Coaster Maynia 2024 Day 1 - TOP THRILL 2

“One of the most common after effects of the anomalies, was many seemingly ordinary humans acquiring inhuman amounts of speed. Rita Ferraro was one of them of course, but found her new ability a mix of a blessing and a curse, thus deciding to join a support group for people like her. It was in this group, she met people like Enzo, a full of himself speedster who she briefly was in a relationship with, only for that to end very soured. Rita however met many others with her ability who were kind and supportive. Topher Thomson was one of them, in the support group since 2003. They were friendly, upbeat and positive, and always trying to uplift and support others who were struggling. Topher themselves was a bit clumsy much like Rita, tending to fall backwards during high speed runs and stumbling. But they never gave up, and Rita admired that. For many years Topher was a visible figure in the support group, helping others come to terms with their new abilities, making sure people were taking care of themselves and drinking and eating enough, tending to injuries of those still clumsy and running into things, and much more. But recently, they vanished for a period of time, worrying a lot in the community. Rita got word something had happened to her friend, and was desperate to run off as fast as she could to find them. But not long later, Topher returned, seeming brighter than ever, with a new sense of style and more control over their powers than before…”

Happy Coaster Maynia Season! Im so so so excited this year, I’ve gotten so much prep done ahead of time, as I want to get the lists done in time! I have a lot coming up at the end of the month anyways so I needed to be ready for it all! But yes, it’s been so fun working on the prompts this year, I’ve been doing these template backgrounds for each day, and plan to write up little blurbs to further develop each character! Also in terms of the best of list, Im prioritizing the main, but do plan to go back to the second one once the first list is done! As I plan to make the art for the best of list a bit more detailed and with backgrounds! Stay tuned for those pieces…..

Full image of my Smiler OC [+ a headshot.] I decided to work on a new style for it and see where it would take me. Not far, it seems. But. I did choose the one i struggle most with colouring cause of their dark skin so idk maybe i should stick with it.

So here’s Day 1-5 of CoasterMaynia 2023. Btw the signatures say 2023 as these sketches for these were done last year. I’m finishing what I started.

It’s that time again! Looking for suggestions for this year’s list. Leave a comment with which coasters you would like to see included in this year’s personification challenge!

Please list the name of the park with your coaster suggestion so I can be sure I’m naming the right one!

Other coasters from parks on last year’s list and defunct coasters are up for consideration.

Coasters on previous lists will not be considered (see the end of this post for those lists!), but do feel free to follow previous list prompts when you draw if you prefer. Since next year will be year 5, I may start repeats then!

Coasters based off of specific IP characters will not be considered this year (examples: Incredible Hulk, Batman: the Ride, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train). BUT! Coasters that are based on a general IP property will be (examples: Tron Light Cycle Power Run*, Velocicoaster). Coasters with original mascot characters will be considered, but participants are encouraged to create their own designs. So, yes, Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger is up for consideration!

Coasters that are announced but not yet open will also be considered if they have, at the very least, a name and logo. A color scheme or train reveal is also preferred.

Coastermaynia 2023 Day 31- Your Choice! (High Speed Thrill Coaster at Knoebels). @coastermaynia

The second Coastermaynia submission I have this year— today’s prompt is a “free space” in which you can chose any coaster you want. I chose High Speed Thrill Coaster, Knoebels’ original kiddy coaster (and the very first coaster they installed— all the way back in 1955!) “HSTC” sees himself as the resident “cool dude”…or at least a teenager’s approximation of “cool” (as defined back in the mid 50s). Although presenting himself as a “rebel without a cause”, HSTC is still a kid at heart. Though he mellowed out towards the end of his coaster’s operational life, his familial bond with Phoenix never faltered— Phoe was always proud of his “son”.

(No new outfit bcs I couldn’t think of anything in time lol. But I’m happy to have drawn this guy again! It’s been too long…)

Coaster Maynia 2024 Day 19 - LAFF TRAKK

“Laura Trafford knew she had one purpose in life, and that was to make other people laugh. She found herself in her youth at school being the class clown type, pulling harmless but annoying pranks, telling the most goofy of puns, and preforming magic tricks with a goofy twist. One day, she awoke to discover her magic was no longer just illusions and tricks of the eye, but real actual genuine magic. An affect of the anomalies perhaps, Laura had gained some sort of chaotic power. Many who would have gotten that power may have ended up using them for evil, or some sort of selfish gain, ah hem hem Mr. S ahem. But Laura had no need to control the masses with illusions or hypnosis, she only wanted to preform, and set up a traveling performance she referred to as “The Laff Trakk” where she traveled across the globe and put on fantastical visual performances filled with joy and laughter. Nothing like, Spencer Spud, who well, before learning his lesson may have used his similar abilities to mind control the masses for a little bit…”

If you remember this design…you legit get the veterans discount! Way back when I designed this character, when Mr. S had probably only been around for a few months! I think at the time I considered them related, but now I’m thinking their “relation” is no longer family and more ties come from them having similar powers they acquire due to the anomalies, involving illusion, Laura herself doesn’t have the same level hypnosis/mind control abilities like Spencer does, and more just creates illusions or makes people think they can see illusions! Even if she did, she knows her jokes are funny and that she doesn’t need to mind control people to laugh at them XP

For days 12 & 20 of @coastermaynia, Kostya (Novgorod) and Matthias (Wicker Man). I went all out with this one, just had to get Big Drawing energy out of my system. Kostya is a powerful mage with a curse that transforms him into a violent wolf and he was also separately cursed with immortality after helping to destroy the Wizard Council. Matthias ran away from home so that he could be safe and live a normal life but instead found out that hes kind of a reborn god with very powerful magic.

DAY 2 - COASTER MAYNIA (KRAKE)

Well. I clearly ran out of time. This is an OC I don't have yet, design is due to change but it was still fun to think up. From this day forth, expect either missed days or sketches on waste paper. I am a student and exams start in /checks smudged writing on wrist/ 8 days???? Oh well I'm sure I'll be fine (has barely revised )

Anywhoo! This was lots of fun. In all the 30 minutes it took. I swear it is still 2nd of May over here, but I've had school and I've been out so very little time. Have a nive night
