Roots

It was in 1947 that Achille Maramotti began designing couture clothing. The House of Max Mara was established in 1951. The "Mara" came from his surname, while "Max" referred to Count Max, a local character who was seldom sober but always stylish.

He was one of the first people who saw that the future of fashion lay in the mass production of designer-quality clothes. He was also passionate in emphasizing of Max Mara ahead of other names of other individual designers.

Some designers that had been employed by Maramotti and are now having their own labels include Karl Lagerfeld, Castelbajac, Dolce & Gabanna, Narciso Rodriguez and others. He also wisely held the company’s control in the hands of the family to this day.

Founder

Cavaliere Achille Maramotti founded the first company of the Max Mara Group in 1951, today one of the most prestigious international fashion houses, recognized worldwide as the forerunner of modern ready-to-wear: "haute de gamme" women's clothing produced using excellent industrial processes.

The company’s headquarters is at Via Fratelli Cervi 66, Reggio Emilia in Italy.
