the epic saga of me trying to make Rainbow High dolls into ZEXAL characters

i got a Krystal Bailey for the eye-swap so expect something soon. honestly i have a few things i wanna do, but the weather has not been kind. all this stuff requires me to be in my un-airconditioned bathroom for long periods of time so this may take a bit but i’ll post restyles.

for the Shark custom, i’m using Ainsley Slater as a base with Krystal Bailey’s eyes. i plan on painting the lips are dark indigo, but leaving the rainbow eyeshadow and the hair. i was actually gonna reroot him, but the hair is so long and full i can’t bring myself to cut it and it will work good for the style i have planned.

i also have a Zooey Electra that i’m going to make into Astral. i plan to remove the eyebrows, under-eye paint, blush, and lip color. replace that with Astral’s (full-body) markings and paint the lips to match. i also want to remove the hair tinsel and do some braiding (i have never braided hair before 😬).

if anybody has any ygo custom specific questions i may (keyword may) be able to provide some guidance, but for general Rainbow High and general doll customizing information i get all my little tutorials and tips from xCanadensis on Youtube. her videos are very informative and nonjudgmental, and she does a lot of Rainbow High stuff

The West Wing thoughts - watching for the first time

I just wanted to feed back to you some of my thoughts upon watching  The West Wing for the first time in 2021-2022. I got up to about the sixth season then started again from the beginning, so I haven't finished yet, but I can give you some of my initial thoughts.

Some of it, astonishingly and sadly, is still very relevant. There are discussions about gun control and education standards and strategies that I swear are still being replayed. The climate change sections are interesting, and I must admit that I frowned very sternly at Leo (who mostly I love) when he repressed/adjusted that environmental impact report. I'm not American, but I suspect that the episode (which I think is called 'Two Indians in the Lobby'?) about native title and land ownership and First Nations people is also still pretty accurate. The whole plotline about Charlie not being able to afford a lawyer, and the financial difficulties he has on his salary I think is also probably accurate. I don't think salaries for government workers have appreciably increased, despite their ridiculous time commitment. I also wonder how he manages to afford his wardrobe - his job obviously requires professional dress, and he would need to keep himself in suits, shirts, shoes, ties, etc.

The part which I find glaringly jarring is the sexism. It's not in the treatment of CJ, there's also very good commentary on the numbers of women in various roles, etc. It's partly in the treatment of Ainsley Hayes, who I like very much, and who is repeatedly referred to as a sex kitten. She's completely appropriately in her dress (the one time she comes straight from a reception she changes immediately), but Sam continually makes comments to her about her appearance. There is definitely respect for her brain and her input, but there's also an implication that as a Republican she would not have been hired if she wasn't really attractive. There's also kind of a running joke about Will Bailey and his interchangeable interns. I like Will very much, but these women are saving his bacon and doing stellar work, mostly overtime, he should at the very least learn their names and also champion the cause of getting them properly paid positions. There's an implication that he wouldn't treat them quite so casually if they weren't attractive women.

The technology is obviously out of date but doesn't really disrupt the story. The women's fashion holds up surprisingly well, I guess very classic office attire doesn't date too much, although the fit of Josh's suits particularly is very of his time. Toby's also, though Sam seems to spend more time in shirtsleeves rather than jackets, and I think his trousers are cut more closely (I think this is more about his wardrobe showing off a more attractive actor, though. For the record, I find Josh really hot in all his rumpled glory - it's probably the dimples and the very passionate personality).

You are absolutely right about the sexism. A lot of it is the accusation that gets leveled at Sorkin all the time that he can't write women. Although I think he writes some women just fine, like, CJ is great, and I always loved Abbey, too. But Ainsley for some reason, I agree, stands out, and she did even at the time, that we were all kind of like, "Why does Sam keep making these weird comments about Ainsley????" I admit I don't remember as much about Will Bailey because that post-dated my passionate love for the show, then I was just kind of watching to finish out the Josh/Donna arc lol.

You are soooo right about Josh's suits, they are so, so boxy! It's interesting that they cut Sam's "sexier," so to speak, I didn't think about that! But I'm with you, Josh was the hot one to me, he was by far my favorite character, I absolutely adored him.

au + headcanon meme, summer camp au

HI OKAY YES!! i miss you so much oh my god. okay so some time last year, with the help of @palukoo i have a convoluted summer camp au in my head so every single good idea is because of them. literally all the credit.

josh is the head counselor, if that's even a thing. ham and i discussed him being the program director, pretty much, but he still has interactions with campers for my heart. josh is not exactly the "successor" for jed- he's pretty much training for leo's job as director of camp life. (i know. dying.) obviously josh/donna is paralleled here- donna is a self-hired CIT in josh's area. she started that job when she was 16, and after a few years, josh moved to head counselor and unofficial program director. so donna became his deputy!! which means she saves his ass when it comes to scheduling, and pretty much everything else. they're in love with each other forever, obviously, but nothing happens for years until one summer when they're 22 and 26. they attempt a secret relationship and dramatically fail, because everyone knows they've been in love with each other for half a decade.

cj is an area lead, because out of everyone she just seems like the best counselor. honestly, i can't imagine anyone more suited to boss kids around without making them hate her. she's in charge of a few specific things in administration, mainly camp outreach and like, recruitment. i can so picture cj getting people to join the camp and introducing jed and abbey to the concept of internet advertising, and eventually forcing jed into it after he stubbornly refuses to pay for anything except newspaper ads. she helps with the camp newsletter and student announcements. she eventually leaves the newspaper leadership to danny, who worked on it with her, and focuses fully on supervising the camp news show. it has nothing to do with toby being the script writer for "west wing daily," obviously. nothing at all.

toby is in charge of logistics and helps with the camp announcements, which really isn't at all his job but he does it for cj shhh. the two of them are the only couple at camp who have successfully hidden a romantic relationship for more than two summers, and that was only because toby and andy were literally married while they were with cj (yes its the ot3 no i will never shut up). andy is probably also a counselor and i love ham's idea of amy as her deputy, and they help cj with her outreach and recruitment in terms of leadership by leading a program for older campers to train them for volunteering as counselors in the future.

abbey and jed own the camp and are co directors. abbey is in charge of medical, which ellie helps out with (pretty much abbey is in charge but ellie is like the CIT for medical?) ellie is dating mal because i said so, and she's also a CIT.

basically our senior staff are all counselors in some regard in this au, and they're all in their older 20s. donna is like 20 or 21, i would say. since this is a volunteer camp, all the senior staffers are both area leads and have some position in administration- so like sam is toby's deputy, helping with logistics and leads a ton of activities. he teaches a debate class with ainsley and each year, half the kids are just there to see them argue and bet on how long they can delay class by spurring them on.
