Description

Anenon are anemone-like Pokemon that dwell in the outer fringes of the reefs lining Exile Island. They are often found floating around in large clusters with their heads pointed toward the currents to catch anything that drifts into the tentacles on their heads.

The bright colors of these creatures are to warn of their venomous nature; they are highly poisonous and even touching an Anenon can make trainers sick.

When food is scarce, batches of Anenon will make their way onto the beach and steal low-hanging Emaro Berries from the trees. They do not eat this fruit, they instead use it to lure other fish monsters into their tentacles.

I don’t know how unpopular this opinion is, but Anemone’s “change” in personality during arc 2’s events was not out of character and made sense with how she was brought up. Her actions weren’t always justified but you could understand why she did them.

Anemone had barely just turned two at the start of the arc and basically has been isolated for most of her life by one of the worst mothers in WoF. Anemone doesn’t have a good sense of morals because Queen Coral (and the dragons she surrounded herself with) didn’t help her develop those skills at all.

That’s why Anemone cast a love spell on Kinkajou without thinking of the consequences. Her mother always takes what she wants even at the expense of other dragons, so why shouldn’t she do the same?

Also, Anemone attacking Moon with the broom when Darkstalker was ignoring her was likely her reacting to her anger in the only way her mother taught her: violence.

Again, her actions aren’t justified but condemning her for being a horrible person is unfair to both her and other children that react similarly when finally getting out of an abusive (intentional or not) household.

I don't really know what else to add mate. Hit the head on the nail pretty damn well.

#029 Tentamone

Type: Poison/Water

Description

Tentamone is an anemone-like Pokemon that dwells in the deep waters off of Exile Island. Their bodies are dark and their appearance is somewhat eerie.

The tentacles on their heads are highly poisonous, and their appendages have developed smaller stinging tentacles to give a painful slap to anything that dwells close enough. But despite this arsenal of hurt, Tentamone are filter-feeders that peacefully drift along the water column. Their teeth have evolved into a baleen-like substance that traps bits of food from the water and is always exposed on their faces, giving them an odd smile.

When trainers mutate Tentamone from Anenon, it is noted that Tentamone float above the ground using the attack Terra Spirit Ball on themselves.

Researchers believe that the Tentamone line made a transition from terrestrial to aquatic life rather recently, as the green cells of Tentamone contain structures for photosynthesis despite the fact that Tentamone are deep sea dwellers.

Gen 8 - Part 4

Sulani

The Hidu-McClure Family

Sulani has always been a paradise to the world, independent of kings and rulers, letting the people govern themselves and preserve their way of life. But slowly, the community has been changing. While all of Sulani respects the Hidu-McClures, they begin talking to bringing their way of life back to what it once was, and focusing harder on natural conservation. 

It also doesn’t help that the two heirs to the Sulani Nature Conservation Society decided to abandon their posts for love. Keoni McClure was having more fun with his fellow lifeguard, Vindi Kirsen Strangreix, to even think about taking over management or even watch their children. Kai Hidu had a whirlwind romance with Princess Amina Seindu and left home to live with their sudden family. To keep the conservation society afloat and a presence on the island, Alika Hidu had no choice but to merge with another conservation effort. Meanwhile, house patriarch and merman, Paka’a Uha, is thinking about heading home into the ocean with his science baby now that his family is fractured beyond repair.

Coastguards, Conservationists, and Merfolk

With the First Invasion of Gen 8, and a new group taking popular precedence on the island, the family has their work cut out for them. The Coast Guard has been reduced to one marine, having lost her husband and in-laws to the Mother Plant. While it’s no hard task to raise her son and brother-in-law on her own, it is hard to inspire them to stay on the island and also become coast guards.

Meanwhile, the Zunzins are slowly being worn down by the new group to merging with their movement. And as Lulia Mcclure-Zunzins hears of her father, Paka’a, leaving to go back to the mermaid kingdom, she wonders if she can even stay on Sulani with her family. Could she bring herself to leave the only home she’s ever known?

The merfolk of Sulani have a much stronger presence than ever with the new Generational Era. The current Sulani ambassador, Lorelei McClure, convinced the future king, Anenon, to see the islands for himself. However, he was swept up in the new movement, and fell deeply in love with one of it’s most loyal recruits. He came hoping to make a dear friend of the island to improve relations with human-kind, but is looking for a way to bring his alien love with him back to his kingdom to live happily ever after.

The Island Divine

From seemingly nowhere, a group of island natives began proclaiming that the island of Sulani is alive, and demands more respect from her people. They preach heavily on island conservation, wishing to rid Sulani society of anything that could harm the island itself, and foster a deep connection to nature and caring for it as one would a mother. They call themselves the Island Divine, island elders reborn in the flesh with powers that the island granted them in their resurrection. They call for others to join them, asking for their help, time, resources and listening ears to their cause.

Many are rightfully suspicious. Their apparel borders on appropriation, and they drain their followers of money, time, and positive emotions. They have even suckered in many conservation efforts, effectively making their members part of the Divine. Royalty from other countries have also been targeted, as small-time health product lines and spa franchises have also been taken over by the Divine. Many Divine members have seduced the public into adult-only parties, where procreation was heavily encouraged. According to members, only children born into the ways of the Divine can be blessed with the powers of the island. So, some members of royal families married into the group, financially supporting them and their new families for the foreseeable future.

Princess Miracle Beerloith had her health line, Honey Clover, merged with the Divine so they take their share of her profits. Princess Miriela Beerloith came to Sulani after being ignored by her family and peers, and ended up falling in love with the member of the cult and provided them with science baby services to help them gain new members; and from that, was tasked with raising the next generation of Island Divine by herself. The merfolk prince is in love with her, and Miriela is torn between staying loyal to the Divine and following her heart. Prince Hayate Kani fought side-by-side with Haych Kalawai’a in the First Invasion of Gen 8, and their survival prompted their intimate marriage and a science baby together.

Many are divided whether or not the Island Divine are a dangerous cult or fantastical new direction that Sulani must take. All remains to be seen in the future if Sulani can stay independent of a royal takeover.

Something I don't see talked often enough when regarding Anemone as a character is her friendship with Darkstalker and how he manipulated her.

Yeah yeah, everyone likes to rag on how abusive Coral is and how Whirlpool is...Whirlpool, but Darkstalker also had a pretty big hand in messing her up.

Anemone herself is a pretty complicated character. Now whether this is because Tui did this on purpose or just wanted to shift a previously 'innocent and loveable' character into being an antagonist through suddenly changing their character is still up for debate, but let's say this is on purpose.

Yes, Anemone is supposed to be written as a traumatized child who went through more shit than anybody else should. Hatched into the role of being th sole heir to the throne and was literally attached to her mother for most of her life. She had no friends and no social life. When her animus magic was discovered, things got even worse. Now, she's being trained as a weapon for war by Whirlpool. 'Trained' would actually be a stretch since he was grooming her and trying to get her to go mad and become queen, making him the king in the process.

Pretty bad, eh? So after she kills Whirlpool (another traumatic thing that Tui makes clear Anenone is affected by), she is still attached to her mother's side. Again, she's got no friends. She doesn't have her brothers to play with since she's deemed 'too good' for their rowdy nature. She's just seen as a tool by the kingdom, one to exploit for her animus magic.

Finally, she gets a chance at freedom. She literally had to enchant Coral in order to do this, by the way. She enchanted Auklet's harness so that she would care more about Auklet than her. She's desperate to interact with other dragons. Yeah, of course it goes to her head since she's royalty and an animus, but can you blame her? She's finally free from the suffocating hold her mother had on her.

But, that's not enough. Nobody really...likes her. She's bratty and full of herself since she's a princess and all. She's still seen as an outcast, only cared about because of her status and magic.

Until Darkstalker comes along that is.

Anemone and Darkstalker have some parallels and I can definitely see Anemone seeing Darkstalker as a role model. Darkstalker once also came from a horrible family life, but he rose above it. He did what she doesn't have the guts to do, make her family pay for what they've done.

Not only that, but Darkstalker is literally the only other animus she knows. He knows exactly what it's like to be her. Any sort of struggles she has, he relates to. Of course she's going to try and be friends with him.

And, well, we know what Darkstalker does as soon as somebody seems to like him. He manipulates her and gives her special treatment, inflating her ego by granting her with protecting from losing her soul. He gets her trust, which is when he brings out the idea of her killing her mother and becoming queen.

Darkstalker clearly wants this since he'll have control over the SeaWings through manipulating Anemone. He exploits her desire for revenge and frames it as a good thing to kill her mother, since he did it to Arctic.

It's just...yeah... Darkstalker definitely had a hand in adding onto the trauma pile this poor kid has. With him backstabbing her and all that...yeah...

Poor Anemone.
