year! The nerds are ripe for picking!” the Doctor called from somewhere out of sight.
“I'm going to hug you when I get out of here!” Bog called back, struggling in the mud.
“Just you try it, mudball.”
“These are going to look so cool when we put these clips together,” Dawn said, tucking the camera away in its bag, “How's this one fit, Boggy?”
“The legs are on the right way around this time,” Bog said, clawing his way out of the mud, shaking rain drops and momentary double vision out of his eyes.
“That was one time,” the Doctor shouted, still not visible.
“She's putting newspapers down in the Tardis,” Dawn explained, “she's tired of cleaning mud out of the wiring.”
“She made me get in the cracks with a toothbrush,” Sunny remarked, resting his umbrella on his shoulder so he could grab Bog's hand.
Dawn took Bog's other hand, “Okay, and pull!”
The arm Sunny was pulling on snapped off at the elbow.
Bog looked at the yellow liquid oozing out of the stump.
Sunny looked at the arm he was still holding by the hand.
“Bog . . .?” Dawn began.
“I'm out,” Bog snapped. He slumped forward into the mud.
Sunny finally came to himself and dropped the arm, flailing backwards to get away from it.
“This one a better fit?”
Bog squinted. Dawn's bright face and fluffy halo of hair coming into focus as she bent over him. The sunlight was bright, the outline of it around Dawn was blinding and Bog threw a hand over his eyes.
“He's a shade plant, remember?”
A shadow fell over him and he looked up to see the Doctor had unfurled an enormous yellow and red beach umbrella.
“He needs some sun,” Dawn insisted.
“I need a drink,” Bog's voice was hoarse and his mouth was dry. He wondered if that was a good sign or bad sign. Every time he tried on a new body and felt good it usually ended up that his nerve endings were dead or something.
The Doctor poured a cup of water over Bog's head.
“Not what I meant.”
“But it's what you're going to get, my teetotaling tuber. Plants don't drink hard liquor and it therefore follows that you don't drink it either. Anyway,” the Doctor crouched down, the umbrella closing in further on them, “how does it fit?”
“Gimme a ruddy minute, love,” Bog wheezed, feeling his lungs reluctantly inflating, the rigid segments of bark on his chest shifting with each breath.
“Don't smother him,” Dawn chided.
She pulled the umbrella a little further away so the world was a little less smudged yellow and red. There were some green smudges too now. Bog flexed his hands, his joints moving easily, and touched his thumb to his fingertips, feeling the softness there. That was an improvement, definitely.
“Peach fuzz,” the Doctor said, taking his hand and twisting it this way and that, “for a tree you've got really soft hands. The insides, anyway. Backs are still nice and crunchy. Imagine if you hit someone with that. Total annihilation. They'd be picking splinters out of their face for months.”
“Mm,” Bog took the Doctor's hands in his, savoring the newly returned sensitivity in his fingers. It had taken six tries to get his hands right, to turn them from stiff, thick roots to something that he could imagine using to play the guitar with again. He could feel the callouses on the Doctor's palm, the chipped coat of polish on her fingernails.
“He's getting touchy-feely again,” the Doctor called to Dawn, “maybe we need to reboot him.”
“I keep telling you,” Dawn sighed, “that's normal.”
“How's the connection?” the Doctor freed herself and shone the screwdriver in Bog's eyes, “Any lagging? Double vision? Double sensation? Teeth growing in sideways?”
“Nope. Help me out of here and let's see if everything stays where it should.”
“Your ears sliding off that time was weird and disturbing,” Dawn grimaced.
“Then why are you keeping them in a jar?”
“. . . science?”
“Hey, man,” Sunny took Bog's hand, “if your arm falls off again I am done. Completely done. I'm almost at my limit of zombie body horror.”
“And how do you think it feels to be me?”
“If I planted your arm,” Dawn said thoughtfully, “would it grow another Bog? Would it be a tiny Bog? A pocket Bog?”
“Neither your nor your sister are allowed to play with my genetic material without my permission. I thought we established this. And there has got to be an easier way to do this!”
Bog struggled to pull free of the ground, snapping the tiny rootlets that had spread out around the body while it grew. It stung where they broke off, leaving tiny yellow droplets of blood beading on the skin. The skin was still segmented bark, but patterned to be smoother and not grate together so badly at the edges. Only a Cheem body could be grown using the methods Bog and the Doctor had worked out from the data in the primrose. It would take years for a body to slowly take on a more human structure.
“Maybe we should try pods,” the Doctor said. She was pulling hard, but Bog's arm was still attached, “big old pods, bodysnatcher style.”
“Why didn't you make that suggestion half a dozen bodies ago?!”
“I was thinking trees, not peas.”
“Stupid!” Dawn smacked her forehead with the heel of her hand, knocking her glasses askew, “We got too hung up on plants and forgot all about the human aspects! A pod would be so much easier to program a template into and minimize the need for roots to gain nutrients because the body would be suspended in--”
“Miracle-gro?” the Doctor suggested.
“Hate you,” Bog muttered, getting to his feet and brushing dirt off. After the first attempt at growing and piloting a new body Bog had quickly figured out how to add a simple, separate, fabric-like growth in the shape of pants.
“Good, good, the cheekbones came out nicely,” the Doctor nodded in satisfaction before reaching up and pinching Bog's dirt-encrusted cheeks.
Bog was embarrassed to feel himself blush, but also pleased. The body felt real. Almost as if it were him and not just a remote-controlled drone. His real body—real self—was still firmly rooted to the inside of Roland's former Tardis. With a thought Bog could be pulled right back into that prison. Right back into reality.
“Someone is in loooove,” Dawn giggled.
“I'm allowed to appreciate an aesthetically pleasing face!” the Doctor huffed.
“It's the first one I've ever seen you appreciate, sis. Or consistently recognize.”
“He's easy. He's the one covered in bark.”
Bog smacked the back of her head.
“Hey!”
“Oh, so sorry. My reflexes must still be off kilter.”
The Doctor punched him in the stomach.
“I hope this isn't standard courtship stuff for Time Ladies,” Sunny said, standing on his tiptoes behind Dawn so he could rest his chin on her shoulder, “I bruise easily.”
“Sunny, I've seen you fall off a ten foot wall and walk away without a scratch. I'm theorizing that you're either an alien with enhanced resilience or a sudden leap in human evolution.”
“Don't disrespect my skills like this. I am one hundred percent token human and have collected enough bruises and broken bones to take down an elephant before I reached true mastery of parkour.”
“It isn't natural, it just isn't natural. And these bizarre courtship rituals are exclusive to my sister and her lovesick Larch.”
“I'm going out on a limb here and guessing Larch is some kind of tree.”
“Limb,” Dawn snickered, “that's a good one.”
Bog's leather jacket still fit.
Was it 'still' when the body he was wearing had never worn the jacket before?
His tattoos were gone. No, again, the tattoos had never been inked into the tough skin of this body, on the twined bundles of roots that mimicked the shape of arms. The hands he flexed had never picked up a guitar, the feet that were digging their toes into the dirt had never walked on Earth.
Because they weren't on Earth at the moment.
“One of seven Earth-like planets orbiting a dwarf-star called Trappist-1, recently discovered by Danish scientists,” Dawn had explained, “rather less sunlight than Earth, but suitable for a weird Bog garden. Humans will start colonizing in the thirtieth century. Until then it's like your own personal planet.”
Bog had viewed the scenery on the monitors, his interest piqued by a brand-new, untouched planet, “Can I name it, then?”
“Frank,” the Doctor immediately suggested, “or Earthy. Not Earth. Nearth. Frank Nearth. Frank Nearth the Second.”
“You are not allowed to name anything. Ever.”
“What's wrong with New Earth?” Sunny asked.
“Already taken. Or will be,” Dawn shrugged.
“Also that's totally boring,” the Doctor added, “hey, what about calling it Broden? Planet Broden.”
“Never mind,” Bog said, “we're not naming the planet. Not if I have to deal with this.”
Now Bog stood outside Roland's hair salon Tardis, watching Trappist-1 sink behind the horizon. A pristine planet, untouched by the industry of humans—or any intelligent species—and a cheap hair salon was parked in the middle of a grassy meadow, a neon 'open' sign blinking red and blue in the growing dark.
“I guess we've got a keeper,” the Doctor said.
“Huh? Oh, yeah. I don't seem to be shedding anything important.”
The Doctor took Bog's hand.
And stabbed his fingertip with a needle.
“Yup,” she said, ignoring Bog's yelp, “nerve endings are good.”
“Wasn't there some nicer way of checking that?!”
“Don't be a sapling about it. You're not even bleeding.”
“Hmf.”
“Connection is holding. Since you're real body is hooked up to a Tardis you're very unlikely to experience signal loss, no matter where or when you might be. All data you collect in your avatar body will be relayed back to the original so even if the avatar body is damaged you won't lose any—any . . . “
The Doctor stammered her way to a stop when Bog brushed his fingertips over her cheek. Was it the newness of his body that made it seem that his fingers were more sensitive than before? Or maybe it was just the novelty of touching a person with affection.
“I guess . . . I guess that's a nicer way to check nerve sensitivity,” the Doctor remarked awkwardly. She hitched up her shoulder and squinted her eyes when Bog's hand traveled down her neck, but it was only a few moments before she was leaning into his touch, eyes half-shut.
“This really is me, isn't it?” Bog asked quietly, “My body? My hand?”
“Do you want me to be scientific of philosophic about it?” the Doctor had her arms folded tight in front of herself, making no move to reach out to Bog, “I've got a good repertoire built up.”
“I wouldn't mind a straightforward comforting lie.”
“I'm good at lies. Bad at comforting.”
Bog let his fingers coast over the back of her neck, counting the vertebrae that made gentle rises in her skin. The contact helped him feel real. It made the Doctor feel real. She was a strange being, too big inside for him to fully understand, too quick for him to catch unless she stood still and let herself be caught. She was always running and even now, in this moment, it didn't feel like she had really stopped.
“New bodies . . . I've had loads. They come with memories of worlds you've walked a thousand times, but never walked before. At least you get to say the same height. I had to lower all the shelves so I could reach things without a step ladder.”
“Doesn't it bother you? Not to be yourself anymore?”
The Doctor shrugged, “Sometimes there are things you're glad to leave behind.”
Bog's fingers had been pushing the Doctor's hair back behind her ear and he paused, looking at the familiar shape of unfamiliar hands.
Hands that had never held a gun.
“I see,” Bog gently rubbed away a smudge of dirt near the Doctor's hairline, “I see.”
“You wake up and it all begins again. There's the whole universe, new again, waiting for you, and you've got a brand new set of eyes that see everything differently than you've ever seen them before. I'm glad we got your eyes right. I was afraid we might get the wrong shade.”
“Hm,” Bog toyed with the lapels of the Doctor's coat, “this is all a new beginning, is what you're saying.”
“Things begin and end every day. Some are just more noticeable than others. Today you set a clock to count down the ten years, more or less, until you're avatar is more human than Cheem. And I've set my own timer . . .”
The Doctor looked out over the fields and Bog followed her gaze to Sunny and Dawn. The two were pulsing the light on the end of Dawn's screwdriver to attract fireflies. Or some sort of firefly creatures. They actually looked more like flying, glowing spiders.
Bog tugged on the Doctor's coat, making her turn away from the scene. Dawn and Sunny were beginning something, something bright and fresh. They carried their own hurts and worries, but the both of them were fundamentally sound and happy in a way that Bog and the Doctor could never be. Sooner or later Dawn's path would diverge from her sister's.
“She's not gone yet,” Bog said softly.
“That's one of the things about being a Time Lord,” the Doctor said, her head lowered, hiding her eyes in shadow, “you see more endings than you should.”
“Doesn't that just mean you see more beginnings, too?”
The Doctor looked up, slight frown on her face while she took in his words. Something seemed to click into place because she laughed, her painted lips twisting into a reluctant smile, “I think I'm starting to see why I keep you around, Bog.”
“I thought it was for my good looks.”
“I guess you're alright. For a tree. I wonder if you'll turn red and orange in the autumn, because that would be spectacular.”
Bog tugged on her coat, pulling her closer as he bent down, “You're completely bizarre.”
He gave her a brief kiss, confirming that the nerve endings in his lips were functioning properly. He took a breath and looked into the Doctor's eyes. It was hard to say whether the stars he saw there were a reflection of the night sky or from the vast universe she carried within her.
A sudden thought tickled Bog and he laughed.
“What?” the Doctor drew back.
Bog pulled her back, “I was just thinking, technically, that was my first kiss.”
Dawn let the twelve-legged insect dance over her hand while it followed the light from the screwdriver, “It wants to play! I thought it was like fireflies and it was a mating thing, but it's just that he wants to play, like crows. What smart little things.”
“Pretty too, in their weird way,” Sunny picked one out of his hair and shooed it back into the air.”
The two of them stood, knee-deep in grass, surrounding by the winking of the insects and the steady light of the stars. It was cool and the wind was rustling mysteriously in the grass.
“Is it over, then?” Sunny asked, holding Dawn's hand while they watched the sky.
“I guess it is. For the moment.”
“You'll take me back and drop me off in time for my shift, just like none of this happened.”
“I guess.”
Sunny's chest felt tight. Dawn was going to go whirling off into the stars. He would be stuck on Earth, just like before, except this time he would know that he was stuck. Before it was just life. You walked on the surface of the world and knew that anything beyond that was out of your reach.
“I mean,” Dawn took his other hand and swung their hands back and forth a little, “if you want. But after your shift ends . . . are you free?”
The cord tied around Sunny's chest broke and fell away, leaving him able to breathe freely again. The shy look on Dawn's face, the puffs of her hair nodding in the breeze, the sparkle of light glittering from under her eyelashes . . . she was beautiful. She was new. Her sister was like some ancient stone, craggy furrows worn into her by time and trouble. Dawn, just like her name, was new, just peeking over the horizon. Sunny wanted to follow her and see new things together.
“Well,” Sunny could only barely keep himself from grinning, “actually, I kind of have a family dinner I have to help set up. Big deal, the whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins. Even an army of plant people could stop us.”
“Oh,” Dawn dropped his hands, drooping a little, “yeah. Can't skip out on family. I guess we'll just—”
“But,” Sunny took her hands again, “are you free to come to the dinner?”
“Your family dinner?”
“Yeah, we're all allowed to bring dates, but only if we're super serious. No casual flings allowed. It's my grandma's rule. Family only.”
“Family only?”
“Yeah, well,” Sunny's face was suddenly hot, “I mean, I don't know how this is going to end up, but . . . I'm—I'm kind of serious. About you.”
Dawn's face lit up brighter than all the stars and lightning bugs around them. She grabbed Sunny by the shoulders and pulled him into a kiss, pushing away all her thoughts about the terrible revelations of the last few days while she slid her fingers through his hair.
Those were endings.
This was a beginning.
Not Exactly The End
I plan to do several epilogues to fill in some details. But, basically, this is over. Y’all got any questions you want answered that were in the main story? Lemme know and I can incorporate them into the epilogues.
thank you all so so much for reading this super random crossover and enduring endless tree puns

Guidelines to Use a Pacifier Clip
As watchmen, we have all that anybody could require to screen! From huge accomplishments to little nuances (like whatever happened to that left sock?), sufficiently it's to make you feel like you will not at any point keep up. It's difficult to stay ready, and reliably losing things like pacifiers (and socks!) makes it significantly seriously perplexing. Clearly, we'll take all the help we with canning get, which is the explanation we're including a supportive gadget today: the pacifier cut. Here, we'll familiarize you with a part of our top decisions, let you in on our most prominent potential gains and disadvantages of each, and outline how best to use them, too. So, in case you're believing you've as of late lost your last pacifier (stay enduring, mother!), keep on scrutinizing!
Using a  Pacifier clip or teether cut is a simple errand — from a genuine perspective. The chief thing you truly need to know is that there are two fundamental sorts of fastens: a snap cut and a circle cut. Likewise, clearly, the justification for a pacifier slice or teether is to keep youngster's pacifier or possibly teether close, clean, and to be sure, not lost. Plan to communicate goodbye to dropped pacifiers and teethers when you are getting out and about with no genuine method for cleaning it!
Guidelines to put a pacifier or teether cut on a pacifier:
In three clear walks, this is the method for using a pacifier cut that snaps shut:
Open the snap and circle it around the handle of a pacifier or teether.
Close the snap solidly, then, slice the contrary completion to youngster's shirt or other needed place.
Furthermore, a circle style pacifier or teether slice how to use:
Feed one completion of the circle through the opening or handle of a pacifier or possibly teether.
Pull the pacifier/teether slice through the circle, then, fix.
Fasten to kid's shirt or other needed place.
The retractable pacifier/teether cut that is referred to under, is a circle style cut anyway works remarkably as opposed to standard pacifier/teether cuts.

Just Like You Imagined: A Selected Nine Inch Nails Videography
Music Videos
Head Like a Hole
This video introduced the world to the chaotic visuals that would come to embody Nine Inch Nails. For many early fans, this became the video that they always remember when thinking of the band. There were images of a native dancer, film negatives, a bobbing model of a head, and the band performing in a futuristic studio. At one point, Trent Reznor is suspended in the air as he sings or rather screams the chorus.
Wish
In this clip, the band is fully dressed in leather performing the song in a steel cage. Furious men from all sides are climbing into the cage In order to get at the band. The entire video is aggressive and violent representing everything that fans had associated with the group in the mid-1990’s.
Only
In this promo, David Fincher steps in to direct, which eventually led to a collaboration between Reznor and the director for films such as The Social Network. The video utilizes pin art to illustrate the singer performing this track in an office. The Apple Power Book appearing in the video actually belonged to Fincher. Every aspect of the video was created using CGI, except for a human hand and the cars in the office background.
The Perfect Drug
Inspired by the artwork of artist Edward Gorey, this video shows the band fully decked out in Edwardian costume. Trent Reznor represents a man, who is mourning the death of his child by altering his reality through the use of absinthe. Other band members appear in the video as well, most notably playing stringed instruments at the very beginning.

Co-directed by Marilyn Manson, this video maintained a central theme of very dark humor towards the content of the song. Reznor and a blonde companion take a limousine to a carnival, where she tapes the singer throwing baseballs at musicians such as Michael Stipe, Billy Corgan, Fred Durst, and even Reznor himself. Other musicians can be seen throughout the clip including David Lee Roth. At the end of it, the blonde removes her wig to reveal her true identity to be Marilyn Manson. This became important because fans took it as a sign that Reznor and Manson were friends again. Manson would even join Nine Inch Nails on stage to sing the song in Madison Square Garden. More recently, due to allegations from several women, Reznor has ended any association with Manson.
The Hand That Feeds
Co-directed by Reznor, this video showed band members performing this song in very tight spaces. The clip utilized something called the pan and scan technique, which created visual distortion and blurry pixels on the screen. Towards the conclusion of the video, each member becomes even more blurry on the screen as other techniques were used to distort them.
Closer
This clip quickly became the band’s most popular and most divisive ever. MTV would show it in heavy rotation, but they had edited the original substantially. The storyline of the video was an illustration of a laboratory dealing with religion, sex, animal cruelty, and terrorism. Some of the controversial images included a bald woman wearing a crucifix mask, a monkey tied to a cross, a diagram of the vulva, a rotating pig’s head, and Reznor with a ball gag in his mouth.
Into The Void
This video would utilize a macro photography approach that focused on Trent Reznor to the very extreme, so you could see every molecule from his face. The end of the video shows the full band destroying their instruments and the set itself. The clip would be nominated for Breakthrough Music Video at the 2000 MTV Music Video Awards, but they would lose out to Björk.
March of the Pigs
The band actually filmed two versions of this video for the track from The Downward Spiral. Reznor decided to completely abandon the first version before filming had even completed. The finished video takes a very minimal approach showing the group in front of a white backdrop aggressively doing the song. For his part, the Nine Inch Nails frontman repeatedly dropped his microphone as he bumped into the other band members. One can see stage hands repeatedly setting equipment back up after Reznor had knocked it down. The entire clip looks to be shot in one long take that utilized the actual audio recorded that day instead of the official album version. Most music videos did not do such a thing back then. The audio recorded for the promo would be included as a B-side on the Closer cassette.
We’re In This Together
The best word to describe this music video would be ambiguous. The clip shows Trent Reznor and a large group of people clothed in black running for the entire length of the song. They run through various empty streets, get on a train, then it ends with them in a field. Many fans wondered at the time what exactly the singer was running towards in the promo? The video would be entirely shot in black-and-white to add to the general sense of vagueness.
Films
Broken
This short film represented the four music videos released for the 1993 EP, but it was never officially released on VHS. The story within a story narrative structure for it became that of a snuff film. One of the big reasons it was never released came in the fact that the film would have had major censorship issues due to its graphic nature. Trent Reznor would later say in an interview that the entire film makes the video for “Happiness in Slavery” look like a Disney movie. The film also included two hidden tracks and a music video for the song “Gave Up” that was never officially released. The film did leak, eventually allowing fans to see some version of it through bootlegs. Today, one can view the uncensored version of the film via a hidden link on the discography page of the Nine Inch Nails site.
Closure
This two VHS tape collection includes all the music videos for The Downward Spiral and a live concert. The tape also provides behind the scenes footage of the Self-Destruct tour and Further Down the Spiral tour. The backstage footage shows the interaction of the band with Marilyn Manson, Jim Rose’s Circus, and David Bowie. One part shows how Trent Reznor loved to destroy keyboards while on tour. The second tape with the music videos inter spliced footage from educational movies and other original video between each official clip via Director Peter Christopherson. For example, you can watch an educational film from the Edison manufacturing company entitled Electrocuting An Elephant before “The March of The Pigs.” The director also included unreleased footage from the earlier Broken film that was never released. Due to overwhelming fan demand for a DVD version, the band did release one in 2001.
And All That Could Have Been
This DVD showed footage from the Fragility 2.0 tour, which accompanied the live album of the same name. The Nine Inch Nails crew used DV cameras to capture live footage, then Reznor and others utilized Apple software to edit the footage for a DVD release. The singer would later say that the decision to film it themselves came about due to cost and his vision for a more realistic perspective. The negative aspect of the DVD is represented by very shaky cameras and dark footage at times. The two disc set also included a number of Easter eggs that can be accessed by hitting certain buttons on your DVD player remote at certain times. For example, if you press the number six or seven on your DVD remote at 11:19 on disc two, the entire menu of all the hidden features will pop up.

Death Becomes Him: An Age of Steam and Sorcery Novel
Chapter Thirteen: Wakefulness came gently the next morning. The sun was peeking through his curtains that were swaying in the light breeze. His mother had clearly been in as his clothes were no longer hung on the chair by his desk. She must have opened his window to get some fresh air into the room too. Curious, Peter climbed out of the sheets and wandered down the hall. It was rare for his mother not to wake him. In fact, it was surprising she had not entered his room like a herd of over-caffeinated elephants, insisting he bound out of bed and eat his bowl of cardboard flakes. This was whole new direction for her. Nor was she to be found in the kitchen. The aforementioned bowl was on the table, but the flakes were still in the box and the spoon was being used to weigh down a note. Peter put the cereal box back in the cupboard and set the jug to boil. There was an unnatural feel to the silence in the house. As the jug clicked off he poured the water into a mug and dropped a peppermint tea bag in after. Taking the note from the table and his mug of steeping tea into the lounge, Peter sat on the couch to read. “Honey, I can see that this whole thing has upset you more than you’ve let on. Take a day off and read a book, get better and take care of yourself. I’m going out for the day so you can relax. There’s plenty of food in the house, and I’ve given you some extra in your allowance in case you want to order something else. Be good and at least try to get some fresh air today, you haven’t seen the sun since Monday. Love you, Mum” A whole day to himself. The only caveat was that his mum expected him to go outside at some time during it. Peter shuddered. The whole drive of human civilisation had been to get as far from outside as possible. He normally much preferred spending the day inside with a good book. Now, it would give him the chance to research how cavemen skinned their prey. He already knew the first part of the answer: inside a cave. He tossed the piece of paper onto the coffee table and pulled up a web page in his digital vision. He sipped his tea as he read up on early hominids and primitive tools. It seemed that the first tools were made of stone, unsurprisingly, but were incredibly sharp for all they were brittle and easily broken. Making them was quite simple too: you just had to find two rocks and use one to knock chips out of the other. Once he had found a way to make a simple knife he could acquire the needed skins with, Peter checked into tanning methods. The results nearly made him spit his tea out, there was far too much poo involved in the process. No wonder tanners went mad. No wonder the crazy old coot in the hut was mad. It was surprising he had not been forced to move out of the village, digital world notwithstanding. Staring into his unfinished cup, Peter decided to head up to the roof. Mothers have an unerring sense as to whether their instructions have been followed so he figured he should get it over and done with as soon as possible. He took the elevator up and emerged blinking in the sunlight. The elevator doors opened into an area that was protected from the elements by a small roofed area, but the rest of the top of the building was a pleasantly landscaped garden. Gravel paths led between the garden beds from which sprouted small clipped bushes. Benches dotted about, each with their own sunshade, for residents to sit and relax. It was like a watered down version of the Garden of Tranquillity, but the sound of horns drifting up from street level spoiled the ambiance. Here and there lighter spots on the gravel were all that remained of the ashtrays since smoking had been completely banned a few years ago. The smell still lingered though, another reminder that this world was not his preferred location. Peter buried his nose in his mug as he passed each one. Leaning his elbows on the rail at the edge of the roof, Peter looked out over the city. The last remnants of the steam from his tea tickled his nose as he watched life happen to other people. Thousands of cars trailed nose to tail from one horizon to the other. Buildings much like his own rose in regimented order, a shelving system for humanity. Far away below ant like figures bustled along completely absorbed in their own issues, trusting their guidance apps to prevent them walking into another pedestrian or in front of a vehicle. From a building across the street came the slamming of a door. A man stalked out onto his balcony followed closely by a screaming harridan of a woman. He stomped his foot and screamed back at her. She slapped him and he punched the glass sliding door, cobwebbing the surface. His screams ratcheted up an octave, but she just shrugged and flipped him off and stalked back inside, followed shortly by him. Soon another door slam cut off the noise, leaving Peter with the impression that this is how his parents would be if they were not forced to moderate their behaviour because of his presence. Or, maybe not? If it were not for him and his incident the family would not be in the situation. I’m the one that had cost them their home in the suburbs. My incident that had been the cause of all the fighting and vehicular vandalism. If only there was something I could do about it, but all I’m doing is piss off bullies and cause more problems. Peter rubbed his scar again. Hi tea soured, Peter poured the rest over the edge and watched the stream disintegrate into a mist on the evening breeze. He briefly considered tossing the cup after it, but that would only cause more problems. Stepping into the elevator Peter leaned against the wall and let his head rest against the cool metal. Every time he returned to the real world he was reminded of how much his life sucked. What he needed was a way to stay in game for longer. He was still considering ways to achieve an extended stay as he entered the apartment. One could only fake sickness for so long before you get taken to the clinic and outed as healthy. He could try taking the advice his Dad have given him, that would get him suspended for sure. It could also get him mushed into a pulp. More thinking was needed. Until then, there was the rest of the week to get his digital life in order. Peter dropped his cup into the sink and grabbed a muesli bar from the cupboard. By the time he reached his room it was gone and the wrapper let fall into the bin in his room. He turned and flopped backwards onto the bed and had let the digital world claim him before the second bounce.

                                                          DECEMBER        2017
*****The Astros win the World series.
*****Jill Kimmel is doing stand up.** Her brother Jimmy’s childhood drawings were turned into flesh super heroes The terrific Ten.** Jimmy is in a twitter war with Roy Moore. After being called out by Moore, Jimmy is heading to Alabama to either fight or talk since he is unsure of what Moore is taunting him to do. He wants to dress like a girl scout since he feels that Moore only notices little girls. Kimmel would really like to talk Christianity because as a Christian he does not understand him.
*****So.. Scary clown has delayed his decision on elephant trophy’s which has angered hunting groups.** It is said that Rex Tillerson is about to be out and Mike Pompeo in. Business as usual!
**** The tax bill is atrocious. It adds a trillion to the deficit and the middle class tax cuts would expire.  They are trying to sneak in a caveat in the part about college savings plan. It would not actually change anything for savings now but it a backdoor way to have their way on abortion. It would introduce ‘fetal personhood’ into law which of course would be a short leap to taking away choice.
*****Scary clown 45 is ranting about the jury in the case of Kate Steinley who the jury says was accidently shot by an immigrant named Jose Inez Garcia Zarate.  Trump has been ranting about this case for a while now but the San Francisco trial just ended.** And we are really seeing what Trump and his fake news are doing to the world. His yelling about CNN put doubt into other countries about a REAL story they did on modern day slave auctions in Libya. These are real humans that need help and he has others doubting the very story. ** He also put out fake stories about terrorism which were debunked but Huckabee Sanders said it does not matter if the stories are real, the threat is real. The fake news also gave much free publicity to hate group Britain First.
*****The original Conklin’s barn was torn down on November 7. Fingers crossed that the donations will keep coming in so they can reopen by December 2018 as Barn 3. Time for some Days cast members to donate some fundraising time??
*****Patton Oswalt kicked ass in his new Netflix special Annihilation and also just got married to Meredith Salenger.
*****Boo Boo Stewart and Mark Derwin star in Lowlifes out in 2018. Lowlifes is the story of a second chance boot camp who stumble onto a terrorist group.
*****Meghan McCain seems so angry and it seems she wants to tear Joy Behar’s head off sometimes. She is supportive of some liberal agendas but automatically turns off some ideas simply because of who is proposing them. This is the very thing she rails against. I did love her take on sleezy Matt Lauer though, I too never had any respect for him after the Anne Curry thing. And c’mon ET all the Lauer clips you showed seemed to have him in front of Rolling Stones advertising.** Lauer has been accused of many things including exposing himself. Why do these men always think we want to see their dicks? They all think they have something special, they are not that fucking different. Keep it in your pants, most would be embarrassed if they were held up to other men. And I don not believe for a minute that Jeff Zucker did not know about it. I never trusted him either.
*****China says that Trump is proof that democracy does not work. They are benefitting from our misery and zeroing in on being number 1. Besides spreading propaganda, they are making lots of jobs with clean energy that they can sell to the world.
*****Steve Green of Hobby Lobby has finally opened the 500 million dollar Bible museum. The idea of making all guests sign a promise to become evangelicals when they leave was nixed.
*****$15 mil in taxpayer money has been spent on the sexual harassment complaints of congress.
*****James Jagger and Matilda Lutz are the face of Giorgio Armani’s fragrances Because it’s you for her and Stronger with you for him.
*****Commerce secretary Wilbur Ross declared the divestment of his holdings but he’s still part owner in a company. This Russian company has ties to Putin’s son in law.
*****Please Please Conan.. More Butterscotch the clown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*****The UK is having its own political and sexual misconduct scandals including a secretary of state Damian Green.
*****The Mark Twain prize for Letterman was filled with my favorites and was very emotional. Al Franken edited out? Maher is right: The liberals are pussies.
*****The Paradise papers about offshore finances were leaked.  The secret financial activities of the superrich show a lot of Russian dealings. There are also questions about Queen Elizabeth’s private estate and other business leaders.
*****The list of those accused of sexual misconduct grows, from Dustin Hoffman to Brett Ratner to Russell Simmons and more to come. Simmons is accused of raping Lena Horne’s granddaughter. We need a special kind of thank you for Ronan Farrow who is working tirelessly to blow the lid off of the Weinstein bullshit. I Can’t wait for his new book. He has exposed many things which have helped feel safe enough to come forward. So many helped in the Weinstein mess , including Dylan Howard, chief content officer of American Media Inc. which publishes The Enquirer. Howard was apparently a helper in the disgusting network of suppression. Sime sticks together like Levin sticks with Trump.** We need a real truth teller, an honest Cronkite type and I see it in Ronan. **Jane Seymour had her own story of sexual harassment with a powerful producer at the start of her career.** Charlie Rose is fired after his allegations. That one hurts.** I am so glad the women are coming forward. The bravery of citizens like in The Keepers is opening up a world of (hopefully) more truth, more justice. ** Are political operatives helping to dig any of this up?** A good portion of people I know are natural flirts. Are there some who don’t even realize that they are offending? Out and out rape and authority figures who try to stop an employee’s rise when they do not get their sexual way is obviously wrong.  We are human though and sometimes that line may be crossed unintentionally. I think each story has to be looked at for what it is. We must discern between real and cruel sexual situations and tasteless jokes and bad manners. All is wrong but there are different ways to deal with the accused. Listen fully to the stories from the victim’s mouth. Follow the evidence and force yes or no answers. This political speak of “let me tell you” or “I will say this” is nonsense. People out and out believe that celebs of journalists did the bad deed but politicians receive more skepticism. People take the side of their left or right hero without really listening. If you can’t see the difference I wonder about your ability to reason, about your moral compass. An Al Franken or Garrison Keillor seem to be a bit different from a Weinstein. ** Uma Thurman had a great tweet: Happy Thanksgiving everyone (except you Harvey, and all your wicked conspirators. I’m glad it’s going slowly-you don’t deserve a bullet)** Pelosi could be a little more eloquent and quit getting in her own way defending the left. Just before I put this page out, Pelosi says Conyers should resign.. WOW! complete turn around.** A woman came forward to the Washington Post trying to push some fake news about Roy Moore. She claimed that she was impregnated by him and then it was found that she was meeting with Project Veritas whose purpose it is to set up stings on the mainstream media. Of course there are REAL reporters at the Post so the story was not published.  Hmm imagine looking up facts and not getting your news from the 700 Club or online scuttlebutt. ** Isn’t all the money and power enough for these men at the top? Law and order SVU must have enough script ideas for another 20 years.** Is all the women standing up and not taking it anymore what we get for losing Hillary? It is like she had to sacrifice herself and gain liberation for the rest of us. So many can’t believe what got into the White house and real truths need to be out there. WAKE
*****Prince Harry and former Deal or no Deal employee, Meghan Markle are engaged .
*****The governor’s award honored Donald Sutherland
***** Fashion Police on E is over.
*****I watched Ozark on Netflix and wasn’t too sure after the first episode but tried the second and then I was in. There were times when I could not quite suspend my disbelief but then there were so many characters that I seemed to recognize from my real life. Bateman and many deserve some love for this project and I will miss Russ in season 2.
*****Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr story sounds like a great doc.
*****The Grammy noms are out and leading the way was Jay-Z with 8. That was followed up with Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, SZA, Childish Gambino and Khalid. Also on the list of nominations are Lorde, Lady Gaga, Imagine Dragons, Bob Dylan, Kraftwerk, Leonard Cohen, Jason Isbell, Gregg Allman, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Bruce Springsteen, Bernie Sanders, Carrie Fisher, Dave Chappelle, Queens of the stone age, Jim Gaffigan, Jerry Seinfeld, Sarah Silverman, Kevin Hart and The Rolling Stones.
*****So glad Search Party on TBS is back!!
*****The Crowns Plaza hotel has a projection on the outside of the building that declares FUCK TRUMP.
*****Don’t take your eyes off this administration and the judges he is putting in place, the rules that he and his cohorts are changing and the rights he is taking away from all of us. We have a lot to deal with now but don’t let his tweets or his slick talkers distract you. Yes we need justice from the Russian probe but somebody is handling that,. I wish the news would let that play out and update us more on what they are taking from us.** If you can’t see what is wtong with a Trump or a Roy Moore, I have to wonder about your moral character.
*****Hooray for Washington Week for 50 years and Meet the Press for 70. Thanks Washington Week for your touching tribute to Gwen Ifill.
*****Dan Rather has a new book, What unites us.
*****Nathan Fillion is back on ABC with The Rookie. The program is inspired by a true story of the oldest rookie in the LAPD from the executive producer of Criminal Minds, Mark Gordon.
*****For the fifth year in a row Michael Jackson has been the top dead celebrity earner.
*****Laurence Fishburne is divorcing Gina Torres.
*****Papa John’s has apologized for blaming the knee taking football players for low pizza sales. C’mon who eats that pizza anyway?.. get a good product!** The alt right has named them their official pizza.
*****Voting has begun for the rock and roll hall of fame. This year we have Bon Jovi, the Moody Blues, Dire Straits, The Cars. Judas Priest, The Eurythmics, The Zombies, J. Geils Band( please finally!!!!!), Depeche Mode and Nina Simone.
*****U.S. court judge Colleen Kollar- Kotelly barred Trump from continuing with plans to exclude transgender people from military service and thinks those who have sued have a good case.
*****So.. What the fuck is the hinky biz going on at Guantanamo?  The place has its own rules and nobody can seem to agree on said rules. Brigadier General Baker found good cause for Nashiri, a suspect in the USS Cole bombing, to lose his lawyers. After the lawyers were allowed to quit, a judge ordered Baker to rescind that order but he refused.  The judge put the General in jail. The General , a U.S. citizen and  the 2nd highest ranking officer in the military claims the judge has no jurisdiction over him. We will have to see how this plays out.
*****James Comey is releasing his story in May with the book A Higher Loyalty.
*****Michael Lewis tells us about all the prep the Obama administration went thru to bring the Trump administration up to snuff in his new nook The Undoing project.
*****Brit Vandegraft married John Witt on October 14 and honeymooned thru Dallas and on to the West.
*****According to the pentagon, America has spent $250 mil a day on war every single day for sixteen years.
*****Donna Brazile’s book Hacks claims the Dem campaigns were offered a chance to bail out the DNC and get much support. The Bernie campaign declined but the Hillary campaign supplied the money. Brazile seemed a bit surprised and rattled about the reaction to her book in the beginning.  After a couple of weeks she settled into it and the defensiveness sort of faded.  She tells us that she has been in politics for fifty years and if we don’t like it ,we don’t have to buy it. She claims she enjoyed Hillary’s book and backed her all the way.  Brazile writes that she got to the bottom of everything when she took over the DNC and was threatened over and over again.
*****Days alert: WTF Adrienne?? Poor Lucas never gets to keep the girl! **Peggy McCay celebrated her 90th.** Keep Hope and Raif together. Damn!
*****So glad to see Katherine Erbe on How to get away with murder.
*****Spot on writing and acting on another level with Jane and Lily and Sam and Martin on Grace and Frankie. What treasures!!  Thrilled to see the appearance of Mary kay Place . Craig Welzbacher who played Myron on Days was on there too.
*****Dinklage, Harrelson and McDormand in Three Billboards… can’t wait.
*****This winter, Trump requested 70 foreign workers with special permission from the U.S. labor department for Mar –A- Lago. He also would like some for various golf clubs thru the H-2B visa program. There are currently 5,136 qualified persons in the area ready to work. America first?
*****The second part of Stranger Things just as good as the first.
*****Scary Clown 45 is being sued because he blocked twitter followers.  He now knows that since he uses his tweets as an ‘instrument of governance’ blocking is not allowed.
*****Fifty years brings Rolling Stone magazine an HBO doc, a rock and roll hall of fame exhibit and the whole thing up for sale.
*****Rand Paul was attacked by his neighbor as he mowed his lawn.
*****Ok.. I realize that shows like The View have to shift.. well I guess they do.. But I don’t get how they can talk about a shooting and then hey ”view your deal’.  C’mon, it just seems so inappropriate to suddenly talk about spending $ on silly things. I always tune out when this shit happens.. can’t this shit be at the end of the show. No offense to those companies but I do not watch for that. .. But good for Sonny Hostin for going to Puerto Rico to tell their story.
*****Sad to see Dale Earnhardt Jr run his last race. Is Chase Elliott the next Mr. popular ?
*****An American woman, Shalane Flanagan won the New York marathon.
*****Manafort had 3 passports and we won’t get to the trial for he and Gates until May.
*****Charles Manson is dead. Writer Phil Luciano still has some letters from him that he does not know what to do with. They are now headed into the Lincoln library in Springfield, Il.** How did Charlie wrangle such good publicity from American Horror story? The timing as usual is impeccable. Charles (Manson) in charge?** The History channel seems to have some unheard recordings from Charlie that will air on December 3 as Manson Speaks.
*****Prince Salmon Mohamed is purging in Saudi Arabia. His crackdown has included about 500 other Princes who have been rounded up. He is consolidating power and getting rid of enemies. Just days before Jared Kushner went for a visit.  It seems like so many ego driven men in the world today are grabbing all the power they can.
*****Check out Jeff Ross roasts the border.
*****The recent elections went pretty well for the left including Bill DeBlasio. Congrats to all the newly elected including the first openly trans woman and an African American mayor in Montana. Nobody should get too cocky.
*****The VA says they won’t help the dishonorably discharged per the Trump team.  Hmm no help from VA, no universal health care.. I guess soldiers should suffer in silence, beat their families or become addicts.
*****Wow Darrell Hammond was awesome on a Criminal Minds that Aisha Tyler directed.** BTW Did ya see the episode where Mantagna utters the line, “I don’t like a the snakes.’? OMG
*****HBO is making a limited series about the Jonestown tragedy with Vince Gilligan and Octavia Spencer.
***** Watch for Peter Fonda in The Ballad of Lefty Brown coming out December 15.
***** So.. Tiny kitchens are a thing?
***** Pumpkin spice has reached its peak. Pumpkin out: Maple in.
*****Check out Sean Astin as Paul Manafort in Houseguest (on Colbert).
*****I thought my head was gonna explode when Bill Maher had Michael Moore, Donna Brazile, Chris Matthews and Sarah Silverman on the same episode.
*****So the People mag sexiest man is stupid anyway but Idris isn’t the man this year? WTF??
*****Jim and Andy: The story inside the story inside the story of Carrey playing Kaufman. This is a great piece of work.  Is it wrong to say how hot it is that Jim gets this look in his eye about Andy? Even though he is no longer inhabited by Kaufman, something seems to bubble inside him when he talks about the man.
*****On November 14th Bob Corker held hearings on executive authority to use nuke’s .
*****The Louis CK film I was looking forward to ‘I love you Daddy’ looks like a wash.
*****They say the Pres has no control over fuel prices but Trump in.. prices soaring.
*****Rwanda has offered to host African migrants stranded in Libya.
*****Why do people always say they did not think it would happen to them or their communities when shootings happen? How long does it take to sink in to Americans that mental illness and this obsession with weapons is everywhere?  I will agree with a couple of things that the NRA says like we need to enforce the rules in place better a that mental health is a big part of the problem. If mental health is the real issue then where is the universal health care we need to take care of this problem?
*****GQ has named Colin Kaepernick citizen of the year.
*****Just as I am posting this the Mike Flynn charges were announced. They broke into the news with this news. A real reporter must never get any sleep in these Trump times. Apparently he is pleading guilty and cooperating in the Russian investigation. Go Go GO DOJ!
*****Why is the last sketch on Saturday Night Live usually the best?

Basic Things to Know About Air Conditioning Trunking
If you thought that trunking was something to do with elephants, then you probably haven’t had a great deal to do with air conditioning systems. Installed air con usually involves a fair amount of pipework which can look unsightly, so enclosing it in trunking can help improve the visual impression as well as protect the pipes and allow for insulation if they run outside.
Air-Con Basics
Air conditioning used to be the preserve of large office buildings, hotels, factories or data centres. Today, installations are increasingly common in smaller businesses like shops and restaurants, small offices and even in private homes. Part of the reason for this is the desire for a comfortable environment, but it’s also because our houses and workplaces are increasingly home to computers and other devices that generate heat while they’re in use.
Air conditioning systems in houses or offices consist of two parts: a fan unit inside the room and a condenser and compressor mounted outside. These two parts are joined by copper pipework which allows liquid to circulate between the two units. Fluid warmed by the heat from the room is carried out to the condenser, where it is persuaded to give up its heat to the atmosphere. Cool liquid is then returned inside, where the fan unit uses it to cool the air being blown into the room.
When installing air conditioning, it’s important to have a neat and tidy finish, as we don’t want to sacrifice the look of our rooms to unsightly pipework. If the pipes joining the parts of the air-con units are hidden – above suspended ceilings, for example – then there’s no problem. If, however, they run through exposed areas, the use of air conditioning trunking is essential, as it helps to disguise them and keep things looking tidy.
Trunking Options
Most commonly, pipework for air-con systems needs to run down or through walls. While you can just clip copper pipes to the brickwork, this is unsightly, especially in areas where the public are present or in domestic environments. The use of air conditioning trunking is a simple low-cost solution which provides a much neater finish by hiding the pipes. It also covers the places where the pipes pass through walls.
If the pipes need to run on external walls, the use of trunking has added benefits. It can protect the pipes from the elements and stop them from corroding. It can also house insulation to protect the pipes from freezing in the winter months.
Trunking comes in straight runs, usually in one- or two-metre lengths. There are also a number of different extras, including elbow joints for where pipes change direction and outlet covers and wall plates for a neat and tidy finish in places where they pass through walls.
Joints, both straight and tee-shaped, are used to join the trunking in places where pipes diverge or a run exceeds the length of the standard trunking sections.
