Holy hell, I’ve finally sat down and finished the Skyward Flight novellas and I’ve just got to say... I love these slugs so much they are doing so much and they deserve all the caviar in the world no questions asked.

Thinking about Intergalactic politics and how even the name of the Superiority denotes the primary issue with it. Superiority, considering yourself better than others, better than outsiders. Just, ugh.
So, as Cuna keeps saying in Skyward flight, the Superiority is a bunch of diverse races living together in... relative harmony? I know I am not saying it as good as they did, but they have a point that it is a great aspect that they have. The problem is that it sort of ends there.
Everyone gets pissed off at the term lesser species, because why the heck wouldn't you despise being called lesser, being called inferior? This is my main issue with the Superiority as a government. Ideals that sound excellent to most, that of peace and living in harmony with one another, that have worked well when taken to the extreme with your people, you are suddenly introducing to all these alien races with different dispositions and degrees of inclination towards following it, and are telling them, you cannot join us, or be a part of our cool kids club, unless you do everything we like as perfectly as we do.
Okay, I'm coming back to this after far too long and don't remember where I was going with it, but I like this point and wanted to wrap it up by saying one more thing. The Humans from Detritus may be far from perfect in the intergalactic sphere, and are just stumbling along as they get introduced to it, but I love how they do indeed seem to be trying. They aren't trying to be superior. They aren't trying to press their ideals on anyone.
Oh, wait. That was the point I was going for, I remember now. The superiority pushes their ideals of peace and non-aggressiveness on everyone else. Which are ideals that are all well and good, but... they come from the diones (correct me if I'm wrong on any of this I'm operating off of memory) that evolved on a planet without any predators. Other species from planets with harsher conditions and whatnot obviously had to evolve differently to even survive. They claim to be inclusive and inviting to all species of intelligent life... but then they dictate what those species can and cannot do. I don't know if I'm adequately capturing my thoughts, but... this is just so frustrating.
Then compare it to the humans (back to my earlier point before I got distracted). They're just trying to survive. Yes, it is NICE to have interstellar communication and trade and travel with various species, but... that's thriving. Surviving comes first. And yes, maybe humans began wars back in the day. There are going to be wounds there that need healing, much like with what began as they established alliances in ReDawn and Evershore. But the superiority was in the wrong as well, deciding to absolutely destroy an entire race.
I... keep losing focus. Obviously there's a lot of things about all of this that is so complicated, but the humans are trying to navigate all of this for the first time, when they haven't even interacted with anyone outside of their own people in decades. Beyond the lifespan of even their oldest people. So they aren't perfect, not by any means. But when they are making their alliances, they are alliances. They are on equal terms with the Kitsen and the Ur'Dail. And they may be struggling but they are trying, from the right direction, unlike the superiority.
Doing it for the right reasons, not to have a monopoly on power. Approaching them on equal terms and taking their strengths and weaknesses where they're at instead of demanding that they meet their standards in order to join them. Just the contrast between Defiant and the superiority. How to do things wrong with a facade of being good or... how to at least try to make things right.

Starsight - Brandon Sanderson
This took me so long to read! A third of the month is already gone, and I'm nowhere near where I thought I would be. I've really got to pick up the pace, or I won't hit my monthly goal, let alone make it through my Sanderson reading list!
I really enjoyed this, though, I'm so glad I decided to start with the rest of the Cytoverse. But such an inconvenient ending! I finished it just as I had to start my shift, and all I wanted to do was open the next book and get cracking! I just know I'm going to be furious once I finish the next book and have to wait until next year for the fourth book.
In true Sanderson style, I did not see any of this coming. I was expecting the 'hyperdrive' would be using captive cytonics or something, I would never have guessed it was Doomslug! And I love that Jorgen can hear them, and found their little colony!
I can't believe how little we saw of Detritus and Skyward Flight. I sort of thought she'd be on Starsight for maybe a quarter of the book, and then be back home to fight, but I probably should have guessed seeing as it's the literal name of the book.
I did miss the camaraderie of Skyward Flight. Her new flight was nice and all, but it just wasn't the same. We barely even saw most of her original flightmates. And I missed seeing her relationship with Jorgen develop, and I loved his little interlude chapters, I really hope we get more of him in the next book.
I love that she managed to communicate with a delver, and that it wasn't even really an enemy in the end, it just didn't understand what was going on. I'm really interested to see where this goes, if they're going to continue to be a force that needs fighting, or if it's just going to be a political battle with the superiority factions.
Also, I proudly noticed immediately that Cuna smiled even though their species doesn't, but stupidly thought it was an expression of aggression, rather than them trying to put Spensa at ease.
And I still don't actually know if the "M" in M-Bot stands for "Mushroom". I hope he gets better soon, and I'm so curious to find out what the beef is with AIs. Oh my god, if he turns out to be a bad guy, I'm going to flip.

Thank you (and sorry) for reading that so I do not have to. Now I can go about my days in peace able to ignore this novella's existence.
LMAO omg the meme... you are welcome 😔✌ only things u need know plot-wise are
Jorgen is starting to get his cytonic powers to work (💞💞😊😊☺😁😁😘😇😇)
There r multiple types of cytonic slugs yellow = teleportation, red = let out explosions of force, purple = allow FTL communication (if this all sounds a little silly it's bc it is but i am willing to forgive it) but they havent figured out how to get them to work without jorgen directly sending cytonic messages to them
Skyward flight rescued Cuna from attack and is now providing refuge to them & some of their staff(?) on detritus
Detritus got control of the defense platforms that cover & protect the planet to defend against Superiority attacks but still no control of those platform guns/tech
OH and jorgen briefly saw spensa in the Nowhere that was wild also poor boy 💔
If you notice that despite this being an fm novella there is no crucial information involving fm. well.

“When a planet-destroying Delver suddenly appears in the sky of Detritus and vanishes just as suddenly, FM knows that the last free human society got lucky. Her Skyward Flight companion, Spensa, figured out how to draw this Delver away, but it won’t be so easy next time.
The forces of the Galactic Superiority will be back—and if the Defiant Defense Force can’t figure out a way to escape the planet, humanity’s destruction is only a matter of time. Spensa’s mission to infiltrate the Superiority unveiled the secret to their hyperdrives—a cytonic slug species called the Taynix. Now FM’s flightleader, Jorgen, has found a large group of Taynix hiding in the caverns far below Detritus’s surface.
FM and Jorgen must work together with the engineer Rig to awaken the mysterious alien Alanik and unlock the powers of the Taynix, or humanity will be trapped. With Spensa’s friend Minister Cuna of the Superiority stranded at the outpost of Sunreach, they need to figure out how to rescue them—or the Superiority government will be in the sole clutches of those who want to wipe out Detritus once and for all.”
This takes place between Starsight and Cytonic. It definitely feels a bit different than Brandon Sanderson’s writing style, but that could be because of it being him and another author. I still enjoyed this too and liked that they took the information the team learned in Starsight and was trying to figure things out with it in Sunreach. I loved all the slugs and their personalities and what they could do. It was very interesting and definitely important for Cytonic and Defiant.

Title: Sunreach
Author: Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patternson
Summary: When a planet-destroying Delver suddenly appears in the sky of Detritus and vanishes just as suddenly, FM knows that the last free human society got lucky. Review:
Vile ships of vileness? Sounds like someone is related to Breeze with his evil force of evil.
“Jorgen dropped the slug and jumped back as ribbons of red opened up on his forearms and cheeks and across his nose.”—Page 54
Scars on his forearms? PLOT TWIST: JORGEN IS THE LORD OF SCARS! JORGEN HAS BEEN THAIDAKAR THIS ENTIRE TIME!!! Also stop the Jorgen abuse.
I really want to know what songs FM is listening to.
“I feel I should tell you that I now have a slug on each shoulder and three on my lap, all seeming vaguely uncomfortable that I’m touching them. I blame you, FM.”—Page 126
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. God I can’t believe we have to wait until December for the Jorgen novella. Crimes!
“‘Yes, actually,’ I said. ‘We designed an experiment.’
‘Is that what they’re calling it now.’
‘Shut your mouth,’”—Page 148
Jorgen is best boy fight me.
WE’VE MADE CONTACT WITH CUNA!!!
If you told me this novella ended with a giant tentacle star monster, I wouldn’t have believed you and yet here we are.
