Did you know that Rishi Sunak is the only (ex) Chancellor of the Exchequer to have broken the law during his tenure? He was fined by the police in April, earlier this year, for breaking socialising rules whilst the nation was still in lockdown due to the pandemic.

Backlash against Hunt as Tory-run councils feel the squeeze
Malign neglect of local government after 13 years of savage spending cuts has created an ‘existential threat’ to council services. ‘Things are starting to fall apart at the seams,’ warns a Tory source “Flagship” Conservative-run county councils could suffer financial collapse ahead of next year’s General Election, Tory sources have warned, as local government responded to the extension of…

Proposed incentives included tax rebates to help cover the costs of maternity and child-rearing, especially for meritorious families (an idea which seemed inappropriate to Chancellor of the Exchequer Winston Churchill, who, though he considered encouraging the fertility of the professional classes praiseworthy, declared that this aim had no connection with the budget, whose only preoccupations were to finance the government).

As of 2022, who is the longest serving Chancellor of the Exchequer since the 1820s?
Tumblr media
As of 2022, Gordon Brown is Britain’s longest-serving modern Chancellor of the Exchequer. He was appointed Chancellor in May 1997, when Tony Blair became Prime Minister, through to June 2007 when he started as Prime Minister himself. Brown beat David Lloyd George's record of 7 years and 43 days (1908-1915) but failed to beat William Ewart Gladstone's total of 12 years and 4 months. Some argue Gladstone's record does not count because he was Chancellor several times rather than in one continuous period (1852-1882).
The Chancellor of the Exchequer is the head of the government treasury in the United Kingdom, making them responsible for Britain's money and economy. Brown's period as Chancellor saw major reforms, such as the abolition of Advance Corporation Tax (ACT) relief and the transfer of interest rate setting power to the Bank of England. This made the Bank of England independent from the government.
Brown took over as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after Tony Blair resigned on 27th June 2007. Born in Scotland in 1951, Brown began his career in television as a journalist. He also earned a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. Brown been a Member of Parliament for the Labour Party in 1983.

Is it me, or does the phrase "Serial Entrepreneur" (as used by Chris Philp on his Twitter bio) not ring very large red flag alarm bells for a man who is second in line at the Treasury?
At the very least it screams indecisiveness. At the very worst incompetence. But what do we expect, huh?
