Dozens of camels carried our equipment back to Ilik across the bed of the Shaksgam River. Muhammed Tursum often separated from the group seeking a safe crossing through the torrential melt water. On assignment @natgeo and as a team member of the expedition led by @ralfdujmovits, on August 23rd 2011 Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, @maxut_zhumayev, and #vassilypivtsov reached the top and completed the ascent of all 8000 meter mountains without oxygen- together with #darekzaluski Docenas de camellos acarrearon nuestras provisiones de regreso a Ilik a lo largo del Rio Shaksgam. As we carried our loads into K2’s North Side, we found garbage left by previous expeditions…. LOTS of it. Tent poles, gas and propane canisters, batteries, clothes, aluminum and plastic food wrap and containers. Frustrated when turning back from our summit push, I decided to take full advantage of the time while waiting for my teammates return. With the support of @natgeo -@rebeccaexplore and @sadiequarrier who made it possible- we hired 5 camel drivers and two donkeys -each of us carrying 90 pounds and 250 pounds respectively- helping each other during two days until removing all the garbage we found. From Base Camp a total 1800 pounds were taken on camels to the village of Ilik and by truck to Kashgar, where it was properly disposed of and recycled. K2 looked clean and pristine again.... as we wished to see it when we arrived. A medida que equipabamos la via de ascenso sobre la cara Norte del K2, encontramos basura abandonada por otras expediciones, MUCHISIMA. Parantes, garrafas y contenedores de combustible, baterias, latas y envoltorios plasticos, ropa y tiendas. Frustrado al decidir retroceder durante el acecho a la cumbre, decidi aprovechar la espera de mis compañeros que descendian desde la cima. Con el apoyo de @natgeo -y la ayuda de @rebeccaexplore y @sadiequarrier quienes lo hicieron posible- contratamos cinco arrieros y dos mulas durante dos dias cargando cada uno 40 kgs y 110 kgs -respectivamente- ayudandonos mutuamente hasta remover toda la basura que encontramos. Desde el Campo Base trasladamos 850 kgs en camellos hasta la villa de Ilik y en camiones hasta la ciudad de Kashgar, donde todo fue reciclado y deshechado correctamente.
