Does Odessen Have a Living Room? It's Time for a Family Meeting...
Summary: Bel doesn't ask for favours. It's not something he does. Ever. If he cannot take what he wants for himself, then he's only asking for trouble, owing someone later to get that. Sometimes though, you get the chance to take something small for yourself, against a galaxy that is always asking for sacrifice and loss. Sometimes the debt being owed is worth the chance to have that one thing for yourself.
Perhaps the scales have balanced enough, perhaps he's sacrificed enough to have something selfish. It won't be easy, it never is, especially not when he's long since given up on managing to keep anything personal and sacred. Or maybe it's just going to take other people taking it for him, and making sure he has his own little piece of happiness. If that's the case, then he'll just have to make sure whatever debts they owe for doing him such a kindness get paid in full.
I’ve finally gotten around to posting the fic where Bel’s family shows up on Odessen, so the Prologue and Chapter 1 are now up and can be found on my ao3 Henriwrites or here! May post the prologue as a teaser here tomorrow

Is there probably a canon way that Theron gets a hold of the Outlander’s ship? Yeah. Do I remember it? No. So my personal headcanon is that Bel’s crew tried to keep it between them until about two years or so into the war with the Eternal Empire when Vector returned to the hive, and Lokin finally had to go to ground. I think Lokin would have cleared out the ship for the most part, and then handed it over to Theron for safe keeping, because it’s Lokin, and he absolutely knew Lana and Theron were going after Bel. More importantly, in my personal headcanon, Bel sent Gertrude, his service akk dog, back to the Phantom when he realized he might not be coming back from Marr’s flagship, so now Theron has her to contend with. Anyways, consider this a part of the whole fic I suppose I’ll eventually write, set sometime after all that, and before they get Bel out of carbonite. Under the cut bc I’m a wordy bish
There was thumping somewhere in the ship and Theron cursed under his breath, hand going to his blaster instinctively. Silence reigned for a long moment, then another thump, and then claws scrabbling.
Right. Gertrude. Of course. Theron relaxed a little, made sure the ship was on autopilot and then turned to go tromping down the hallway. "What? I fed you, I tried to pet you, I gave you treats while trying to pet you. What else do you want?"
She barked at him. Loudly, from further in the ship. And then continued barking as he found her.
"Okay! Got it! What do you want?"
She was looking at him with absolute derision. Which was not surprising. She'd barely tolerated him when he'd first met Belville on Manaan, and finally on Ziost she'd at least allowed him to touch Belville without looking like she was thinking about biting him.
They'd gone back to her occasionally looking at him like a snack. Which was probably fair.
She was standing at the door to Captain's quarters and Theron grimaced. "He's not in there. Sorry."
She gave him one more baleful look, and then continued scratching at the door. Theron turned to let her be when she gave the most pitiful whine he'd probably ever heard. He held still for a minute as the whining continued, and made a face as he finally turned back and palmed the panel. "Fine then, go-"
It was locked. Which he should have expected. And it was more ridiculous that he actually spent a half hour trying to get in, eventually ending up cross-legged on the floor, the entire control pad dismantled and surrounded by wires and bits of metal.
For a dog. He was doing this for a dog. And his own burning curiosity.
Gertrude hadn’t actually left, instead nosing her way into the mess but kept her muzzle well away from any live wires without needing the command, which was appreciated. She still didn’t seem that impressed with him, but Theron decided it was worth counting being in a shared space as a win for longer than five minutes as a win.
It hadn’t even crossed his mind to send Gertrude with Lokin, if he was to take Bel’s ship, it only made sense for her to stay with the ship. She’d meant too much to Belville for Theron to contemplate separating her from what remained of Bel. And then he’d had to spend a day with her, attempting to feed her, and find out she’d been trained to use a toilet. Which was...fascinating. And said a lot about Belville, really.
It was nearly an hour, and probably the longest Theron had taken to break into anything in a long time when the door finally slid open. Gertrude went scrambling into the room as he fell back, mostly without control to lay on the floor and groan. Cipher or not, no one could ever be allowed to know exactly how long it had taken him to crack Bel’s security.
Gertrude was making noise deeper in the room, snuffling around in the room and Theron sighed, slowly getting up and following her inside. “I know, I’m sorry, he’s not- oh.”
She had shoved herself into the closet, pulling down clothes and was currently turning circles in an amongst Bel’s clothes. He watched for a moment until she settled in, burying her nose into one of Bel’s sweaters and whining softly. Theron swallowed and shoved his hands in his pockets. “Ya. I know. I wish he were too.”
She whined once more and fell quiet and Theron let her be, scanning the room quietly.
It didn’t look like it had been entered since Bel’s disappearance. Or if it had been, someone had put it back together expertly, which seemed more likely, although he’d be forever annoyed if Lokin had gotten into Bel’s quarters faster than he had. But everything looked as  he remembered, when he’d caught a ride with Bel from Rishi to Yavin 4, although he probably could have paid more attention to the surroundings and less attention to the man that had been under him.
He took a seat on the bed for a lack of anything else to do, leaning forward to rest elbows to knees. The air was stale enough in the room that no one had been in it recently, and he couldn’t smell much more than that, but there was something oddly comforting about being in a space Bel had owned so thoroughly, and whatever smell remained on his clothes was clearly enough for Gertrude if Theron could be any judge of her snuffling.
A part of him wanted to begin rifling through Belville’s things, the part that had been SIS for so long. He doubted Bel had left any immediate intelligence simply sitting around, but there were things he could learn about the man from the things he had left behind. Some other part of him just wanted to look for pieces of the man that had left them all behind. Something that would feel a bit more real than the ghost they were chasing that he was hoping was a bit more substantial than it felt.
It wasn’t as though he didn’t believe Lana, and didn’t want to get Bel back, and didn’t trust that Bel had come back from worse. But it was beginning to feel a lot like they were looking to resurrect a pipedream. It would have been nicer to have Bel here now, probably very annoyed that his room had been broken into by SIS. Nicer to have someone who’d stepped up against impossible odds like this before at their side.
Really, it just would have been nice to just have him there, possibly get to see him one more time before the Eternal Empire wiped them all out.
If Lana was right, then it would be decently rude for Bel to come back and find out not only had his room been broken into, Theron had also gone rifling through his things. He kept his hands to himself. It was odd to think he’d only been in here once before, and even at that, Bel had kept him thoroughly distracted to prevent any snooping. Still, there was enough of the man left in the room it felt like he ought to walk back in a moment later. That presence wasn’t one that he could forget. Even if Bel himself pretended not to be aware of the effect he sometimes had on people.
He wanted to say he didn’t miss Bel, but that would have been a lie. It was stupid, considering they had both agreed they weren’t going to work, that they weren’t going to ask each other to do things that would endanger the other, to cross their boundaries to make it work. They had agreed not to even think about asking the other to betray everything the other stood for. He hadn’t wanted to ask Bel to step into danger for him, and Bel had been very clear that he didn’t want Theron attempting to protect him at his own expense, ever.
This could probably be considered a violation of what they’d agreed to. Facing off against the Eternal Empire to get him back was definitely endangering himself for Belville’s sake. But if they failed then Bel would never know, and if they did, then he could handle the lecture later. It was very much a case where Theron hoped he’d have to ask for forgiveness about it.
He’d give a lot of things to be able to ask Bel for forgiveness about this.
He jumped a little as Gertrude hopped up on the bed, one of Bel’s uniform shirts in her mouth. She circled for a moment or two, then unceremoniously shoved her head under his arm and into his lap. Theron huffed out a half-hearted laugh and scratched beneath the armoured ridges over her back. She settled down on his lap and rumbled happily.
“Ya, I know. I’ll get him back for you. Promise.”

Wanted to write a soft interlude between the much heavier moments that make up Belville and Theron’s canon storyline. Most of it’s under the cut if I formatted it right, but I thought it made a pretty good introduction to my agent and who he is anyhow. Realistically I’m just out here writing this shit for me and me alone lmfao. Anyway, carry on
It was odd, having someone to fall into bed with. Even if they didn’t spend nearly as much time together as Bel craved. He’d long since worked the need for physical contact out of his system, and then Theron had shown up, and thoroughly ruined that. His team, aside from Lokin and Scorpio, had all been casually physical, and he had enjoyed the little of that he got. But it was always left at that, and it had been a long time since Bel had had someone who wanted his touch the way he wanted theirs.
It was stranger still to have someone who would still give him his space without needing to be asked. Before Intelligence, he had been used to that, from well meaning family. But Theron did, and Bel only knew because he felt the bed shift as Theron sat, stripping down from the day. Gertrude shifted, nosing at Theron and he greeted her quietly. He didn’t roll over, just listened for a moment as Theron stood back up and went to the fresher, not bothering to turn the lights on and keeping the sink on low. There was enough shuffling to indicate he hadn't quite learned the layout of the Phantom yet, but Bel had been doing his best to try and spend his downtime inside the base and hadn’t expected him to. They couldn’t risk the Alliance thinking he wasn’t invested in the cause, or that he was ready to leave at any given moment. But the Phantom was...safer. Familiar. In a way Odessen wasn’t yet. Someday, maybe.
Theron joined him after a moment, but kept his back to Bel, and left space between them even in the small cot. He waited a moment longer until Theron had settled, and then rolled over, still leaving space between them. “You didn’t have to come out here.”
“I know.” Theron rolled onto his back, the blankets shifting with his movements. “Do you want me to go?”
“No.” He reached out and caught Theron around the waist, pulling him closer. There was hesitation, stiffness, and then Bel curled around him, head on Theron’s chest and one leg tossed over his waist. Theron’s arms went around him, shuffling them over a little until they were in a safer position on the bed. Gertrude grumbled at them, standing and circling again and pushing their legs closer together as she chose to take up as much space as possible and push them back towards the edge of the bed.
“Talk or sleep?”
“You need to sleep. It’s three in the morning, Theron. You were up at six yesterday.”
“You’re deflecting. I’ve gone a lot longer without sleep than that.”
He nodded a little and murmured a reassurance into Theron’s skin. “I’m aware.”
Theron left it at that, quiet, one hand rubbing up and down Bel’s spine gently. Bel followed his breath, matching Theron’s inhales and exhales with careful purpose. It was strangely soothing, with Theron between him and the door, his embrace protective and soft. “Go to sleep. I’m alright.”
Theron grumbled something into his hair that Bel couldn’t make out, but his breathing slowed, and he matched it until he fell into almost a meditative state and then to sleep.
He woke up to Theron shifting awkwardly, and hauled him in tighter. His internal clock caught up after a moment. “‘S only been four hours.”
“Ya. Have a meeting with Lana in a bit.”
“Tell her to reschedule.” He yanked a little, pulling Theron in close enough that he could roll on top of him and press his face into Theron’s neck. Theron made half a noise as he did, grunting at him but let him have his way. “She’ll do it if you tell her I asked.”
“That’s because you have her wrapped around your finger, Bel.” Theron relaxed beneath him, and Bel grinned, kissing at his neck gently. It only took a few moments before Theron was nearly melting under him and Bel nipped at a tender spot gently, searching with his mouth. Theron grabbed at him almost immediately, growling and Bel grinned, shifting upward to kiss him gently.
“What?”
“I am not going to meet Lana with hickies. I’ll never hear the end of it”
“Is that really your biggest concern? Somehow I don’t think she’ll be surprised...” He sat up slowly, stretching, and Theron joined him, sneaking in for another kiss as they rose. His optics were pressed into his hands gently and he engaged them, but flicked them up to rest in his hair. “Thank you.”
“Mhm. Still don’t mind if I use your stuff?”
“If I minded I would have said so by now. My clothes should fit you, don’t put on that pair you wore yesterday again, for goodness sake, Shan.”
Theron was uncharacteristically silent, and if Belville had counted his steps right, he was only in the doorway of the fresher. “Theron…”
“You...want me to wear your clothes?”
“I want you not to smell during our briefings. I have to stand next to you.”
He still hadn’t moved, and Belville moved him aside bodily so he could squeeze past. “About...that…”
“What?”
“I’ve already...put some clothes away in here. In case of emergencies.” Theron moved into the room slowly, joining Belville at the sink. It would have been nice to take a shower and revel in each other's company for a little while longer, but Bel hadn’t yet gotten out of the habit of quick, efficient routines, routines he could do away with at a moment's notice during emergencies. It seemed Theron had kept the same habits.
“Did you? When?”
“I- well actually I never took them out.”
“Never took them- explain.”
He could almost hear Theron flushing, and flipped his optics down so he could see it, grinning when Theron cleared his throat loudly and turned away. “After I got a hold of your ship it was...convenient. To use it for a base of operations.”
“You took over my ship.”
“I left everything where I found it!”
“That much was obvious.” He ran a comb through his hair quickly, sliding wax through the strands until it wasn’t going to get tangled in his implants. “I would have known. I didn’t notice that you left your clothes in my closet though, which was sloppy.”
“They’re...not in your closet. I put all my things in the crew quarters. I...never actually slept in here?”
“You- oh.” He caught Theron about the waist, reeled him in, and kissed him gently. “You can move your things in here now, if you want.”
“That sounds a lot like a promise that you won’t exfil without me.”
He paused for a moment, reaching up to play with Theron’s hair for a few long moments, fingers in the curls, memorizing the texture and twist. “I suppose it is. Although I feel I would have gotten a few angry messages if I ex-filed with your things without knowing it.”
“Probably a few.” Theron relaxed against him for a few moments, nuzzling up under Belville’s chin. “Sorry, should have told you sooner, but I guess I hoped if you planned to leave you’d give me a heads up.”
“I would have asked you to come with me. But I have no plans to leave. And I think Lana would drag me back by the scruff of the neck if I did.” He pressed a kiss down into Theron’s hair. “Did you think I would?”
“It crossed my mind. I wouldn’t blame you. If anyone deserves to disappear and retire, it’s you.” Theron pulled back a little, moving to take over the mirror again and brush his teeth.
Bel paused for a long moment, fists balling at his side. “I...won’t. I...apologize, for making you think that.”
“No, I-” Theron spit into the sink quickly and shook his head. “I’d be more concerned if you didn’t have contingencies in place if things went sideways. Nice to be included in them, though.”
“I shouldn’t be making you think I’m going to leave at all. Not after everything you’ve done to get us to this point, to get me out.” The flush had returned to Theron’s cheeks and Bel steeled himself a little, forcing himself to swallow the instinct to put up barriers between them. A part of him remembered what it had been like to be honest with people, when he’d been young, and he grabbed at it again, for the reminder. “You deserve my commitment to this.”
“After Revan...after all of this...I know you well enough to know you won’t leave when you’re needed.”
“You thought I was ready to leave, that’s why you came here last night.”
“You’re reading into that a bit much.” Theron was quiet for a moment, before moving to get his clothes from the crew quarters, trusting Bel to follow, and he did, leaning in the doorway as he watched Theron change, saving a brief moment for appreciation. “I know the instinct as well as you do. And it’s...comforting to know you haven’t lost it either. But I wanted to see if there was anything you needed from me. I don’t imagine any of this has been easy, and you’ve been putting on a pretty steady face about it all.”
“Would it surprise you to know that’s just how I deal with things?”
“Suppose not.” They both finished gearing up quickly, weapons and armor taking up a comforting, predictable weight. Gertrude stretched on the bed, yawning as Bel gave her the attention she deserved. She jumped down and stepped up to his side after thoroughly messing up the blankets, as comforting of a weight and presence as anything else. He would always depend on her more than anything or anyone else. “Speaking of last night…?”
“Security.”
“Got it. Do you want to go over the base specs and shifts?”
“No. Just needed a night somewhere familiar.” Theron offered his arm as they reached the ramp, the action almost natural as Bel threaded his hand into Theron’s elbow. “Thank you, though, for coming to find me. It was...nice, to have someone else there.”
“Anytime you need me. Come on, I’m three minutes late now, Lana’s going to have our heads.”

Name: Montym
Class: Consular, Consular - Serenity
Species: Mirialan
Age: Mid to Late 30s throughout class story and kotfe
Hair/Eye/Skin Colour: Black hair, Brown eyes, fern green skin, tattooed on chin, cheeks, hands, wrists, feet and ankles.
Gender: Nonbinary
Sexuality: Asexual
Love Interest (AU Dependent): Romantic-only Theron Shan, Qyzen Fess, Arcann Tirall, Belville, Beau
Family: None
Interesting Notes: Montym is in and out of kotfe storylines depending on the au, so if they never meets the others, they have a giant crush on their reptile bodyguard. I don’t make the rules. In romantic relationships, they’re willing to poly, which happens with Bel and Theron. Montym is a giant softie, and they and Qyzen initially have a bit of an odd understanding since Montym can usually be found covered in dirt trying to grow their own jungle, but is also more than willing to tear someone open with their teeth if forced into a corner. Montym is secretly about five seconds from going feral on a farm if Satele didn’t keep calling them to ask him to do things.

Name: Belville, previously Belville Abelard, commonly goes by Bel, also known as Cipher Nine and The Red Blade
Class: Imperial Agent, Sniper - Marksman
Species: Human - cyborg, HUD, communications, and slicing implants
Age: Early 30s during class story, Late 30s by Kotfe
Hair/Eye/Skin Colour: Platinum-silver hair, blue-white eyes, pale skin with a pink undertone
Gender: Cis male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Love Interest (AU Dependent): Shara Jenn, Lord Cytharat, Theron Shan, Arcann Tirall, Montym
Family: Corisande and Lisle are his mother and father, and he has an older sister, Ianthe, and a younger brother, Casper. All of them are alive by the time of kotfe and surprisingly normal.
Interesting Notes: Bel was born blind, and through surgeries and implants he can “see”, although it’s more of a HUD system where the data is sent directly to his brain, but he often relies on his Seeing Eye Akk Dog, Gertrude, as she was with him before Intelligence provided him with those implants. His implants can connect directly to the sight in his rifle. Bel’s family was never overly protective but he is A Middle Child which is partly why he Is The Way He Is

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Star Wars Legends: The Old Republic (Video Game) Rating: Mature Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Male Imperial Agent | Cipher Nine/Theron Shan Characters: Theron Shan, Male Imperial Agent | Cipher Nine, Belville Abelard (oc), mentions of Agent team, mentions of Lana Beniko, mentions of Satele Shan Additional Tags: Relationship Negotiation, Pre-Relationship, Star Wars: The Old Republic - Shadow of Revan Spoilers, Post Rish and Pre Yavin Interlude, Some discussion of sex and kinks within the larger narrative Summary:
Any relationship requires negotiation, a back and forth while each party gets to know each other. Usually, that happens subtly, but in the case of two spies, perhaps it's better expected that they wouldn't bother trying to pull the wool over each other's eyes. That would require much more effort, and time, and patience, than either an overloaded Cipher Agent and an exhausted SIS agent can be expected to have. For what shouldn't be more than a one-night stand, perhaps it's a bit more of a dialogue than Theron had expected, but Cipher Nine is nothing if not full of surprises. And admittedly, it might be the most enjoyable negotiation he's been a part of in a long time.
