Greetings MasterDetective,
I'm very intrigued about what does Wakasa Rumi have to do with Haibara. Like at the end of File 1112.
Hope you could shed light on this.
Thank you!
Hello!
Regarding Wakasa's fixation on Haibara, we do know from File 1097 that she blames Haibara's mother for her life getting messed up.
Tumblr media
After the reveal of her relationship with Amanda, it's pretty much confirmed that her hatred towards Miyano Elena is due to her being the creator of APTX poison that killed her mother figure. We still don't truly know how exactly the Miyano parents died, apart from the surface-level "lab fire accident" explanation, so there is still room left there for a hidden backstory where Asaka was involved in their death (soon after Haibara's birth 18 years ago, which could have been 17 years ago after the Kohji case).
In File 1070, we learned that Wakasa is aware of Sherry being the successor scientist behind the current APTX creations, and that she betrayed the organization.
Tumblr media
However, Wakasa doesn't know if Haibara is continuing her research outside of the organization. It's therefore possible that her fixation on Haibara is due to her trying to find out if Haibara is creating more APTX poison or not, and whether she needs to do something about it (especially if she potentially did something to Haibara's parents in the past).

I know Aoyama is never going to give us any real queer rep but... the fact that Vermouth chose a kiss to poison Mary when there really was no need for it, plus that she mentioned Mary's sister Elena makes me sort of think that Vermouth and Elena had something going on back then and she wanted to send Mary off with a kiss for nostalgic reasons. That'd be quite fucked up, obviously, but seems to me like exactly the kind of thing Vermouth would do.

Lately I've been wondering if Ai knows her mother's maiden name. If she actually knows it, then it would've been easy to associate it with Masumi's last name. Just notice that it's the same last name, without meaning a thing.
Actually I'm not even sure if Shuuichi knows he used to have an auntie...

Sorry if I bother you but Q24 that means shiho lived with her family before they died? What interview is this? :)
Hi!! It's no bother at all🥰🥰💛💛 If anything I'm sorry for making you wait this long🙈
The closest thing I found is this question from Let's talk with Aoyama-Sensei in 2018:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope he does give us such a wholesome and beautiful scene soon🥺🥺🥺
Also I'm still mad the studio for making Elena's hair platinum blonde, she looks sooooo much better with the original reddish brown hair😒
I went out of my way and edited it to give me a peace of mind😂

Regardless, she's such an angel🥺🥰

i just had a thought that if Mary Sera and Elena Miyano were sisters then Akai Shuichi(Sera’s son) and Akemi Miyano(Elena’s son) are cousins. but it was stated that to gain entry to the BO Akai Shuichi dated Akemi in earlier publications. did Gosho forget about it???this is incest.

Personally, I don't buy the idea that Rei had a crush on Elena Miyano. While we don't know much about his family, it's heavily implied that his parents are absent from his life, whether physically or emotionally. We also know that a large part of Rei's childhood was shaped by being bullied for being mixed, and Elena was one of the few people who could understand him because she was also mixed. His attachment to her seems more like that of a very lonely child who needed a mother figure.

I still think Azusa looks the most like Elena... it's just because of the side part I'm sure, but Gosho was the one who designed them that way!
I'm sure Amuro would be shocked if she dyed her hair blonde...

How old do you think Karasuma is now? Is he still an old man, or is he a younger man, did he possibly rejuvenate?
Karasuma Renya "Child of Seven" Theory
I think Karasuma Renya is in child-form like Conan, and is planned to be Conan's mirror-version on the bad guy's side.
"Nanatsu no ko", the crow song that the boss uses (File 475), can also be read as "child of seven", which would fit with that he chose that song as a theme reflecting his current state, apart from the crow theme (essentially that BO members are sending their text messages to a 7-year-old child, signaled by the dial melody).
Tumblr media
Also, the fact that the research has lead to side effects such as shrinking (as seen with Conan, Haibara, Mary) and potentially halted aging (as seen with Vermouth) further presents the possibility that the boss was affected by them (Old man permanently stuck in a child's form).
It would also explain why Haibara described the drug that she was trying to create as "a foolish thing that most humans in the world wouldn't deem valuable" (File 384), because if the boss is working towards a cure for his state, then a drug that makes you age up fast wouldn’t be useful to anyone who can already age naturally, and people would normally value time and wouldn't want to lose it by growing old faster.
Tumblr media
Haibara also monologued in Mystery Train (after recalling Elena's words about their dream research) "I didn't understand that this drug was something that shouldn't be made... but to prevent people from getting involved, depending on this drug is my only option" (File 821). This could have been a direct hint to that she was referring to the antidote drug as both the drug that shouldn't be made and the drug that she was gonna depend on to transform back to Sherry and sacrifice herself in order to prevent harm to her friends.
Tumblr media
The APTX antidote effect being the true intended goal of the research makes the most sense, as it's not only consistent with both Haibara's drug description & Pisco's words ["who would have guessed you would develop it to this extent?" (File 242) | recreating the initial rare problem (shrinking) is a big step towards finding its solution], but that it also indirectly progresses the BO's research plans without Gosho having to introduce conviniently talented researchers to take over Sherry's research and to somehow progress the research in an even shorter time than the prodigy Sherry herself.
Tumblr media
Instead, by having Sherry herself finish the BO's drug (the APTX antidote) but for Shinichi's sake instead of Renya's, all it would take is for the BO to steal it from Conan/Haibara so they can progress with their evil plans before getting defeated in the climax.

Some thoughts about APTX...
In File.821, it is revealed that in the tape to Shiho for her eighteenth birthday, Elena said to her:
“The truth is, your mom is making a truly terrifying drug at the moment. My lab mates are getting really excited about it; they say it's like a dream drug. Your dad and I are putting all our hopes on it and calling it the Silver Bullet! But in order to complete the drug, your dad and I will have to leave you and your sister. Please understand, Shiho.”
—In order to complete the drug, your dad and I will have to leave you and your sister. Please understand.
She asks Shiho to “please understand” their departure in a tape that is meant for Shiho’s eighteenth birthday; she had planned all these recordings in advance and made them before her own death. These recordings are meant to cover the years of Shiho’s life until she reaches majority, from her first to her twentieth birthday—and all of them were recorded before Shiho was even a year old.
With that context in mind, the “leaving” she’s talking about sure sounds like the permanent kind, rather than, say, merely leaving them temporarily in someone else’s care to focus on their research. So Elena knew they were going to die. And according to her, the reason they have to die is to facilitate the creation and completion of Silver Bullet.
And if we accept that reading, then the next question becomes:
Why must the Miyanos “leave”—die—in order to “complete” the drug?
How fantastical might Aoyama go with this drug?
And this ties into a different question I’ve had for a long, long time, which is: why did the Organization spend so many years (and money and effort) into raising Shiho, putting her through the best education possible, shaping her into a prodigy, a child genius, all so that she can carry on her parent’s research? Why wait over ten years for Shiho? Why not just recruit a different scientist? No matter how wild or out-there Miyano’s ideas may have been, it’s unlikely that the Organization (especially with their deep pockets) can’t find even a single other scientist willing to carry on that research.
Additionally, Vermouth’s fervor in making sure Sherry is killed—not captured, killed—also raises questions. “If you want someone to hate for this, blame your parents who took over this foolish research,” she says to Haibara right before she’s about to shoot her. I know many people read this as a personal hatred she has against the older Miyanos and in turn Sherry for what they had created/were trying to create, but what if her goal is simply opposite to the Organization’s and the Boss’s, and not enmity directed specifically at individual persons? The Organization raised Sherry to continue the research; Vermouth wants Sherry dead so the research cannot continue. (She agrees to Conan’s demand during the Full Moon case that she give up on Sherry, in part because she sees how dedicated he is to fight the Organization and shield Sherry from it, and for a long time she does abide by that agreement, but then she tries to kill Sherry again during Mystery Train because Bourbon has found Sherry and aims to bring her back to the Organization. Vermouth’s preeminent goal has always seemed to be to prevent Sherry from returning to the Organization by any means necessary.)
And to be fair, all this may have just been, well, the product of the author having already decided on the character profile of “Haibara Ai” that he wants (genius teenage scientist, creator of APTX4869, the Irene Adler to Shinichi’s Holmes) and then just shaping her backstory around that decision. And Elena’s words in that tape may have just been lies and euphemisms to her daughter, cloaking the fact that she can sense that her death is near with allusions to a grander purpose. Parents all want to appear as best as possible in front of their children.
But if it’s not that, might there be some other reason? Again, just how fantastical might Aoyama go with this drug? Might there be some genetic component required here?
Might APTX4869’s effects have something to do with the Miyanos’ genes? Or rather, Sera family genes? Because why is it that, out of everyone who has supposedly been fed the drug (the APTX victim list that we keep seeing appears quite lengthy), only three people have been shown to the readers to have survived, two of whom (Mary and Haibara) we know for sure are closely related? (I think I once read someone saying that Aoyama said in an interview that Haibara and Conan aren’t related, but that’s so many layers of hearsay that I don’t know how much stock I should put in it until I see the print interview. I just know that one panel in Scarlet Return (File.897/Ep783)—where Conan talks about how Yukiko is “good at disguising herself as family” and then immediately thinks about how she also did a good job disguising him as Haibara that time—that panel still has me going eye emoji.)
Anyways, there are more questions than answers after all that, but it’s all so interesting to think about!!!
