Eddie stands at the bar, sipping at the whisky in his glass, eyes flickering over the crush of bodies and dark mahogany. He's at a premier party at TIFF, doesn't remember what movie it's for, is supposed to "mingle" according to his agent. And sure, he's charismatic, got a big personality and a loud mouth, but he's not good at networking; resents having to perform when he's not playing a role. Resents it more that he's an Oscar nominated actor, that his work doesn't stand for itself.
And then there's the Steve Harrington of it all. Heartthrob. America's Sweetheart. The boy next door. He's across the room, deep in conversation, but his eyes--they keep finding Eddie, scanning him with unmistakable heat.
They starred in a movie called Dying on the Pass. Played life-long best friends who became elite chefs and opened a restaurant together. The movie follows the dissolution of their friendship as the stresses of pursuing a Michelin Star drive them apart. It was a critical and commercial hit, cue awards noms, and offers pouring in, and--
Steve Harrington is his bed.
They promised, when filming wrapped. They swore it was the last time. They promised--
They basically shared a hotel room during awards season, woke up tangled together every morning.
They spent a torrid weekend in Atlanta after Steve wrapped on a Netflix action movie.
Six months after, they had a quick, furious fuck in the bathroom at a club in London.
Dangerous, stupid, but no one caught them. And here Steve is in Toronto, surrounded by press, staring at Eddie like he wants to eat him.
Eddie tries to ignore it. But every time their eyes meet, warmth pools low in his abdomen, and he wants.
They meet up eventually, pose for a couple of pictures, Eddie trying to ignore the way his skin tingles everywhere that Steve touches. Steve slings an arm around his waist, lets it linger.
After, Eddie goes out for a smoke, the patio blissfully deserted. He's half way through his cigarette when Steve steps out the sliding door, wrapping his hands in Eddie's hair, pulling him into a kiss. The cigarette drops as he grips onto the other man, a whimper slipping from his lips.
He should stop this, they're outside, anyone could see, and Steve isn't out--isn't--he's straight to the entire world, the straightest man alive. And Eddie, he's open about his preferences, identifies as queer, though lately he's been more interested in men--in one man, specifically-- and Steve isn't out, isn't ready to be and--
"Come back to my room?" Steve asks. Their mouths are still pressed together.
"Uh-huh," Eddie answers.
Steve whispers his room number before disappearing back inside. They're in the same hotel, on the same floor, like the universe wants them to keep hooking up. But Steve is being reckless.
Eddie goes to Steve that night with every intention of telling him they need to stop, to slow down, that they're going to get caught and he knows Steve isn't ready, but he doesn't. He doesn't that night and he doesn't two months later when they bump into each other in Venice, or four months after that in New York, or--or --or
It's dangerous, impulsive, too many close calls for them to keep it up and then--and then he's at a house party in the hills, an industry thing, the host is a wannabe big shot producer trying to get in good with the Hollywood elite. Steve is out of town. In Europe filming or maybe Australia for some event or--
Striding through the party, eyes locked on Eddie, and they're in a hallway, in a hallway where anyone could see them, but Steve is kissing him. They're kissing and it's rough and possessive and it stings.
Steve pushes him through double-doors, to the room at their backs, and Eddie wants to protest, to remind him they don't know if it's empty. But Steve is tugging the tie out of Eddie's hair, digging this hands into the now loose curls, and Eddie whines, lets himself be lead.
He's pushed against a table, and in the weak light from the windows, he realizes they're in the dining room. Steve grinds against him, muttering, "missed you so much, baby. God, it's been too long. Need you so bad."
Eddie moans, shifting to press more against Steve. "Missed you too, sweetheart, fuck."
They're kissing and Eddie's high on it, on Steve, can't get enough.
There's a loud burst of laughter outside the door, and reality smashes back into focus.
"Stop," he whispers to Steve.
Steve does in an instant, stepping back. Even in the darkness, Eddie sees the confusion and hurt mingling in the squint of his eyes, his light frown.
"Steve we--this is dangerous. There are people everywhere. Anyone could come in. There's a TMZ guy here, and we--need to be careful."
"Fuck," Steve breathes. "Eddie I--fuck." He presses his hand over his mouth, eyes squeezed shut. "I can't get enough of you, man. Whenever I see you I just--I don't think--I see you and I want you so bad it hurts. Once every few months isn't enough. Hookups aren't enough. And I know that's not what we agreed to, and--"
"Steve," Eddie gently cuts him off. "I'm crazy about you. It hasn't been hookups for me for--" ever, it had never been, but he shakes his head instead of saying that. "But we've been reckless, sweetheart, and I don't want to see you hurt."
"It's not fair to you, though, right? Hiding and sneaking around with me."
"You need time, Steve. You deserve to come out on your terms, when you're ready. And if that means we're not public for a while, then we're not."
"What if I'm never ready?" He whispers. It breaks Eddie's heart, but it's a fair question for a man who got famous as an angelic child star in a series of fantasy-adventure movies before playing a quarterback with a heart-of-gold on the CW for seven seasons. He's always kept up a squeaky clean image, never in trouble, name rarely in the tabloids.
"Then we'll deal with it together."
"Okay," Steve whispers. A smile spreads slow across his face. "I'd like that."
--
Steve Harrington and Eddie Munson are seen around town together often. Getting lunch, at parties, shopping. In an interview Steve says that Eddie's his best friend, they do everything together. There's speculation online, of course, but it's pretty quiet. So, they go to premiers and award shows and events together.
A year goes by and it's easy, light, fun. They're in love.
Eddie's messing around on his guitar, not with any intent just for the joy of it. He's on the loveseat in the office of their apartment--their apartment. Steve is in the kitchen, he thinks, or puttering in the garden.
They haven't talked about Steve coming out; haven't needed to.
"Hey," Steve says from the doorway. Eddie jumps.
"Hey yourself."
"It's Bi Visibility day."
"Is it now?" He's not sure where this is going
"I want to come out."
He puts the guitar down. "You sure?"
Steve nods. He doesn't seem nervous, just calm and steady.
"How do you want to do it?"
He crosses the room, climbing onto Eddie's lap, making Eddie laugh. "Works for me." Eddie gives Steve's ass a playful squeeze.
They start kissing then, Steve snapping pics on his phone randomly as they make out.
Steve won't let Eddie peak as he crafts his Insta post, not until it's done and live for his 15 million followers.
The picture he picked, it's a soft kiss, mouths open but lips only just brushing, noses pressed together in a sweet little bump. But the thing about, the thing that makes Eddie's stomach swoop, is the way they're both smiling, the way it's obvious just how in love they are.
Steve's captioned it with the words "Witness Me" and the bi flag.
He pulls his boy into another kiss, says, "Hey,"
"Hmm?" Steve doesn't pull away.
"Wanna go be visibly bisexual with me in the bedroom?"
Steve hops off his lap, strides across the room, turning to flash Eddie a devious smile. "Thought you'd never ask."

Working class Dems who campaign on economics beat Trumpists in elections
Tumblr media
I'm on tour with my new, nationally bestselling novel The Bezzle! Catch me FRIDAY NIGHT (Mar 22) in TORONTO, then SUNDAY (Mar 24) with LAURA POITRAS in NYC, then Anaheim, and more!
Tumblr media
The Democratic Party Pizzaburger Theory of Electioneering is: half the electorate wants a pizza, the other half wants a burger, so we'll give them all a pizzaburger and make them all equally dissatisfied, thus winning the election:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/16/that-boy-aint-right/#dinos-rinos-and-dunnos
But no one wants a pizzaburger. The Biden administration's approach of letting the Warren/Sanders wing pick the antitrust enforcers while keeping judicial appointments in the Manchin-Synematic universe is a catastrophe in which progressive Dem regulators (who serve one term) are thwarted by corporatist Dem judges (who serve for life):
https://pluralistic.net/2023/07/14/making-good-trouble/#the-peoples-champion
The Democrats – like all parties in two-party systems – are a coalition; in this case, a "progressive" liberal-left coalition with liberals serving as senior partners, steering the party and setting its policies. These corporate dems like to color themselves as "neutral" technocrats with "realistic, apolitical" policies that represent what's best for the country:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/05/not-that-naomi/#if-the-naomi-be-klein-youre-doing-just-fine
This sets up the left wing of the party as the starry-eyed, unrealistic radicals whose policies are unpopular and will lose elections. But for a decade, grassroots-funded primary challenges have made it possible to test this theory, by putting leftist politicians on the ballot in front of voters, especially in tight races with far-right Republicans (that is, exactly the kinds of races that the corporate wing of the party says we can't afford to take chances on).
The 2022 midterms included enough races to start testing these theories – and, unlike traditional midterms, these races enjoyed high voter turnout, thanks to the unpopularity of GOP positions like abortion bans, book bans and anti-trans laws. Jacobin teamed up with the Center for Working-Class Politics, Yougov and the Center for Work and Democracy at ASU and analyzed those races:
https://images.jacobinmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/11134429/CWCP-Report-2024.pdf
Their conclusion: candidates from working-class backgrounds who campaigned on economic policies like high-quality jobs, higher minimum wages, a jobs guarantee, ending offshoring and outsourcing, building infrastructure and bringing manufacturing back to the US won with a 50% share of the vote in rural and working-class districts. Dems who didn't lost with a 35% share of the vote:
https://prospect.org/politics/2024-03-18-how-actually-existing-democrats-run-for-office/
In other words, in the kinds of districts where Trumpist politicians are beating Democrats, running on "left populist" policies beats Trumpist politicians.
That's the good news: if Dems recruit leftist, working class politicians and put them up for office on policies that address the material reality of voters' lives, they can beat fascist GOP candidates.
Now for the bad news: the Democratic establishment has no interest in getting these candidates onto the ballot. Working-class candidates, by definition, lack the networks of deep-pocketed cronies who can fund their primary campaigns. Only 2.3% of Dem candidates come from blue-collar backgrounds (if you include "pink-collar" professions like nursing and teaching, the number goes up to 5.9%):
https://jacobin.com/2024/03/left-populists-working-class-voters
All of this confirms the findings of Trump's Kryoptonite, an earlier Jacobin/CWCP research project that polled working-class voters on preferences for hypothetical candidates, finding that working-class candidates with economically progressive policies handily beat out Republicans, including MAGA Republicans:
https://images.jacobinmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/08125102/TrumpsKryptonite_Final_June2023.pdf
Since the Clinton-Blair years, "progressives" have abandoned economic populism ("It's not a burning ambition for me to make sure that David Beckham earns less money" -T. Blair) and pursued a "third way" that seeks to replace half the world's of supply white, male oligarchs with diverse oligarchs from a variety of backgrounds and genders. We were told that this was done in the name of winning elections with "modern" policies that replaced old-fashioned ideas about decent pay, decent jobs, and worker power.
These policies have delivered a genocide-riven world on the brink of several kinds of existential catastrophe. They're a failure. The pizzaburger party didn't deliver safety, nor prosperity – and it also can't deliver elections.

Putting it nicely, the past few weeks had been a bit of a whirlwind. But honestly, it's felt as if you’d been to Hell and back.
While the team experienced a mix of victories and defeats, only adding to the stress levels, you, as an intern at MLSE, found yourself knee-deep in event planning. As for the moment, your plate was loaded with preparations for the MLSE Foundation's Blue and Night Gala, followed by the upcoming NHL All-Star event set in early February.
To say you were stressed out would be an understatement.
And William sensed it immediately. With the back-and-forth between home games and road trips, along with the impending events, you were on the verge of losing your sanity. Juggling responsibilities left you drained, and the pressure was getting to you.
Moreover, the stress also seeped into your relationship. Both of you were busy and feeling the strain, especially with William eager to prove himself after signing a new contract, which sometimes led to missed opportunities and fewer goals. And the frustration was evident for both of you. The usual quality time was replaced by a professional facade, thanks to the demands of games and event planning, and it almost seemed like the connection you once had was slowly fading amid the chaos.
However, being the intern following the Toronto Maple Leafs did have its perks, allowing you to be close to William most of the time. While you couldn't display your love publicly, stolen moments in hotel rooms during road trips brought a sense of normalcy and intimacy, as it offered a brief escape from the overwhelming pressures.
Softly murmuring in the hotel room after a game against the Seattle Krakens, you traced your fingers along William's face.
“You know,” you said, both of you relaxing, “I really love that you’re heading to the All Stars…”
“But?” William chuckled.
“But maybe a few days off would have been nice…” you almost whispered, your gaze fixed on his.
“Mmm, yeah, definitely - but don’t you have to work anyway?”
“Yeah, but  I could've tried to snag a few days off,” you admitted.
“During the All-Star event?” William inquired a bit rhetorically.
“Alright, maybe not,” you joined in with a chuckle. “Guess it's a good thing I'll have you around then,” you flashed a sweet smile.
“Oh baby, I think it's even better that I have YOU around,” he countered with a cheeky wink, before he then leaned over your body, planting a deep kiss. “I get to do what I love most – playing hockey – and look at your beautiful face all at once.”
And you couldn’t help but respond with a passionate kiss, your mouths exploring each other as you wrapped your hands around his neck, pulling him closer, and sharing the warmth of the moment.
**
However, upon returning to Toronto, the All-Star event took a backseat to the gala: A Night with Blue and White - a themed casino night demanding meticulous planning and attention to detail.
And thankfully, all things were falling into place. Blackjack tables were secured, the guest list meticulously checked (probably twice or thrice), the venue beautifully decorated, and the entertainment scheduled.
It was shaping up to be perfect.
And as for your role, you were lucky enough to be scheduled to work at the start of the night. However, Brendan had insisted that you not only worked but also made an effort to enjoy and mingle. This was a prime opportunity for networking and socialising, he’d argued. He even emphasised the importance of dressing to impress and showcasing your best behaviour, as it could lead to open doors to future opportunities.
So, then the next dilemma naturally surfaced: What on earth would you wear?
Naturally, you turned to Melanie, who was just as panicked as you. A gala meant dresses, heels, and going all out with hair and makeup.
However, since you both had to work at the beginning of the night, capturing shots of the players and maybe doing a couple of interviews before mingling, it meant no gowns, and an outfit change halfway through. But nonetheless, you were looking forward to it. Though, while not your strongest suit, you were determined to flaunt your skills and highlight the hard work you'd put into your job.
And, of course, there was the chance to socialise with the players, catching up and chatting outside the stressful arena. Much-needed bonding time for everyone after the turbulence of the past couple of weeks' games, and the players were itching to spend some off-ice time together and have a bit of fun.
So, as you and Melanie browsed dresses in a store, she turned to you and asked, “Alright, what do you think?”
“Well, it's something,” you smiled, attempting not to let on your lack of enthusiasm for her choice of the vivid colours she favoured show. “It’s definitely more your style than mine.”
With a great smile, she then picked up a few more other gowns, and the two of you continued to browse the store.
"Alright, let's try these on," you suggested, grabbing a couple of options for yourself, and heading towards the fitting rooms.
The dresses varied in styles, some more vibrant and bold, while others exuded timeless sophistication.
And standing in the dressing rooms, a mischievous glint in your eye, you couldn't resist sharing the dress options with William, knowing he’d probably look flawless regardless. You snapped a quick shot of the dresses hanging in the fitting room, capturing the variety of styles and colours.
"Help me out, fashion critic 😉 Which one do you think will make heads turn at the gala?"
"Oh, they all look great babe 😘 and I’m sure you’ll look amazing in anything!”
“Willy! That doesn’t help – I need your advice 🤔”
“Of course, you do! They don’t call me Styles for nothing 😉 But maybe a sneak peek of what's underneath can help with a more intimate opinion?" William's response came swiftly.
But you too could play along. “And what makes you think I’ll be wearing anything underneath? 😉” You smiled, perhaps a little too satisfied with your own response.
"Mmm 😏 I hope you won’t… but maybe the black one - and then I'll have to see the 'underneath' in person.”
“Hmm naughty boy 😏 Alright, I’ll consider the black one then.”
And after trying on the dresses, you both settled on outfits that struck the right balance between style and appropriateness for the event.
**
The night of the gala arrived with an air of excitement and nervous anticipation. The venue sparkled with elegance, bathed in the hues of blue and white. And as the night slowly began, you found yourself wearing a sophisticated yet practical ensemble – a balance of professionalism and style that would transition seamlessly from work to play.
In the bustling backstage, amidst the array of camera equipment and buzzing event staff, you exchanged glances with Melanie, both of you dressed to impress. "I can't believe we have to work at such a glamorous event," she quipped, adjusting her camera strap.
You chuckled, "Yeah, but at least we get a taste of the high life while doing it. Have you seen the blackjack tables? It's like we're in a James Bond movie."
And the chaos backstage only intensified as the players started arriving, each looking sharp in their tailored suits. Your task was to capture candid shots, freeze-framing the moments of laughter and camaraderie that happened behind the scenes.
And Brendan, the ever-supportive boss, gave you a reassuring nod before you set off with your camera. "Remember, work hard, but enjoy yourself too. This is your chance to shine."
So, while working your skills, you of course managed to snap shots of William as well, who looked dashing yet casual in his suit, while wearing his rarely seen glasses. God, they looked so sexy on him. It was a look you didn’t see often in public; however, the glasses did come out every now and then back home when he needed them for watching movies. His hair was untamed as usual, yet he still looked flawless. He’d probably just thrown it on five minutes before leaving his condo, and still, he’d pull off anything.
As the night slowly unfolded, the stress of the games seemed to dissipate, replaced by genuine smiles and relaxed shoulders. The gala provided a much-needed break from the intensity of the rink, offering a chance for everyone to unwind and connect off the ice.
Then, once the initial work duties were fulfilled, you and Melanie took a moment to freshen up before joining the festivities. Dressed in your chosen evening attire, you navigated the sea of guests and players, aiming to strike a balance between networking and enjoying the night.
And as you stepped into the grand hall, William’s eyes immediately fixed on you.
From across the room, seated by a casino table, it suddenly became harder for him to concentrate as you casually strolled in your formal wear, shining like a million diamonds.
It was as if his heart paused for a brief moment, his gaze fixated on you, taking in all your absolute beauty. Fortunately, he'd just lost a round, so he had to sit the next one out, unable to tear his eyes away from you.
Earlier, he had already noticed your nicely styled hair, but seeing you with freshly applied makeup and your long dress, perfectly tailored to your curves, took his breath away.
And the moment your eyes met William's across the room, there was an undeniable spark of recognition. His attention shifted entirely, the casino table and its games momentarily forgotten as he focused on you, and the subtle smile on your face hinted at the playful anticipation of his reaction.
As you approached, it was as if the sea of people parted, leaving only a path illuminated by the glow of your presence, and William stood up, unable to conceal the admiration in his eyes.
"Wow," he breathed, a mixture of surprise and delight evident in his voice. "You look… absolutely amazing."
You couldn't help but blush at his genuine reaction. "Thank you," you replied, a hint of a smile playing on your lips. "I was aiming to impress you."
“Baby, you always impress me,” William chuckled, his hand subtly touching yours, being careful not to draw too much attention from those who shouldn't see hints of a secret relationship. “I just… I don’t like that I can’t even have you by my side all night, and everyone here can look at you.”
It was almost a whisper, but the loud chatter and music compelled him to speak a bit louder, especially since you couldn’t stand as close as you both desired.
“Well, I’m sure we can manage a photo, for professional purposes,” you suggested with a smile, and William immediately agreed.
So, you waved over Melanie to capture a few shots of the two of you, before you’d go around taking more photos with the rest of the team, ensuring it didn't look like William was being singled out.
But his hand around your waist felt so good that it was almost painful. The way he held you closely for that brief moment as Melanie snapped the camera had both of you longing for more.
And it was just as tough for William. How he wished to stroll around with you all night, proudly showing off how good you both looked together as a couple. But he couldn’t.
So, both of you simply savoured the brief moment you could stand together. However, just before parting, you gently leaned into him.
"Oh, and just so you know, I'm still not wearing anything underneath," you said, your tone laced with seduction and a cheeky wink, leaving him to his thoughts.
And then the mingling kicked off, conversations flowed, and laughter resonated through the venue. You found yourself engaging with players and other professionals in the industry, not only showcasing your camera skills but also demonstrating your ability to navigate social situations.
It seemed almost effortless for you once the conversations started rolling.
However, being around William in this setting wasn't a walk in the park. You could practically sense his gaze following you every time you moved, and it didn't escape the notice of his teammates.
"Hey, watch out, Willy, you're drooling," Auston teased as they stood, observing a few others playing.
William chuckled at Auston's playful jab, doing a lousy job of pretending to be nonchalant. And his other teammates were quick to join in the banter, adding their own comments with smirks and grins.
"Come on, Willy, at least try and play it cool," Mitch jumped in, getting a good laugh from the group.
William ran his hand through his hair, pretending to be innocent. "I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Just enjoying the view."
Then Mo nudged him with a smirk. "Enjoying? Seems more like staring as if you've never laid eyes on a girl before."
Laughter filled the room as you approached them slowly.
"What's so funny?" you asked with a soft chuckle.
"Oh, nothing... just Willy here drooling like a teenage boy seeing a girl’s boobs for the first time," Auston laughed.
"Hey, if he's drooling, at least he's got good taste," you teased in defence, playfully winking at William, making the rest of the lads join in.
But beneath the banter, there was more than just fun and jokes. Both you and William were longing for each other's touch. And the distance was torturing.
However, the lively atmosphere was abruptly interrupted by a doting microphone, when someone suddenly halted the chatter and music, taking the stage at the centre of the venue to deliver a speech.
So, as the attention of all the guests shifted towards the stage, you and William took the chance to stand a bit closer to each other. Trying to ease into it, his body was almost against yours, and you could feel him just behind you. His warmth against you.
And as your gaze remained fixed on the bright lights illuminating the spokesperson, you suddenly sensed William's fingers delicately tracing yours. His touch was featherlight, slow, and gentle, as he subtly attempted to intertwine his fingers with yours. It was the closest you'd come to behaving like a couple in public, and the sensation was absolutely exhilarating.
But you were aware that it wouldn't last.
So, for as long as possible, you leaned your back against his torso, allowing his fingers to gently entwine with yours, taking a sip of your drink and attempting to act as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening.
It was a bit thrilling, actually. A risk of being caught, reminiscent of the night of New Year’s Eve.
However, this time the event was much grander, with more important managers in attendance, making it crucial for you both to keep a low profile. Yet, your mind veered in a different direction.
Subtly, you allowed your lower back to nestle more into William's body, bringing his groin in contact with your buttock, and you sensed his slight reaction in your hand, a light tug on your fingers. And for a few more minutes, the two of you lingered in this position, doing your best to absorb the heartfelt speeches while growing increasingly intrigued by each other’s touch.
You only disentangled your hands when the crowd erupted in applause, and both of you had to take a small step away as the room filled with light once again.
However, the separation didn't last long. Instead, William quickly leaned in and whispered in your ear, "Meet me by the wardrobe."
And you couldn't help but chuckle as he walked away, buttoning his blazer and attempting to act like he was heading to the men's room.
Then after waiting a few minutes to avoid being too conspicuous, you too slowly made your way from the crowd and out to the hallway leading down to the wardrobe.
It was effortless to maintain the facade, yet as soon as you spotted William almost concealed in the corner, a slight tinge of nervousness mixed with excitement surged through you. And it didn't take long before both of you found refuge among the numerous coats.
Your lips met as your arms enveloped each other, sinking into the much-needed desire. However, you had to pull back for just a moment, catching your breath.
"Wait, what if someone walks in?" you asked with a soft whisper.
"No one's going to come in here," William reassured you with a cheeky smile, before trying to lean in again, but you avoided him.
"What about the host who's in charge of the closet?"
And William knew he had to rethink his plan as he hadn’t thought of the staff.
"Hmm, well, I guess we'll just have to be quick then."
But you couldn't contain your amusement as you and William stood there, resembling teenagers trying to hide from their parents.
“Willy… I think we both know you can’t be that quick,” you chuckled lightly, and William joined in. However, as you relished the soft moment of intimacy, someone suddenly walked in, prompting William to pull you closer in an attempt to hide between the fabrics. And surprisingly, it seemed to work.
Standing in close proximity, your bodies fully touching with William's arms around you for support, you both kept quiet to avoid being heard. And several minutes passed, as you wondered why the person wasn't leaving. However, your attention was suddenly diverted.
“Willy,” you whispered. “What are you doing?”
"Nothing..." he replied nonchalantly.
"A part of you is doing something..."
You maintained a hushed tone, but it became slightly challenging to keep a poker face as you felt William’s member slowly growing in his dress trousers.
"Oh, yeah… I kind of don’t have control over that..." he chuckled lightly. “What? It’s not my fault you look so amazing… and knowing you don’t wear any underwear just turns me on even more.”
As he lingered on the fact that you were completely bare under that well-fitted dress, he could feel his length growing even firmer.
“Let me try and turn around…”
Gently manoeuvring between the coats, you positioned yourself back to chest with William, his arms still wrapped around you to keep you steady.
“Y/n… that’s worse,” he chuckled in a deep whisper, and you had to stifle a laugh with a hand over your mouth.
With the bulge in his trousers pressing against you, and the mutual arousal escalating between your legs, both of you yearned for something more than just secret kisses in the dark.
And just as you heard more footsteps and voices, you attempted to take a step back into hiding. The voices lingered in the hall, and instead of leaving, they simply continued chatting, and you could sense that William was getting into a teasing mood.
You felt his hand on your lower tummy slowly sliding downwards, finding the slit of your dress, sneaking underneath, and carefully discovering your core.
“Willy… what are you doing?” you whispered, attempting to remain composed, but you had a feeling it was of no use.
“Can’t wait, babe… I want you now.”
His voice was dark, even under a deep breath and a whisper, and you couldn’t help but sink into his touch as his fingers very slowly traced up your folds.
Soft moans were about to escape your lips as you felt his fingers gently circling your clit under the fabric of your dress, but you forced yourself to hold them back, not wanting to give away your position.
“Good girl,” William praised you under his devilish touch, well aware of how he was teasing you, pushing you to your limits.
It was a different kind of turn-on you both felt. The longing and need for each other and a sexual release, mixed with the danger of being caught at any time.
And as William’s fingers slowly rubbed between your folds, drawing down to your entrance before gently pressing two fingers into your warmth, you again held your palm over your mouth to conceal any sounds escaping from you.
You could almost feel his smirk behind you as he carefully stimulated your walls, making you feel the slow build-up of pleasure within you. However, you knew you didn’t have time for too much foreplay. While you could likely rely on Auston to create a cover story for you, the absence of both you and William from the event would surely be noticed.
And seemingly sharing the same thought, William continued his efforts.
Working his thick digits in your core for a few more pumps, William ensured you were wet and ready for him, as this was undoubtedly going to be a quick encounter. After withdrawing his fingers, he then unbuckled his belt, unzipped, and pulled down his trousers and boxers just enough to let his hard member out.
Dragging your long dress up, he exposed your bare ass for him, and gently spread your legs a little, attempting to align his cock with your entrance.
It wasn't easy, especially since you didn’t have anything to grab onto to stabilise yourself except for coats on hangers. But it would have to do.
And as you felt the tip of William’s length poking your entrance, you had to inhale sharply and hold back the impending moan as he slowly filled you up. Your hands tightly gripped onto the nearby fabric, your teeth biting down on your lip as you felt him stretching you.
It was almost too much, but it also felt incredibly good.
William held his one arm around you to keep you close and steady, while his other hand gripped onto your hip as he guided himself slowly in and out of your warmth.
“Shit, baby… this is so fucking hot… you’re so tight, for me” he moaned deeply into your ear, thrusting his hips, his shaft covered by your juices as he stimulated your walls. “Fuck…”
You panted deeply as his curved cock ensured to hit your most sensitive spot, almost sweating from holding back your noises. And you soon felt the familiar knot in your abdomen as pleasure coursed through your body, and your mind began to fog.
“Willy,” you breathed in a deep whisper. “Please.”
A soft whimper escaped your lips as you focused on keeping still and steady. However, as William’s movements grew a little faster and harder, despite the lack of space, it became almost impossible for you to stay quiet.
“Yes, baby… I’m gonna come soon…” you heard him moan behind you, as he was just a few more thrusts away from letting himself surrender to the pleasure.
However, lacking the strength to hold back and wait for him, you let out a low cry. “Willy… I’m coming…”
Then feeling the clenching of your walls around his cock, William too was about to burst.
“That’s it, baby… cum all over my fucking cock.”
The whole world outside your little cocoon seemed to vanish as ecstasy filled your mind, your fists clenching onto the coats as you let yourself go, evidence of your climax dripping down from your cunt.
And William followed suit, letting out a deep grunt into your hair, careful not to make it too loud, as he spilled into your warmth.
It was probably the fastest William had ever reached climax, especially given the slow movements instead of a faster and rougher pace. Nonetheless, the entire night had been enough foreplay for both of you. Keeping eyes on each other and pondering sexual thoughts of what you’d do with each other had been enough to have you both riled up and on the verge of peaks at all times.
Remaining inside you for a few more seconds, William caught his breath and slowly returned to reality.
“Fuck, baby…”
“Yeah… Willy,” you let out a soft chuckle, still feeling your muscles pulsating around his shaft before he gently pulled himself out.
You were both completely warm and almost sweaty. Letting go of the coats, you turned around in William’s embrace and smiled up at him.
“I can’t believe we just did this… here,” you chuckled, William joining in as he pulled up his boxers and buckled his belt again.
“Me neither… but it was fucking hot.”
“Yeah, guess now we just have to go back – try and act as casual as we can.”
And trying to return as something that didn’t look like you'd just had sex in a closet was not as easy as expected. But with light chuckles and a swift escape to the restrooms, you both managed to seem somewhat composed again.
“Seriously?” Auston grinned as the two of you returned to the event, most of the guys standing by the piano where Woll was playing sweet melodies. “You could at least try and keep it together.”
“Oh, like you would’ve,” William chuckled darkly, his eyes gleaming from the pleasure he’d just experienced.
“Probably not,” Auston laughed.
And before you knew it, it almost seemed as if you hadn’t snuck away to have sex in the wardrobe. Again, you had to act as friendly colleagues at a distance. However, this time, a pleasurable tingling remained throughout the night, reminding you of the intimacy you shared with William.
That was until he took you home, and this time, he didn’t hold back on noises or pace.

A Hi Nay Podcast Year - 2023
Tumblr media
At the beginning of 2023, I got a planner that said it'll be a "Great" Year. I had to cover it up - because the last time I had a planner claiming the year would be great... it was 2020. So I covered it with one of our stickers, making it read "It'll Be A Hi Nay Podcast Year". And it was!
Here were some Highlights for what was an absolutely jam-packed HI NAY YEAR!
Tumblr media
The Hi Nay Fundraiser
Though we didn't get to our full goal, we did get to our initial goal to keep the show going! We also got absolutely unbelievable support that we still don't know if we deserve, but we're grateful for nonetheless. Because of this fundraiser, we were able to provide honoraria to our performers and editors, as well as get to work on Act 3 of Hi Nay, which has grown much bigger than anticipated. Special thanks to Jesse Goodsell and Malaya, our top donors!
We also wanna thank our amazing P atreon supporters, who ensure we keep this show going until its planned ending!
Interviews
Tumblr media
We were able to chat with so many amazing people this year! Here's some of the shows that had Motzie on to chat about Hi Nay, horror, Filipino stories, and podcasting.
Radio Drama Revival
IndieAF Special: International Women’s Day
Ep. 387 - Motzie Dapul — Spooked!
The Skull Sessions - Hi Nay (Hello From The Hallowoods)
Conventions!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because of the wonderful people over at the Canadian Podcast Awards, we were able to briefly table at TORONTO COMICON and FAN EXPO, and were able to have our very first live show at Fan Expo, all without paying a dime! Huge shoutout to the Canadian Podcast Awards for giving us indies the opportunity to do something so amazing!
The Podcast Awards!
Tumblr media
We got nominated in two categories: Fiction and Best Asian Hosted, and it was amazing! Fiction was tough since there were so many amazing titles, but in Best Asian Hosted we were just happy to lose to one of our favourite people in the audio/video medium - Sapphire Sandalo.
How is this list not done yet OH RIGHT
The Rusty Quill Network!
Tumblr media
It was truly life-changing to join RQ, given that the Magnus Archives is the reason Hi Nay exists, though we like to think our story has formed its own unique identity beyond our inspiration. Still, we're genuinely grateful and excited to do more with RQ and the other absolutely amazing shows in the network in 2024! Even before this, Motzie got to interview the Rusty Quill folks for Storytelling Podcast Week and befriended the wonderful Helen Gould. And most recently, the fantastic Alasdair Stuart agreed to voice one of our most beloved new characters - Detective Dooley - for our Pride Episode. Alasdair is a gem, and we're happy and grateful to have him on.
There's so much more to cover and we can't put it all in one post, but we'd like to reiterate:
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE SUPPORT! We truly want Hi Nay to grow as a podcast without losing what makes it special, and it's all thanks to you listeners that we're able to do that.
-
Before we go, we'd like to mention the following:
CareForGaza is a non-profit charity in aid of helping the needy families of Palestine. If you're able to help them and their cause, it would make a huge difference! Gaza eSims is a campaign to help people in Gaza to get connected to family as well as facilitate important communication for medical aid, etc. Since Tumblr hides posts with l inks, you can google them and find more information.
And as always - thank you, we love you, and Manigong Bagong Taon. Happy 2024 everyone.

The host of this podcast usually does deep dives on cults and narcissism. Self admittedly, he has covered Meghan in the past few months because there is an audience for this and because he sees a lot of similarities in her behavior and the people he covers (for eg., Scientologists)
The guest on this episode is Vanessa Grigoriadis. She wrote the Vanity fair article on Mm in Dec 2018. At that time, this was one of the first, very critical cover on MM and her personality and the many discrepancies in her story that was done by a mainstream media ie., Vanity Fair.
That article was very long, detailed and it was obvious that Vanessa had spoken to some very credible sources and spent a lot of time picking through Meghan's story at a time when no one wanted to question or call out Harry and Meghan.
The videos below is a balanced, logical take from 2 people who did not outright dislike her but observed her behavior, listened to people who had encounters with her, worked with her and knew her best and they formed an opinion from everything they saw. And who are credible in terms of their reputation and sources.
In this episode, Vanessa goes on to talk about many of the same topics she covered back then- the family Dynamics, Tom sr, Sam markle, Meghan's schooling, uni and finances. Tom's sociopathy, Sam's weirdness etc. Mainly she says -
1. Meghan has consistently been changing her story and she is dumb enough to think noone will notice.
2. Meghan and Trevor were well known on the middle tier Hollywood/LA circles because she was constantly networking, connecting with higher ups, seen at parties and the right kind of hang out places (not expensive ones, just the ones with the right social circles).
3. Meghan's Toronto circle was notorious and it wasn't a surprise she netwroked herself into that.
4. She isn't a great talent but a great networker. She worked herself into Soho circles and the Toronto money circles.
5. She makes superficial connections. As in, she will make sure you have a great time but at the end of the day no one gets to know the real her. People from way back who spent a lot of time with her still don't get past the facade of her. She is calculating that way.
6. The money deals - Netflix, Spotify, book are calculated money making schemes and that it has nothing to do with their real grievances or mental health.
7. Her family is weird. And it's no wonder she is like this. Tom Sr. Is similar, noone really knows what is in his head or why he is making such a show of his hurt. To Vanessa it seems calculated and deliberate.
8. Same for Sam markle. That she is smart and very articulate but wasn't so close to Meghan. So, to Vanessa it's strange even after talking to her why she needs so desperately to be included in the wedding and then went on to create so much chaos. Like her actions don't gel well with her real personality which isn't so tacky.
9. There's an weird calligraphy story where Meghan once went to an influencer event in LA and asked the journalist interviewing her to hire her (Meghan) as a wedding calligrapher. When she didn't (because she didn't know Meghan and wasn't interested), and met Meghan a few years later at another big event, Meghan went to her and first thing she asked was why she didn't hire her even though mm have her contact details. Lol ... Vanessa's friend was shocked and cringed out. Vanessa says that's the kind of over the top, forceful person meghan is and she makes a lot of people uncomfortable by acting that way.
10. She didn't get along very well with her suits cast and looked down upon them. They did not like her.
11. She is not the kind of person you can be friends with.
12. She doesn't call Meghan a psychopath but someone who is smart, calculating and deliberate in the way she operates. The host Andrew has called MM a narcissist in earlier episodes and dislikes Harry profoundly.
13. Vanessa calls Meghan a typical LA Hollywood middle class product who is grasping for relevance and rewriting her story to fit her own narrative.
14. Vanessa says Meghan didn't have to reinvent herself but she is so controlling of everything in her life (all her life) that she just had to do it. And she considers herself above everyone. If she had controlled her parents by bringing them both down to UK before wedding then this whole shit could have been avoided.
15. Meghan probably knew her dad is already like this, that her family would take advantage of her rise in social status because Meghan is also like that. And that the best way was to sweeten Tom by situating him UK and keeping him on the good sode. Then both parents could have effectively kept the other friends get relatives from bad mouthing her from the onset.

Behold, the king of online cartoons
Ex-Hanna-Barbera whiz Fred Seibert blazing a trail with YouTube network
A couple of times over the years, then-USA Today’s entertainment and tech reporter (and photographer) Jefferson Graham was nice enough to feature me in an article about the cartoons I was producing. First time was in the late 90s with “Oh Yeah! Cartoons,” but in 2015, with streaming video finally reaching the mainstream press (Channel Frederator actually started in 2005) and Graham’s animator son joining our network, he revisited.
Thanks to animator Michael Hilliger, who sent over his copy of the article in 2024.
By Jefferson Graham USA Today July 17, 2015
LOS ANGELES — Fred Seibert wants you to have his card.
And his phone number. He even won't mind if we print his [email protected] e-mail address right here in USA TODAY.
Seibert, 63 is the online toon king, with 400 million views monthly to his Channel Frederator network on YouTube, but he's never sure where his next hit will come from.
So he's always out there looking, at schools, industry gatherings, book signings. You name it.
Next weekend, he'll be at the Vidcon convention near Los Angeles, a gathering of folks who make their living off YouTube, which is where most folks see his online `toons.
"I have no ideas," he says. "But I recognize talent."
That's for sure. Seibert, then president of Hanna-Barbera's cartoon studios in the 1990s, is credited with discovering Seth MacFarlane, the creator of the Family Guy, fresh from college, when he hired him to work on Hanna-Barbera cartoons.
For Seibert's "What a Cartoon!" series for the Cartoon Network, Seibert hit ratings gold, signing up the creators who churned out hits like "The Powerpuff Girls," "Dexter's Laboratory" and "Johnny Bravo." Their series debuted as shorts for first for Seibert's series.
He still serves as executive producer of "The Fairly OddParents," a TV series he began producing in 1998 when it debuted on his "Oh Yeah, Cartoons," series. It's been running ever since on Nickelodeon.
Seibert's biggest audiences, however, have come from online, to the tune of some 1.9 billion views for 'toons like the Bee and PuppyCat and Bravest Warriors.
We had Seibert as a guest on our #TalkingTech podcast in June. At the time, he was averaging 300 million monthly viewers to the Channel Frederator network. Now he's already up to 400 million monthly viewers, and predicts he'll top 700 million by year's end, and 1 billion by 2016.
The reason for the massive growth is that unlike before, when animation was targeted just to young kids, either for Saturday morning TV, and kid-based cartoon TV channels, anyone of all ages can view `toons online.
Seibert's Cartoon Hangover, a Frederator section where he shows the best of his `toons, bills itself as the channel for "cartoons that are too weird, wild, and crazy for television."
“Bee and PuppyCat,” about a young woman with a hybrid dog-cat, is written by Natasha Allegri, a woman in her 20s, about a character in her 20s, and thus, obviously not targeted to the traditional animation crowd.
"No matter what your interest online — whether it be anime, or science fiction or comedy cartoons, there is a place for you," Seibert says. "TV has a tough time supporting the sub-genres. Online is all about sub-genre."
Channel Frederator is what's known as a multi-channel network. Cartoons run on YouTube, but his network promotes them, sells ads and distributes the proceeds to some 2,000 of his video makers.
Through Frederator, the channel makers learn about which color to make their thumbnails to find larger YouTube audiences (he recommends yellow) and which keywords to use in the descriptions ("funny" always works, he says.)
"We give them the tools to grow their performance," he says.
Dominic Panganiban, a 24-year-old animator from Toronto, joined the Frederator network in November, and has seen his subscriber base grow ten times since.
He had been working with Full Screen, another multi-channel network that works with YouTube creators to help them monetize their videos and attract larger audiences.
"Frederator was a better fit, because they cater more towards animation channels," Panganiban says. Because Frederator attracts folks who enjoy cartoons, "I have more potential here."
By being part of the Frederator network, Australian animator Sam Green says he's learned about how to better promote his cartoons, and gotten access to a database of free music and sound effects to use in his cartoons.
He too has seen a spike in traffic.
Being with Seibert "helped me move from my mother's garage to affording my own apartment in the big city," he says.
How did the traffic for both creators go up so dramatically?
Seibert promoted the cartoons to his audience. With 2,000 cartoon makers, that's a lot to choose from. He says he'll plug as many of them as "show an interest" to growing their audience. He looks for people who post new work regularly, stay in touch, and ask "what we can do to help them more."
And despite the massive online audience, Seibert isn't making money yet, and doesn't think he will for another three years.
"Our cartoons are 3-4 minutes long, and the average American watches 6 hours of TV a day," he says. "We have a long way to go to even that out."

Hello, Drewds! The Drew Crew actors have all been active this week, a very rare occurrence. The most recent is this morning we got this fabulous photo from Amanda Row, director of many classic Nancy Drew episodes (e.g. Burning Bride, Uninvited Guest, S2 finale) and both the S4 premiere and finale. She was out last night with none other than Alex Saxon AND RJ Hatanaka.
Tumblr media
Love seeing these people back together - and extra points for Alex sporting a classic Ace snapback. How amazing would it be if we got to see Alex and RJ together in something directed by Amanda? Ace and Tamura did have the best scenes together. A person can dream…
Meanwhile, we caught our first glimpse of Tunji in the “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” trailer. He looks (and sounds) so amazing in period garb.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sadly it appears from IMDB that he’s only in the first episode - hopefully we’ll see more added as we get closer. No matter what really looking forward to seeing him on my screen again come May 4!
Onto the women of Nancy Drew. Kennedy, who we’re waiting to hear if her backdoor pilot The Good Lawyer was picked up for the fall, gifted us with a duet to Taylor’s “Invisible String” on TikTok. I’ve only listened to it fifty or so times. More please, Kennedy!
Speaking of pilots AND singing, Leah similarly has her own pilot (a Matlock reboot), which started filming on Monday in Toronto. Really hope this one gets picked up - I want to see Leah sparring with the brilliant Kathy Bates. Network TV has room for both of our favs as up and coming lawyers!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leah has also been singing for us in her spare time in her IG stories this week, her voice is sick. Maybe a Nancy and George duet could be arranged? In the meantime you can envision them putting on an entire musical in my Nancy Drew AU fic No One Mourns the Wicked!
Last but definitely not least, Maddison has been out and about in Vancouver and around B.C., taking some fabulous photos, baking, and visiting her friend who’s building a house. She also mentioned on IG she’d be traveling back to England soon to visit family and enjoy British comfort foods. Hope she has a great time, and that we get to see her on our screens again soon in something new!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Craving Nancy Drew S4, but glad to see what our favorite crew members are up to in the meantime.

Hockey-Ella Morgan Rielly x OC
Arabella Kerfoot is the younger sister of Alex Kerfoot and she one of the only female hockey player in the league. Ella as she likes to go by is the wild child of the family and also of the Pittsburgh Penguins. With a reputation of the "Wild Cinderella" Ella is the media's #1 target. Her best friend is Tyler Seguin, who had a bad reputation in Boston before going to Texas, so he understands her better then her own family and is trying to help work through her rebellious reputation. After a wild and not so pretty night out on the town Ella is quickly not the favorite anymore in Pitt and is soon traded to Toronto who is looking for a power forward with the speed and risky skill set she brings to the table. The catch: they need to fix her tarnished reputation before the Toronto media tears her apart. The solution: have her fake a relationship with Morgan Rielly to show she is determined to settle down and leave her wild Cinderella life behind, and make a fairytale lifestyle in Toronto instead. Only Ella wasn't planning on falling for the red haired man who offered the solution to her problems. With the media and her brother breathing down her neck to fix her past, her best friend telling her that a fake relationship will only hurt her and the man she never new she needed in front of her, she is about to ether live out a Hockey-Ella fairytale or an ultimate disaster.

Barry Hertz’s article reproduced below:
There is a strong case to be made that Norman Jewison was the most important Canadian filmmaker to never make Canadian films.
A child of Toronto but a creature of Hollywood, Jewison, who died Saturday at the age of 97, built his directorial career outside his beloved home country from almost the very beginning. A stint at the BBC in London turned into a few years at the CBC, which led to gigs inside American network television, which in turn allowed him to wriggle himself inside, and then more or less conquer, the studio system.
Did Jewison consider himself “Canadian” as he made every kind of film under the L.A. sun?
In 24 features produced across five rollicking decades of industry excess, was there some kind of homegrown thread that could connect everything from a fizzy heist flick (1968′s The Thomas Crown Affair) to go-for-broke musicals (1971′s Fiddler on the Roof, 1973′s Jesus Christ Superstar) to a stirring legal drama (1979′s ... And Justice for All) to a screwball rom-com (1987′s Moonstruck)?

Perhaps the answer can be found in Jewison’s intense commitment to social justice – his unshakable belief that filmmaking not only had the power but also the duty to change the way that we see our world, and each other. That is as admirably progressive a Canadian value as anything, and can be felt powering Jewison’s most searing productions, including 1967′s In the Heat of the Night, 1984′s A Soldier’s Story, 1999′s The Hurricane, and even, in its own way, his wild 1966 farce The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming!

But despite setting one film in Montreal (1985′s Jane Fonda convent drama Agnes of God) and half of another in Toronto (The Hurricane), Jewison never made the Great Canadian Film. Not that he didn’t want to.

“I wish I could have made a statement about Canada vs. the U.S., and Canada vs. the rest of the world. I would have loved to do it. But I never found a story that I believed I could make into an exciting motion picture,” Jewison told The Globe and Mail in 2016. “If you set out to make a big statement about Canada, you’re going to fail!”

While Canadian filmmakers – both Jewison’s contemporaries and those who followed him decades afterward – might disagree with such a statement, one thing becomes clear when considering the director’s improbable, eclectic and essential canon: Norman Jewison never, ever wanted to fail. While he may have stumbled here and there, disaster was flirted with more than tolerated. If there is one through-line to Jewison’s films, it is the fierce commitment to the belief that a good story told in a highly entertaining fashion – slick, precise, sincere – is the very best way to win hearts and minds. Give it your all, and audiences will respond in kind.

Sometimes this worked out better in theory than practice – few contemporary moviegoers will find much to revisit in 1982′s Best Friends, 1994′s Only You or 1996′s Bogus – but when Jewison was able to line up his passions and resources just so, it resulted in a kind of beautiful cinematic alchemy. He wrung tremendous performances from Hollywood legends (Steve McQueen, Sidney Poitier, Al Pacino), uncovered new layers in superstars who audiences thought they already knew inside out (Cher), minted new stars (Nicolas Cage, Denzel Washington), and made it all seem so deceptively easy.

Even Jewison’s missteps contained such endlessly fascinating elements – the distressingly prescient corporate satire of Rollerball, the labour politics of F.I.S.T., the lingering political ambiguity of what would be his final film, The Statement – that they all demand attention and reassessment. Jewison was a relentlessly committed craftsman who worked in the service of the audience. He was Canada’s ultimate showman, even if he didn’t believe he could ever show Canada to the rest of the world.
Not to say that Jewison ever forgot where he came from, either.
As founder of the Canadian Film Centre, a charitable organization that has helped train 1,900-plus filmmakers, writers and performers since its inception in 1988, Jewison played an integral role in building up this country’s screens sector. It was a community that Jewison himself never relied upon to build his own career – but only because it was a community that simply did not exist at the time.

And what is more Canadian than helping others, even if you were never given the same opportunity yourself?

Loved reading your lore so thank you for the tag!! @sportsthoughts
I spent waaaay too much time writing this but once I started I felt like I couldn’t stop lmao, so I’m applauding anyone that gets through it!
The story of how I ended up where I am today is a long and winding road lmao. But I think I should start by prefacing with the fact that hockey has been a part of my life since I was born essentially. There are pictures of me on a pair of skates at around age 2 when my dad first tried to teach me! Then I played consistently from age 6 to 14 but quit when they wanted me to leave the “girls” team and play with the women because I was intimidated haha. Besides playing myself I’ve also spent many hours with my dad on the couch watching Sweden play in any and all kinds of tournaments, worlds, Olympics you name it, and since he never really rooted for any other team in Sweden or outside of it I just kind of slowly fell into that same thing. I knew there was a hockey league overseas that a lot of our own players were shipped off to but I never really had any interest in rooting for a team that wasn’t team Sweden at the time.
In the winter of 2014, I was at the ripe age of 15 and I did not play hockey anymore nor did I care about any teams really, but two of my best friends at the time became OBSESSED with this one junior player and kept talking about him. This man was none other than Thee Mr Willy Nylander himself. This led to the three of us obsessing over him and we watched him play in the world juniors over our winter break. It got to the point of us picking fights with people on twitter that said he was a bad player and really anyone that said anything negative about our Swedish players hahaha. We had a group chat named after him and everything. We eventually lost interest and forgot about him but this story is important because it comes back later.
Flash forward to May 2023! Before I entered my hockey era again I had an eight month long absolutely crushing obsession with the TV show 9-1-1 that was airing on Fox at the time (ABC now thank god, I still keep track) that came to a screeching halt when the season 6 finale aired and I hated it. I swore up and down that I was never ever going to watch that show again and now that the one thing I had been so fixated on for so long was gone I did not know what to do with myself. Which sounds so dramatic but honestly sometimes I don’t know who I am if I have nothing to obsess over. So naturally I needed entertainment and as I looked up through the haze of firefighters and network drama I found that the 2023 IIHF World Championship in Tampere and Riga was on! And I had no choice! There was hockey to be watched and I sure did watch it. Now, it did not go too well for the Swedish team last year, which is okay. But one thing that happened was the constant debate on wether Willy Nylander was going to join in. His brother was there and his teammate Timothy Liljegren also joined in. But there was no word on Willy himself. And it was all they talked about. He obviously did not end up joining but all the talk had made me nostalgic. And naturally I had to revisit the old object of obsession and see how he was doing over the Atlantic and turns out he was doing quite well indeed. And because I am a sucker for team dynamics and narratives (who could ever believe I studied film for five years) I desperately clung onto the Toronto Maple Leafs like my life depended on it. What I didn’t know was that these were also transformative times, and once I’d gotten into the team and the organization, I was bewildered when Kyle Dubas all of a sudden was going to another team??? How could that be?? The Penguins?? And that’s when I found my way to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the power of Dubas’ cardigans and Sidney Crosby’s fat ass gripped me and now I split my time between my equally cursed teams like they’re my divorced parents. And here we are.
Naturally there are a lot of nuances left out of here, I’ve covered the key points but I think that there are probably so many reasons that it was the perfect time for me to get into hockey again and here we are almost a year later and there’s no going back now!! I’m stuck here forever. And I would not have it any other way <3
This is the end of ramblings and I’ll say if there’s anything I love more than hockey, it’s being dramatic, and also I didn’t spell check this at all so if it’s not perfect I’m sorry (I’d love to blame it on English not being my first language but it’s the only subject I’ve always had straight A’s in so it’s not really applicable it’s just me being lazy)
