Yes, it is very important that we see their relationship come to fruition as it was meant to be. I'm glad that the most recent Broadway adaptation made that clear as well. It is a beautiful and integral part of this story.
I went to go see The Color Purple with my family and cried during all of Act 3. While it didn’t make me weep with my ancestors like the 1985 adaptation, I felt happy and my heart was full after the movie.
I have not watched The Color Purple yet, I think I’m gonna wait till I read the book, but a lot of y’all are unserious per usual. I haven’t seen it a lot, thank god, but there are idiots claiming that an “agenda” is going on cuz Shug and Celie are together. Ion know what to tell y’all cuz they were together in the book and in the og version. Same sex relationships pre-date slavery and always have. It is not a European concept like a lot of homophobic ppl claim especially since it was largely demonized by Europeans. It truly doesn’t take long to look into this but y’all don’t want to. You just wanna talk out the side of your neck.
