Sorry about the short hiatus.
We are now starting to improve from being sick with COVID enough that I have been learning some Java. I have been programming with Python for 10+ years now and I feel it's time to branch out and have chosen Java as my first SERIOUS programming language outside of Python. I have programmed in Go, some Dart, Ruby, JavaScript and several other languages but never really felt like they were something I could dedicate myself to learning like I have with Python. However, I have discovered a love for Java as the Java language is rich and also object-oriented more in the way that Python is (that's how I feel). I realize the syntax is a lot different, and I have had some learning barriers because of the complexity of the language, but overall I am feeling confident I have what it takes to become a great Java developer too.
My top tips for learning a new language for people coming from a language like Python are: Take notes: Notes are incredibly helpful when trying to figure out what you need for certain situations. I recently had some issues with the scanner object (taking input for Java) in which I had to look up what I needed from my notes. I now have built half of my first Java program!
Practice, practice, practice: Even if you understand a concept, if you are like me, you need to repeat it several times to cement it in your brain and be able to remember it the next day. There are many places to practice what you've learned but jumping into projects on Youtube, doing coding challenges, or trying to build your own solution to whatever you want to using documentation will help you a lot!
Join a subreddit or at least engage in a community: The most helpful thing outside of the other tips that I do when learning or practicing any language is to join a subreddit and search for programming buddies or people to make friends with who have similar interests. It's fun to code with other people and gives you experience working on a team as you would at a job! /ProgrammingBuddies subreddit is excellent for this!
Good luck everyone in your programming journey, no matter what part of it you are on! Thanks for following me :D

Canadaian PM Trudeau tests positive for COVID19
Tumblr media
Washington (The Times Groupe)- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he tested positive for COVID19, but felt fine since he was vaccinated.
Trudeau wrote on Twitter, “I tested positive for COVID19. I’ll be following public health guidelines and isolating.” He added, “I feel fine, but I got my shots.”
“So, if you haven’t, get vaccinated – and if you can, get boosted. Let’s protect our healthcare system, each other, and ourselves,” he added.
He tested positive for COVID19 for the last time in January.

Covid update, day two-three
Tw: puking, fever, food, eating, Covid, general sickness, brief mention of death, medicine, emotional abuse (?), long, definitely tmi, bathroom talk, cramps, if you have a trigger it is probably in here and I wouldn’t recommend reading this.
I wanted to get this all out so I didn’t have to have it all in my head anymore. Feel free to read. I posted this because I haven’t seen many people of my age having symptoms like I have. I didn’t think Covid would effect me as much as it has because everyone said if you’re young and vaccinated you should be fine. I figured if I haven’t seen anyone talking about it maybe others haven’t too, so I’d like to share my story even if it isn’t finished yet.
Around 9pm I texted my mom asking if she could make me some coffee if she wasn’t already asleep. She was asleep so, against my better judgement I wandered out in to the kitchen to get myself a snack instead because I wanted something sweet and I didn’t want to touch the coffee maker (most people in the house touch it daily so I didn’t want to risk it). My house is very open so although I had to cross through the living room and the dining room to get to the kitchen, I didn’t have to touch anything so I didn’t feel like I would get anyone else sick. Upon walking into the kitchen I saw a box of those really nice muffins on top of the microwave. Four chocolate, three banana nut, five blueberry each in their own individual wrapping. I had originally wanted to get fruit snacks but they were in the cabinet and it felt selfish to be touching common areas just because I wanted a snack. The ONLY snacks were the box muffins, two bunches of unripe bananas hanging on the fruit basket and three grapefruit sitting in the window seal.
Now something to know about me is that most foods hurt my stomach. I’m not sure why but citrus fruits especially hurt my stomach and make my mouth bleed so I decided against the grapefruit. I knew they were my step father’s anyway so I didn’t want to take food that wasn’t mine.
I stood over the muffins for probably the better part of thirty minutes trying to decide which muffin I would take back to my room. Because of my nature I knew I wouldn’t be able to decide the regular way. I instead chose the classic, ennie, meanie, minnie, moe. For those of you that don’t know that game because I know some cultures outside of where I’m from play a different version or don’t play at all, here is how the game goes.
To start the game you have to decide what you’re choosing from and preferably get them all within pointing distance. As you sing the song, each word you point to a different option, usually in a clockwise motion. When the song is finished, whatever you are pointing at on the last word gets eliminated and you repeat until there is only one option left and that is the one you go with. The song goes like this:
Ennie, meanie, minnie, moe, catch a tiger by his toe. If he hollers let him go, ennie, meanie, minnie, moe.
Now as I’m writing this I remember this song has a very bad history so I’ll probably go back to rolling a dice when I can touch things in common space again. Also I imagine I spelled most of the words wrong, I will fix it later for now it is just spelled phonetically.
I play this game a little differently than most however. I use how I felt about each option when it got eliminated to decide which one I really wanted. Turns out I wanted the chocolate one. So I grab the chocolate one, careful not to touch anything except the plastic wrapping that concealed it and walked back to my room. Once I entered my room I set the muffin down, put hand sanitizer on, and sat down at my desk to enjoy my meal.
Once I finished eating I decided I was ready for bed and laid down. I imagine going to sleep right after eating was my first mistake- not including eating the muffin.
I tossed and turned in my sleep as I tend to do. I was never a good sleeper and after my father passed away it only got worse. I woke a couple times through the night but immediately went back to bed. Until 3am. Now something to know about me is that I am super paranoid and afraid to sleep, but for some reason when I’m sick I just lose that quality. So I woke up at three feeling horrible. I immediately checked my temperature. 100.4 (Fahrenheit), not bad at all considering the first day I was at 102 for a while. I took some medicine, drank some water, and right after entered a horrible coughing fit.
Quick side note- because of an eye condition I have (didn’t know this was what was causing it at the time) I have been very prone to nausea since I was born. Everytime I would get into a car until I was twelve I would puke and puke until there was nothing left in my stomach. For the last few years of that I couldn’t eat anything a few hours before getting into a car. I would only drink water so that way when I puked it wouldn’t feel so bad. I would get yelled at and threatened each time. Got into a car, and after I’d puked in it. We carried plastic bags where ever we went so I wouldn’t puke on other people in the car. At 12 I was allowed to sit in the front seat, and for some reason I stopped puking. I’m not sure if that’s causation or correlation but whatever it was it worked. Since then I have not been able to puke what so ever. If I was sick, or choking on something, I just couldn’t puke, I imagine because of how often I puked in my childhood and my fear of getting yelled at for it.
During the coughing fit I must have woken my mom up because she came into my room asking if I had taken medicine. I told her I had. She asked me if I still wanted coffee. I said sure because the warmth had been helping my throat for the past few days.
A few minutes later my mother came back with a warm water and the coffee. We talked for a bit about what was hurting and why I was up and she gave me some more medicine she thought would help. After that she left me to go back to sleep and I sat on my bed and drank my coffee.
I realized that I was so cold I had goosebumps and was shaking. Shaking is no good when you’ve got steaming hot coffee in your hands so I wrapped my weighted blanket around my shoulders and my fluffy blanket around my lap, tucking it under my knees so I would keep all the heat in.
I drank my coffee for about thirty minutes and then set it on the ground next to my bed. I felt like I was going to start coughing again so grabbed two tissues from my box and held them over my mouth while I coughed.
I coughed once
I coughed twice
I coughed three times and then I puked water and coffee into my hand and my fluffy blanket.
Glad I hadn’t ate in a few hours I told my self.
As a typical kid (17) I texted my mom saying I’d thrown up on myself, and my blanket. After throwing my blanket on the ground I realized I’d puked on my sheets too.
Just my luck.
I stood up off my bed and my hips felt like they were being ripped apart. My mom had told me that was something she and my step dad experienced when they had Covid so I wasn’t too surprised but it still felt horrible.
I slowly took all five of my pillows and put them by the foot of the bed, along with my weighted blanket. I put my sheets in the pile with my fluffy blanket as my mom opened my door. She asked me where I had puked and I just handed her the blanket and sheet. She had gloves on. When she came back I was wiping the mess from the tissue I’d thrown on the ground when I puked. I asked for a towel and she brought me one. I quickly cleaned up the mess and gave her the towel back. She walked away and I heard the low rumble of the washer starting.
She asked me if I needed new sheets since my bed was bare and I told her I had sheets, granted not fitted ones but it would work. My mom let me know that there was some old sheets that used to belong to my little brother I could use instead and brought them to me. She said goodnight and left me in my room to remake my bed.
I slowly put it all back together. I put the sheets on the bed, one hand holding my right hip as I leaned over the bed. I threw the pillows back on and somehow lugged the weighted blanket back on to my bed. I sat down and thought for a bit, drinking my water when I could.
Then the cramps hit me.
I’ve always had horrible cramps, currently I’m on birth control to even out my hormones but it also takes away my period and leaves me with horrible cramps. It’s honestly worth the trade off but that doesn’t make the cramps hurt any less.
As per my cramps I rushed to the bathroom and took some meds. Didn’t quite work I still ended up shitting my brains out. And if that wasn’t enough I then suddenly had the all to familiar urge to empty the rest of the contents in my stomach. I flushed the toilet and it went just quick enough for it to be empty by the time I was puking again. My nose was dripping snot, my eyes were watering, and I just felt absolutely pitiful. There was no one to comfort me. I hadn’t seen my family besides my mom since Monday (it was no Thursday) and my little brother is my biggest source of comfort.
I grabbed my towel from the rack behind me. It was a long semi fluffy blue towel that only I used. I had brought it with me when we moved and before I owned a blanket I would sleep with it. It was a large source of comfort for me so I wrapped it around me. I felt myself beginning to cry and I started panicking, which only made me want to cry more. I’m asthmatic so even regularly crying makes it hard for me to breathe, I’ve been terrified for days what will happen to my throat if I started crying now. I took a breath in, and as I breathed out I whispered “you’re okay.” Another breath in, another breathe out, “you’re okay.” Each breath I let out I reminded myself that I was okay. I might feel bad now but I am going to make it through this. I have horrible health related anxiety so it took me a while but after thirty minutes or so I started to believe the words I was telling myself.
Then I puked again.
This time the puking wasn’t as bad as I had already gotten rid of most everything except for all the water I had been drinking. That didn’t stop tears immediately falling from my eyes as I leaned against the bathtub once more. I again wrapped myself in the towel like a hug and repeated the phrase until I believed it. Eventually I must’ve fallen asleep because I woke up maybe ten or twenty minutes later.
I thought to myself, “why haven’t I seen anyone my age talking about having Covid symptoms like the ones I’m experiencing myself? Am I clicking the wrong content? Am I scrolling past it as it appears on my screen? Is no one else experiencing this?” Then, per usual, I started crying again and had to calm myself down.
Once I’d calmed down I figured, if I’ve not seen anyone else my age post things about their experience going through Covid like I have, maybe there are others like me who need a reminder that they’re going to be okay. That it’s scary but I’m not alone. That we aren’t alone. We are in a global pandemic. As of yesterday a google search quickly shows there has been 519 million cases of Coronavirus (519,000,000) worldwide. Plenty of us are sick right now. We are not alone. I am not alone.
To anyone else who is currently going through Covid, to anyone who has gone through Covid in the past, to anyone who has lost someone from Covid, or fears they soon will, feel free to add your thoughts. I hold on to the hope, however naive it may be, that we will all get better soon.

/// Hello dear friends,
I wanted to provide a bit of an update on my lack of activity because it has not exactly been intentional. December was an absolute crazy month for me, I had an expensive car repair, immediately followed by my car getting absolutely destroyed in an accident and then to top it off when getting checked out for fractures from the accident I caught Covid19 for the first time. This obviously made the holidays a rough time which to be frank, we didn't celebrate much of, followed by my birthday which also was barely celebrated in January. I did have to purchase a new vehicle which has had its own string of challenges as I overcome my PTSD of being crashed into by a driver going 40MPH.
Now that basically explains what I've been up to since December to Janurary, as for February I have been doing some long past due spring cleaning, which includes going through my garage which is a huge project. I anticipate I'll be done before mid march, but wanted to let you know that I will do my best to make time to write soon and I miss it, and I miss my RP partners. Tagging a few people I have threads with to let them know I haven't forgotten them.
@byondtheveil @spidermanxnoir @brokenandlonelysouls @doctor-brucebanner @antvnger
There are probably a few more but if you want to remind me feel free to message me directly. Rocket may bite, but I do not. ///

Top Challenges Faced by Nonprofits Due to Lack of Data Strategy
To accomplish social good, it is essential to understand the nature of the target audience and how each campaign might affect them. The combined efforts of an NGO or Nonprofit get enhanced tenfold by just recognising the patterns of social needs and their consequent reactions. Data analysis and data strategy for nonprofits are still not very prevalent despite being such a significant aspect.
A 2019 report stated that more than 90 percent of nonprofits collect data, but only 5% put it to use to increase maximum output and raise the stakes. If done correctly and with appropriate procedures, an effective data management for nonprofits can transform how a certain NGO works and how it is perceived among its beneficiaries. Read ahead to find out about some of the most common nonprofit challenges today and how nonprofits can use data to steer clear of them.
Challenges faced by Nonprofits Post Pandemic
Covid 19 has changed how NGOs and Nonprofits function and shaken their interactions and relationships with donors and beneficiaries. Organizations have finally realised the importance of data for nonprofits and that they need an extensive virtual data strategy in order to increase their reach.
Data analysis comes into play almost everywhere, from sending emails and hosting charity events to raising funds digitally and connecting with donors. But how nonprofits can use data and what data should nonprofits collect? Here’s everything you need to know regarding the same.
Fundraising
With the world freshly recovering from the aftermath of Covid19, the role of Nonprofits is seen now more than ever. People are constantly falling short of making ends meet and rely heavily on the donations made by Nonprofits. Nonprofits, in turn, rely on charitable and government donations to provide for their campaigns.
Almost 58% of these organisations recorded a decrease in revenue in 2020, but the pandemic paved the way for more exclusive government funding. What’s more? 44% of NGO leaders say they sought help from the government in those desperate times and were not disappointed. Social distancing has restricted in-person interaction to a minimum, affecting the fundraising capacity of these NGOs and increasing nonprofit challenges today.
Leveraging technology and nonprofit data management through implementing data strategy for nonprofits can aid in bringing this burden down. Using data points to identify potential donors and finding consecutive loopholes in the pre-existing mechanism is the way forward.
Constant Technological Changes
More and more Nonprofits are adopting a digital outlook toward expanding their services and enhancing nonprofit data management. Cloud technology and automation can drastically ramp up the impact of the schemes and programs offered by these organisations.
Some of the most common nonprofit challenges today identified by NGO leaders are –
Lack of visibility and transparency
Delay in overall working due to disjoint systems and departments
A weak link between the financial and development strategies of the organisation
Lack of efficiency
Data collection and automation are the two pillars of a more refined working process. Keeping data points regularly updated makes financial undertaking very easy and gives way to more nonprofit data management efficiency altogether. It is easier to build audits for an adverse situation, for example – Covid 19.
Lack of Volunteers
97 percent of nonprofit organisations have an annual budget of less than $5 million, so the most typical nonprofit entity is largely community-based. In fact, more than 80 percent of the revenue garnered by this sector is through private fees, charitable donations, and government grants and contracts.
Amidst all this, a very significant and real-time issue that usually pops up is the need for more volunteers. And because nonprofits are entirely based on the goodwill of people, there are a few instances where there’s a shortage of volunteers. Implementing specific data collection strategies can be of huge assistance here. By implementing effective data management for nonprofits, organizations can figure out some of the non-monetary incentives given to people to attract them to volunteer.
Final Verdict
NGOs and nonprofit organisations are gradually moving towards a more organised way of working. Keeping updated records, identifying new trends with the help of these data points and also using them to formulate better strategies in the future, a gamut of these marks a seamless social effort. 👉 Keep learning with us, visit us at https://humanata.ca
