so i did a campus tour at cardiff university today and took photos of a bunch of the buildings
i knew at least one of them was used to film the university the doctor works at in dw s10 so when i got back to the car i googled it
turns out it was the main building, which i got a photo of, but i'm lowkey freaked out that my photo is at EXACTLY THE SAME ANGLE AS ONE OF THE SHOTS IN THE EPISODE

Scientists make methanol at room temperature
A more sustainable method of creating methanol—a key component of fuels, plastics, and medicines—has been developed by Cardiff University scientists and an international team of collaborators.
The process, which uses a highly active catalyst, converts oxygen and the natural gas methane into methanol at room temperature without the need for external energy sources such as light or electricity.
The breakthrough builds on the Cardiff team's efforts to move away from expensive and energy-intensive processes by developing new catalytic methods with industry and promoting the use of catalysis as a sustainable 21st century technology.
Their findings, published in an article titled "H2-reduced phosphomolybdate promotes room-temperature aerobic oxidation of methane to methanol" in Nature Catalysis, represent a significant step toward cleaner, greener methanol production which, with further development, could be used in industrial processes worldwide.

Review: Hidden Hand – How The Chinese Communist Party is Reshaping The World – by Clive Hamilton & Mareike Ohlberg
As a committed sinophile, this recently written book seemed a necessity. As China continues its rise to being the most dominant national force economically on the planet, it is quite difficult to obtain meaningful and relevant and unbiased factual information about its thoughts and the thoughts of its governing Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Aside from the political Iron Curtain, there is the…

New method of recycling colored plastics offers possible solution to 'huge environmental challenge'
A new method for recycling colored plastics has been developed by scientists at Cardiff University.
The process, which breaks down colored polymers, the principal component of plastics, into their original components, could lead to a circular plastic recycling economy reducing pollution on land and in our oceans, the researchers claim.
Widely used in drinks bottles, food packaging, clothing and electronics, colored plastics can be melted down and remolded into new products, but additives or colorants cannot be removed in current recycling processes.
To avoid this method of downcycling, where recycled plastic is of lower quality than the original material, the Cardiff team used a chemical process called depolymerization.
