[Beginning] [Previous] [Next]
Aubrie sat in class, her mind wondering, unable to focus on whatever it was the teacher was teaching. Mike had left earlier that morning, assuring her that she was safe and going over the after school plan: she was to ride back to Hiro’s house with him but in a different vehicle to make sure they couldn’t be followed. It seemed a little too much, switching cars every day before and after school, but it was Liam who had insisted on doing so. He was probably right; who knows the lengths Loretta and Jerry would go to get to her?
Mrs. Jones: Miss Burke? Miss Burke…? Could you please answer the question on page 47?
The teacher’s voice snapped Aubrie out of her wondering thoughts and back to reality. Of course she couldn’t answer the question, but thought of being humiliated in front of everyone had her flipping through her textbook, her eyes focusing on the page numbers until she reached the page she needed to reach.
Aubrie, nervous: The answer is, uh...it’s...um, uh...
Hiro: The answer is 1.9 g/ml.
Mrs. Jones: Uh, thank you, Mr. Yamazaki. Would you please come up and show the class how you reached that answer?
As Hiro got up, he quickly turned to Aubrie and winked, letting her know he was covering for her. She let out the breath of air she had been holding and tried her best to untense her shoulders. She wasn’t humiliated; Hiro had came to the rescue.
Still, Aubrie couldn’t help but think to herself, will there ever come a time where I don’t need rescued?

I’ve finally read Far Cry: Les Larmes d’Esperanza!
Tumblr media
It’s a French graphic novel set in the Far Cry 6 universe. The story follows Juan Cortez who travels to the fictional country of Santa Costa, where three factions are fighting for power and a new mining resource called “Tantale” has recently been discovered, to offer his services as a mercenary… and guerrilla expert.
The book takes place before the game and is officially described as a prequel, but it can totally be read as a standalone. Most of the characters never appear in Far Cry 6, and even though what happens in Santa Costa is reminiscent of the situation in Yara, the story is self-contained and doesn’t affect the game.
Far Cry: Les Larmes d’Esperanza (“the tears of Esperanza”) is dispensable... but enjoyable, especially if you’re a Far Cry 6 and/or Juan Cortez fan! I won’t spoil the plot twists but I still want to talk a bit about continuity and the other Far Cry characters who appear in the book. Minor spoilers below…
In my opinion, Juan’s characterization doesn’t contradict who he is in Far Cry 6. The book talks about his addiction problems while showing how effective and talented at his “job” he can be, and expands a little on his backstory. For example, his childhood is very briefly mentioned and it’s “revealed” where he got the inspiration for the Supremo backpacks (or their names, at least): comic books.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I initially assumed the events of the book were set several years before the game because I thought Juan looked younger, but his adventures in Santa Costa happened shortly before he started working with Libertad. Antón is barely mentioned but already in power and, according to Juan, they are approximately the same age.
Tumblr media
In Far Cry 6, a letter from Willis Huntley revealed that he and Juan had worked together in the past. In Les Larmes d’Esperanza, they do it again. Here is Willis (on the right) with a formally dressed Juan:
Tumblr media
Longinus also makes an appearance. In the game, he was acquainted with Sean McKay. In the book, he has apparently known Juan for a long time and frequently supplies him with equipment.
Tumblr media
For some reason, Hurk is here too and works for Juan at one point. There was no known connection between the two characters in Far Cry 6, so this really looks like fan service to me… Still, it’s always fun to see Hurk and it’s not impossible that he and Juan know each other, after all.
Tumblr media
Juan also sees Vaas and Pagan in a fever dream… for no particular reason.
Tumblr media
That said, the book feels more like a derivative work than an integral part of Far Cry 6, so those “fan service moments” didn’t bother me as much as they usually do.
Finally, after Juan’s mission in Santa Costa is over, Clara approaches him, which “explains” how and why he started working with her.
Tumblr media
However, Guapo sadly never makes an appearance…

Meet Cute: Some People Are Destined to Meet (Anthology)
Tumblr media
Read time: 10 Day Rating: 4/5
Contains stories by Katie Cotuguo, Nina LaCour, Ibi Zoboi, Katherine McGee, Sara Shepard, Meredith Russo, Dhonielle Clayton, Emery Lord, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Jocelyn Davies, Kass Morgan, Julie Murphy, Huntley Fitzpatrick and Nicola Yoon
Overall Thoughts So I will start by saying I enjoyed this collection. There is a bit of something for everyone the couples are M/M, M/F and F/F, one of the main characters is trans. There are different time settings, different writing styles and the meet-cutes appear at different points in the stories. IOn the writing styles I think it is important to know that they run the gambit of perspectives (1st, 2nd and 3rd). The stories are charmingly brief (20-25 page each) making it a great palette cleanser or pick up put down book. Now here's the but. Meet Cute really needed an introduction. Either whoever at Alloy collated it or whoever bought the authors together. Due to the diversity within the stories, I was wondering what the brief was. Even just a definition of a meet-cute would have been better than nothing. One other issue I had was that all the meet-cutes were implicitly or explicitly coded as romantic. I would have really liked one that was just a friendship or someone to tackle an ace protagonist. Standout stories: Click, Oomph, Say Everything.
Siege Etiquette by Katie Cotuguo This is a Queen Bee (Hailey) and Farm Boy (Wolf) hiding kinda from the cops in a bathroom. They have shared pasts, misunderstandings abound and there is a definite attraction. It's written in 1st person for only one person (Hailey's) something I don't read a lot but it works. It's an interesting premise well-executed in less than twenty pages. I can see where it could go if it was longer but it works really well at this length.
Print Shop by Nina LaCour It's Evie's first day at a new job, it's not what she expected but she is trying to make the best of it. One of the jobs given to her is setting up social media for the print shop. Lauren is a disgruntled customer. Evie identifies as queer and she has one of the most adorable coming out stories, it was essentially an accident. Nina LaCour has an engaging style. Her story is a meeting of worlds, a meeting of times. It's the perfect length and frames itself well.
Hourglass by Ibi Zoboi Hourglass focuses on Cherish, an African American girl living in a town where there are only 4 other African American families. It is set at the end of her senior year, right before prom. Hourglass is less about the meet-cute and more about female friendship and the end of an era. That is not to say the meet-cute isn't sweet, it is and it challenges some norms and expectations. I was sort of disappointed with Hourglass. I like Cherish. I wanted to know more, I wanted to see what choices she made. Or at a bare minimum, I want to see her rock that dress.
Click by Katherine McGee Click is fantastic. Unlike some of the other stories, it feels entirely self-contained and uses an alternating perspective. The main characters are the hurting and technologically inclined Alexa and the creative Raden, those alignments alone deserve applause. I feel like there is some inspiration taken from not only real-world dating apps but Scythe. It just made me happy. It's a hopeful story with endearing characters.
The Intern by Sara Shepard The main characters are slightly eccentric rock star Phineas and Clara the daughter of a celebrity and not what her father expects. Clara is involuntarily interning at her father's record label for the summer. Phineas and Clara meet as part of her role at V. It's a simple story about how two young people spend a day finding out each other in New York. Honestly, I got The Sun Is Also A Star vibes. It's not bad, it just feels a bit unoriginal and there aren't enough details given for me to really enjoy it.
Somewhere That's Green by Meredith Russo Somewhere That's Green is an opposite attract story. Nia is a young trans woman struggling with having her community acknowledge her identity. Lexie is a Christian girl at her school who appears to be leading the charge to have her use the male facilities rather than the female ones. While I appreciate Nia and Lexie I have issues with Meredith Russo's writing. Meredith Russo is a trans woman with that in mind her writing feels overly cliche and perhaps wasteful. It is a very personal opinion. The story isn't bad, I enjoyed it, I just wish there was something more real about it.
The Way We Love Here by Dhonielle Clayton This is a reasonably clever play on the red string of fate but also uses time travel elements. It's another wonderful, hopeful story with unexpected protagonists. The artistic, driven Viola and the creative but sick Sebastian. Its focus is the possibilities and alternatives life can offer. I would like to know where Dhonielle Clayton drew their inspiration from the setting is on an isolated island which you cannot leave, it all feels very mythological both using eastern and western elements. I really enjoyed it.
Oomph by Emery Lord Oomph is super sweet and the perfect amount of nerdy. The main ladies use Natasha Romanov and Peggy Carter as nicknames, well actually names. They are in an airport waiting for flights. It's very cliche but it's a cliche for a reason. It's just so good. The smores are brilliant. I loved the writing, it's funny and cute.
The Dictionary of You and Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout I'm nopeing all the way out of this one. I have issues. I'm a librarian and this is all kinds of bad and just annoying stereotypes that push my buttons. Basically, I know too much and I can't turn my brain off. It is kind of cute but it is also kind of creepy. Essentially she is a librarian and he is a patron with an overdue dictionary. When she rings him to try and get the book back they flirt. I just can't not see how wrong it is.
The Unlikely Likelihood of Falling in Love by Jocelyn Davies This is another one with perhaps reverse archetypes. She is a math nerd, he is a musician. The plot revolves around her mathematical inclination and a final assessment. Their meet-cute really is adorable and the thing of daydreams, eyes meeting through train carriage windows. Sam urns it into an exercise in probabilities which is adorable. I do like Sam, the plot and the ending. The writing is well suited to the character which is in and of itself isn't easy.
259 Million Miles by Kass Morgan 259 Million Miles focused on missed opportunities with a side of social conscious. The main characters, Philip and Blythe, are likeable and human. It is truly standalone and doesn't ask for more. The ending brings out mixed emotions as one wants from a story dealing with humanity. But it was nice to have a story that was basically a locked room, a true two people put together with only one thing in common. Though in the battle of the futuristic meet-cutes, it loses to Click... easily.
Something Real by Julie Murphy This is the only review I'm spoiler warning so see my Goodreads for this bit.
Say Everything by Huntley Fitzpatrick This is such a well written and unexpected story. But I don't know if it is a meet-cute, there is too much history there. Emma is a fantastic character, I appreciate her resilience and forthrightness. Sean is well, Sean is something. But Emma is an unreliable narrator. The story is written in 2nd person, the only one in the book written as such. Like the book of quotes idea popularised by A Walk to Remember The Book of Lost Opportunites sounds like a brilliant idea. It is such a strong story though, at least to me.
The Department of Dead Love by Nicola Yoon This is the perfect last story, the perfect last line. It is a visually stunning story that plays on some unexpectedly heavy ideas. While I was torn on the three central characters I loved the writing and world. Nicola Yoon has a way with words that evokes emotion.

Meet Cute
Tumblr media
If you like love stories - fantasy, sci-fi, realistic fiction - about any gender, race, or situation, you’ll enjoy this book. It’ll instill unrealistic romantic fantasies in your mind about falling in love at an airport, on a subway, in a library ;), or a print shop, which can be disappointing, but most of all it’ll warm your heart and open your mind. I highly recommend checking out this book and reading some (or one, or all) stories. They’re all wonderfully diverse and will lead you through a range of human emotions.
Spoilers ahead ~
Short stories are my absolute FAVORITE, and I get a little happy, fluttery feeling every time I pick up a book like this one. There’s nothing more affirming than reading short fiction and thinking, “I could write something like this!” and nothing more pleasing for a hopeless romantic than reading about people falling in love in fourteen different ways.
Siege Etiquette by Katie Cotugno - Queen bee Hailey finds herself stuck in the bathroom with Wolf, a loner who spends half the year homeschooled at his family farm, when a high school house party is discovered by the police. I can’t remember the last time I read something in second person, which makes it pretty interesting. I don’t find the main character especially likable, though she is mysterious. Overall, I didn’t think the first story was all too romantic or compelling, though the situation certainly invites the reader to imagine.
Print Shop by Nina LaCour - Evie’s job at the print shop is not quite everything she’d hoped it would be, but it does lead her to a cute, nerdy girl despite a Twitter argument over customer service. I love everything about this story, from the characterization to the setting. The casual representation of Alex and Terry being husbands without anyone objecting or judging is beautiful. “Print Shop” makes me want to work in a small, old-fashioned print shop with a cranky owner and his doting husband. We must all bow down to Nina LaCour for giving us so much amazing content.
Hourglass by Ibi Zoboi - Cherish deals with end-of-high-school stress when her best friend ditches her to go with a boy to the prom and she faces modern problems in a digital world. Cherish is such a great character, and I love the issues this story confronts. It’s great for diversity in terms of body size and race. I also appreciate that the romantic element isn’t the basis or main theme of the story but hints at a very very cute and healthy relationship by the end.
Click by Katherine McGee - Alexa’s first experience with the world’s top dating technology is going terribly, considering that she lost her phone and with it her project to create a virtual reality avatar of her sister. Raden notices she’s different from other girls he’s dated, and maybe that isn’t such a bad thing. I liked the science fiction element of this story, and even though it was sad, it was heartwarming by the end.
The Intern by Sara Shepard - Clara’s first task at her father’s record label is an unusual one - she must take musician Phineas on an outing through New York to see a psychic. First of all, Phineas reminds me of Hozier in the loveliest way possible, so whenever he talks I picture Hozier and read the words in his voice. The two characters’ interactions are so pure and distinctly human that I just melt. This one made my heart HURT and squeeze with excitement.
Somewhere That’s Green by Meredith Russo - Nia Robinson already has to deal with adults and students alike telling her she doesn’t have the right to use the girls’ bathroom at school, and on top of all that, one of such protestors is playing Audrey in the very same production of Little Shop. But maybe Lexie isn’t exactly like her parents, and maybe Nia is a lot different than Lexie had expected. This story is so cute!!! I’m so grateful for Lexie’s character arc and the way she was portrayed as a naive yet brave person instead of an antagonist. The romantic tension that builds up and the way it’s resolved... just. Aaah.
The Way We Love Here by Dhonielle Clayton - Every person from the Isle of Meridien is born with red strings coiled around their ring finger to signify love. Once only one band is left, they will meet their soulmate. After saving an unfamiliar yet undeniably handsome boy from drowning, Vio ensnares with him, pushing them through glimpses of their future together. The imagery in this story is so beautiful. It’s all quite simple and peaceful, but it’s warm and happy and very well-written.
Oomph by Emery Lord - Cassidy is stuck at the airport with a one-hour delay likely to increase, and Johanna escapes a drunk guy’s conversation by sitting next to her. I know I’ve said this about just about every story in this book, but it’s just so cute. I found myself identifying with Cass and falling in love with Johanna alongside her. It was so satisfying and didn’t tear out my heart like the usual “Oh wait, I didn’t get her number!” moment.
The Dictionary of You and Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout - Moss has been trying to convince a mysterious library patron to return a dictionary for months now, and it seems futile until the hot guy from her history class shows up at the library. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that I have an affinity for love stories that take place in libraries, considering that I work at a library. From the quirky characters to the new words I’ve learned, this story is so beautifully crafted and well executed.
The Unlikely Likelihood of Falling in Love by Jocelyn Davies - What is the likelihood of falling in love with a boy you see out of the subway window, only to pass by and disappear? What are the odds you’ll find him again? Romance and math seem like the most mutually exclusive things in the world, but poets, songwriters, and authors have proven they are not. I love stories that throw you wholeheartedly in support of the main character, and this one had me rooting for Sam in all her math-genius glory.
259 Million Miles by Kass Morgan - Philip’s only chance of escaping his mortifying online presence is being chosen for a one-way mission to Mars, but he meets another contestant during the final round of challenges and it all goes awry. Kass Morgan’s characterization of Philip and his social anxiety was so accurate it hurt to read. The amazing things authors can do with characters and settings and dialogue in so few pages never ceases to astound me, especially in “259 Million Miles!” I had to stop the tears so I didn’t cry in the middle of the library.
Something Real by Julie Murphy - June and Martha are contestants on a dating show with a chance to win a date with Dylan, a pop star. This is another awesome story with plus-size representation and a same-sex couple! I love how Julie Murphy wrote this story - it’s rich with imagery but also very readable and humorous. This is at least the third time I’ve read this story since every time I get my hands on the book I race to show it to my friends. Also, the emphasis on TV being a lot more fake and a lot less magical than it looks is great.
Say Everything by Huntley Fitzpatrick - Emma Greene’s family hasn’t recovered from her family’s financial crisis and neither has her social life, but when a local rich athlete at the prep school a town over asks her on a date, she must confront the damage. This is another story written in second person, of which I’m not a fan. I did enjoy the descriptions and characterization in the story, though, and I found I could identify with the main character.
The Department of Dead Love by Nicola Yoon - After Thomas’ seemingly perfect relationship ends and he’s still not over it, he turns to the Department of Dead Love to determine its cause of death and perhaps start over, where he encounters empathetic Gabrielle Lee. I found it interesting to imagine a parallel universe or future in which we are able to autopsy and diagnose our failed relationships and how that would affect my choices and my life. I’d like to end this review with a quote from this last story that I thought was very striking:
“For whatever reason, there are people you want to tell your weird, secret thoughts... you want them to love you because of those things, not in spite of them. ‘Some people make you want to be known.’”
Happy reading! ~Raia

Utah football
Tumblr media
Utah Utes needed another took shots at a Pac-12 football title, and they got it. What will they do with it?                boxing day
Oregon helped make the entirety of this feasible for Utah. Notwithstanding the Ducks' triumph over USC toward the beginning of November, the Utes' own surprising season wouldn't have brought them into another Pac-12 football title game.
Tumblr media
Just to remind the No. 5 Utes (11-1) of the support that gave them another Pac-12 South title, No. 13 Oregon (10-2) will show up as their rival Friday night at Levi's Arena in Santa Clause Clara, Calif., the last checkpoint in Utah's way to a School Football Season finisher elimination round billet.
Every one of the Utes need is a LSU prevail upon Georgia and … stop in that spot. Nothing that occurs in other gathering title games Saturday will matter to Utah, except if the Utes beat Oregon for the Pac-12 title.
The inheritance of the most capable group in Ute history, with 10 players prone to be drafted into the NFL in April, will be resolved on a blustery, breezy night in the Sound Territory. Utah's seniors all recount to a similar story, how a 10-3 misfortune to Washington in a year ago's title game inspired them to return and accomplish more. As security Julian Blackmon stated, "This is an opportunity to change history for the Utes."
Tumblr media
Or on the other hand just recurrent it. Envision the disappointment of another misfortune at Levi's Arena, conceivably consigning the Utes to the Alamo Bowl — far beneath the renown level of the Season finisher elimination rounds or the Rose Bowl, the conventional goal of the Pac-12 victor. That makes Friday's down momentous to Utah's program, paying little mind to what unfurls somewhere else this end of the week.
Tumblr media
Weight? Totally. However guarded end Bradlee Anae said that contrasted and a year ago, "I notice the entire group isn't as tense, paving the way to this game. Everyone's free, everyone's flying near. You can disclose to it's a lot of veteran folks who have been there."
They were headed to return to Santa Clause Clara, in the last Pac-12 title game organized in the San Francisco 49ers' arena before the occasion moves to Las Vegas in 2020.             boxing day
Tumblr media
Reviewing the sentiment of strolling off that field a year ago, junior beneficiary Samson Nacua stated, "I recollect simply being harmed. I just contemplated internally, 'We'll be back.' And the entire group worked their rear ends off and we're back here once more. We're simply prepared to take care of business."
Utah's protection scarcely could have accomplished more against Washington, permitting just a field objective. The Utes lost when the Huskies' Byron Murphy restored an interference 66 yards for a touchdown in the second from last quarter of a tie game, after the ball bobbed off the hands and leg of previous Ute beneficiary Siaosi Sailor, presently playing for Utah State.
Tumblr media
"Everything about that game … it waits. You feel it," said Ute beneficiaries mentor Fellow Holliday. "It kept going an entire year for all of us. You just get such a significant number of opportunities to win a title."
On account of their eight-game series of wins, the Utes are supported over Oregon, Yet the Ducks are a similar group that was positioned in front of Utah in late November and furthermore was situated to make the Season finisher, until a 31-28 misfortune at Arizona State crashed them. With a solid hostile line ensuring quarterback Justin Herbert and a significantly better guard, this form of Oregon is superior to the Ducks who lost 32-25 at Utah in November 2018.
Tumblr media
The Utes likewise have updated from that point forward. They beat Oregon that day without harmed quarterback Tyler Huntley and running back Zack Greenery, an accomplishment that appears to be all the more staggering a year later, taking into account what those players have intended to Utah.
Tumblr media
Not since Sept. 29, 2018, at Washington State has Utah lost a game with them solid. Oregon athletic executive Ransack Mullens, the CFP council director, more than once has brought up that Utah's just misfortune (at USC in September) this season came after Greenery left from the get-go in the second quarter with shoulder damage.
Tumblr media
Greenery, at that point, turns into a variable in Utah's last opportunity to dazzle the advisory group. On the off chance that he has a major event Friday, it will strengthen how his nonappearance clarified what occurred in Los Angeles, where objective line disappointments hurt the Utes. Utah at that point pulled together and stripped the entirety of its other Pac-12 rivals, with the exception of Washington.
Tumblr media
The Utes' 33-28 win in Seattle required a final quarter rebound, with the barrier standing up for itself and the offense coming through with back to back touchdown drives of 80 or more yards. The Utes indicated balance and sturdiness that day. They'll require those qualities against the Ducks, who comparably energized to Washington, two weeks before Utah did.

Utah Had a Shot at the College Football Playoff. Oregon Spoiled It.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Lil’ old Utah, the Little Engine That Could of college football, had emerged from the shadows of the Wasatch Mountains to take a rare turn on center stage Friday night, eager to impress the College Football Playoff selection committee and maybe — just maybe — earn a spot alongside the behemoths of Ohio State, Louisiana State and Clemson.
All the under-recruited and overachieving Utes had to do was dispatch an Oregon team that for the last couple months had looked largely dead on its feet.
At worst, they would end up in the Rose Bowl. At best, they would be in the playoff.
Instead, the Utes looked like they did not even belong on the same field as the Ducks, getting beaten up and down both lines of scrimmage in a 37-15 loss in the Pac-12 Conference championship game.
“My senior year, the stage is set and we just don’t show up,” said Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley, who was sacked six times and threw an interception in the end zone. He was still seething a half-hour after the game ended.
He was also not alone. This, after all, was the second consecutive season that the Utes had floundered here, having lost to Washington by 10-3 last year. But this one came with greater opportunity costs: Had Utah won and accumulated a modest number of style points, and with a Georgia loss to L.S.U. in the Southeastern Conference championship on Saturday night, the Utes were well positioned to reach the playoff ahead of the winner of the Big 12 championship between Oklahoma and Baylor.
“It’s obvious what was at stake — more than just the Rose Bowl,” said Darrin Paulo, a senior offensive tackle. “It’s disappointing. I can’t really wrap my head around it right now.”
The loss was also a painful one for the Pac-12 itself.
It ensured that for the third consecutive season — and the fourth in the last five — the conference will miss the playoff. So while the Pac-12 had eight teams in the Associated Press Top 25 poll at some point this season, and it was the only conference in which every team won at least four games, this is an era in which the measure of a conference is taken at the top.
“It’s very important,” Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said of reaching the four-team playoff. “It’s become clear that’s become a litmus test for a lot of folks that follow the sport as to which teams make the playoff, which teams don’t.”
That the conference was pinning its hopes on Utah, not on Oregon, Southern California, Washington or Stanford — teams that in the last decade had injected themselves into the national championship picture — may be an indictment of the league.
But under Coach Kyle Whittingham, who arrived as an assistant 25 years ago under Ron McBride, ascending to head coach after Urban Meyer left following a perfect season in 2004, the Utes have been defined more by toughness than five-star recruits.
When the Utes, who finished 13-0 and second in the nation in 2008, moved to the Pac-12 three years later, Whittingham did not waver from his belief that hard-nosed football was a winning formula — even in a conference that has been known for developing N.F.L. quarterbacks and wide-open offenses.
“That’s been a point of emphasis for years,” Whittingham said. “Our No. 1 objective offensively is to be able to run the football with a physicality and a violence that takes its toll on the opponents, and defensively we want to make sure we want to stop the run.”
That’s what made the loss to Oregon so dispiriting.
“We lost in the one area we’ve been undefeated this year — the line of scrimmage,” Whittingham said after dropping to 11-2 for the season.
An early sign came on the game’s opening possession, when Utah’s punishing tailback Zach Moss was stuffed on third and 1, then was sliced down on fourth and 1 by safety Brady Breeze bolting off the edge.
The Utes, who found themselves down 20-0 at halftime, were no more successful on two other fourth downs in the first half: Huntley was swarmed at the line of scrimmage when he tried to scramble on fourth and 2 at the Oregon 31, and a false start on fourth and 1 from the Oregon 38 prompted a punt.
Then in the third quarter, after closing within 20-7, Utah came up empty again when Huntley’s pass on a quick slant from midfield was broken up on fourth and 2.
On the other side of the ball, the Utah defense, which had built its sterling resume against four freshmen quarterbacks and a third-stringer, quickly found itself facing a different problem.
Justin Herbert is an almost certain first-round N.F.L. draft pick, and Oregon’s offense is built around an offensive line with four seniors and sophomore tackle Penei Sewell, who was chosen by Pro Football Focus as the conference’s offensive player of the year.
Herbert had plenty of time to throw, picking out wide-open Johnny Johnson III for a 45-yard touchdown pass, and C.J. Verdell rolled up 208 yards on 18 carries, including 70-yard and 31-yard touchdown runs in the fourth quarter.
On the final one, Verdell high-stepped his way into the end zone.
As he did, the Oregon fans who packed the end zone saluted him and the band broke into song. On the Utah sideline, shoulders began to slump and Whittingham looked up at the scoreboard, waiting to watch a replay — searching for a clue to where it all went wrong.

Esquece as fotografias e o instagram.
