A little bit more of a teaser of my art for Always: A Cindy Morgan Zine organized by @cindymorganzine that is available now while the collected donations go to Girls Who Code charity!

And honestly I'm so happy with it. Lineart was finished like years ago and it was sitting in my actual wip folder since then (and believe me, there are only like 2-3 other things like this, rest is conveniently thrown to be forgotten and forever unfinished in the archives) so I'm so grateful for the motivation this wonderful zine initiative gave me.

And to be honest I missed tronblr 💙

Ladies' Night: A TRON Ficlet (PREVIEW)

Meanwhile, in a universe where Kevin Flynn trusted his friends enough to tell them the truth…

After a long day of teaching classes, the last thing Lora wanted was to spend another eight subjective hours on the Grid with Alan and Flynn. But she’d promised Yori she’d rez in at least once this week, and it was already Thursday. She downed a cup of coffee from the carafe Flynn kept in his basement office, and joined her husband and their best friend in front of the digitizer.

Tron and Yori met them at the Portal output in the city. Tron pulled Flynn and Alan aside at once, leaving Lora standing next to her program, unsure of what to say. Yori, for her part, looked a little nervous herself.

It had been nearly three months since they’d first met in person, if that was even the right term for what meeting someone inside a computer system really was. Lora still found herself astounded by this place, and even more by her experience of it, which was somehow not subjective but instead objective—what she saw was what Alan and Flynn saw, a truth written in code.

Even more perplexing to Lora’s mind was Yori, the program she’d written for the digitizer’s first iteration. It had taken some getting used to, seeing her own face looking back at her, and hearing her own voice answer her questions. But Yori was no mere copy. They had the same playful energy at times, true, but Yori seemed to be more reserved and careful, while Lora was more willing to take risks to get results. They still agreed more often than not, but Lora bet there were things about Yori she still didn’t know.

PBW Witch Shop & Zine Distro

The PBW Witch Shop is a curated selection of witchcraft and magic related zines, books, pin-back buttons, tarot cards and more.

We focus on traditional and folkloric witchcraft, animism, chaos magic, secular witchcraft, magical herbs and plants, queer witchcraft, tarot & Divination, witchcraft & magic in politics, history, culture, and social & racial justice,  and aspects of non-Wiccan forms of witchcraft, magic, and paganism.

Pre-Covid the Portland Button Works primarily made custom pinback button. Selling zines and books was secondary and more of a hobby for me to share things I’d like to read. Right now our business is pivoting to focus on books and zines that people can read in the comfort and safety of their own homes. Some items are from well known witchcraft and occult publisher and some are titles from small publishers with interesting items I don’t see in other shops but I’m excited to elevate.

Not everyone has income to buy books right now, we totally understand that, but I would love it if you were able to reblog this post or share Portland Button Works and PBW Witch Shop with your friends.

The Publications and Multiples Fair is an annual exposition of contemporary artist books, prints, publications, sculptures, jewelry, textiles, and works produced in multiple. This event has grown tremendously, from having 15 vendors in its first year to having 150 in its seventh year. Taking up one weekend in the spring, PMF acts as a beacon for artists across the country. People traveling from both coasts come together to sell the wares they have produced throughout the year and stay for the connections made with makers they may have never met before. In more recent years have we curated additional on-site programming throughout the weekend that includes panel discussions on contemporary identity issues, poetry readings, musical performances, motivational speeches, and artist talks.

Formed in 2009, Open Space is a DIY artist-run gallery and collective located in Baltimore, Maryland.

Saturday: Madeline Campbell of Women in Sound: 1-2pm A complement to Women in Sound zine, this talk is an introduction to the impact of women and queer people on electronic music and recorded sound. It will discuss the equipment and creative processes employed to produce unheard sounds and pioneer a genre. No prior knowledge of electronic music necessary to enjoy this program!

Pecha Kucha Series on “SciFi Optimism”: 2:30-3:30pm Pecha Kuchas are back! This year six presenters will explore the idea of “scifi optimism” and how it relates to their life and work. Featuring Claire Mirocha, Alexis Skinner, Lunar Insurrection, Umiko Niwa, Jen Kirby and Vincent Seadler.

ACRE TV screening: 4:00-5:00pm ACRE TV co-director Andrew Mausert-Mooney will present selections from the archives and speak to the Chicago-based project’s four year history. ACRE TV is an artist-made livestreaming tele-vision network (found online at ACRE.org) that features live and canned video, performances, durational works, and experimental broadcasts. ACRE TV was born out of the collaborative spirit of ACRE(Artists’ Cooperative Residency and Exhibitions) based in Chicago and Steuben, Wisconsin.

Nam Nam 200 5:00-6:00pm The world premier screening of video work by Marcelline, Travis Levasseur and Corey Hughes.

Sunday: Zoe Ligon in conversation with Stefani Levin about Female Ejaculation: 1-2pm Zoe Ligon artist and founder of Spectrum Boutique in Detroit will talk to local sex therapist Stefani Levin about female ejaculation.

LES FLEURS DU MAL: Readings on Erotic Decadence and Decay 2:30-4:00pm LES FLEURS DU MAL is a performance of poetry, sound, and provocative imagery inspired by Post-Baudelairean erotic decadence and decay. This show features 14 Poets, a large scale painting as backdrop by Viveca Licata, and intermission sounds by QUNA. Featuring readings by Max Guy, Grace Davis, Anna K. Crooks, Adam Marans, Lane Harlan, Lexie Mountain, Adam Beaver, Maya Martinez, Lindsay Raspi, Saida Agostini, Lily Herman, Jasmine Pullen-Schmidt and Janea Kelly. The show is curated by Lane Harlan exclusively for PMF.

Workshops:

Satruday Beast Grrl Zine, 3:00-4:00pm Beast Grrl Zine will be running a mini-zine workshop– all materials provided! Come out to listen to tunes and chop up magazines with us. Beast Grrl Zine is a youth-run feminist organization, promoting youth empowerment, feminist education, and activism.

Sunday Intro to “Dungeons and Dragons” 1:00-3:30pm –local novelist and game maker Justin Sirois will give a 2 hour introduction to tabletop role playing and the basic system The Black Hack.

HAIR CLUB (with Kelly Lloyd) 4:00-5:00pm Hair Club would like to invite participants to use a variety of materials to construct their own merkin, or pubic wig. Merkins were originally worn by sex workers, but are now used as decorative items by people of all genders, and for “modesty” purposes by actors. During this event, while constructing our merkins with a variety of materials including sequins, fringe, felt, faux-fur, yarn, ribbon and glitter paper, we will engage participants in a discussion around body hair, specifically pubic hair, looking at the vilification of women’s body hair and the portrayal of pubic hair in pop culture. This workshop will explore a humorous DIY strategy to processing culture’s dictates about where hair should and should not be, while Kate Bush plays in the background. Co-founded by Suzanne Gold, Kelly Lloyd, and Michal Lynn Shumate, HAIR CLUB is an interdisciplinary, research-based art collective whose work is centered around the multivalent topic of HAIR.

Greetings, programs! The Always zine comes out tomorrow, and we cannot wait! Here are a few minor updates before the zine drops. (Below the cut because they’re technical and boring.)

Originally, we planned to offer a print ready version of the zine for a minimum $15 donation. But because of some logistics, the zine will now be print ready by default. (Meaning the pages are numbered and there are the correct number of pages for a printed version to look nice.) The zine is still pay what you can. Any amount is greatly appreciated.

We plan to make our donation to Girls Who Code a month or two after the zine’s release, depending on how long donations continue to trickle in. We had to choose a payout method from itch, which means that we will not be in complete control of when the funds the zine raises will come through to us. (And we obviously can’t donate money we don’t have.) We will make the donation as soon as the payout comes through, and promise to be transparent on all financial aspects of the zine. (Which is why we wanted to make this clear beforehand.) We will post the total funds raised and proof of donation when the time comes.

Greetings, programs! Zine submissions are officially closed! Thank you to everyone who sent in their work! We’ve received over 50 submissions from more than 20 creators, and we are so grateful for this outpouring of love for Cindy Morgan.

So, what’s next? Sam and I will be reviewing all zine submissions this week, and we plan to send out decision emails by the end of the week. We’re still deciding on a release date for the zine, but we will post a complete list of contributors before the zine’s release.

Greetings, programs! The Always Zine mod team would like to ask that you do not post your zine submission(s) before the release of the zine if you’re making something new. We didn’t specify this in the rules as we’re also accepting pieces that have previously been shared, but if you are making something new, please don’t post the full piece until after the zine comes out. We will add more info about this to the rules for clarification.

If you’ve already posted your submission, that’s ok. No need to delete your post, and it won’t affect our decision. But moving forward, please wait to debut new pieces in the zine.

One of the goals of the Always zine is to collect donations, so we don’t want too much of what’s in the zine to be material people have already seen. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!
