MEA denies issuing a ‘secret memo’ as reported in the US media report
The Ministry of External Affairs has denied a media report claiming that it issued a ‘secret memo’ to the Indian missions in North America. As per the media report, there were secret memos issued to certain Indian Missions in North America in April 2023 and the memo asked the missions to take ‘concrete measures’ against Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar who was then shot dead in June 2023.
A MEA spokesperson clarified, "We strongly assert that such reports are fake and completely fabricated. There is no such memo.: He added that this is all a part of a disinformation campaign against India.
"The outlet (The Intercept) in question is known for propagating fake narratives peddled by Pakistani intelligence. The posts of the authors confirm this linkage," said the official further. "Those who amplify such fake news only do so at the cost of their own credibility," he added. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau in November made allegations against India stating its “potential’ involvement of Indian agents in the killings of Khalistan extremist Nijjar, who was shot dead on June 18 on Canadian soil.
The news makes the already tense atmosphere even more stressful as it comes at a time when FBI chief Christopher Wray is expected to take up the case of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. In November, the U.S. Justice Department declared that they had arrested a man who was allegedly working on a mission to assassinate Mr. Pannun. Pannun is a New York and Canada-based spokesperson of the Khalistan movement.

Mahatma Gandhi statue defaced with pro-Khalistan graffiti in Ontario
Tumblr media
In the latest in a series of such incidents, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Canada has been defaced and spraypainted with pro-Khalistan and anti-India graffiti
The vandalism occurred in the early hours of Thursday near the City Hall in the town of Hamilton, in the province of Ontario. The statue of the Mahatma has been at that location since 2012.
According to a video of the vandalism, the six-foot tall bronze statue, which had been gifted by the Indian Government, was doused with paint and graffiti written around the base of the statue, including abuse of Gandhi himself, and an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A Khalistan flag was also attached to the walking stick held by the statue.
The vandalism was discovered in the early of the morning and city authorities worked quickly to clean the statue and the graffiti. Hamilton Police confirmed to the Hindustan Times that they received a complaint in this regard on Thursday afternoon and were investigating.
In February, a Hindu temple in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) was desecrated, with anti-India and pro-Khalistan graffiti spraypainted on its back wall, the fourth such incident of that nature within a period of eight months. The target of the vandalism was the Shri Ram Mandir in the town of Mississauga in the GTA.
On January 30, the Gauri Shankar Mandir in Brampton was similarly desecrated. Prior to that, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, located at the Vishnu Mandir in Richmond Hill, was defaced in July last year. The 20-foot tall bronze statue was situated in the temple’s Peace Park. Weeks later, in September, an episode of such vandalisation occurred at the front entrance to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto.
None of these incidents have so far resulted in any arrests. While they have been linked by some to the so-called Punjab Referendum being organized by the secessionist group, Sikhs for Justice or SFJ, Canadian law enforcement has yet to establish that connection.
As with previous episodes, a video of the incident, apparently taken during the night when the vandalisation occurred, was shared on social media by some apparently pro-Pakistan handles.
The September incident had led to India issuing a formal diplomatic communique, called a note verbale to Global Affairs Canada, the country’s foreign ministry.
Even that wasn’t the first time a statue of the Mahatma has been targeted in North America. In February last year, such a statue was decapitated in New York, while in January 2021, another was vandalised in Davis, California.

Quelles bonnes nouvelles peut-on invoquer sérieusement ?

Khalistan organization gave threat to burn the Indian flag on January 26
Tumblr media
In America, a Khalistan organization has warned of 'burning Indian flag'. This organization has said that it will burn this flag in front of the Indian Embassy building located in Washington DC on the occasion of Republic Day. The organization 'Sikh for Justice' has also sent an invitation to all its supporters to join this protest.
It is tragic that according to American law, such an event can not be stopped. The organization has requested the people in their invitation to demonstrate in a public park in front of the Indian Embassy located in Massachusetts Avenue in Washington, DC.
Khalistan organization said in its statement, "We will oppose Article 25 (b) of the Indian Constitution in which Sikhs are said to be Hindu." Significantly, the national flag is also dear to the Indians, and it is considered a criminal act to burn the nation's flag in India. But according to American law, doing so is not a crime. Apart from the 'first amendment' of the American Constitution, the 'rights' of burning or disrespecting the national flag of the protesters has also been protected.
Similarly, the U.S. Supreme Court twice has confirmed in 1989 and 1990 that the right to humiliate the American national flag also falls under a kind of freedom of expression. In the 1989 Texas vs. Johnson case, the U.S. Supreme Court declared the ban on the US flag being declared illegal.
The Indian government has often asked the American administration to stop anti-India demonstrations there, but every time from the US, the same answer is that these all come under the 'freedom of expression' under the American Constitution.
The Khalistan organization taking advantage of this legal path is preparing to perform anti-India demonstrations on the occasion of the 70th Republic Day of India. Sources in the Government of India say that they have already given information to many countries about this organization and its funding, and have expressed their concerns. This Khalistani organization advocates the alleged Kashmir movement while favoring Pakistan.
The US administration can not stop such a performance, even if it is in front of the Indian Embassy. But a statement from US President Donald Trump is interesting about this.
Donald Trump, tweeted on November 29, 2018, after being elected the president, "Nobody should have the right to burn the American flag, those who do so should punish them, strip their citizenship or take them Be put in jail for a year!
But at the moment, no law has been made in this regard. Now the concern of the Indian Embassy Administration is that the function of Republic Day will be dealt with efficiently without interference.

Red Card  by Ranju Aery Dadhwal
Tumblr media
About the book
This book examines the politicization of victims of terrorism and the reality of the victimization experience of Hindus of Punjab. A very short introduction into the historical, ideological and local  and foreign roots of terrorist violence in Punjab in which Hindus are being embattled till today.  This violent war of politics and power lasted for almost a decade.
Families of Hindus killed or migrated from the state have been shedding tears for the last three decades. Terrorism/ Terrorist does not have a widely agreed definition but is widely accepted as a method of coercion. Victims of terrorism are a unique group of individuals whose experience is overlooked in Punjab on terrorism. Unlike America, where we have seen lobbying activities and political involvement of the victims of terrorism in policy-making and law-enforcement transformations, Punjab has forgotten Hindu terrorist victims for political gains.
Killed to lay the foundation of Khalistan or were terrorized and forced to flee the state. To this day these People are deprived of not only justice but even the red-cards given to the families of the victims of terrorism. Without the card they are deprived of the government concessions available to them.
This book is based on field work in Punjab, Haryana, some parts of Himachal and Delhi. This   focuses on the needs and experiences of victims of terrorism and political violence and does not intend to create a rift between the communities.  This book will be of much interest to students of terrorism and political violence for power, victim’s condition and disparities in justice delivered, if any.
About the author
Ranju Aery  Dadwal,
After nearly three decades of journalism, voluntarily retired from the job of the Dainik  Tribune (The Tribune Trust).
After leaving my job, I devoted my entire attention to this book. During this journey I also visited some areas of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal and met people who migrated from Punjab during terrorism. Got an opportunity to meet Hindu s in rehabilitation Camp in Delhi too.
I was shaken by some of the horrifying stories of these people. I was taken aback when some of them said that I am the first person in three decades, who has given them an ear. The pain of the people was such that it cannot even be described. I met many people but certainly they could not get space in my book, but my promise to all those people and my readers that I will make you hear their plight from them, may be from another platform soon.
I have many breakthroughs in my journalism carrier and one of them is described in Harish Pathak's book 'National Journalism of Zonal Newspapers.'
Many people helped me while writing this book. Vijay Singh Bhardwaj, connected me to some of the terrorist victims of Punjab and from there the chain started expanding and then met several victims at various places.

India has provided evidence about Pakistan-backed Khalistani groups, US should take action: Report
WASHINGTON: The Indian government has provided the United States considerable evidence of links between US-based Khalistan groups and militants and terrorists operating in India but Washington has been largely “unresponsive”, says a report by a top American think tank which also noted that cooperation between Khalistani and Kashmiri groups has become increasingly apparent in North America, the…
