Hey shutters, do you have any advice that you can share to impress a dev team so that they'll accept me as tester?
Hmm ive not been hired specifically for QA before (though I have had to test games anyway because when you work in indies you wear a lot of hats) so I'm not sure what I can tell you to get you hired, only what to expect from the job itself.
Video Game QA is fucking grueling and many companies are going to expect unreasonable work ethic from you that I will suggest you don't subject yourself to. I don't believe in crunch and QA is one of the crunchiest parts of an industry that runs on crunch lol.
But anyway, if you want to impress as a QA tester, don't talk up how good you are at breaking a game—every gamer with years of experience knows how to find a place to clip through a wall or abuse physics to fly—show off how meticulous you are in documentation. The more detailed you are with the hows, whys, and wheres when you encounter a bug or issue, the more helpful you will be to the programmer that has to fix it. A tester who becomes familiar enough with a game internally might even be able to figure out what's going wrong before the programmer has to figure it out (see: speedrunners figuring out the exact details behind glitches down to a science just so they can use them for speedrunning)
You're also going to be doing a ton of repetitive work (prepare to play the same parts over and over and over again until you can do it in your sleep) because you need to account for every possibility. There's a joke about a tester that walks into a bar and then tests it by ordering drinks, then too many drinks, then negative drinks, then a lizard, but when a customer walks in and asks where's the bathroom the whole thing crashes. Familiarity with software can lead you to miss testing totally reasonable user behavior, make sure that you don't and you try to account for everything.

My sister got an accounting degree, did audits for two years, got promoted a bunch of times, and got so tired of dealing with clients and their paperwork that she quit to become a jr software tester (for software that deals with Accounting Things. It's all a mystery to me so this is all I know about it) three months ago. My understanding is that she likes writing documentation and figuring out the logic of things and where they're fucked up, but she hates Clients, so this is working out great for her.
Also as a sidenote: Im a sr web developer. I work for a huge banking services company. The amount of people I encounter who work in tech and act like you're a wizard if you know how to do anything on excel is unreal. I turned a date in a format excel doesnt recognize to a date it does yesterday (by googling how to do each step) and did some math and conditional styling with it and my coworkers were so amazed we could show that to the manager??? When it's the same stuff they do every day with code???? (Also by googling each step lol. Dates are a nightmare always but also that's just how programming works in practice)
excel is SO funny
i made a joke once about intimidating non-CS majors with a random page of CSS and intimidating CS majors with a complicated spreadsheet but. it's also kind of not a joke. it's wild to me how many accountants AND computer science majors are intimidated by advanced excel functions.
when i have downtime i keep my payroll spreadsheet open with the developer window up because the sight of excel vba triggers a fight-or-flight response in everyone with sense

Women of Xal's Production Costs
Questions about production costs, the profit WoX has made, and the effectiveness of advertising are becoming quite common. So we came up with this overview! Hope this is entertaining to some of you. And hey, if you're considering an indie VN of your own, you can probably take some lessons from this on how to save money! 
This post will use very broad, rough monetary estimates. If you're interested in the more detailed cost breakdowns, let us know! I might make that our first official post on our website or something.  ~ Shald
Starting Money: 
This was essentially our first project as a studio, so we didn't have any income to begin with. We had to rely on both Kickstarter and our own full-time jobs for funding. 
Our Kickstarter campaign raised $13,360. After Kickstarter fees, our actual seed money for this project was roughly $12k to start! Anything past that 12k was paid for by the team out-of-pocket. 
Production Costs (Part 1):
Let's start with the good news! We were able to save a ton of money on certain aspects of the project by either doing them ourselves or trading assets for music commissions. The money we saved could then be redistributed to other areas. 
Music: $0  That's right, the soundtrack was free! John's a composer and did it all himself. Typically a soundtrack of this size and quality would be at LEAST a few thousand dollars. 
Beta Testing: $200 Our beta testers were friends from our Discord server who wanted to play the game early, but we still paid them what we could! And what they’d accept. u_u 
Writing: $300   90% of the game was written by John, and was therefore free. We paid a small fee to a couple writers for their assistance near the end of the project.
Graphic Design: $300   One of John's old friends was happy to do the graphic design for relatively cheap. 
CGs: $1,000 That’s right, we somehow got about 100 CGs for just around a thousand dollars. We traded music for art here as well. 
Programming: $2,000  We paid two staff for programming,, but saved extra money by having John and his girlfriend jump in themselves for the second half of development. 
Production Costs (Part 2):
These next items all cost about as much as we expected. 
Registration and Licensing: $99 Steam stuff. 
Vocalists: $1,500 Singers are rightfully expensive, yo. 
Equipment/Software Costs: $2,600  HitFilm was used for animating the backgrounds, creating trailer videos, adding subtitles to ingame cutscenes, modifying animation, etc. John also bought a few more digital instruments which he ended up using for the… unique music genres in this game.
Voice Acting: $5,000 VA’s are rightfully expensive, yo. Especially when two VAs later went on to hold pretty high-profile roles. I really hope they want to reprise their roles, but it’ll probably be the majority of next game’s budget.... lol  Anyway, we commissioned most of our VAs ages ago, so the prices weren’t actually as high as you might fear if you took a look at the cast list.
Production Costs (Part 3):
These items all cost more than expected for various reasons. 
Character Art: $8,000 Listen, we have hundreds of sprites in this game ok. If I’m counting right, we have ~50 unique character sprites and probably ~300 different expressions like happy, sad, etc. for various characters. Sure, minor expression changes are way cheaper than full sprites, but they ain’t free! We expected it to cost a lot; extra costs came in when we actually had to hire a second artist to cover for our main artist, who got *understandably* burned out from doing so much art for WoX over the development years.
Animation: $5,000 This was our second-biggest cost and paid off the least, honestly. We went through multiple animators who never delivered the animations we commissioned. Obviously we didn't pay for animations we never received, but the cost here is from test animations we did receive. See, we'd have each animator do a short test animation as part of their interview - to make sure they were comfortable with the characters and outfits. Even though it was part of their interview process, we obviously paid them for that work. 
Background Artists: $2,000 And this is another case where we had to hire multiple artists due to either not receiving the commissions we sent out or artist burnout. u_u
Total:
So that's a total cost of approximately $28k to produce WoX, $12k of which was paid for by the Kickstarter. Yeah, we underestimated how much the project was going to cost, but what else is new on Kickstarter? lol 
Post-production costs: 
We've spent the following amounts on advertising. 
- tumblr Blaze: $104.20 - Facebook: $100 - Twitter: $100
We do want to spend more on advertising, obviously, but we need to have money to put into it. Which is when we get to the final section...
Revenue:
Forgive my rough math here for a minute….
WoX sells for $20 on both Steam and itch.io. Steam takes a 30% cut, so every Steam sale makes approx. $14. itch.io takes a 10% cut, and people on there can choose to tip extra, but we'll still say that every itch.io sale makes ~$18. 
...Steam's backend is confusing me a lot right now because it's giving me three different numbers for how many units we've sold, but... I'll just, uh, guess which one is right.
As of May 15th, 2022, and since WoX's original beta launch in August 2021, we had sold:
206 Steam copies (-8 returns) 30 itch.io copies
For a rough total of $3,312, pre-tax. Steam also mentions we're averaging about $13 a day.
Now, you may see a lot more copies than that on the "market", and that's because we gave copies of the game to Kickstarter backers who pledged $10 or more. So far 331 Kickstarter backers have activated their copies of the game on Steam, I believe 7 did so through itch.io. So more than half of the copies currently in "circulation" were given out to people who originally helped fund the game.
In Conclusion:
So yeah, bottom line is that the game cost about $30,000 to make, we've spent $304.20 on advertising, and we've made about $3,000 back. So if we seem somewhat broke on the company tumblr sometimes, that's why! \o/ 
As a quick aside, we actually just ran a test sale of 15% off on Steam with absolutely NO advertising whatsoever, to see what sort of baseline numbers we might be able to expect from sales with no ads. Y’know, as an experiment! It went pretty well, but those numbers are not included in the above analysis.  If you read that entire thing, I am in awe of you.

There are many recent popular films on ‘Metaverse’: Everything Everywhere All at Once, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Free Guy.
Technology company WayRay promotes its new kind of 'human world' as this: humankind has long been fascinated with a different reality—a different plane of existence, a different identity and a new perspective. To interact with a different reality might have been a dream decades ago, but now it is as real as the phone you are holding today. The technology is now mature enough, and we can all reach into the ‘Metaverse’.
What exactly is a ‘Metaverse’? It was said, “The meta-verse ('Meta’ + ‘Universe') is a virtual ‘reality space’ on the internet where a user can create a ‘human identity’ to live, interact and play, as well as experience things that he could always do in the real world."  Metaverse will be another globe running parallel to and circumventing the existing world. The term came from a science fiction Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson in 1992 and the story depicted a virtual world on the internet that has buildings, roads, parks and shopping malls in which we could enjoy ‘a collateral life’.
It was pointed out Metaverse has 8 characteristics: (1) living under a virtual identity (2) getting along with new virtual ‘co-beings’ (3) instant and spontaneous movements by you commanding your extended identity in the virtual environment (4) an ‘as-if-real’ immersive experience in the virtual world (5) doing the great things which are humanly impossible for you to try in real life such as flying and roles transforming (6) the self-functioning economy of Metaverse by which you can become rich (7) vast supply of fascinating games and contents; and (8) co-building a ‘post-modern human civilization’.
Metaverse was made possible by scientific achievements. The advent of new technologies like 5G or 6G mobile network, Web 3.0, AI (Artificial Intelligence), VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality) and MR (Mixed Reality) solved many technical problems. The necessary equipment to operate Metaverse is expensive and includes special headset, personal computer, mobile phone, web, projection and kiosk. The ‘money’ transactions there involve innovative softwares like De-Fi (Decentralized Finance), IPFS (Inter-planetary File System) and NFT (Non-fungible Token). Mark Zuckerberg announced that ‘Meta’ (formerly known as Facebook) would soon file patent applications for a number of useful devices such as a pair of ultra-sensitive gloves to make 'Meta' bodily experience almost real. Can you afford all these?
Perhaps I am old, if not senile. The real world is already burdensome enough on a daily basis. My sure horror will come from the additional labour and toil associated with consuming a few hours per day on living in another artificial Metaverse. I get enough, if not more than enough, friends. Why should I meet more virtual people in the disguise of different identities and a lot of them may be crooks? I, nevertheless, envy the energetic ones who can handle two lives and two worlds.
I ask around to find out my friends’ interest on Metaverse. A said, “Communication technology simply makes people unnecessarily busy!” B said, “It’s cool! I want to be a powerful KOL or KOC in such a brave new world.” C said, “If I can make lots of money there, why not? I’m planning to buy some lands there.” D said, “I will be horrified when my 22-year-old girlfriend in Metaverse turns out to be an 80-years-old man!” E said, “Would it be lawful or immoral to attend a drug party in Metaverse?” F said, “How exciting it will be since I can hold a big concert there in the face of Michael Jackson?” G said, “I will transform myself into the most gorgeous girl there and attract loads of boyfriends!” H said, “I am afraid of sexual harassment. An English female beta tester was once groped by a stranger on Horizon Worlds!”
There is a famous philosophical story (莊周蝶夢)(Zhuang Zhou & Butterfly)of our ancient scholar Zhuangzi(莊子)(about 369 to 286 B.C.) that every Chinese knows. Zhuang dreamed that he was a butterfly.  He suddenly woke up and found he was still himself, solid and human. He was puzzled and left us with his great theory of Taoism. “Am I really a man that dreamed of being a butterfly or whether I am a butterfly dreaming as a man?” This great Chinese thinker tried to challenge what we took as real might be unreal and what was unreal might be real. Perhaps he was the first one who inspired us on virtual reality thousand years ago. The French philosopher R Descartes (1596-1650) said, “No certain indications by which we may clearly distinguish wakefulness from sleep.” The development of Metaverse as the popular ‘second reality’ will lead more people to pursue a hot debate: can young people in the 23rd century choose to live in a virtual world of butterflies and refuse to live in a human world?
The other amazing Chinese ancient fairy tale protagonist is ‘The Monkey King’. It is based on the ancient story Journey to the West(西遊記) about a famous monk Xuanzang (玄奘) (602-664) who travelled on foot from China to India for the authentic Buddhist scriptures, escorted by Monkey King(孫悟空). This monkey was clever and rebellious. He acquired an immortal life and could transform him into seventy-two different identities in different situations at the same time. Riding clouds in the sky as a vehicle (Monkey King today will probably use Internet as his vehicle), he was able to travel 108,000 miles by a single somersault to meet friends. Would the Metaverse users dream of being a butterfly or Monkey King which were all old prophecies of ‘virtual reality’.
Many predict that your digital existence will become more important than your physical life. In the Metaverse, your life is fascinating with all that you can enjoy. But on earth, you may be lonely and miserable. Virtual life may be joyful. A real life can be sad. Nevertheless, the more humans lose themselves in a non-existent world, the more Artificial Intelligence technology will control us in future. I do not want to live in the virtual world because it will not give me a nice haircut! Do you? Happiness boils down to simplicity.

Let's Talk: CSP v2 and Subscriptions
Alrighty, with all the commotion with Clip Studio Paint, here's the rundown from their terrible worded and overly complicated blog post:

Celsys Clip Studio Paint will be releasing V2 of their software, but they will also implement subscriptions for its feature updates.
V2.0 will be a one buy perpetual license like v1.x, but it will only be v 2.0. v2.1 and above you will have to pay a subscription in order to receive updates and keep those updates. Once you stop paying for the subscription, all the update you would have recommended before will be lost (and you will revert back to v 2.0) until you continue. your subscription. When v3.0 is released, it will be the same like v2.0. A one buy perpetual license, subscription for the updates.
So, if ya want v2.x features without subscriptions, you will have to wait til v3.0 is released.

What will happen to those who have v1.x?
Those who still do will continue to recieve updates (stability updates and bug fixes) til v3.0 is released. After that, v1.x will cease all updates and will be discontinued. Same with v 2.0 when v4.0 is released. Same with v3.0 when v5.0 is released and so on.
V1.x will most likely still work given the OS ya using. If peeps can still use Photoshoot CS6 years after being discontinued, v1.x and eventually v2.x might get the same treatment also, who knows.
People are disappointed and respectfully so.
It's an amazing and affordable software. Possibly the best software for creating comics, a great entry for young/upcoming artists, and really the one time buy is what got everyone in. It's sad that the announcement of the subscription became a deterrent for those who wanted to switch to CSP for the first. Sort of reminds me when Zbrush became a subscription base.
It really is bad timing, we are in the time were the oversaturation of subscription base medium is becoming more and more hated upon; to which I can understand, i don't like not care for subscriptions.
HOWEVER
I understand CSP wanted to go back to what they did with Manga Studio before. Using one time buy for each major version update (completed n all with free updates like 1.x) ) then i would have been fine with.
But the subscriptions still make no since in the way they are implementing it.
Hell, if they still want subscriptions, they can even have a fancy word for 'beta testers' to opt in for a subscription base version and receive the new features at a set time before everyone else gets theirs (free mind you, just later) and i would have been fine with that too.
Thoughts
I will still use Clip Studio til then (unless i find something better). Still disappointed in the whole subscription thing tho. Won't catch me paying for that shit, so I'll wait. CSP v1.x is pretty completed in itself (except for the goddamn text variations). Dunno why they overly complicated this.

My 8bitdo Pro 2 Review - Part 10 (Recorded Video) [Nov 9, 2022]
Hello! Here’s Part 10 of my new 8bitdo gamepad, the Pro 2 Bluetooth Gamepad/Controller! 🎮😁
It's been a while now since May of this year, and my Pro 2 controller surpassed my old SN30 Pro+'s lifespan. Man, I really missed my old one, but then again they're very identical, in terms of design albeit my Pro 2 has bells & whistles.
So, for this part, I'm attempting to re-download the firmware updater from 8bitdo because they released a new update version for my recent Pro 2 controller. ⬆️⚙️➡️🎮 Yeah, I lost my firmware updater, so I have no problem getting it another. And damn, I didn't get a chance to show ya my macro test while playing retro games, so maybe I'll attempt it next year (2023).

So without further ado, let’s get started:

• Alright so, here I am going to this website where I download the aforementioned software. When I checked the Pro 2's update log, I noticed that there's only one firmware version 2.00. That's odd, usually that there is only 3 firmware I've seen (evidence? → [CLICK ME!]), and as of March of 2022, I've updated the v1.07 firmware for my (Pro 2) controller. Anyways, I've already downloaded the firmware update & open it. Now, this part is quite confusing, as my current firmware update was v1.08 instead of 1.07. When did I get the v1.08 when my current firmware update was 1.07? 🤔 8bitdo probably made some little bit adjustment, I suppose? 🤨 Anyways, I decided to update their recent update, which is v2.00. Feel free to read the listing patches. And once it's done, my Pro 2 will automatically disconnect & reconnect after the completion of the firmware update. I could double-check the current firmware, and I noticed that there's literally one version, it used to have 3 firmware updates. So yeah, that's pretty strange to me.😕
• Nonetheless, let's go straight through our trusted gamepad-tester website. I reconnected my Pro 2 via my included USB type C cable to work properly. 🖥️🎮 All the buttons are functional, including my current mapped-out back buttons, and finally the analog sticks. The latter is no longer random numbers when they're centered. Even when I try to move slightly with my two thumbs, the analog joysticks are patched from the firmware version 2.00. Then again, the deadzones for the joysticks are literally the same accuracy as before. And when I tested GTA V online, nothing much to say.
(Little) Overall:
• `I'm quite happy with their firmware update 2.00 for my Pro 2 gamepad, but at the same time it riddled me where are the other firmware versions at? 🤔 It'll be better if they have different firmware versions to choose from, much like my old SN30 Pro+ gamepad. 🎮 Here's hoping, that the company itself will get to fix.
