DS9 2x10 Sanctuary thoughts (rewatching, so possible future spoilers)

I love Kira and Sisko's relationship, they work so good off each other

I always thought this episode would come back to bite them in the butt later on in the series... I guess not

Kira is so uncomfortable with being in charge here, bless her, but she's doing her damned best

Julian's outrage: "Are all your leaders women?" "Yes." "All of them?" "You heard her, Julian."

I do kind of like clumsy matriarchal societies, even if I don't agree with that set-up any more than I agree with the patriarchy

Yay for polyamory, but why does that have to be weird to Kira? I guess in a matriarchy it's more likely polyandry anyway...

Bonding over horrible clothing, I get that

I love Jake and Nog's friendship <3 But, yet again, JAKE'S SO YOUNG. Imean seriously, dabo girl what? (He is sweet tho)

Huh, that sure looks like Spock on the crime list...

I think I forget how much I like Quark, his whole routine as he picked up Nog was hilarious. Also, how Quark later broke up the fight with a snarl, and Nog giving a little snarl once he's safely behind his uncle :3 You don't see their relationship much but it is cute here

I really do get the Bajorans' arguments, it does suck, but "Do you really think we could stand by and do nothing?" is pretty understandable. I do think their genuinely sorry not to be able to just help.

Oh my goodness, this woman is so entitled. I understand where she's coming from and that she thinks they could help Bajor, but the Bajorans don't have to accept the risk! Especially as there is another planet you can settle on that will probably be easier to farm on - it's not like they're tossing you out for nothing, and I'm fairly certain the Bajoran answer would have been different if there really were no other options. But there is a Very Good Option there!

I really don't like how cold she is towards Kira, she has no sense of perspective really. That's what she thinks friends are?

I realllly don't get what the Skrreean boy's problem was SO MUCH that he wanted to go and fight Bajor. I mean he seemed to have a mighty bad attitude as soon as he got on the station... I guess massive lifetime trauma? And transferring his hatred for their former oppressors onto the Bajorans?

I hope she sees just how HARD the crew are trying to rescue her boy and doesn't blame them. They don't want this!

Another episode without a clear-cut "good" ending, but I did like it, even if it's sad how much bad blood there was by the end of the episode for no good reason.

Winter Holidays Edition

Shota Aizawa

Unsurprisingly, not the most enthusiastic holiday cheerleader

Mostly appreciates having time off to spend relaxing, sleeping, or cuddling up somewhere cozy

He wouldn't say or show it, but he's excited to have more energy to spend doting on the people he's closest to

Not that he'd get super into cooking or do a whole thorough house cleaning, but you'd notice he's chipping in more here and there, and possibly even offering to make something small (if he's feeling particularly perky)

While he's not really interested in big events or gatherings, Shota definitely enjoys taking the time to find the kind of present for someone that would make them start bawling with happiness

He's also not big on receiving gifts, but can be pleasantly caught off guard with something meaningful and practical

If he's been needing more stationary or has been struggling with certain tasks, gifts that would make those kind of things more tolerable for him would mean a lot

Hizashi Yamada

It's ya boi, the Winter Holiday MC

Polar opposite to Shota - again, not very surprising

Although he likes having parties and getting to express festive excitement with people, Hizashi definitely enjoys the wind down with his favorite people at home (probably his favorite part, tbh)

Somehow manages to get Shota to wear a holiday hat, but can't convince him to get more into the spirit than that

Wants to get something for everybody, so usually everyone gets a small trinket just as a "THINKING OF YOU" from Hizashi

His favorite people, though, get absurdly large gifts

One year he got Shota and Nemuri giant teddy bears that they had no where to put, so he ended up keeping them in his room

Shota has so many holiday clothes now

There was a size limitation on gifts after that

He's been making a genuine effort to get Shota more practical and less...uh, difficult to store presents

He was embarrassed when Shota snorted at the socks Hizashi had gotten him, but was reassured that it was a good sign

If you were together before Eri and Shinso came into your lives, holidays would have been mostly curated by you and Hizashi, with Shota doing as little as he could get away with (not in a "I hate this" way; he just has to be mindful and allocate his energy wisely)

Shota didn't always accompany you and Hizashi to events, but that was fine 'cause y'all had a blast being each other's party hard enablers

And then you'd get to go home and unwind with the chillest of dudes

After Eri and Shinso become part of the family, holiday events were attended even less in favor of spoiling these kids

Shota didn't necessarily need an excuse to forego parties, but he had two now, so

He also seemed to really enjoy introducing Eri to holidays, traditions, and seasonal treats

Hizashi loves getting to take holiday family photos

He's finally able to get Shota into more festive clothes (I mean, who could say no to Eri asking for a family photo, come on)

Shinso and Shota have similar reactions to holiday activities and decoration, which is adorable

Shinso and Eri work together to get Sushi into a costume (approved and supervised by Shota)

Shota removes the costume at the first sign of discomfort

You bake with Eri, play board games with Shinso, sing carols with Hizashi, and watch terrible holiday movies with Shota

When Mirio and Midoriya stop by to pick up Eri and Shinso for some school holiday shenanigans, y'all take the chance to drink egg nog, burn old bones, and express gratitude for what you have and excitement for what comes next

Eri and Shinso tiptoe around the couch so they don't wake the three of you up from the accidental winter nap you fell into
