Invader ZIM Headcanons

I’m surprised I haven’t done one of these yet. In any case, here we go:

Because of the job’s importance, candidates for the rank of Invader are evaluated with no consideration to the individual’s height, so as not to dismiss capable soldiers. However, an Invader’s height can still affect their assignment (as we saw with SKOODGE and LARB) as well as how they are treated.

Irken society has no real gender roles or expectations. Gender exists but is not considered important in any way. Irken males do not think of themselves as “men,” and Irken females do not consider themselves to be “women.” This is why ZIM has shown a willingness to crossdress as part of his cover, since Irken clothing isn’t gendered in any way.

SKOODGE is a unique, mutated individual who can survive without a PAK indefinitely. He tends to misplace his PAK because of this. The sight of SKOODGE walking around without a PAK is deeply unsettling to most Irkens, akin to seeing someone walk around without their head.

The Meekrob share one, collective consciousness. The entire species basically functions as a single individual, formic-style. This makes TENN’s infiltration of the planet especially difficult.

The Irkens’ diet is largely snack-based precisely because they don’t need to eat. Irken culture came to be without consideration of mealtimes, so square meals are largely unnecessary.

Every Invader receives a lofty regular salary for their work. Despite the fact that he isn’t a proper Invader, ZIM also receives a salary, presumably to keep up the charade.

There are no union laws in the Irken Empire, even for Irken employees. Because Irkens do not need to eat or sleep, and thus don’t need housing or food, there is also no minimum wage.

Planets are targeted for conquest because they either have a resource that the Empire has deemed valuable or the inhabitants of the planet have been determined to be a threat. Earth meets neither criteria.

Vortians have a strictly carnivorous diet, based on their sharp teeth and Vort dogs, their only known food, appearing to be a sort of alien hot dog.

Lard Nar, the leader of the Resisty, had been a scientist all his life before Invader LARB’s conquest of Vort and thus has no military experience. This is largely the reason he was so panicky during “Backseat Drivers from Beyond the Stars.”

Lard Nar held a great respect for Tallest MIYUKI, having met with her on several occasions prior to her demise in “The Trial.” He wonders if perhaps his planet would still be free if she were still alive.

The Membrane family is 100% human.

Professor Membrane is an avid gamer, who passed his love of gaming onto Gaz at a young age.

Newly selected Tallest undergo extensive body modifications, including elongating the torso and the attachment of hover belts in order to make them appear even taller. A side effect of these modifications is that the Tallest’s actual body underneath their robes is severely emaciated. Tallest RED and PURPLE are no longer able to walk on their own and would be as helpless as earthworms on the sidewalk if their suits were ever damaged.

On a similar note, the table harnesses on the Table-Headed Service Drones are specifically designed to make them appear shorter by forcing them to crouch and squat uncomfortably.

Whenever possible, a dead Irken’s PAK is retrieved so that their memories may be downloaded into a collective mind a la James Cameron’s Avatar. It is a disgrace and an insult to any individual not to be included in the collective memory bank.

Control Brains can access this collective intelligence bank at any time. This muddles the Control Brains’ sense of individuality.

Because of the nature of their deaths, neither MIYUKI nor SPORK made it into the memory bank, so all their knowledge and experience are permanently lost.
