I still think Azusa looks the most like Elena... it's just because of the side part I'm sure, but Gosho was the one who designed them that way!
I'm sure Amuro would be shocked if she dyed her hair blonde...

one day the secret will unravel (and i'll be there watching)
Vermouth studies Mizunashi Rena on TV.
~1.8k. Kir / Vermouth. past Miyano Elena / Vermouth.
rating: mature
__
Vermouth leans back comfortably against stacked pillows, her long legs extending out casually on the king-sized bed. She takes a sip of her Sherry, before setting the glass back down onto the bedside table, her eyes still focusing on the large TV screen hanging on the wall.
On the TV screen, newscaster Mizunashi Rena is reporting on the infrastructure bill scandal that's been the talk of the town for the past week. The scandal has been engineered by the organization - specifically, by Vermouth and Kir, with the information collected by Bourbon - to taint a certain politician's reputation and ruin his chances for the upcoming election that he plans to run in. Of course, the organization also has plans to offer help him recover from the scandal, provided that the politician cooperates with some demands from the organization.
Watching Mizunashi Rena on TV in a light blue suit and skirt, with her professional newscaster's attitude, her dark hair neatly tied back into a ponytail, makes Vermouth marvel at how Kir has grown into the role so well. She's curated an excellent image as Mizunashi Rena, and a large following of fans who watch her news reporting ever so dedicatedly and loyally. Compassionate and thoughtful and always asking the most insightful questions during an interview. All while subtly directing the news in the direction the organization wants, filtering out information that the organization doesn't want reported, inserting things that the organization does want. The video of her donating blood at the factory explosion scene a few years ago went viral, and her popularity grew even more. Mizunashi Rena is on the rise at the news station, perhaps even more so than Kir is in the organization.

Some thoughts about APTX...
In File.821, it is revealed that in the tape to Shiho for her eighteenth birthday, Elena said to her:
“The truth is, your mom is making a truly terrifying drug at the moment. My lab mates are getting really excited about it; they say it's like a dream drug. Your dad and I are putting all our hopes on it and calling it the Silver Bullet! But in order to complete the drug, your dad and I will have to leave you and your sister. Please understand, Shiho.”
—In order to complete the drug, your dad and I will have to leave you and your sister. Please understand.
She asks Shiho to “please understand” their departure in a tape that is meant for Shiho’s eighteenth birthday; she had planned all these recordings in advance and made them before her own death. These recordings are meant to cover the years of Shiho’s life until she reaches majority, from her first to her twentieth birthday—and all of them were recorded before Shiho was even a year old.
With that context in mind, the “leaving” she’s talking about sure sounds like the permanent kind, rather than, say, merely leaving them temporarily in someone else’s care to focus on their research. So Elena knew they were going to die. And according to her, the reason they have to die is to facilitate the creation and completion of Silver Bullet.
And if we accept that reading, then the next question becomes:
Why must the Miyanos “leave”—die—in order to “complete” the drug?
How fantastical might Aoyama go with this drug?
And this ties into a different question I’ve had for a long, long time, which is: why did the Organization spend so many years (and money and effort) into raising Shiho, putting her through the best education possible, shaping her into a prodigy, a child genius, all so that she can carry on her parent’s research? Why wait over ten years for Shiho? Why not just recruit a different scientist? No matter how wild or out-there Miyano’s ideas may have been, it’s unlikely that the Organization (especially with their deep pockets) can’t find even a single other scientist willing to carry on that research.
Additionally, Vermouth’s fervor in making sure Sherry is killed—not captured, killed—also raises questions. “If you want someone to hate for this, blame your parents who took over this foolish research,” she says to Haibara right before she’s about to shoot her. I know many people read this as a personal hatred she has against the older Miyanos and in turn Sherry for what they had created/were trying to create, but what if her goal is simply opposite to the Organization’s and the Boss’s, and not enmity directed specifically at individual persons? The Organization raised Sherry to continue the research; Vermouth wants Sherry dead so the research cannot continue. (She agrees to Conan’s demand during the Full Moon case that she give up on Sherry, in part because she sees how dedicated he is to fight the Organization and shield Sherry from it, and for a long time she does abide by that agreement, but then she tries to kill Sherry again during Mystery Train because Bourbon has found Sherry and aims to bring her back to the Organization. Vermouth’s preeminent goal has always seemed to be to prevent Sherry from returning to the Organization by any means necessary.)
And to be fair, all this may have just been, well, the product of the author having already decided on the character profile of “Haibara Ai” that he wants (genius teenage scientist, creator of APTX4869, the Irene Adler to Shinichi’s Holmes) and then just shaping her backstory around that decision. And Elena’s words in that tape may have just been lies and euphemisms to her daughter, cloaking the fact that she can sense that her death is near with allusions to a grander purpose. Parents all want to appear as best as possible in front of their children.
But if it’s not that, might there be some other reason? Again, just how fantastical might Aoyama go with this drug? Might there be some genetic component required here?
Might APTX4869’s effects have something to do with the Miyanos’ genes? Or rather, Sera family genes? Because why is it that, out of everyone who has supposedly been fed the drug (the APTX victim list that we keep seeing appears quite lengthy), only three people have been shown to the readers to have survived, two of whom (Mary and Haibara) we know for sure are closely related? (I think I once read someone saying that Aoyama said in an interview that Haibara and Conan aren’t related, but that’s so many layers of hearsay that I don’t know how much stock I should put in it until I see the print interview. I just know that one panel in Scarlet Return (File.897/Ep783)—where Conan talks about how Yukiko is “good at disguising herself as family” and then immediately thinks about how she also did a good job disguising him as Haibara that time—that panel still has me going eye emoji.)
Anyways, there are more questions than answers after all that, but it’s all so interesting to think about!!!

I know Aoyama is never going to give us any real queer rep but... the fact that Vermouth chose a kiss to poison Mary when there really was no need for it, plus that she mentioned Mary's sister Elena makes me sort of think that Vermouth and Elena had something going on back then and she wanted to send Mary off with a kiss for nostalgic reasons. That'd be quite fucked up, obviously, but seems to me like exactly the kind of thing Vermouth would do.

What do you think of the Miyano Sisters, Hondou siblings, Akai siblings, Morofushi brothers, Hagiwara siblings and Sera sisters?
I love the Miyano sisters (Akemi & Shiho), because Akemi is such a relatable older sister who is well portrayed as a protective family member and you can see how much attachment Shiho has for her as the little sister who never knew parental love from anyone other than her sister.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the Hondou siblings too (Hidemi & Eisuke), for the same reasons... plus, it's a nice alternate take on the previous, where the younger sibling is male. Hidemi is very relatable as an older sibling like Akemi, and Gosho portrayed Eisuke's personality very well as someone who had an older sister as a role model. It's very common that boys with prominent female figures in their life are more comfortable around females, and it was well portrayed through out Kir arc when he was hanging with Ran & Sonoko.
Tumblr media
I think the Akai siblings (Shuuichi, Shuukichi & Masumi) dynamic is more unique though for Gosho, since he rarely writes 3-sibling families and also because of how much they grew apart, which I also love for a change. It's realistically portrayed how Masumi becomes such a tomboy from how she views her action masculine-energy-filled family members, and also how her limited time with her oldest brother has given him a sense of mystic and interest and has turned him into an admirable role-model that she wants to be like. She also has a softer bubbly side that she most likely gained from viewing her second brother, which creates a perfect balance in her that is different from the completely polarized opposites that are Shuuichi and Shuukichi. Shuuichi is very stoic and emotionally withdrawn, which could have been as a result of trauma and the burden of having a family to take care of in place of his father at a young age. I truly appreciate his relatable close relationship with his younger brother, that is strong enough to break the current lack of communication within the family. Shuukichi is a very realistic middle-sibling. It's very common that middle-kids get the short end of the stick, due to the youngest getting most "child" attention and oldest getting the most "adult" attention, and it reflects well with how Shuukichi was willing to get adopted by the Haneda family, who were gonna treat him as a cherished son and give him more attention than his own family to fill the hole of losing their biological son (Kohji). Despite still caring and loving his own family, where he still guides and helps a little sister, seeks his mother approval and relies on his older brother for support, he grew up to become more detached from his family in general, which makes the relationship dynamic of the siblings more mysterious and interesting.
Tumblr media
About the Morofushi brothers (Taka’aki & Hiromitsu), I would say that I love and appreciate it more from Hiro's side (the younger sibling) than Taka’aki's. We haven't seen as much loving and caring side from Koumei's perspective as much as seeing a loving and idolizing side from Hiro's perspective. Due to Koumei having a very traditional japanese manner of dealing with grief, you can't truly feel the weight of his loss. That is also because we haven't seen much of their relationship when they were growing up. I think the Morofushi brothers therefore needs more fleshing out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for Hagiwara siblings (Chihaya & Kenji), I would say that I love and appreciate their siblinghood more from Chihaya's perspective (the older sibling), since we have seen her showcasing her grief more through actions in her intro, and we got a proper flashback to when she felt cared for by her close-in-age younger brother. I love their close relationship, and Gosho once again tied the siblinghood well to the characterization of the younger sibling, where just like Eisuke, Kenji grew up to be more comfortable around girls and even became a ladies man. Chihaya seems to have also become somewhat tomboyish too like Masumi from having a brother who is that close in age, which further reflects a realistic sibling-dynamic. I think this relationship also needs time to develop through flashbacks, much like Morofushi, so we can get a view on Kenji's perspective.
Tumblr media
Don't have much to say on the Sera sisters (Mary & Elena), since it hasn't been developed yet, but I can imagine it's a similar sibling dynamic to Akemi's & Shiho's.

Miyano Family ~2~
Elena Miyano, Shiho's mother, is likewise the subject of a lot of speculation. Why is she referred to as 'Death Angel' within the organization, for example? In chapter 424 of the manga, 'Angel who fell into hell,' Shiho translates this nickname into Japanese. Because of his studies, her father's nickname (mad scientist) persisted with him. But what is Elena's nickname? Elena, did you focus solely on drug development or did she branch out into other fields? Or was it offered to emphasize the disparity between Elena and her sister?
Tumblr media
According to chapter 425 of the manga, she left tapes to her daughter. Was she only talking about himself, her first love, and other personal issues on these tapes, or did she leave other information on the subject? Because she was worried that the organization would find the tapes, she may have hidden the information on the tape. Conan only listened to the first few minutes of these tapes in the manga. That's why he might have missed it.
Tumblr media
Also, I would like to point out one more thing about the tapes. It was said that only Elena spoke on the tapes. Why did Atsushi never speak? Didn't he want to say anything to his daughter? Or why didn't Elena leave Akemi a message? Akemi was very young then. If so, what message did they leave?

Sorry if I bother you but Q24 that means shiho lived with her family before they died? What interview is this? :)
Hi!! It's no bother at all🥰🥰💛💛 If anything I'm sorry for making you wait this long🙈
The closest thing I found is this question from Let's talk with Aoyama-Sensei in 2018:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope he does give us such a wholesome and beautiful scene soon🥺🥺🥺
Also I'm still mad the studio for making Elena's hair platinum blonde, she looks sooooo much better with the original reddish brown hair😒
I went out of my way and edited it to give me a peace of mind😂

Regardless, she's such an angel🥺🥰

Akai Family's BUGS
I want to explain the additional arrangements for  Akai family that Gosho made and it made a lot of BUGS . At first Conan was a short story, then it became a long story. So there are a lot of additional settings that he made that cause a lot of irrational BUGS, and those are all made for plot , or he just wanted to draw what he wanted to draw.
Like the “good sister” Akemi’s BUGS that I've explained, the Bourbon’s BUGS that he was changed to being a NOC, and there is the addition of Akai family, especially the setting of Mary's character who is made to have a relative relationship with Elena. Although at this time it is not certain whether they are real blood relatives, or just a bomb that Gosho made.
In the early stages, Gosho made Shuichi Akai's character a wolf who doesn't need to have a family, suddenly his big family appears out of nowhere, and Haibara was made all her family members was dead, but suddenly her big relatives appear. I realized Conan's world is very small, everyone knows each other. This makes me want to sigh.

Translation
Is that The original Concept Akai had a family?.
Nope. Since Ran has no rivals, I thought of making a strong character who likes Conan (Shinichi) appear. Then I planned to make her Akai's little sister. As for Shukichi, he is initially portrayed as Akai's younger brother and later appears as Yumi's ex-lover. I think it's better if Yumi's lover is a strong man. When I draw, I think when a guy is clumsy, but he's competent that's pretty good.
Gosho made Masumi's character as Shuichi's sister just to make a love rival for Ran, then he made Shukichi just to make a love story with Yumi. I don't understand what the author was thinking. He really likes making long love stories in his comics, even though the CP is clearly already set up from the beginning.
As for the author, did you make Akai family due to the popularity of Shuichi's character?. Although there will be a lot of BUGS. Why did you set Mary's character to be Elena's sister?. Why not set them up as childhood friends?. Does this have anything to do with the drug list?. Is the drug related to genes?. Why did you make Mary drank the same drug as Haibara?. The reason is still unclear.
You don't have to think too much about errors
Mary didn’t know about her sister and her sister’s family. When Mary was still communicating with Elena, Akemi was a kid. How could Mary didn’t know about her niece, and Elena didn’t tell Mary about her daughters. Is the relationship between the two sisters good?
When Mary went to Japan, why didn't she try to communicate with Elena and find out how her sister was doing. If Elena didn't communicate with Mary it might be because she was being watched by the organization, while Mary was not watching by the organization at that time.
Ayumi who is just an elementary student can see Haibara's resemblance to Masumi. On the other hand, Shuichi has high IQ can't see the resemblance of his mother to Haibara. Shuichi, are you too mesmerized by your loli?.
Vermouth who already knew there were two survivors of the APTX drug, she still drank it to Mary. If Vermouth wanted Mary dead, why didn’t she just shoot her?. There are two bodyguards beside Vermouth. Isn't she afraid that the effects of the drug will be known by the others?.
The organization already knows Tsutomu Akai. Then, before entering the organization Shuichi used his real name, but the organization just chased him after his identity was exposed when he infiltrated into the organization. Shouldn't the organization chased him before he sneaked into the organization. As Mary said, they went to Japan to avoid being chased, Mary and the others changed their names, but Shuichi didn't.
Kohji Haneda was killed by the organization, then the Haneda family adopted Shukichi as their son. Why didn't the organization find out about him, and Shukichi was still able to appear on TV without any worries.
Tsutomu disappeared to keep his family safe, and told them to go to Japan, but Vermouth knew Masumi's identity and didn't kill her.
It's been 17 years since Tsutomu disappeared.  Why didn’t Tsutomu, who was an MI6 agent tried to contact his family by using disguised, change his name or use a fake number so as not to be tracked or asked his colleagues for help if he was being targeted?.
Etc.

would this be a good time to ask where the idea that vermouth hates miyano elena and in turn also hates haibara come from? i had always thought that she is dead set on killing haibara not because of personal hatred but to ensure that haibara cannot continue the aptx/silver bullet research, so i interpreted her antagonism as being towards the development of the drug and not towards the miyanos. but i see that it’s mostly taken as fact that vermouth harbors a personal grievance against miyano elena, with many theorizing that it stems from the miyano version of the aptx/silver bullet prototype. is it simply from the “an angel has never smiled upon me, not once” line that sharon said in new york, or is there something else i’m missing?
