Hannah Waddingham Confronts Photographer Who Asked Her To “Show Leg”: “Don’t Be A Dick”
Tumblr media
Hannah Waddingham called out a photographer at the Olivier Awards who apparently asked her to “show leg” as she posed for pictures.
The Emmy-winning Ted Lasso star hosted the London theatre awards on Sunday night and before the gong-giving got underway she walked the steps of the Royal Albert Hall.
As she stopped for photos, Waddingham confronted a snapper after hearing a comment about her legs, according to a video posted by a fan account.
“Oh my God, you’d never say that to a man,” Waddingham said. “Don’t be a dick otherwise I’ll move off. Don’t say ‘show me leg.’ No.”
The actress then shook her head and walked off. She continued to exchange words with the photographer as she moved on, raising her finger.
Succession star Sarah Snook and singer-actress Nicole Scherzinger were among the big winners at the 2024 Olivier Awards on Sunday.
Snook picked up the Best Actress gong for her multi-character performance in the Sydney Theatre Company’s version of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Scherzinger landed Best Actress in a Musical for her turn as Norma Desmond in the recent revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway-bound Sunset Boulevard.
Opening the awards, Waddingham performed a number with singer and pianist Joe Stilgoe. Waddingham, who will be seen on the big screen this year in The Fall Guy and Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2, also hosted last year’s ceremony.

'As I posted a few weeks back I was extremely happy with our film nominations for the Dorians, aka the awards that my critics group GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Critics hand out every year -- we did good then and I am happy to report that we did good again with our winners. Much better than a lot of critics groups have! And I don't just say that because we handed three major prizes to my favorite movie of 2023, Andrew Haigh's All of Us Strangers... although I don't not say it because of that either. Strangers won both our "Film of the Year" award and our "LGBTQ Film of the Year" award, plus the award for "Best LGBTQ Screenplay" to Haigh, as well it damn should...
For its 15th Dorian Film Awards, GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics fully embraced All of Us Strangers, writer-director Andrew Haigh's fantastical and tear-inducing tale of two troubled souls falling for each other in lonely London. The 500-members strong GALECA, one of the largest entertainment journalists organizations in the world, named Strangers both Film of the Year and LGBTQ Film of the Year, and also awarded Haigh LGBTQ Screenplay of the Year.
“Twelve years ago, Andrew Haigh’s fresh and observant queer romance Weekend ruled our Dorians as well,” said GALECA President Walt Hickey. “So the fact that Strangers obviously touched many of our members’ hearts as well counts as sort of a sweet homecoming to our organization.”...
Film of the Year 🏆 All of Us Strangers (Searchlight)
LGBTQ Film of the Year 🏆 All of Us Strangers (Searchlight)
LGBTQ Screenplay of the Year (new) 🏆 Andrew Haigh, All of Us Strangers (Searchlight)...'

It’s the early hours of the morning by the time Glitch can finally convince his mothers that he and Reed are okay, so they can go home. He walks them to the train station, then hurries home. He’s already seen a few townies looking at him, but can’t tell if it’s out of curiosity due to the time of night or because they recognise him from the award show controversy.
As soon as he gets home, Glitch locks the door and heads straight for his children, Rhapsody and Dorian. He needs to cuddle them, to hold them close and remind himself what he’s trying to succeed for.
Glitch: “Oh Dori, did I wake you up?”
Dorian sniffles and starts wriggling in Glitch’s arms. Glitch pulls his son up against his chest, rocking him and humming soothingly. Soon, his son settles and starts softly sleeping against his shoulder. Glitch was so distracted by his thoughts that he didn’t realise that he’d scooped up his son who was already put down to sleep by his girlfriend, Una.
Carefully, Glitch places his son back into his crib and steps back to look at his beloved children. Tonight, Glitch was at an award show hoping to support his sibling, Bell, for their award nomination. He also wanted to promote his and Reed’s music, hoping to catch some attention from the press.
Instead, his sister, Jazz, caused a scene and leapt onto the stage when Bell lost the award, interrupting the winner’s speech. Glitch knows that all of his schmoozing and positive public image has gone down the drain from Jazz’s antics!
What will happen now? Will Glitch have to stay in hiding to protect his reputation?

Six Spooky Queer Novels
Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova
Tumblr media
Photo Source Alex is a bruja and the most powerful witch in her family. But she's hated magic ever since it made her father disappear into thin air. So while most girls celebrate their Quinceañera, Alex prepares for her Deathday―the most important day in a bruja's life and her only opportunity to rid herself of magic. But the curse she performs during the ceremony backfires, and her family vanishes, forcing Alex to absorb all of the magic from her family line. Left alone, Alex seeks help from Nova, a brujo with ambitions of his own. -- Amazon
The Gilda Stories by Jewelle L. Gómez
Tumblr media
Photo Source The winner of two Lambda Literary Awards (fiction and science fiction) The Gilda Stories is a very lesbian American odyssey. Escaping from slavery in the 1850s Gilda's longing for kinship and community grows over two hundred years. Her induction into a family of benevolent vampyres takes her on an adventurous and dangerous journey full of loud laughter and subtle terror. -- Goodreads
The Drowning Girl by Caitlín R. Kiernan
Tumblr media
Photo Source Caitlín R. Kiernan is a master of her craft of dark fantasy-sci-fi horror and The Drowning Girl is an excellent place to start with her books. India Morgan Phelps — aka Imp — begins her first person story by telling the reader that she is schizophrenic and that she’s aware of her own unreliability. This, of course, calls into question the entirety of the book that follows. But this is not a story that asks you to guess whether the supernatural elements are real or whether they are just a product of Imp’s mental health status. Instead, it’s an investigation of how the paranormal — Imp’s encounter with a mysterious figure — interacts with mental illness. This post-modern creepy, if not outright scary story, also features a lesbian relationship between a cis and a trans woman! -- Autostraddle
Ghost Wood Song by Erica Waters
Tumblr media
Photo Source Shady Grove inherited her father’s ability to call ghosts from the grave with his fiddle, but she also knows the fiddle’s tunes bring nothing but trouble and darkness. But when her brother is accused of murder, she can’t let the dead keep their secrets. In order to clear his name, she’s going to have to make those ghosts sing. -- Goodreads
Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand
Tumblr media
Photo Source Marion: the new girl. Awkward and plain, steady and dependable. Weighed down by tragedy and hungry for love she’s sure she’ll never find. Zoey: the pariah. Luckless and lonely, hurting but hiding it. Aching with grief and dreaming of vanished girls. Maybe she’s broken—or maybe everyone else is. Val: the queen bee. Gorgeous and privileged, ruthless and regal. Words like silk and eyes like knives, a heart made of secrets, and a mouth full of lies. Their stories come together on the island of Sawkill Rock, where gleaming horses graze in rolling pastures and cold waves crash against black cliffs. Where kids whisper the legend of an insidious monster at parties and around campfires. Where girls have been disappearing for decades, stolen away by a ravenous evil no one has dared to fight… until now. -- Goodreads
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
Tumblr media
Photo Source Written in his distinctively dazzling manner, Oscar Wilde’s story of a fashionable young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty is the author’s most popular work. The tale of Dorian Gray’s moral disintegration caused a scandal when it first appeared in 1890, but though Wilde was attacked for the novel’s corrupting influence, he responded that there is, in fact, “a terrible moral in Dorian Gray.” Just a few years later, the book and the aesthetic/moral dilemma it presented became issues in the trials occasioned by Wilde’s homosexual liaisons, which resulted in his imprisonment. Of Dorian Gray’s relationship to autobiography, Wilde noted in a letter, “Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry what the world thinks me: Dorian what I would like to be—in other ages, perhaps. -- Goodreads

REVIEW
Funeral Daze by Dorian Box
Danny Teakwell #2
Easily stands alone and a great story though I missed reading Psycho Tropics and the introduction to the series.
What I liked:
* Danny Teakwell: widow, grieving, surf shop owner, talented surfboard maker, good friend, helpful, kind, generous, there for those in need and Jessica is definitely in need
* Jessica Jewell: preteen, grew up in the funeral business, a bit quirky, strong, outspoken, big-hearted, good friend, stands out from the crowd, truthful, good salesperson, has a lot to deal with
* The trust that develops between Danny and Jessica as the story progresses
* The way Danny “sees” Jessica and communicates with her openly and honestly
* That I had fun reading it even though there were some heavy issues discussed
* The way Jessica and Danny helped one another
* The influence of Sari, the deceased wife of Danny, even after she is gone
* Bennie “Fink” Finkel: law school graduate, a wildcard, good friend, has quite a few issues but a major part of the story
* Erin Delonia: female surf winner who lives in California and comes by the surf shop to tell Danny she rode one of his boards to win a contest – potential love interest
* Grady Banyon, Shannon-the waitress, Detective Rodrigues, and other supporting characters
* That not all the bad guys were horrible and that not all the good guys were necessarily good
* All of it really except…
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about addiction and how it changes people
* Yago – a loose cannon and a merciless killer that enjoyed his job a bit too much
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to the NetGalley, the author, and Friction Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
BLURB
"[A] novel that takes both light and dark elements to present a fantastically engaging, emotionally resonant story in a deeply humorous and satirical fashion. Unmissable reading." — 2023 Readers' Favorite Silver Medal for Humor Fiction From the author of the multi-award-winning Emily Calby Series SUMMER 2000. When down-and-out surfer and former lottery winner Danny Teakwell was framed for a grisly murder, he got help from a family of wacky morticians that included seven-year-old embalming expert Jessica Jewell (Psycho-Tropics ). Five years later the tables are turned when Jessica shows up, alone and desperate, seeking shelter. Her parents suddenly sold their family funeral home and vanished. Danny’s not in a good place. Grieving the recent death of his wife, he’s let life crumble. He reluctantly agrees to take the girl in for one night, but the willful twelve-year-old convinces him to join her investigation to find her parents and get back their funeral home. The trail leads into a ghastly criminal enterprise of corpses, caskets, and killers. As the bond between the unlikely pair grows, it becomes unclear who’s saving who and which one is really running the show. Hilarious and heartwarming mystery and suspense with a walloping conclusion, Dorian Box brings his unique blend of darkness and light to life in this zany joyride through the Sunshine State. PRAISE AND ACCOLADES FOR FUNERAL DAZE "FUNERAL DAZE manages to be laugh-out-loud funny, heartwarmingly tender, and full of lively action and suspense, all at once – a thoroughly entertaining and engaging read." — IndieReader (5 Stars, IR Seal of Approval) “The story unfolds at a crisp and steady pace, with plenty of thought-provoking moments once 12-year-old Jessica enters the scene, offering Danny surprisingly mature reflections on tragedy and a knockout mystery to occupy his time. … Funeral Daze delivers an appealing spin on the mystery genre through rich characterization and an abundance of insight throughout.” — 2023 Publishers Weekly BookLife Prize Semifinalist in Mysteries/Thrillers “[A]n exceptional read. … Box balances some incredibly heavy themes, such as loss, grief, child displacement, and physical and emotional trauma with moments of genuine levity that come in the form of intelligent humor. The writing is more often brilliant than not …” — Jamie Michele for Readers’ Favorite (5-Star Seal) “A hilarious page-turner that effortlessly blends crime, humor and South Florida beach culture. … Award-winning author Dorian Box (Psycho Tropics, The Hiding Girl) has always employed brilliant doses of well-timed levity in crime fiction, but he pulls out all the stops for this laugh-out-loud caper. — BestThrillers “A perfect beach read, this zany mystery has the thrills, quirky characters, juicy plot twists, and gripping conclusion you're looking for!” — Reedsy Discovery “Time and again, Box has proven he can write a tense thriller that is funny, dark, and completely endearing. It’s the perfect combination of a smart storyline and characters that keep you reading well after bedtime. Fantastic!” — NetGalley “Funeral Daze is a macabre and hilarious novel that intersects the lives of several bizarre and oddly compelling characters. … Dorian Box masterfully directs the story into a series of unpredictable and uproarious events that are deliciously ironic, unexpectedly thought-provoking, and always edgy and dark.” — D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review
