During the Onceler hype on Tumblr I had only read the Lorax once as a child and hadn't seen the movie so I kept confusing all the characters so when people talked about how much they wanted the oneclussy I just imagined the Lorax by mistake. Now that I know who the Lorax is I still occasionally remember the Lorax as the one people were thirsting over. Then I'm like "no, no, the Onceler is the twink"

Okay, I've been in the fandom since 2020, so not that long. I've heard about Ed Helms himself finding out about the fandom, and I gotta ask. How was it that faithful day, and how did the fandom react?

Oh yes I was there when it happened! It was a live interview broadcast on Funny or Die where you could send in questions and Ed Helms would scroll through them and answer whichever ones he wanted. The full video has been made private on youtube so it's lost now but I remember him answering stuff like his opinion on Norma x Onceler (he never considered it!) and also someone tried to ask him to sing How Bad Can I Be but he declined (cuz I don't think he would've been allowed to do that for this interview), oh and also a kind soul reminded him to "drink your agua" in the middle of the interview, so he listened and drank some water from his water bottle. Every single post on my dashboard that day was the live reactions to Ed Helms' interview, and most people were freaking out. Disbelief, and also lots of emotions, frustration, sadness, shame, and then a few hours later someone made a post pointing out that hey. It's okay. Ed Helms is a comedian and he knows how to act, so it was very likely that he wasn't personally bothered by the oncest questions and just wanted to answer in an entertaining way. And then I think we calmed down. But to this day a lot of people are still traumatized by it and feel secondhand embarrassment. As for me, I thought it was hilarious!! 😂 I even set that audio clip above as the only file on my blog's playlist because it cheers me up without fail every time I listen.

It also gave us a LOT of fandom memes!! "Go get psychiatric evaluation", "America is in CRISIS", "200 million dollars", "oncest oncest oncest oncest" it was all SO funny, it's been over 10 years and I swear we'll never forget these phrases!! So yeah, I look back on it fondly, thoughhhh I think I may be an odd one out judging by what I hear from my fellow oncelings ahhhh xD thank you Ed Helms for putting up with that interview 🙏

we're going full tumblr cringe for a second because I just have to say it. Paul is not onceler material

he's not! I was THERE for the onceler, I LIVED it and it was a once in a lifetime fandom phenomenon that cannot ever be replicated, and even if it could, of any character I've seen be incorrectly called onceler material or "the next onceler" Paul does not even come CLOSE to fitting the bill when it comes to how fans portray him

nobody ships Paul with his infected self (even then if we're going off canon, that wouldn't be a self ship, it would be shipping Paul with Pokey), and nobody ships different AU Pauls or the Paul clones together. it doesn't happen! jokes about it do, but I've never seen anyone genuinely do that and just because they technically could doesn't make him onceler material, and even if it was happening it'd still be a completely different phenomenon because it'd be happening for completely different reasons
