Did Evangeline make Jacks’ heart beat? My theory…

(Spoilers for both series)

So I’m re reading the entire series including Caraval and I’m almost through with OUABH

So when Tella stabs Jacks in Finale she asks is she will still be his true love. Jacks says he doesn’t know. There is no further mention in that book about his heart beating.

In OUABH Evangeline references Jacks chest many times.

Chapter 36

‘Evangeline wanted nothing to do with Jacks’s cold hands, or his cold arms, or the rock-solid ice that was his chest.’

Chapter 37

‘But even though Jacks had held her all through the night, his arms were wooden in their grip, his chest was a flat rock against her head.’

No mention of his heart beating until after the night in the crypt when she helps him home. The moment she touches his chest she feels it as he sleeps.

‘She might have suspected him dead if not for the rise and fall of his chest and the steady beat of his heart. His heart.’

This moment definitely feels monumental of Stephanie would have included it earlier.

Also I think are important

Jacks becomes very tired after leaving the crypt. Eva has to carry him before he passes out. He says it’s the vampire venom. Is it actually a result of his heart starting to beat again?

As Jacks is leaving the crypt his leaves his dagger on the floor, the dagger that Tella stabbed him with, as though he is ready to put that part of his life in the past.

I think it’s also significant that his hair changed back from blue to gold. I know it was due to the vampire venom, but blue is very much a colour linked to Tella, is this why Jacks chose blue out of any colour, as a reminder.

I think Stephanie included these changes to his character in this moment are significant to the change in Jacks character from that moment.

The only question is if his heart beat for Evangeline, why does he still want to go back in time?

Is it that he believes he can only have one true love, therefore he’s scared he might be wrong and kill Eva?

Is it that he actually loves Eva where he didn’t love Tella, making him more at risk of becoming mortal?

Personally I think Tella is a safe choice for him. He realises that what he felt for Tella was a fraction of what he feels for Eva. He’s still scared that his kiss might kill her. And the part of him that doesn’t understand human emotions believes going back in time for Tella is a way to get what he wants without the heartbreak that would come if something happened to Evangeline. For the first time he is loving unselfishly

I just saw a tiktok that made me rethink everything I know about jacks and eva.

So we all know how tella is jacks' one true love right, but she basically chose legend over him even though for jacks tella was supposed to love him and be with him. Well the girl in that tiktok said that jacks has a curse which is tella being his one true love but since his one true love chose another that means that jacks could either let this curse ruin his entire life or he could do what his one true love did and CHOOSE who he actually loves. Which he did without eva's knowledge.

So this got me thinking, what if jacks choosing eva is what breaks his curse and now he isn't tied to tella and can actually be with eva without killing her with his kiss. And if that is the case this also means that each fate has the power to break their own curse so lala could finally be a bride without her husbands dying in the process and same for each fate.

Besides we know that in this universe each story has the potential for infinite endings and Stephanie said that curse has bonus scenes with different endings which means that there could be an ending where jacks breaks the curse and is finally with eva and another where he doesn't and she can never be with him cause he wouldn't allow it as he wouldn't want to hurt her in any way.

Do you think Jacks will find out that Tella is not his true love and did he really give up on that idea? and what do you think will make him want to be with Eva?

that's what makes me most curious tbh. because even though he went through that traumatic moment, he still chose to reject her knowing that he couldn't keep her. it's not that he doesn't want to, he can't. jacks is aware of how much he cares for evangeline, but he knows that if he keeps her, he will eventually kill her. it's one of the reasons why i think we need a pov of someone close to him since it won't be him.

i could also say that he will only try to help her because what apollo did is horrible, but the synopsis indicates that he will fight for her heart. it makes me think that he will find out early on in the book that he has a chance with eva, or it could really be that he just wants to help her.

i think from the moment he sacrificed his goal for eva's life, he's already given up on the idea. it would be a little redundant if he pursued the subject, especially when stephanie has already established that eva's death broke him (which makes me think he really stopped and understood the magnitude of his feelings there.) it would be repetitive, so i don't think he's going to insist on it anymore.

it's possible, because he's kind of crazy and he's spent ages killing everyone who got close to him. it messes with someone's head, so it wouldn't be surprising if he still insisted. i just wouldn't like it lol
