This photoshoot is actually so funny to me cause why tf did they send Rivers into a boxing ring? Like, they could've sent Scott in, y'know, the one who actually looks like he could hold himself in a fight, or even Pat. But no they sent twinkie winkie in there and expect him to win? He's going to fucking DIE

I don't understand why people hate weezer. I mean, come on, rivers just wanted to make music with some guys. And when he got to fame, he was like, "Hey, I don't think I can handle this much fame. So I'm just gonna go back home and do college things." I really like how when rivers got too uncomfortable with how he had the spotlight on him, he decided to just take a break and come back with a more personal album. some songs from weezer are not the greatest you've heard, but at least they can give you something to just vibe with.
Also, have you seen what the band looks like?! They look like your middle/high school teachers who decided to put a band together!!

I'm changing my blog name
Hey everyone. If you're seeing this you've probably followed me for some time, and know me as "averagebrianbellenjoyer". I just heard about the Brian Bell allegations and looked through the body of evidence for it (https://docs.google.com/document/d/10lCtQxSVRHvRKfhKMYWogHCIhu8E9uE2hl2YJ17WhVA/edit?pli=1). Look through it in your own time, but I can say from what I've seen a lot of his behaviour is creepy and inexcusable.
Initially there were rumours of Brian Bell having sex with a 17 year old (back in the black/pacific daydream era i think?) on the weezer subreddit, but those comments were few, and made by a handful of what looked like troll accounts. At the time I didn't consider them as fully valid, given that there was no evidence from the victim herself to back them up, and her youtube video had been taken down before I could watch it. Basically because of the lack of evidence I had thought these were (fucked up) joke allegations like the gay allegations or something. Now that there is evidence, I can say with certainty that Brian Bell is a nonce and I won't be supporting him any longer.
I know a lot of weezer's fanbase is quite young (as in younger than blue and pinkerton), and while I think that it's not inherently wrong to interact with young fans, the way he did it was completely inappropriate. There's a big difference between answering a child's questions about his music and getting overly touchy with a 14 year old girl. And I don't mean offering a hug touchy, I mean touchy to the point that even if he went to any Arab country (which are notorious for very 'touchy' greetings) and did this shit, he would probably get beaten up by the locals.
There's also general other gripes, such as him trying to incite a smear campaign against one of his former bandmates, which while not damaging on its own, definitely doesn't help with the nonce allegations and the general self-centred persona he gives off.
I do not want to be associated with, let alone support such a disgusting character as Bell. I'm going to be changing my profile picture and renaming my blog "Jean's Corner". I will also be deleting my Brian Bell fanfiction off of AO3, and revoking his honorary Moroccan citizenship. Frankly, this man does not deserve a fan base. The most fitting punishment (after prosecution if he has committed statutory rape etc.) is for him to fade into obscurity and die unknown. I also think it's time Weezer found a new guitarist, hell I'd even be happy to see Jason Cropper re-join the band. For the time being I will continue listening to Weezer, as I enjoy it on an artistic level. The band has more members than Bell, and the bulk of their work can be attributed to Rivers Cuomo (and Jason Cropper re. Blue), not Bell. Plus there are other bands that I still listen to and enjoy due to their emotional significance for me like the Dresden Dolls, even if one of their members was incredibly racist (sang a minstrel song which included the n-word which she said hard r). Whether I continue to listen to Weezer or not might change in the next couple of weeks depending on how Rivers Cuomo and the rest of the band respond to these allegations, and given that I haven't listened to them in ages, they wouldn't be difficult to give up.
Though I never listened much to Bell's own music, from now I will completely avoid his solo projects such as Space Twins and The Relationship. I might even avoid Weezer songs where he sings lead vocals, such as Thought I Knew and Everybody Get Dangerous, but I'm not fully sure yet.
To basically conclude this clusterfuck of a situation, Brian Bell is a nonce, and I don't want to have anything to do with him anymore. May he be excommunicated from the band and fade into obscurity.

Your paian mv was very cute and fits them so well!
Do you know any other songs that fit them?
(Your art is also vv cool)
i am SO sorry for answering this so late, i always get a bit nervous sharing songs i associate with characters due to my fear of choosing things that dont fit them at all, haha.
one of my personal favorites is "king of the world" by weezer. it was a song that rivers cuomo (the frontman of the band) dedicated to his wife, so there's some pretty specific experiences mentioned, but i generally feel that it fits them.
i always imagined ada being someone who is very very conscious about how she can't help *everyone* and i feel that it would be something that she would be very worried about. knowing that so many people out there are suffering, i think this would really worry her. ian would try his best to ease her pain and comfort her about it.
but, uh, thats just my personal interpretation of them.

Fall Out Boy - So Much For Stardust song-by-song review
I'm just gonna start this by being completely honest: since MANIA was released, I haven't been interested in any Fall Out Boy songs because I was that disappointed by that album. To my surprise when they released the first singles of SMFS they sounded pretty good, but they still weren't enough to get me hyped, I even forgot that the album was to come out today until I got the notification
Well, this opinion changed instantly when I listened through the whole record. This might even be one of the best albums of the year for me already. But let's not get that ahead this early. Here's what I think song by song.
01. Love From The Other Side
The first single the band released off the album and conveniently the opening track starts with a dreamy piano+string intro which then explodes into a surprising rock riff that is very reminiscent of the earlier FOB records. So much so that when I first heard it I thought it was a B-Side from Folie A Deux or something. But no, it was a well-written pop punk banger with a great hook in the chorus that was a 2022 release (as a single). The music video is also hilarious with old man Pete telling a tale and the band wearing dumb costumes and having countless references to older FOB videos. Nostalgia factor 10/10.
02. Heartbreak Feels So Good
The second single and the second song starts with an intro that scared me a little when I first heard it. Not because it was spooky but because it had a little late 2010's dancehall feeling to it that I really hoped the music industry had grown out of already. But as soon as the drums and later the guitars arrive everything suddenly made sense. The post-chorus ooh-s reminded me a little to the MANIA era but they weren't as jarring as I expected. Sounded very poppunk again, similarly to the older FOB albums. The line: "I’d never go, I just want to be invited" is one that I think every introvert like me can relate to which is a nice touch in the song. The music video has Rivers Cuomo in it which made the song even better for me as a huge Weezer fan.
03. Hold Me Like a Grudge
Now this was what I expected from a newer Fall Out Boy single. Despite being only the first single that was released today, same day as the album itself, if I heard the full album for the first time, I would've guessed this was the first single. It's really dance-y, borderline annoyingly. The yeah-yeahs reminded me a little of Michael Jackson's highs that brought a little soul vibe to the whole song. Also although the song has distorted guitars in it, I wouldn't call this one a rock song, more like a funky, dance-y, disco pop banger which happens to be played by a whole rock band. The lyrics are really good in this one, seems like the boys found the right pen again because lines such as: "And I guess I'm getting older cause I'm less pissed When I can't get onto the guest list" or "Part time soulmate, full time problem" seem way less cringy than "I'll stop wearing black when they make a darker color" for example. Overall this one is a great song but if you want the emo version of FOB, you might not like it.
04. Fake Out
The fourth track starts off really reminiscent of the 00's, this one is a calmer, "sad but i'm dancing anyway" type of song. The verse riff to me sounds like a blink-182 song, similar to Bored to Death or What's My Age Again with the clean guitars, it really seems like this one was written to pay respects to the band's roots. The lyrics in this are on point again, the opening line of the chorus: "Love is in the air, I just gotta figure out a window to break" is again really quotable, and Patrick's vocal performance singing the high notes is perfect as usual. The elder emos who liked FOB from Infinity On High might enjoy this song a lot.
05. Heaven, Iowa
The first more of a power ballad on the album starts very pop-ish, so the listener doesn't know what to expect until the second chorus hits. Patrick again shows his incredible range, and in the second chorus the guitars and the drums follow him on his journey to the highest of highs. It's honestly one of the more annoyingly catchy songs for me on the album, by the time the last chorus hit I was ready to scream: SCAR... CROSSED... LOVERS... FOREVER. There's even a spicy guitar solo/lick at the end that adds to the whole power ballad feeling.
06. So Good Right Now
If you want a really retro sounding, almost rockabilly song to dance to then look no further. This song also screams both Infinity On High and Folie A Deux to me. The chorus is a little repetitive, it's like it's purposely trying to convince you that the singer is feeling soooo good right now. Maybe this is an obvious contradiction that just flew over my head. There's also a lot of woah-s and yeah-s which add to this feeling of repetitiveness. Overall I think this one, despite sounding really retro, a forgettable song for me.
07. The Pink Seashell (feat. Ethan Hawke)
This one is an interesting spoken word interlude between the (seemingly) happiest and the biggest sounding songs on the record: Ethan Hawke's guest appearence from the movie Reality Bites where his character speaks about enjoying life despite its hardships. Honestly this interlude hit me way harder than it should've. There's not much to say, if you're a 90's movie fan, you probably know this whole monologue, if not then prepare the tissues 'cause you're about to be sad.
08. I Am My Own Muse
As previously mentioned, this one is easily the biggest sounding song on the whole record. The first intrumental section really shows how good songwriters the boys in the band are. There's a sting section, a brass secion, accompanied by the heavy sounding muted guitars are just amazingly well put together. I recommend listening to this one with good sounding headphones. The melody in the verses also similar to 40's and 50's love songs with the melody ending on a lower note. I feel like this song pays homage to these huge movie soundtracks and scores that were in the classic movies back then.
09. Flu Game
Surprise, surprise, another dance-y sounding piece. This one just blatantly tells you that there was a heartbreak and the singer of the song doesn't need to count on them or anyone anymore. I don't know if just because of the danciness or because of the production but Flu Game has major Folie A Deux vibes for me. I also like the ear allegory between Mike Tyson and Van Gogh. Sometimes I love FOB because of these clever lyrical comparisons and not because of the melodies, and this one belongs to that category.
10. Baby Annihilation
Despite the title sounding like a deathcore album, this one is just a short spoken word interlude by Pete Wentz himself, the first one since 20 Dollar Nose Bleed apparently. It doesn't hit as hard for me as the Ethan Hawke one but if you like Wentz' lyricism you might even enjoy this little break between songs. It's a disappointed yearning for something better and that's pretty much all it wants to say.
11. The Kintsugi Kid (Ten Years)
If you liked Save Rock And Roll, this song might be for you. The Na-Na-Na's bring that feeling to this song, the instrumental is not as pop rock-ishly heavy as in the other songs. I also like the melody before the bridge a lot, it's very pop punk. I don't think this one will become a hit but the diehard fans of the band will still enjoy this song a lot.
12. What a Time To Be Alive
We pretty much paid homage to every decade now, of course the 80's won't be an exception. The drums in the beginning sounded a little like Mary On A Cross by Ghost to me and the riff is also reminiscent of that kind of music. But again, the melody and the production also reminded me to Papa Don't Preach by Madonna so I don't know what to think anymore. The song's groove is similar to the Madonna song as well. The lyrics are clearly written about the lockdown era and how we were waiting for the apocalypse to happen. The song is vibey and happy but the lyrics are probably the darkest so far. To add to the 80's feeling there's even a harmonized guitar solo in the end. Great piece, I really enjoyed this one.
13. So Much (for) Stardust
And the cherry on top, as mentioned in the previous song, the title track of the album. The piano intro sounds very soul-ish to me which compliments Patrick's voice. Then we get a Save Rock'n Roll type of ballad chorus which is completely expected for a Fall Out Boy closing track but the real cherry on top is something else. Around 3 minutes there's a reprise of the first song of the album which hasn't happened in Fall Out Boy songs since What A Catch, Donnie on Folie A Deux. When I heard the callback for the first time I gasped "No Shit" to myself because that was such a cheap but great solution by the band that I didn't know was still in them. Pretty much the best closure since What A Catch, Donnie. Absolute perfection
So here it is, I didn't think I would enjoy a FOB record in 2023, but here we are. This album is perfect for elder emos' nostalgia boner but also a fresh take on how pop rock/mainstream pop punk should sound in the current year, embracing the nostalgia. The record is amazing for the early spring weather, I listened to it during a long walk by myself, I'd recommend you to do the same. Easily will be among the albums of the year for me personally.

A penny for your thoughts?
Alright, since I've already exhausted my favorite topic (Danhausen) I'll use my second favorite topic (Weezer). Sorry in advance for the essay I'm about to write here but anyway here goes.
Weezer is a really polarizing band, people either love them or they hate them, and even certain people who are fans of Weezer REALLY hate Weezer. I always say "Nobody hates Weezer more than a Weezer fan" and it's funny cuz it's true! Well, not funny in a fun way, funny in a sad way.
Anyway, I think people don't give them enough credit for when they do write really actually good music, because they're too busy making fun of the ironic jokey music they do. People take it way too seriously and totally miss the point. Like, yeah, it's bad, it's stupid, but it's on purpose! It's supposed to be funny and you're holding it to a standard it wasn't meant to be had to! Sometimes they just write something stupid for shits and giggles.
They have a song called Where's My Sex, which is a really dumb song where he sings about socks but replaced the word socks with sex. Really stupid, as I said. But that same album that song is on also has some seriously good writing on it that gets completely disregarded because it's on the same album as Where's My Sex. Also the album is called Hurley and the cover is a very zoomed in picture of Jorge Garcia's face, so that may be another a factor on why that album gets disregarded...
This even extends to some of the actually good and clever songs they've got. Like, I watched Anthony Fantano's "Weezer worst to best" and he said L.A Girlz from White Album was a stupid song because "he says 'L.A girls, please act your age' even though he refuses to act his own age and he's whining like a child' when if you watch the music video the singer, Rivers, is portrayed by a child actor, and the girl he's singing about is played by an adult woman. The whole point of the song is that he's ironically asking the girls to act their age when he's the one acting like a kid! And he's probably not the only person who missed the point of that song.
Weezer has legitimately some of my favorite lyrics in the world, Rivers Cuomo is really good at making very simple but sweet songs. There's a lot of really effective imagery and evocative emotional lyrics in these songs.
He's such a good songwriter actually that he has thousands of demos on retainer and sometimes he will just give them away to other bands who he thinks will use them better. Some bands/musicians he's given songs to are Asian Kung Fu Generation, 5 Seconds of Summer, Charli XCX, Panic! at the Disco, and the Monkees. He even did a song with Miranda Cosgrove one time? But that's a whole other thing.
Eventually I wanna make some posts compiling some of my favorite Weezer/Rivers Cuomo lyrics, maybe even make some art out of them. I'll put a few examples here though for the time being just so it doesn't seem like I'm talking out my ass
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In conclusion: the day the world can appreciate Weezer instead of making fun of them for seemingly no reason is the day I can die happy

Buddy Holly" is a song by American rock band Weezer. The song was written by Rivers Cuomo and released as the second single from the band's debut album, Weezer (The Blue Album) on September 7, 1994, which would have been Buddy Holly's 58th birthday. The lyrics reference the song's 1950s namesake and actress Mary Tyler Moore. It reached number two and number 34 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart and the US Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, respectively. The song also reached number six in Canada, number 12 in the United Kingdom, number 13 in Iceland and number 14 in Sweden.
Rolling Stone ranked "Buddy Holly" number 484 in its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" (2021), raising it 15 spots from number 499 (2010), and raised from around 19 years prior, being ranked number 497 (2004).[5][6] The digital version of the single for "Buddy Holly" was certified gold by the RIAA in 2006.[7] VH1 ranked it as one of the "100 Greatest Songs of the 90s" at number 59 in December 2007.[8]
Songwriter Rivers Cuomo wrote "Buddy Holly" after his friends made fun of his Asian girlfriend.[9] He originally planned to exclude it from the album; he felt it was "cheesy" and perhaps did not represent the sound he was pursuing for Weezer. Producer Ric Ocasek persuaded him to include it. In the book River's Edge, Ocasek is quoted saying: "I remember at one point he was hesitant to do 'Buddy Holly' and I was like, 'Rivers, we can talk about it. Do it anyway, and if you don't like it when it's done, we won't use it. But I think you should try. You did write it and it is a great song.'" Bassist Matt Sharp recalled: "Ric said we'd be stupid to leave it off the album. We'd come into the studio in the morning and find little pieces of paper with doodles on them: WE WANT BUDDY HOLLY."[10]
An early demo of "Buddy Holly" recorded by Cuomo in 1993 has a different feel, as the song is played at a much slower tempo than the version that appears on the album. This version appeared on Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo. The liner notes for Alone explain that the chorus, in its most primitive form, originally was sung as: "Oo-wee-oo you look just like Ginger Rogers / Oh, oh, I move just like Fred Astaire". The rest of the chorus stayed the same as the Blue Album version.
True.

I think these will be enough to wash out the bad taste left by M A N I A…
The Princess Bride-inspired ‘Love from the Other Side’ sees slick arena rock with a symphonic bent as the band try to outrun the giant claws of a Mecha-Wolf, sailing their way from Winnetkaland to the Big City, with a slight detour to Emo Island.
More shenanigans ensue in the clip for ‘Heartbreak Feels So Good’ (the more superior track, imo), with FOB being fucked over by Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo in a prank gone wrong before being chased by angry fans. There’s also a street fight involving a wrench, if that’s your thing…
I think I like this? I’m not expecting a full-on pop-punk revival, but it rocks, at least. Look, at this point, anything is gonna sound better next to M A N I A…
FOB, as of this moment, are now a trio, with guitarist Joe Trohman taking time off from the band to concentrate on his mental health. I wish him well (◡‿◡✿)

stu looks like he would listen to weezer while Billy looks like one of those mfs who listen to linkin park,
Also tears over beers reminds me of Stu in the sense of the singers perspective talking abt Billy or smyh i can’t explain it
Lmao yeah Billy’s an emo bitch, call him out.
For real you can find both of them at warped tour and Stu would probably go with Billy to see the Deftones and MCR but there’s no way Billy is going with Stu to see Weezer or Sum 41 (idk why but I think Billy would hate Rivers Cuomo lol)
And thank you for the song rec! I think Stu is a sucker for songs about pining, this totally makes sense
Edit: I said warped tour because Weezer & Linkin park have both actually played warped tour (and also warped tour has a higher concentration of Billy bands imo) but now I’m thinking about them at Woodstock 99’ and that’s an idea isn’t it?
You know Stu would be in the crowd during Limp Bizkit, and you KNOW he would be one of the douchebags crowd surfing on a ripped down peice of the barricade.

Hi!! It's my first album review!!! How exciting!!!! Lately I've been really into the Blue Album by Weezer (you can laugh at me all you want), and so I thought I'd write my first review on it. The standard version has 10 songs. My favorites are Only In Dreams, No One Else, Undone - The Sweater Song, Buddy Holly, and In The Garage in that order!
Only In Dreams starts off with a super catchy and memorable bassline, which is probably what captivated me the most. Any song with a sick bassline is bound to capture my interest. When the guitars kick in, you *know* this is going to be a song you listen to on repeat. I also really enjoy the lyrics of the first verse. "You can't avoid her, she's in the air / In between molecules of oxygen and carbon dioxide," is such a great hyperbole because it takes one step further from just saying "she's in the air," which is used commonly. The exaggeration of her being IN BETWEEN molecules and co2 is really helpful to understand the narrator's constant state of mind about this girl. The layering of an electric guitar playing the same riff as the bass after the second chorus makes the song come crashing down (in a good way). Like the reality that you have this relationship only in a dream is suddenly hitting and it's making you more and more upset by the second. Then, there's the buildup with the bass and the ride and the guitar to the solo. Rivers Cuomo, the lead singer and guitarist, said this was one of his favorite solos, and I can definitely see why. This entire song encapsulates teenage yearning in my opinion. And the key resolution at the end of the song???? Perfection!!! Since this is a closer and I'm a sucker for closers that sound like closers, I have to point that out.
No One Else is a song from the perspective of an obsessive, controlling partner. I mostly just like this song because the chorus is hella catchy. If I go to a Weezer concert sometime in my lifetime and they play this song, I will burst the entire crowd's eardrums by screaming "I WANT A GIRL WHO WILL LAUGH FOR NO ONE ELSE" so loudly that they'll have to sue me for causing them bodily harm. Also they might think I'm screaming so loudly because I relate to this song, which would stink. Anyway. Weezer is just so brilliant at finding the most coming-of-age movie-like guitar chords and making songs that make me feel like *a teenager*. Like a proper, stereotypical teenager. But in a good way.
As for Undone, the main riff is so suave. Apparently Rivers wrote it about depression but it quickly and unexpectedly became a song people found funny. Nonetheless, Undone is a song I would walk in the middle of hallways to. It makes me feel like it's me against the world, and I've got everything under control. The lyrics of the verses feel like repetition of thoughts that eventually lead to destruction. "Oh no, it go, it gone, bye-bye, who I, I think, I sink, and I die." Also, I can see why people thought it was funny, because the line "it's good to see you lying there in your superman skivvies" always makes me smile. Also, the fact that this was their debut song. They were off to a great start.
Ah, Buddy Holly. Reaching critical acclaim to being one of Weezer's defining songs. Also having one of the most iconic licks of all time that people play and say "you just got weezered!" to. I think the reason this song is so good for me is because of solid 90s nerd-defending-his-friend-that-he-loves-oh-so-dearly-against-all-odds vibes I get from it. The "ooh-wee-ooh I look just Buddy Holly, oh oh and you're Mary Tyler Moore" is a line that solidifies the relationship the narrator has with their friend or partner or whomever the song is meant for. It's something you'd say to your best friend as a kid, and then we get hit with the "I don't care what they say about us anyway" which just gives anyone listening that surge of confidence and child-like joy. I also go feral when I hear the song start to play because "What's with these homies dissing my girl?" is such a monumental way to start a song off with.
I love how In The Garage transitions from a harmonica and acoustic guitar to punchy electric guitar. The verses' rhythm force you to move some body part along with the song. It's trancing but in a goofy way. The crunchy bass in the second verse is also very enticing. As for the meaning of the song, it's about someone who feels like their safe space is their garage (shocker!) and that's literally it. How Rivers Cuomo manages to make such timeless songs about such mundane things is beyond me. In The Garage is almost an anthem of sorts. It's for all the dance-like-no-one's-looking people, the I-have-a-million-figurines-of-geeky-stuff-that-I-would-probably-get-made-fun-of-for people, the I-do-silly-little-guitar-moves-when-playing-air-guitar people.
The Blue Album is such a cohesive and brilliantly produced album. From songs about prosaic settings to songs about deep and intense romantic love that would never work out, this album was one of the quickest albums to become part of my favorites. I have no regrets about making my first album review a Weezer album. If you for some reason decided to take time out of your precious life to read this entire thing, thanks! I'll be posting more reviews soon because this was so enjoyable to do. I have a lot to say about a lot of things if you didn't know already. Until next time!

last night i dreamt that i was in a shopping mall then rivers cuomo (but a young cuomo, think from around the 90s/early 2000s) was standing right next to me and said 'wow we look like we could be brothers' and i looked in the mirror and (keep in mind i already look a bit like him irl) lo and behold we did. then his body went away and his face merged into mine before he disappeared entirely. then i was suddenly shirtless but it was ok because i had a man's chest (im afab irl btw), like flatness and chest hair and all and i was so euphoric even tho the chest hair was like... rlly coarse.... like more so than chest hair normally would be. also yk that bit of hair that goes from your navel down to the end of ur stomach? yh that bit of hair was also rlly thick, but not coarse, it was almost like them victorian sideburns but on my stomach??? idk. anyways then i woke up and was so disappointed i didn't have a flat chest anymore. and now ive just been thinking about this for the entire day and its like... weirdly comforting.
so yeah if anyone knows dream interpretation please tell me what this means. is this a sign from god? is mercury in gatorade? am i suffering from weezer brainrot? do tell.

Song of the Week #1 - Weezer's One More Hit
Before you ask me if I'm joking: No! This song is great! I've been listening to it on loop lately. I have a lot of feelings about it and the way that people process music that gets across a message in a "weird" or "silly" way. My main point is essentially that, yes, the chorus is a repeated refrain of "pump it up into me, please, daddy," but that I think a lot of people get caught up in what the lyrics are and not necessarily why they may have been written that way. So it's the song of the week, because I think it deserves a more fair chance than being a meme because of the chorus. It's a pretty intense rock track, with what I understand to be some metal influence, a sound I'm not super familiar with but really enjoy. A bit more of my feelings and review beneath the cut!
The song is from the perspective of someone experiencing drug withdrawals, a violating, full-body experience, and begging a dealer to give them, as the title says, one more hit. In my opinion, the strange and pleadingly sexual chorus is intentionally meant to make the listener a bit uncomfortable, as well as provide more visceral mental imagery of the kind of unbalanced and unhealthy relationships that can form between a drug dealer and an addict who buys from them.
Admittedly, I don't know much Weezer. I know Buddy Holly and Island In The Sun, but that's about it. I've heard bits and pieces of other Weezer tracks, and Rob Cantor's cover of Why Bother, which I enjoy. This track, as far as I understand, seems to really be a departure from the "classic" Weezer sound, but I think it's executed in a way that not only makes a lot of sense for the subject matter, but also results in an extremely catchy track. The bridge is also notable, with it's sudden change in tempo that catches your attention as the pleading from the song's narrator turns into description of the type of hit they're looking for.
The track's instrumentation is strong and churning, the guitar the sort of scratchy tone you'd expect from an 80s band, perhaps Van Halen, whom the album was dedicated to and named after. It stays pretty forceful throughout the song, with a few sharp cries from the guitar here and there. The drums are the sort of style that my dad would probably liken to a motorcycle engine- sharp and punchy. The melody and style of Rivers Cuomo's vocals is really interesting in contrast- they feel a bit lost, pleading, desperate, especially as the end of the song nears and the lyrics are delivered with more intensity. Cuomo's voice in general is a bit smoother and almost more poppy than I'd typically associate with this style of song, but I personally don't feel that it detracts from the song at all! The melody itself is extremely catchy, and once I listen to the track i find myself singing it (especially "you really shouldn't go cold turkey, cold turkey") at various points throughout the day.
Overall, I just really enjoy this track and think it deserves a much more fair shake than it's been given up to now, so that's why it's song of the week! I hope you listen and enjoy it!

Hi beloved! 7 and 23 ^-^
7. A song to drive to
Sober Up by AJR featuring Rivers Cuomo
I'm a huge AJR fan and my mom is(/was?) a big Weezer fan so this song was perfect for us! We would sing along to it in the car a lot so it has a lot of fond driving memories :)
honorary shout out to seishun no enbu (bakuten op) bc the end of the song sounds like the mario kart start tune
23. A song that you think everybody should listen to
Acacia by Bump of Chicken
songs about love that aren't inherently romantic in nature are so hard to come by but so incredibly important. partnership is whatever you make it and this song captures that incredibly!!
No matter what fate awaits us, I'll take your hand in mine and never let go. Next to you (next to you), here by your side, our souls cry out that this is where we belong. And when our reasons shine bright, embracing us in their light, I want you to see how you look in my eyes, next to me (next to me) in the good seats.
I want you to know that you're here.
if that isn't the most powerful chorus of friendship i don't know what is. also the song slaps and bump of chicken combines a very calm yet moving sound with killer vocals.

[Apr 2023] Songsterr Tab for Weezer - "Since You Came Around" has been completed and uploaded!
(This should probably be listed as Rivers Cuomo - "Since You Came Around", though most people will search it using Weezer's moniker.)
"Since You Came Around" is a demo recorded by Rivers Cuomo in 2015. According to Weezerpedia, it was accidentally prematurely released among the collection Alone XI: The EWBAITE Years, before being rereleased in the collection Alone XII: The White Year, which falls more in line with the year it was recorded in. The site also notes that its melody was recycled from an earlier demo, "Hawaii", before itself being recycled into the bridge of "Jacked Up", which is the ninth track from Weezer (2016). (Considering I have a particular fondness for "Jacked Up", it was only inevitable that I'd come across this demo eventually.) I have long found River's writing process rather strange and unique, with how many of his tracks seem to be created piecemeal from existing demos. As nice as it is to see old demos being given new light by being incorporated into official releases, I think most fans would agree that it'd be nice to see a few demos recorded and fully released in their original forms, too.
"Since You Came Around" is definitely one such demo that applies to the above statement. I love the overall melancholiness of the song's melody and lyrics, and the sudden grittiness of the choruses only adds to the emotional tone the song creates. Despite being recorded in 2015, it definitely has the energy of a Blue-era song, from its power-chord-heavy composition, to its falsetto vocals, to the acoustic riff jamming out through the song. It's genuinely interesting to see how substantive the change in lyrics is to the overall feeling of the song; despite having basically the exact same melody as "Hawaii", I prefer this demo so much more because of its subject matter.

The family session went well. It pretty much turned into a therapy session where we talked shit about my dad and I learned that I am absolutely not “over it” like I thought I was. I remembered a lot of stuff about Civil Air Patrol and how miserable it was for me. I was just so happy that my dad was finally interested in what I was doing that I felt like I had to do this.
How upsetting.
Anywho, In the Rivers Cuomo discord I suggested that we created a channel dedicated to autistic Weezer fans (all weezer fans, lets be real) and that it be called “In the Garage”. Rivers has not yet looked at our request, but he is probably busy on account of being the lead singer of Weezer.
The Rivbot has been personally targeting me, I think.
I played Doors with Kyle, Milo, and Snail. Kyle couldn’t have his mic on and he also had to leave really soon after playing. We made it pretty far but I don’t think we ever got passed door 50.
I would just like to say that I’m still mad I didn’t get to see MCR. I don’t know why this one concert has been drifting around in my head for so long, but why I am bot over it yet! AhghghG!! I’m too obsessed. Somebody stop me.
